@@Anonymous-wb3nz yeah, there is. There's a lot of bands that when the vocalist leaves some else in the band just does it. Eg. Pestilence, Nervosa, Immortal, almost everyone who's ever been in Napalm death. Between Black, Death, death thrash, metalcore, deathcore, grindcore, etc there are 1000s of bands now with extreme vocalists. I can't do it,but eventually you realise it's not as rare as I once thought.

That's another reason why I think metalcore is so banal---the vocals. It's subpar compared to the old school death metal and black metal. But many people don't want to come to terms with it.

That's exactly my teamleader at my job. Just because I said to him I'm Christian, tries to make me feel guilty for fun because of the artwork of the band T-shirts that I wear at work, like Maiden and Manowar.
What really makes me cringe is when you have people being really elitist and saying, " You're not a metalhead/ part of said subculture bc you like a variety of music." It's fine if you don't like other genres but no one's less of a metal head if they'll listen to Cattle Decapitation, Iron Maiden, Metallica one minute and pop punk the next. A metalhead is someone who simply enjoys heavy metal and w there shouldn't have to be someone policing what they like outside of the genre .
For me: 1. Call my music Emo, or Screamo 2. Play Sleep Token or Bad Omens 3. Kerry King still thinking that 40 years later metal fans are still shocked by Satanic imagery. 4. Mixing clean and harsh vocals 5. metalcore/deathcore bands thinking that every song has to have a lazy breakdown

I don’t know if anyone else has encountered this before, but I’ve dealt with this a few times and the thing that makes me cringe the most as a metalhead is when on any given day I’m wearing my battle vest and someone who’s not into metal sees it and takes a look the band patches on there and sarcastically says “Where’s Taylor Swift?? I don’t see any Taylor Swift on there!!” It’s the same scenario with when people joke about it not being Halloween anymore; they think they’re being so original and clever and funny, but all it does is just irritate me. I think it partly has to do with the ridiculously unhealthy obsession people have with Taylor Swift as well.
I love metal, and I love Screamo. I mean actual Screamo, like Saetia, Orchid, Pg99, Heroin, Antioch Arrow, Circle Takes The Square, etc. I also love other metal acts like Bring Me The Horizon (who are NOT screamo btw), Arch Enemy, Suicide Silence, and a whole host of others of various metal subgenres.

3:30 an opener for sepultura had a vocalist who was yelling “IF I DONT SEE A MOSHPIT, I’LL BE MAD, AND YOU GUYS DON’T WANT TO SEE ME MAD!!” And no one did ANYTHING, it was the most cringey moment I experienced on a concert
I haven't been asked about Screamo in ages but I would get on the defense and lecture people about Screamo/ Skramz like Orchid and Saddest Landscape and how they differ from Metal and have more in common with Grindcore and Hardcore and eventually I realized it was easier just to say " that and Metal." and see if they asked further before I become a professor. . .

Here are a couple of metal cringes of mine that I can't f**king stand. 1st is when people outside of metal associate the black metal look for Kiss (which I DID actually experience once before on Halloween when I cosplayed as Seregor from Carach Angren.) 2nd is when they call bands from extreme genres of metal "grunge" (especially if I listen to bands within a particular genre (such as "symphonic black metal" for me personally) bands like Limbonic Art or Carach Angren) and a soon as hear a song from one of them they automatically spew out the "grunge" label (why because you hear a heavy ass guitar playing in the song?), now I can give the "screamo" label a little bit of a pass (just a little bit) because it's somewhat understandable but the "grunge" label is complete f**king blasphemy like if you wanna know EXACTLY what I'm listening too, f**king ask me first before you start acting like you already know sh*t. But yeah, there you have it with my metal cringes.

I got a personal cringe to share. My husband and I are both metalheads. Recently, our 5 year old daughter did a metal song at the school talent, and she did great. Naturally, as a proud mom, I sent a video to my mom to show what her granddaughter did. My mom poke fun at me, saying we are like the Addams family. I love the Addams Family, but I was annoyed.
I totally agree, and I've also thought about how I've occasionally heard the term screamo since as you mentioned 2008, during the period which was the mid to late 2000s considered the so called emo era there were bands considered that were heavily in the mainstream and I thought that was the most extreme thing it had at the time, and I feel like those terms have been sort of forgotten
I'm a vocalist, I'm not massively 'aggressive/scream-y' in style but I using false cord growl. When I work with others (like producers etc...) I always try to prewarn them and every time I get 'yeah, no worries we have done loads of screamo before'. Like thats lovely but it couldn't be further from what I do, then I get 'Oh, is the mic broken or is your voice suppose to sound like that'. I have also had some strange comparisons made that are nothing at all like my voice like Bullet for my valentine or Dio etc... I know they mean well and are just trying to connect though.

