Spectres can especially be annoying in darker areas of levels as their partial invisibility effect lets them blend into the surroundings. Two to three well-aimed shotgun blasts will do them in. If you are dealing with groups of them and find any tight corridors where only one at a time can follow after you, you can chainsaw them to death one at a time. -Lost Souls: Quite annoying with their attacks, especially as they can blindside you with their charges if you're not prepared. Against single ones, chaingun's quite effective to stun them until they die. In large groups such as in E3M2, they can get in the habit of charging and damaging each other. You can use this to your advantage to lower their numbers and use the chaingun or shotgun to take them out one at a time or if not confident enough in your evasive abilities, just plasma gun the whole group. -Cacodemons: In tight quarters, better to stun them with the plasma gun or chaingun to dispatch them. If there's enough distance between you and one, 2 or 3 rockets can kill one though they do usually attempt to keep distance from you if you fire rockets and there's enough space for it to move around. If they come in groups and there's enough area to run around, you're better off trying to blast them with rockets or the BFG while keeping your distance from them. Try not to engage in melee combat with them as their bite attack inflicts quite a bit of damage compared to their projectile attack. -Barons of Hell: They're just slow moving damage sponges and their projectile attack is easy enough to avoid if you keep your distance from one. Takes five rockets with the rocket launcher to kill one or even one charged BFG attack with all the tracers targeting it. If you have neither of those or a plasma gun (the high firing rate from it can usually stop them from attacking), better off using a shotgun to whittle down its health and evade its projectiles. Chaingun's not as effective on Barons since their stun chance is fairly low. -Cyberdemon: Before even bothering to engage it in the final level of Episode 2, get rid of all the Lost Souls scattered around since they can get in the way of your attacks on the Cyberdemon if you don't bother dispatching them. If you got the plasma gun in earlier levels with plenty of cells, it's quite effective at inflicting a lot of damage with its high firing rate. Just be careful of the Cyberdemon's rocket attacks since you can get killed in one attack if you get careless. If you have no plasma gun, you're in for a fairly long battle since the Cyberdemon's immunity to splash damage means it can take anywhere from 40-50 rockets to do it in. -Spider Mastermind: Quite easy if you have the BFG, as one or two up-close attacks with it can inflict enough damage to do her in coming from the large ball and tracer attacks. If you don't have the BFG for this, then there are two ways to go into this battle. 1. If you have plenty of rockets and plasma cells for the plasma gun from earlier levels, quickly kill off the Baron and two Cacodemons found in the three other points of the large arena. Then lure the Mastermind to the center of the arena with the middle room containing the Megaarmor and Plasma Gun. If you take cover from her machine gun attacks, the Mastermind is slow to attempt moving in position to try blasting you. As she is doing this, blast her with rockets or the plasma gun while she is still moving and take cover when she is at a point where you are open to her chaingun attack. You should eventually be able to wear her down with both weapons if you brought a decent amount of ammo for them. 2. If pistol starting the level or you don't have much for plasma cell or rocket ammo starting the final level of Episode 3, this tactic is advised though makes things a bit more difficult since it's more risky. Lure the two Cacodemons and Baron from their corners of the large arena and have the Mastermind's chaingun hit them. This will lead the three to engage in infighting with the Mastermind. This has the benefit of both distracting the Mastermind as she engages in combat with the other three monsters and also wears down her health. While she's distracted, gather up rockets from around the top of the arena and get the plasma gun within the middle room of the arena and team up with the monsters to finish off the Mastermind with plasma gun or rocket attacks.

If you want to box with the Hell Knights or Barons of Hell, dodge their melee attacks. This method comes with a high risk of having your face ripped off. Then, there's a barbecue issue because they can nail you with a fireball when you move in closely.
They can also easily throw a fireball in your face when you try to juke their melee. If you're not within a certain distance that will guarantee a melee hit, they'll throw a fireball instead.
Enjoyed your video. In my opinion hit scanners are often best delt with chain gun or shotgun. With the exception of cyberdemon and Spidey you can usually take out the rest with either chainsaw and beserk, without too much difficulty. Also I recommend playing episode 3-8 on ultra violence, pistol start for a bit more fun. Agree though that Spidey is far easier too take down then cyberdemon.
