If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
    How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbitl in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
    Never quit,
    Alex
    FULL DISCLOSURE
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

You've basically described my life. Most people don't understand what a toxic family environment is like. They just say family is important and hold this stigma of you not wanting to be with your family. It is of course important, but it should never be so important that it ruins your growth and who you are.

I admire his work ethic and resolve, and take what lessons I can from it. But ultimately I see an angry, insecure man speaking from a place not of confidence but of unresolved trauma. There's no question that fear and pain can drive people to do great things, and he often speaks about this. I can relate to the fear of an old identity that he refers to in this video. But I also believe that a complete, healed human being doesn't need to run from that because it's been integrated and he's comfortable looking at the old self in the eye, with full knowledge that he has become something better. I also believe that no amount of success can replace family and friends. Furthermore, healthy relationships with family are regularly updated, so the metamorphosis is witnessed as it happens and annual gatherings don't carry the risks of meeting an old self like this. With all that said, I acknowledge that every situation is different, families are complicated, and his advice will be quite relevant for a minority of people (as he says in the video). But it would be a sad, cold world if everyone was so obsessed with their own journey that they become estranged from their family

I sent them this video, and I hope that they can see that it’s ok do just do “you” and not feel bad about saying no, to stand up for themselves and the direction they want to go in.

If family was so important they wouldn't be treating you like shit and driving you away. I will warn you, that it is as painful and difficult as it is scary. Though, it is very effective especially if you need it to grow and get better.
First off, treat them like crap back and like Alex says in the video, do not tolerate them even with little things, belittling you with words or whatever. Stop responding to them for everything, and just make sure to get them out of your life the LEAST stressful way possible, because it will be stressful. In the end, you will be SO MUCH better for it. Even forgiveness may present itself down the road, sometimes not though.

I used to be a major people pleaser but I moved across the country this summer and put myself and my goals first. I stopped going to family functions around 5 years ago, I realized I never felt good when I was around them. You have to give yourself permission first because no one else will.

  • @firsthelix6726

I think you overthink the issue. You go back to see your family you never know how long you will have them. it doesn't mean you need to compromise your life principles or whatever. You spend a couple of days with them compared to hundreds of days without them, so if you are on your way with discipline and character, Î see absolutely no issue with going back to see your family. You'll change your mind when you grow older and realize we don't live forever and our time with each other is limited.

Alex is so good at deconstructing scenarios into actionable task. The one aspect that I would add to this conversation is that it is important to let others see the life you are living. Much like the access Hormozi gives us to his life through these videos. The best way for others to see the changes they need to make is not by telling them but by the display of your life against theirs. For example, to see how crooked a stick is put a straight stick next to it. Ultimately, it is imperative to continually grow as a person. But it is also part of life to bring others along with.

I used to think there was something wrong with me for years. I never quite belonged. I grew frustrated, and depressed. There's nothing wrong with me. It's simply that I outgrew my environment. The hardest thing is to identify this very fact. Harder still, to accept that you must, and should, move on if you want to continue to grow. Even if it's lonewolf for a while. Have faith. New people will enter your life, just like you. I'm learning this right now. 🙏🏼 Thanks Alex. ❤

I have zero issues with my family and try to spend as much time with them as possible, but this really applies to me for old friendships. Examples of friends in town after not talking for multiple years and they just expect you to drop everything and make them the main priority. Can apply this advice to many different circumstances and I feel refreshed after watching this video because I had to play the cold shoulder to some old high school "friends" who I hadn't talked to in many years and then they are back in town and expected me to just do whatever they wanted.

I've been in your shoes and all I see is a really smart guy suffering. It sucks to come from a toxic familly, but going lone wolf and overworking is not the solution. This comes from a deep rooted pain that is hard to face, but facing it, and working on yourself to not be triggered or affected by any actions or words from your familly will make you so peaceful. You would become truly zen, and there will be no more pain, all while being imune to all the toxic traits and past triggers. This is what true healing feels like. You become a whole new person, all the disciplined and dedicated work comes from another emotional place and will feel 100x better, and you will be capable of a lot love towards yourself and others again.😊

I have change and my reality reflect that now. My sibling instead of being happy uses the phase "Hey Brad you will turn back to your old self that just how we are we always have bad luck and was meant to suffer" I didn't agree with that statement at all and correct him. Recently I've been in a slump of slumber and laziness, I'm an 18 yr old who took your advice and didn't go to college and instead decided to get real hands on experience. It was going well and I never felt this productive and driven in my life. But I recently started hanging out with some old buddies and now I became back to a lazy undriven person. I just spent Thanksgiving with them and the highlight of the after dinner "superficial" conversation was all of them abandoning the dining room table to watch Dolly Parton in a 1/2 shirt dance and sing on TV. I can't repeat this for Christmas even though I don't have any particular place to go at the moment. My choice used to be Iceland but this year I was thinking Montenegro even though that'll consume time that I don't want to afford right now. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.

I needed to hear this. It's mostly because of my friends. I acted in ways I dislike that invited bad behaviour and I relapse when I meet old friends, it's a bit horrible. But getting away from that feels like I'm running away from my problems and I'm being an entitled human-being while doing so and it absolutely sucks. So I *do* need outside permission from someone who has their life together because right now I don't. I also don't know if I'm gonna achieve great shit but I do want to excell at the things I love, do them my way and share them with the right folk. It’s an interesting take on mental health and therapy, and addressing your own state of mind instead of believing that you have to share the same goals and values for yourself that other people claim you should have.
I like listening to his opinion because it gives me a different perspective, even if I don’t have this specific problem (with my family / holidays, for example) I can still understand why someone else may not feel comfortable coming home for the holidays.