For me it's not cringe, but when someone I like goes "Oh you're into metal? I went to see Trivium last year they were killer!" and I don't have the heart to tell them that, you know, um, no.
But when you don't like pop or anything massively popular, you HAVE to know about it. And that's why netalheads get "annoyed" or angry for seemingly nothing. I think it's because of the hypocrisy of common people and pride they hold on useless shit only because it's popular and mainstream.
One of the cringiest moments was when I introduced someone who listened to a good amount of metal to Opeth (particularly their song When) Literally seconds after the power chords kicked in accompanied by Mikaels death metal vocals, he stopped the track saying he didn't like "screamo". Like what the actual hell. At least get their subgenre right, even if you don't like them.

Not to mention you sometimes have these incredibly self righteous and arrogant people who claim we're immoral assholes just because we like different genres of music, yet there have been times where some ppl have used religion to justify incredibly sinful and cruel shit ( Crusades,Inquisition, oppressing people of different orientations, clergy abuse towards children to literally name just a few). But even though goth is obviously more poppy and it's a different genre of music, goth like metal also has some similarities with metal in terms of its listeners being misjudged as these crazy, demonic Devil worshippers as well as these mean ,depressed people who wear only black. Not to mention both listeners seem more likely to have an interest in the morbid and the supernatural. Plus there is gothic metal so the genres can and do coexist despite their differences

Good list. I've never seen or even heard of a metal-head standup comedian here in Australia, I'm glad to say. Secondly, since Halloween is not really a thing here in Australia, seeing people wearing all black with gruesome metal t-shirts (like me) at any time of the year does not attract unwanted comments. I hate the word 'screamo'. I've never heard it used here in Australia but I've encountered it many times on UA-cam, mostly from non metal-head music reactors looking for clicks by reacting to Jinjer. I always leave them a comment pointing out the error of their ways. I cringe when bands instruct audiences to form circle pits and walls of death and also when bands want the audience to sing and you realize that the vast majority of the audience does not know the words. I can't stand deathcore fans trying to relate to me when I'm into brutal death metal bands such as Posthuman Abomination or anything similar for example. I've had to explain so many times it's not the same type of music.
Some of things I don’t like is whenever you’re wearing black and somebody it might be an old person might say something like a you look like you are going to a funeral Or if you’re wearing a band shirt with a metal thing or your vest and you get called a devil worshiper like why do we still do this music and music? I get that there was a lot of bands in the 90s in the black middle area that were like burning churches and stuff, but come on specially the religious people like you’re supposed to be like good people that accepts everybody and then you go judging people with a tattoo or somebody who’s wearing a metal shirt Or whenever people think that they know metal and then they go and say that metallica isn’t metal or that they think and I kid you know somebody told me that Metallica freaking invented metal like no it was Sabbath. Call me poser as much as you want but ADTR and The Amity Affliction is how I found out about Death Metal despite the fact that they are metalcore bands and that's because Ahren from Amity loves Cannibal Corpse and wears their shirt all the time. I still like classic metal core, but for the most part I'm into Death, Black, Groove and Thrash metal nowadays. So I have no problem with people mentioning screamo, mainly because they don't know better and it's not a big deal. Think about it, it's all just screaming to them. In my country, in order to survive, metal concerts aren't pure. They are a mix of either: two metal bands, a rock band and a rock band that covers both rock and pop songs (which is cringe enough because you have to go from enjoying an extreme metal band to hearing some soft stuff but you paid money and have to keep the good vibe going until the other metal band comes up so just work with it until then, luckily there's booze) or a mix of Pop, rock and one metal band. That last one is the most cringe and I avoid it. There is Frost Fest, however, which is free so long as you bring a Toy to donate for charity and is one of two big concerts that are pure metal concerts. And then there is the two band metal concerts at Bars. And another cringe thing of course is people calling me Jesus because I have the thick eyebrows to go with the beard and the hair. What makes it cringe is the fact that they think they're being cleaver and think they're the 1st to call me it. Doesn't help that I have brown skin either.
I have seen some comedians who made rather fun jokes about metal (though they were also clever enough to not make it their whole schtick) and I don't mind a call for a moshpit or a wall of death, IF it fits the music. It gives the people who wants to be part of it, an opportunity to get in and those who don't, to get to the side... What does make me cringe, are metalheads complaining about "why X is a headliner?" (Because they are popular and make money for the festival...) and keep complaining about it, despite having several other options to see at the same time of the headliner at other stages. Go watch them, have fun there and stop ruining things for others. As for cringe coming from outside the genre: people who try to show interest in my taste of music, but immediately show that there is a very limited interest. I probably never forget the time I was on a new year's reception, two days prior to have a day off for a concert and my supervisor asked me: 'You are going to a concert, aren't you. What band?' She is someone who goes to concerts herself, so the question in itself isn't that odd. But seeing how we all knew that we didn't listen to the same genre of music, the outcome was pretty predictable and her reaction all the funnier (in a cringy way). So, when she asked the question, I answer with: 'Arch Enemy'. And without missing a beat (and this is where things got a bit cringe), she blandly said: 'I don't know that band...' Yeah, nobody was expecting her to know it, though the way she dropped the conversation immediately afterwards, was both funny as cringy as what did she expect? Still a strange yet memorable moment.
I really cringe hard when goths try to look "black metal" with fake black metal logo tops. Or in general why is it that in every none metal scenario, if there is a "metal" person they always wear a darkthrone shirt. Every time. If not darkthrone then it's Mayhem or a font in one of each styles. Makes me cringe to the moon