Cool video, and I think it's a really good guide for dealing with the IWADs, along with the Doom II video. I will say, though, as you get deeper into the custom stuff, you really can't afford to get too attached to using any one weapon for a specific type of enemy. There are times when it is the correct course of action to punch out cybers (if you're doing a tyson run or something) or BFG zombies (SWTW MAP31 for instance). You really need to read the fight and see what will clear out enough space for you to stay alive, and, if this means rocketting lost souls or pain elementals, so be it (just be VERY careful if this is what you need to do). All in all, I enjoyed this video, and I'd like to see your take on the new expansion (Legacy of Rust) It has much more modern design and revamps several enemies and weapons. .
Back when I made maps for zdaemon in 2010.. had a friend that made a mod that put the archvile into the original Doom.. it worked.. kind of but wasn't stable. Half the time when it attacked you it crashed
Generally speaking the shotgun is the most important weapon in Doom. Problem? Shotgun. Problem doesn't die? USE MORE SHOTGUN. You're spot on with the chaingun, it's most useful for crowds, but if you can discipline yourself to single shots it's useful AF as a long range sniping weapon, chainsaw is very very useful if you can corral demons into a bottleneck
I recently got into the Doom franchise after playing doom 3 psvr. I hope doome 3 gets some love aswell. hoping there is a monster guide for doom 3 aswell
Your warning about using the rocket launcher aginest the lost soul reminded me of an impromptu bit of roll play that happened on the thread I used to share my fan art for a rouge like inspired by Doom that I used to play in reaction to my take on a lost soul in one of my renders coming at the camera. Someone roll played grabbing a combat shotgun but not doing well. I join in grabbing my own combat shotgun, except I only had a single shell loaded and no extra ones in my invantory, so I throw it aside as I switch to a pistol as I let fly about the situation. Unfortunately for us the person who joins us uses a rocket launcher and instead of thinning down the hoard, they made it angrier. I understandably go chewing them out as I reload my pistol before drawing a second one to duel weld them as I continued chewing them out as I kept fighting the lost souls. My exact words were if i remember right, "ANY MORE BRIGHT IDEAS SOLDER!?! BECAUSE OF THAT LAST STUNT OF YOURS, WE HAVE A SEROUS CASE OF CHARLIE DANCING THE FOXTROT!!" Later I did a fallow up render, and the three of us were sorrounded by 32 of the blasted things coming from all sides, and the fool who got us into this mess is still using that rocket launcher. We could only be told apart by the weaponry we were using, and near my character was the shotgun I threw aside were it landed. Someone replied to the second render that the fool with the rocket launcher should have been using the discarded shotgun, to which I replied, that in less they had any ammo for it, it was nothing more then a glorified club. The fool who got us in that mess was wishing he had a BFG at his feet, but I replied back that he was stuck with what he used in the initial roll play because I stuck to what the three of us had used.
tl;dr The Spider Mastermind is fine as a final boss, the BFG (which you aren't given in E3M8 by the way) is just so overpowered it can liquify anything in mere seconds. One of the main strategies for dealing with Cyberdemons quickly in custom map sets is the BFG, it doesn't take very many hits from it either. The problem with the Spider Mastermind as a boss is the BFG you're given earlier in Episode 3, and the Cyberdemon wouldn't do much better because the BFG can easily do thousands of damage in just one shot.
Played this game ages ago. Loved it, but my computer broke. It didn't even occur to me to download it until a few days again. Just started play8ng it again tonight!
Someone on reddit told me that classic Doom was basic because all you do is spam the chain gun. I think they were bitter towards the game because of a skill deficiency.
the map Tricks and traps in doom 2 can really teach you how to use certain weapons I have a certain plan when i play that map for example I will not go into the cacodemon room without a chain gun rocket or plasma gun..... I once played with friends on that map and i told them specifially "If you have this gun then go into that room, otherwise do not go into that room." It's amazing how playing with godmode on can teach you how to play without it.
I played doom when I was 7 years old when it first came out . As a small kid . The game seemed very real to me. Killing the monsters. I remember crying 😂 after the first level , too scared to move forward. Kids these days are playing call of duty at 5 years old.
About rocket launcher: from large range, it's awesome aganst large groups. but only if you position yourself in a way you can dodge the charge and thus the incoming facerocket. so nah, imma still use rockets against lost souls and pain elementals, if needed
If you can ambush a cacodemon with the chainsaw, you’ll stun lock them and drain their health really fast. The plasma rifle isn’t really necessary to stun lock most monsters. Cutting a hole in a group of revenants and other monsters with an intermediate pain chance is what the plasma rifle is best for. If you’ve ever played Plutonia on a high difficulty, you’ll learn that.
