If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
    How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
    Never quit,
    Alex
    FULL DISCLOSURE
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

"Have one public failure and you see who your real friends are." Alex, I've been doing well financially for several decades. 10 years ago I was in 3 lawsuits with nasty false allegations. (Lawyers don't sue poor people.) Bottom line is I won 2. I lost one. The one I lost...a competitor posted an article in Forbes Magazine. Rumors spread. BOOM most neighbors avoided eye contact. Many friends ghosted us. Amazingly, none of them called to get my perspective. A handful of TRUE friends stuck with us. I don't need the others.

One of my buddies got engaged, and we hadn't been hanging out anymore. I was doing my own thing, so I was very isolated, but my battery died at the bank, and he came and gave me a jump.
One of our other friends complained, Sean, our friend who helped me, didn't come around anymore. I told him the bank story, and explained, he's starting a family now, even if that's just the 2 of them, and she's more important than us now. If he's there when we need him, not when we want him, then that's the true measure.
I'd rather have you never come hangout, but you help me move than the opposite.

Alex has conversations that are brutally honest and uncomfortable and in general I find people really don't like that. They prefer to avoid those. Which is why they don't grow, which further distances them. Challenging beliefs and true growth can pain painful even though it's ultimately rewarding. People have become terrified of pain. They avoid pain and discomfort physical and emotional at all costs. Alex goes deep into that shit. Which is why when I listen to him at 32 years old, he has the wisdom of 100 years. He leverages time and failures of others not just in business but personal evolution. Love this guy. Would love to have you and Leila as friends. I would have ZERO problem giving you shit to your face and being your biggest fan. You guys rock.

I think this is very true Talia. People who are not motivated or believe they can change or better themselves or their lives, look at you 'odd' when you mention that mindset guides everything, from business to health fitness, relationships. If you look at 'harshly' how you think, what you do and the results it has brought you and compare it to more successful people, it brings up uncomfortable truths, that require uncomfortable change. This is really hard, so people don't begin, therefore never need to look deeply at themselves, so stay unhappy in their predictable but unhappy, unfulfilling lives!

I dont think you should cut friends out of your life who are not on your level. Real friendship should be like brotherhood. You wouldnt cut your brother out would you? But I agree with your point that some so called 'friends' really dont want you to succeed more than themselves. I noticed this whenever I mention something good about my life and their face shows dissapointment. You become more careful with spreading good news about yourself.

    • @TheFlareMind

That's happened to me because one person is at different stage of their lives and decided to not continue the friendship.
People should be supportive in my opinion. I don't have a problem with people being at different stages of their lives and can continue being friends with them as long they are not hostile or self-harming or harming others.

I watched this video last year and didn't really understand what u were talking about. At the time I thought i could keep my friends.
After changing a bit and improving myself and starting to fully know who I am and what i am interested in, I'm going through losing all my past friends currently. And I'm not trying to cut them off or anything, but they're all starting to not invite me to things and contact me less. one of these guys i knew for more than 20 years since we were 3 yrs old. Everyone would say to keep that friend forever and it's rare and precious...but we currently have almost nothing in common except our past. I met with him one last time recently and he wanted to talk about the same shit as always, to which i didn't have much to say. And then when i wanted to talk about the future and what i was building and the new things i was trying, he would have nothing much to say either.
Feels like a knife is in my chest, but i gotta start allowing myself to let go of these old relationships. I can now relate to u Alex 🤣

Well it's likely that what the author of the post meant is to increase the compression profile to make the baseline more audible provided the volume envelope is also maxed prior to any clipping. Also I think it would be more helpful to say how things actually work versus just state 'that's not how it works'

I feel this deeply. I made the decision to very intentionally let go of some relationships I’ve held very dear because I realized that my expectations of what our relationship had been was misaligned with reality. It was just unhealthy. So I let it go. My growth demanded it of me, and I’m all the better for it.

  • @Leto2ndAtreides

What you expect from friends requires a fair amount of communication so people know what you're expecting from them, and what they can expect from you.
And it sounds like you need a strategy for finding friends who will last. Friends of decent character, and friends with a sufficiently aligned path where they have the knowledge and ability to benefit you if they want to, and where you can do the same for them.
For the "friends of decent character" part... I think that since most people don't have a very definite sense of self, you may be able to have them behave better in your relationship just by being clear about your expectations about what you think a friend should be to you. People will often give you what they clearly know you expect from them (unless they're douches - but you should be able to recognize those some)
Anyway, hope you're happy or rather that you manage to be more so in the future.

Last year I decided to go back to school in hopes to find a tribe... as result, I made absolutely no connections with anyone at all and it gave me a lot of grief instead... as of now, I'm still waiting for those real friends you speak of to fill the void. I literally only have 2 friends who, well one who I talk to on a weekly basis, and the other I hear from once in awhile...I'm literally in the trenches by myself right now, and its heartbreaking and frightening...it definitely feels like the world is against me and I keep wondering to myself how do I get up out of this? anyway you've pretty much articulated everything I've been seeking and hope to find soon..real ones... the ones that 'root for me behind my back, and talk shit to my face' thank you for this!