I cringe when I see Slipknot T- shirts, or when people carry on about Slayer or Iron Maiden. I mean, they are alright Metal bands, but there are far better, heavier bands out there. And I just find it sad that so many supposed Metalheads limit themselves to the more popular bands, and never take the time or make the effort to look beneath the surface
I think you'll find that it's not all about what is the heaviest. Iron Maiden is like my favorite band not because of how heavy their music is but because of how well the songs are written (yeah I know there were some albums with bad lyrics) but the instrumentation is great. I'm more of an old school 'heavy metal' fan who mostly prefers stuff with clean singing with occasional screaming. What I find cringe is people that complain about a band just because they're popular. Yes, the underground scene is great and full of the old school sound but some forget that this underground scene would not exist without the more popular bands. It's like complaining that a band had lasted long enough to become successful.
I liked Jim Breuer's act for a while then I figured out what you figured out (that was all he talked about during his stand-up shows) but he decided during the pandemic to mock an athlete (Damar Hamlin of the NFL) saying that he collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest because he had been vaccinated for Covid 19. Hamlin had suffered a severe blow to the chest seconds earlier from a shoulder hit of an opposing player that caused his heart to stop.
Ok, ok, ok, ok. I have not been able to stand Jim Bruer since about 2020, when he became a real whack-job anti-vaxxer. Before that, he did some funny movies and his Goatboy and Joe Pesci acts were hysterical. But, there are good Metalhead comedians out there. Mitch Hedberg was great, Bill Bailey is awesome, and Brian Posehn still brings the dorky laughs. There are many more, but they aren't big names. Speaking of comedians, Criss Angel was in a Metal band before he put on the mindfreak persona. He was the lead singer and performed illusions while singing, "Don't you want my love". The mislabeling of Metal is one that really gets me. No, your 90's rap-rock band isn't Metal. I know your pop-punk band plays power chords and has tattoos, but it isn't Metal. There is a taxonomy to music genres.
I know imma get flamed for this, but I kinda still gotta say it. The House Of Wolves by Bring Me The Horizon is actually not bad, ngl. But also being in any scene really, when people try to relate to you or guess what bands/stuff you're into always is a cringeworthy thing. But since the scene I primarily hang around, the hardcore scene, no one really knows about us so we don't get much cringe worthy stuff other than, "Your pits look like a drunk brawl" (Extreme cringe) and "Oh, do you listen to Knocked Loose?" (Imma just leave the convo at that).

