Knowing that you will struggle while trying to build on a weak skill set is what still holds me back from actually taking action... I'm reaching the peak of a threshold where I realize that as I get older at my office job, Im coming to the realization that if you underperform, or make no effort to atleast sound like you're taking the steps to develop as a college educated employee, communication with someone your age who is working hard is very embarrassing...Im at the point where the pain of staying the same is becoming more painful than the pain of change!!

I think you're referring to George Leonard who was an Aikido master after starting his training around age 52. He was also the editor of Esquire Magazine and president of the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA. Great man, and his book, Mastery, is outstanding.

The key is " action, action , action "
    No action without money
    No action without a strategy
You need a project & focus on it.
Same day repeats itself for months if not years.

This is a very relevant video that hits home. Just looking at the opposite side of the coin, though, one must be careful not to be too rash while taking actions. Starting a business that fails and losing hundreds of thousands of dollars is also quite a negative thing.

I know so many people who just spring into action... For action's sake. Heading off in any direction, before they have a destination. Action needs be a series of calculated steps, with an understanding that the terrain will change.

We all start from being an „idiot“ (knowing nothing). Which is why we need to work hard for what we want. Practice makes perfect. With determination and perseverance we can achieve the impossible.
One of my students asked me how to pass the exam (he failed before). I told him to learn every day, do the exercises, can be just five minutes on the first day, but take a look into it. And the next day then minutes, then more.
Also, read carefully the assignment. What does the teacher want from you, which information is given, what do you want to answer? It is a dialogue with the teacher and a dialogue with yourself.
The ability to read carefully the assignment is important.
Only a few people are a real genius. This is why last minute learning is for the majority not a good idea.