I'm latina and I've moved to Spain to make business here (worst idea because Spain doesn't have the best economy- I should have moved to the US). I've worked as an illegal here and I've paid the price... most importantly I'm always alone. I've moved without my family or friends. Funny how the dreams you have seem so far away to reach when you compare yourself with people like Alex. An idiot will feel jealous a wise person will get inspired. I don't give much value to friends. Most people are really fake and/or are trying to use you for something. Even the ones on a similar level as you will change towards you quickly if you change a little. I don't have the energy to find actual genuine friends among the crappy ones.

What really saddens and irritates me is taking the cost of your dream into consideration and being willing to go the way by yourself you look back and you lost almost every friend you had but still didn't make it financially so it feels like a loss - loss trade.
Going back doesn't feel right as Alex describes, but there is not many new trade-off friendships either, nor a Lamborghini to cry in it.

Mr. Hormozi, I just lost someone who was more than just a friend to me. I kept clinging on and hoped we could somehow make something work but, your video has given me evidence on why to let go. You are truely an inspiration and I hope to meet you in person someday. I will be a billionaire and I will be asked how I became so, and I will contribute a part to you. Time to get studying, starting at level one and building my way up.

Don't worry about friends the most important is how much of a friend you are for yourself. People come and go we grow and change and others grow in a different way to the point that your ways separate. If you are open to something like money or love more and more and someone that is with you is less open their you are starting to cause them to feel their boundaries blockages stopping them from reaching your level and they stop feeling comfortable with you. The same if you meet someone more open to something. All depends how self concious are they will they detect their motives and discard them by acceptance. Dont worry you will have right friends as long as you are true to yourself

The biggest thing I realize in my 30s looking at my previous friends is that :I know them, but there are so much more I just don't know about them outside the party. Seeing them in day to day life outside surface level topics...suddenly we don't relate.

Ufff this really resonated with me.... Unfortunately they are friends in life that only are there for a season or only we will have a connection for a short time and then we will go parallel in our lives, we can only send them blessings from far away and work on ourselves and become ourselves our main commitment.

A serious question for anyone reading this:
From your point of view, how long can and should such a "break" without friends last?
In the last five years all friendships fell away little by little, with two people I met once or twice a year. But with Corona even that has fallen away...

    • @LukeVoigt
      @LukeVoigt 2 роки тому +5

I’ve gone through periods like this. I think you need to be in situations where you have the potential to meet friends constantly or you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. Easier said than done… but my answer is “as little time as possible”. Without friends, without Allies, without brothers, you are at risk. On the positive side, almost every great thing happens with friends and relationships.

I understand that. I own a small business. None, zero of my “family” has simply shared any of my posts. Heck they don’t even hit the like button. I have friends on the internet who don’t live anywhere near me and they like and share my posts. F’em and keep going. Like Gary Vee says, “ These are dreams we’re talking about.”

    • @DewTime

Five years is way too long. Like @Luke said you need to put yourself in a position where you are constantly meeting people. Whether that’s a local sports game, a social hobby like trivia, an investors meet up, volunteering for charity, etc. If you keep going through the same routines everyday nothing will change

Thank you, I love the way you discussed this and yes I learned in my early 20's that the life I want to design isn't necessarily a life that my friends understand but the people I have met since have been exciting and mostly seasons but that is totally fine. Happiness in my own skin is what I spent time in my 20's to go deep on it's definitely paying off now.

I want to be your friend. I sincerely mean that. I don't expect it to happen but I'm down to chat.
I agree very much with this type of "standard" for friends relationships. It works as a filter that results in few but very very high quality relationships. And I think the wiser the man gets, the quality gets A LOT more important.
    Thanks for sharing! much love

I used to live in a 2 bed house and the man next door in the 3 bed house much bigger than mine, was my best friend and neighbour, he'd do anything to help. The house the other side of him came up for sale, a 3 bed a bit bigger than his. I bought it when it came up for sale, and the day i moved in i saw him getting into his car, he didn't look at me, didn't speak to me and never spoke to me again. To date, he blanks me. He liked me being below him, he didn't want me on the same level, and definitely not above. How sad to think that the original friendship was never real.

I really hope you guys read this because I am extremely wanting to have my own business but see traits in the core friends(2 or 3) that satisfy as you put it the people that promote me even when I'm not there(which I would do the same for them certain things/jobs but not on nm my level). This person promoted me to help me.get a job etc when I trained him I'm a different industry years ago. Other than my wife, he is my ride or die. This video made me realize that when I am Super successful/wealthy( partially because of your videos) He will still be supporting me and probably even more so. And I need to include him and his family even more.

You lose friends not because they don't want to see you succeed. But because you have less in common with them. And also because in general adults don't view friendship as important and they lose the ability to play.

There is a difference between friends and acquaintances. Most people just want followers than true friends. If you come needing something from someone than find that need in yourself first. Better friends will come.