The screamo question always makes me want to laugh every time someone asks me unironically.
Here are a couple of metal cringes of mine that I can't f**king stand. 1st is when people outside of metal associate the black metal look for Kiss (which I DID actually experience once before on Halloween when I cosplayed as Seregor from Carach Angren.) 2nd is when they call bands from extreme genres of metal "grunge" (especially if I listen to bands within a particular genre (such as "symphonic black metal" for me personally) bands like Limbonic Art or Carach Angren) and a soon as hear a song from one of them they automatically spew out the "grunge" label (why because you hear a heavy ass guitar playing in the song?), now I can give the "screamo" label a little bit of a pass (just a little bit) because it's somewhat understandable but the "grunge" label is complete f**king blasphemy like if you wanna know EXACTLY what I'm listening too, f**king ask me first before you start acting like you already know sh*t. But yeah, there you have it with my metal cringes.
One thing that makes me cringe a lot is when I was in highschool people said are you emo and I’m like no I’m a metal head I have a Mohawk a venom black metal shirt combat boots camo pants and etc etc ,
I got a personal cringe to share. My husband and I are both metalheads. Recently, our 5 year old daughter did a metal song at the school talent, and she did great. Naturally, as a proud mom, I sent a video to my mom to show what her granddaughter did. My mom poke fun at me, saying we are like the Addams family. I love the Addams Family, but I was annoyed.
I totally agree, and I've also thought about how I've occasionally heard the term screamo since as you mentioned 2008, during the period which was the mid to late 2000s considered the so called emo era there were bands considered that were heavily in the mainstream and I thought that was the most extreme thing it had at the time, and I feel like those terms have been sort of forgotten
I'm a vocalist, I'm not massively 'aggressive/scream-y' in style but I using false cord growl. When I work with others (like producers etc...) I always try to prewarn them and every time I get 'yeah, no worries we have done loads of screamo before'. Like thats lovely but it couldn't be further from what I do, then I get 'Oh, is the mic broken or is your voice suppose to sound like that'. I have also had some strange comparisons made that are nothing at all like my voice like Bullet for my valentine or Dio etc... I know they mean well and are just trying to connect though.

One of the cringiest moments was when I introduced someone who listened to a good amount of metal to Opeth (particularly their song When) Literally seconds after the power chords kicked in accompanied by Mikaels death metal vocals, he stopped the track saying he didn't like "screamo". Like what the actual hell. At least get their subgenre right, even if you don't like them.

I mean it's one thing to joke around but then you have people actually preaching to metal heads, and goths "Ohh you're a sinner/you're going to hell etc etc ..." Not to mention you sometimes have these incredibly self righteous and arrogant people who claim we're immoral assholes just because we like different genres of music, yet there have been times where some ppl have used religion to justify incredibly sinful and cruel shit ( Crusades,Inquisition, oppressing people of different orientations, clergy abuse towards children to literally name just a few). Plus some metal heads are religious themselves and there's music with anti war themes.

But even though goth is obviously more poppy and it's a different genre of music, goth like metal also has some similarities with metal in terms of its listeners being misjudged as these crazy, demonic Devil worshippers as well as these mean ,depressed people who wear only black. Good list. I've never seen or even heard of a metal-head standup comedian here in Australia, I'm glad to say. Secondly, since Halloween is not really a thing here in Australia, seeing people wearing all black with gruesome metal t-shirts (like me) at any time of the year does not attract unwanted comments. I hate the word 'screamo'. I've never heard it used here in Australia but I've encountered it many times on UA-cam, mostly from non metal-head music reactors looking for clicks by reacting to Jinjer. I always leave them a comment pointing out the error of their ways. I cringe when bands instruct audiences to form circle pits and walls of death and also when bands want the audience to sing and you realize that the vast majority of the audience does not know the words. Call me poser as much as you want but ADTR and The Amity Affliction is how I found out about Death Metal despite the fact that they are metalcore bands and that's because Ahren from Amity loves Cannibal Corpse and wears their shirt all the time. I still like classic metal core, but for the most part I'm into Death, Black, Groove and Thrash metal nowadays. So I have no problem with people mentioning screamo, mainly because they don't know better and it's not a big deal. Think about it, it's all just screaming to them.
In my country, in order to survive, metal concerts aren't pure. They are a mix of either: two metal bands, a rock band and a rock band that covers both rock and pop songs (which is cringe enough because you have to go from enjoying an extreme metal band to hearing some soft stuff but you paid money and have to keep the good vibe going until the other metal band comes up so just work with it until then, luckily there's booze) or a mix of Pop, rock and one metal band. That last one is the most cringe and I avoid it. There is Frost Fest, however, which is free so long as you bring a Toy to donate for charity and is one of two big concerts that are pure metal concerts. And then there is the two band metal concerts at Bars.
And another cringe thing of course is people calling me Jesus because I have the thick eyebrows to go with the beard and the hair. What makes it cringe is the fact that they think they're being cleaver and think they're the 1st to call me it. Doesn't help that I have brown skin either.

