@@thePOWERofART-11 I know what you mean-sounds familiar. I was just thinking about the concept of focus again yesterday and how tiny that 100% attention window really is. There’s literally only one thing we can do really well in life; everything else is a distraction. It really makes you think about where to put all that time and energy.
@@erkkasuvanto yes. well said. and only one thing we were MADE to do! I've spent most of my life teaching, it chose me, when i'm an artist and art historian. I'm starting an art history documentary channel. I've just written my first.!
1) Say “NO” by default - is this new thing that got presented to me - gonna help to achieve my goals 2) it takes a decade to be really good at something - most important is, who am I spending my time with. Ask your intuition if this person is good for you - yes / no / maybe ( maybe is always no ) 3) opportunity cost. Hire somebody to solve your daily routines like cooking or cleaning. 4) simplify. Daily routine is great instance. Focus blocks
This is a very powerful concept and I've found that when I focus on daily progress rather than discipline or consistency itself, things become 1000x more natural to stick with it. Just make progress and things will fall into place.
Everything this wise man is saying is 100% correct. Without focus, you cannot have discipline. In this world of infinite distractions, you need to master the art of focus.
Discipline creates a confort zone. In that confort zone, we often fall into a routine that gives a false sense of accomplishment. This is why I never plan things in advance. Instead, I follow a list of priorities. Metaphorically, my days are spent in an emergency room where I’m always ready to give up what I’m presently doing to do something more urgent. In chaos, you have no choice, but to focus. In chaos, each day becomes unique and you feel alive all the time. Long term goals may seem attractive, but nobody lives in the future, only in the present.
I see the value in the approach of focusing on the present and staying adaptable, especially in dynamic environments where priorities can shift quickly. The metaphor of living life like an emergency room is powerful-it emphasizes the need to focus and make quick decisions in the moment. However, I also believe there’s a balance to be struck. Discipline doesn’t necessarily trap you in a comfort zone; instead, it can provide a strong foundation that allows for adaptability when chaos arises. Long-term goals aren’t just about the future-they guide present actions and help ensure you’re moving in a meaningful direction. In my experience, combining disciplined habits with flexibility creates the best of both worlds: the ability to stay present and focused while still building toward something greater. It’s not chaos versus planning; it’s about harmonizing the two
@ I agree. There’s a balance to be struck. Real success is often accidental. People who get it usually didn’t expect it and almost never can handle it. On the other hand, ambitious people rarely reach their goals. Why? Maybe because life likes to surprise us…

I had never thought of juggling several great ideas and projects as a source of distraction, until recently, although I always felt it somewhere in me that I am out of balance whenever I do so. This, EJ, is the most "career valuable" youtube video I have seen in my entire life. Now I will keep this to continually "remind myself" that not every great idea is worth my attention, until I have achieved my goal of Mastery in that specific area of focus. The struggle with new worthwhile ideas is a big issue.
What I got = my personal " time value off money" ... And a "10yrs" temp check on my priorities... But after reflection, I'm sure more insights to come .

Spot on. Took me ages to get anywhere with jazz piano and guitar because I was distracted by zillions of different videos and complex theory. I overcomplicated it unnecessarily. Only when I started focusing on small things at a time and listening a lot to core standards and ignoring everything else did I start to get anywhere!
15 year old here and will try to follow what you said. My goal is to become a doctor in the future and study I a prestigious university. For that I am trying my best in high school and cutting away all the distractions until I reach my goal. As you have mentioned, it takes a decade to truly get good and master something so I believe I be focused for the following 10 years I will achieve the results and the goals that I want. Would you give me any personal tips as a high schooler? Maybe mistakes which you have encountered as a 15/16 year old?
Wow, advice to myself at 15… Here we go: First of all, we are all different, and there is no single “right” or “wrong” way to live. I wish I had understood this earlier. Your friends, parents, and even society will try to tell you the “right” way to do things, but the truth is, nobody has all the answers. In my book, there are several right ways to do things-but only one wrong way: doing nothing. Yes, you’re young and have obligations, so it’s not fair to compare yourself to adults. But here’s the bottom line: having enough conviction to walk your own path is key. Another piece of advice? Travel and see the world. There are over 8 billion people on this planet-don’t get stuck in your small inner circle. Step out of your comfort zone. It will change how you see everything. You don’t need to lock down your career path right now. It’s way too early, and your opinions will likely change many times between now and 35. That’s okay. In fact, that’s how it should be. Don’t settle until you find what you’re looking for, whatever that may be. It might take time, and that’s okay too. Pay whatever it takes to have time alone to think. True wealth is having the freedom to do what you want when you want. Have values. Be different. Believe in something. Stand out-never blend in. Learn to work hard so you can eventually work smart. That’s probably it. Good luck!
Something is kind of missing here, something like peace in the daily routine and maybe the answer to ''What happens after ten years? Do we stop? Have we won more, or have we lost more for those ten years? For how long can we push ourselves so hard?'' However, I do appreciate the point about the focus and the simplicity, but it isn't as simple as it sounds, saying no to friends, and family, and distancing yourself from everyone who doesn't help you on your way to success. And I am not talking about what everyone would think of you, that's irrelevant, but I feel great when I've been helpful to a close friend, family, or even stranger, I feel like my life is worth living.
Thanks for the feedback. Here are a few additional thoughts: • I believe one of the most important goals in life is to find inner peace. • For some, that might mean helping others. For others, it might mean testing their true capabilities in the business world. • My point is that we shouldn’t push ourselves to achieve new things unless it’s truly our thing. For me, I’ve always wanted to test how good I truly am. When I realized that my inability to say no was holding me back, it brought me a surprising sense of calm. I guess you could say I’ve found more inner peace these days. • I never want to stop, retire, or quit doing the things I enjoy. Right now, that’s training, my business, and spending time with my kids. In the future, I’m not sure what it will be, but I know I want to keep going. • My number one goal is to live without regrets. The thought of saying, “I wish I had…” when I run out of time is what scares me the most. • I don’t care much about money anymore. I push myself to get better every day because I want to-not because I have to. Your path might be different. It could be doing charitable work or helping others in some other capacity. If that’s what fulfills you, I believe doing it to the best of your ability requires focus and the courage to say no to distractions. Lastly, I think people were meant to work-keeping both the body and the mind in motion. We all have our own way of doing that, and the key is to find what works for you.
@@erkkasuvanto Thank you for taking the time to answer. What was holding me back were two things: the size of my goals- they were just too humble, and the mentality of my father and mother, their understandings and beliefs that were out of pace with reality. If I have to advise someone who struggles to help themselves my advice would be to change the environment and their surroundings with something completely opposite so they could picture themselves from a distance.
