- Doom II RPG is a Java / iOS game made for mobile phones. It was developed by ID Software in conjunction with Fountainhead, and includes programming from John Carmack himself.
In this video I play through "Tycho Station", the first stage of the game.

YES! The long awaited playthrough. Brings me back to the channel's early days.
should've done this ages ago, but I had some technical difficulties way back then which delayed it and then it just kinda fell out of my mind for a while.
When I saw that vote pop up I had a sneaking suspicion we might be seeing more Doom RPG videos. So happy. My vote is to stick with the Java version for the nostalgia.
Even though I didn't play this particular game back in the day, the java format is very nostalgic for sure.
I first found your channel because I was looking for DOOM rpg content! Cool that this version has also been preserved and that you’re shining some light on it. Good stuff as always, Mr. Beef
And yes, I would 100% like to see you play the iOS version (via sourceport or whatever means)
Hell yeah, a fellow Doom RPG enthusiast :) It seems most people want me to continue the series with the java version, but I would love to do some kind of video showcasing the sourceport version as well. Maybe some kind of one off, like a review.
This is cool!
I vote for the Java version and reading as much as possible. Show off the full experience of this game. I don't think the mini-games are boring, so please play those to increase your stats as well.
I want to play the mini-games, I just messed up with the target practice one. I think I will read the logs from now on too. I assume as the game progresses they're more likely to have useful info.
I can't wait to see this! I played the original Doom RPG and Orcs & Elves, but for some reason I missed this one. I vote for continuing the original Java version.
I think 'nostalgia' and 'historical interest' are winning the vote :)
@@BeefGeeTV Noice. For me the most striking difference, besides the graphics and new mechanics, is that Doom II RPG much more tongue in cheek. The text is full of jokes, there are funny animations, etc. I don't mind it, but I prefer more serious tone of the original Doom RPG.
Ummmm..... WHY ON EARTH UA-cam HASN'T RECOMMENDED ME THIS CHANNEL BEFORE??? You sir got yourself a new subscriber and a like, I'm going to relax and enjoy watching this playthrough! AGES since I haven't played/seen a DOOM RPG, last time I remember was touching it on android lol! Stay DOOMed!!!!
Yo, welcome! Glad to hear you like the vids. I have a full playthrough of the first Doom RPG on my channel as well.
Oh man I really wish you stuck in some canned laughter! This is really super cool, please stick in as many voices as you can. 😁 I imagine this would be super fun to explore with friends over a discord stream, many cheeky giggles etc.
Yeah like a stream. There's a conversion of Doom RPG for GZDoom. I wonder if that can be played co-op...
I loved it when you played the first game. That game had a lot of charm for what it was but this is awesome. It's got lot's to it.
yeah this looks a lot more detailed and confident for sure. But I do really like the charm of the first one. I need to play Doom 2 RPG first but I suspect Doom 1 RPG might have more "soul".
Variety is the spice of life. I wouldn't mind seeing both versions. I'd be happy either way. I did enjoy watching the playthrough of the original Doom RPG.
seems like sticking with the java version has won, but maybe I'll do a one off video where I showcase Erick194's sourceport because it deserves it. It's very good.
I'd say keep the Java one. If you're gonna do slightly jank retro, best to own it. The last game had some little injokes in the logs, so I'm definitely for at least skimming them. Also, no need for nightmare.
8:55 I always felt a major issue with Doom was the lack of pocket lint. I'm glad they addressed this.
15:52 Tear the toilet out and throw it?
28:20 Yep, tear the toilet out and throw it.
33:07 "Armadillo" in the core dump?
nice catch on "Armadillo", assuming that was already a thing in 2009.
Stoked to finally see the sequel RPG! Curious if you'll mention the comic that this game came with apparently, neat lil' obscure media for Doom.
Late on feedback for it but, I'd definitely prefer sticking to the Java version for the tried and true experience although if it gets too irritating to play with the emulator running too fast I wouldn't be against swapping to the port.
Java has definitely won out, I will be sticking with it.
And yeah, I probably should at least take a look at the comic at some point as well.
Yay, DooM II RPG finally!
Brings back memories of when I first discovered your channel 😊
But let's be real.. this game is just so terrible! My god.. it barely represents DooM anymore lol
But because *you* are playing it, I am keen to watch every moment of your playthrough 🙂
Regarding your questions for us:
* Current "difficulty" is a good balance, imo
* This 'classic' version is great for historic/nostalgic reasons, which is what you excel at, imo
* Yes, please read every interaction and text box (but not duplicates obviously); you skipped through a few in this playthrough, and I found myself wondering what the text boxes said.
* IMO no need for different 'voices' but it's all good either way
* Yeah, play the minigames too! I mean, remember Turbo Turkey Puncher 3??? 🤭
Thanks, Beefy, really looking forward to this one!
Thanks so much for the dono inverse_of_zero! :)
Glad to hear you're excited ;) and it sounds most people are in agreement about the format of the playthrough, which is great.
However, I'm lowkey contemplating swapping to the new sourceport version for the next episode though. UA-cam doesn't display my custom thumbnails for 9:16 videos on mobile. So, I'm basically forced to make a 16:9 video to fix the issue. If everyone comments that they would much prefer I keep using java then I'll just swap back for episode 4 and episode 3 can just be seen as a 'comparison piece'.
BeefGee bringing the goods
It's not actually playing the doom music at double speed
yeah I didn't mean double speed, it sounds like it's playing two copies of the track layered over each other and out of time with each other slightly
Hey, use chainsaw more often!
Yeah fair >:) it doesn't seem to need ammo which is cool, but it does mean using turns/health to get up close.
@@BeefGeeTV TBF there were a lot of situations this episode where you were trading hits with demons in your face.