I have seen some comedians who made rather fun jokes about metal (though they were also clever enough to not make it their whole schtick) and I don't mind a call for a moshpit or a wall of death, IF it fits the music. It gives the people who wants to be part of it, an opportunity to get in and those who don't, to get to the side...
What does make me cringe, are metalheads complaining about "why X is a headliner?" (Because they are popular and make money for the festival...) and keep complaining about it, despite having several other options to see at the same time of the headliner at other stages. Go watch them, have fun there and stop ruining things for others. As for cringe coming from outside the genre: people who try to show interest in my taste of music, but immediately show that there is a very limited interest. I probably never forget the time I was on a new year's reception, two days prior to have a day off for a concert and my supervisor asked me: 'You are going to a concert, aren't you. What band?' She is someone who goes to concerts herself, so the question in itself isn't that odd. But seeing how we all knew that we didn't listen to the same genre of music, the outcome was pretty predictable and her reaction all the funnier (in a cringy way). So, when she asked the question, I answer with: 'Arch Enemy'. And without missing a beat (and this is where things got a bit cringe), she blandly said: 'I don't know that band...' Yeah, nobody was expecting her to know it, though the way she dropped the conversation immediately afterwards, was both funny as cringy as what did she expect? Still a strange yet memorable moment.

I cringe when I see Slipknot T- shirts, or when people carry on about Slayer or Iron Maiden. I mean, they are alright Metal bands, but there are far better, heavier bands out there. And I just find it sad that so many supposed Metalheads limit themselves to the more popular bands, and never take the time or make the effort to look beneath the surface
I think you'll find that it's not all about what is the heaviest. Iron Maiden is like my favorite band not because of how heavy their music is but because of how well the songs are written (yeah I know there were some albums with bad lyrics) but the instrumentation is great. I'm more of an old school 'heavy metal' fan who mostly prefers stuff with clean singing with occasional screaming. What I find cringe is people that complain about a band just because they're popular. Yes, the underground scene is great and full of the old school sound but some forget that this underground scene would not exist without the more popular bands. It's like complaining that a band had lasted long enough to become successful.
I hated Jim Brewer as the opening act for Metallica
I liked Jim Breuer's act for a while then I figured out what you figured out (that was all he talked about during his stand-up shows) but he decided during the pandemic to mock an athlete (Damar Hamlin of the NFL) saying that he collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest because he had been vaccinated for Covid 19. Hamlin had suffered a severe blow to the chest seconds earlier from a shoulder hit of an opposing player that caused his heart to stop.
Ok, ok, ok, ok. I have not been able to stand Jim Bruer since about 2020, when he became a real whack-job anti-vaxxer. Before that, he did some funny movies and his Goatboy and Joe Pesci acts were hysterical. But, there are good Metalhead comedians out there. Mitch Hedberg was great, Bill Bailey is awesome, and Brian Posehn still brings the dorky laughs. There are many more, but they aren't big names. Speaking of comedians, Criss Angel was in a Metal band before he put on the mindfreak persona. He was the lead singer and performed illusions while singing, "Don't you want my love".
The mislabeling of Metal is one that really gets me. No, your 90's rap-rock band isn't Metal. I know your pop-punk band plays power chords and has tattoos, but it isn't Metal. There is a taxonomy to music genres.
I know imma get flamed for this, but I kinda still gotta say it. The House Of Wolves by Bring Me The Horizon is actually not bad, ngl. But also being in any scene really, when people try to relate to you or guess what bands/stuff you're into always is a cringeworthy thing. But since the scene I primarily hang around, the hardcore scene, no one really knows about us so we don't get much cringe worthy stuff other than, "Your pits look like a drunk brawl" (Extreme cringe) and "Oh, do you listen to Knocked Loose?" (Imma just leave the convo at that).

I ALSO love iron maiden, Megadeth, metallica, Apocalyptica, a Christian death metal band called renascent, and a Christian thrash metal band called tourniquet. There’s so many other metal bands that I very much enjoy.