I will say that the chainsaw is actually a terrible idea against pinky’s if you’re playing with fast monsters they will be able to hit you even as you’re using the chainsaw on them, if you’re playing with fast monsters enabled ultimately I would just avoid the chainsaw all together and just try to get a berserk pack another note is that they use the BFG in this is actually very inefficient, The BFG is most effective at extremely close range due to the BFG tracers that fire in a cone shape after the BFG ball explodes
It's hard but entirely possible to kill the spider mastermind with a single bfg shot. Also, at 200 health and armor with the plasma rifle you can go toe to toe and win. Modified versions such as Brutal DooM have solved these problems and have made the mastermind FAR harder to take down!
You can very seldom use the rocket launcher against Lost Souls when they are in a pack at far distance before they spot you and move in. Classic example Slough of Despair when the wall comes down - but move back quickly as possible 💀 🚀 💥
in Doom II and later on, a super shotgun is the most effective and handy weapon against the imps, once upon a time I killed 3-4 of them in only one shot!
Very well done video! I know I may sound like a stupid fanboy, but can you make a similar video but whit brutal doom monsters? I mean the mod is popular and the enemy behavior is changed
Chainsaw on cacos is a guaranteed kill, they have one of the highest painchances in the game. Also, I would mention that the Chaingun tactic when fighting imps should lean toward tapped bursts, like the pistol. It still fires far faster than the pistol, and thus can usually take one down in one or two clicks. Reason I mention this is that their higher health than the zombies means that the accuracy from burst firing the chaingun makes far more difference with imps.
Hope it can help! I'm excited to see if it or any Infighting Tactics make it into your Doom 2 guide. Due to the roster expanding, the roles of a lot of D1 monsters change a lot. For instance, the Baron is primarily an infighting tank in the first game due to their HP domination, but enemies like the Archvile and Mancubus both have noticeably lower HP and can rip them apart, and the Lost Soul is primarily a trap in the first game, but serves more as a weapon in 2.
In my experience, using the Chainsaw on cacos is not always a good idea. First off, even with the high pain chance, they can bite you through it if you're unlucky, so you need to backpedal to avoid the possible bites while not going so far as to leave the chainsaw range, stop stunning the caco and get shot. Then there's their size which, if you're close, makes them a huge screen in front of you. They can be used as a meatshield, but they also block a lot of your vision, and you need to pay attention to them in case they try to bite. This can leave you open to attacks from other enemies. So I usually chainsaw them only when they're completely or mostly alone (say, two cacos, or a caco and two imps), or if a really need to save ammo. Still, it is a great weapon choice against them in certain situations.
Statistically they should never be able to roll a hit if you can lock onto them, I actually encourage the opposite tactic of charging them down. Backing up is a sure way to get bit. Might be a source port thing if you get bit through the saw while charging. That said, its always iffy to usethe trick against more than one.
is there a mod that buffs the Spider Mastermind? I always felt like it should either have 10k health or be immune to BFG tracers and take reduced damage from the Plasma Rifle. That and buffing it's chaingun rate of fire by 50%.
You know, if other monsters can't reach you, you can calmly kill a cacodemon with the chainsaw, as it will stun it to death. BTW, if you shoot the spidermastermind with the bfg from rly close, there is a good change to kill it in one shot.
A lot of people have been saying that. I tried it in a livestream a couple weeks back, and you’re all right! I appreciate you guys helping out in the comments. There are so many ways to take out each enemy.
spider is better final boss. hit scan attack makes it a lot more dangerous. both demon and spider die in a few seconds with bfg so your example is not very good.
1. You are a console player or do not use mouse and keyboard. 2. Why use new DOOM style music? There video would have been so much better with Classic DOOM music or even asking Andrew Hulshult if you could use his DOOM 1 remade soundtrack. It is exponentially anything better than anything Mick Gordon has done. As an aside I do feel the midis fit in better with what classic DOOM is, a new DOOM game using Andrew Hulshut's work would be totally amazing. Just do not make it an arena shooter like DOOM2016 and Eternal. DOOM needs to move back to the Classic formula. 3. Talking about the content. You are thinking about the enemies in isolation. Which is nice but does not at all cover how to effectively deal with them. For example the zombie men (pistol and shotgun), the biggest issue with them is they are hit scan. Thus in a crowded pack, who do you kill first? The more damaging (per hit) and tanker projectile enemies or the less damage per hit and weaker but hit scan zombie men? The short answer is you need to very quickly look at the enemy pack and make your decision. There is no one size fits all decision. You might even want to rocket or plasma a pack of zombie men if it means eliminating them really fast before the pinkies get in your face as an example. Or kill the zombie men to remove them quickly to make a fight with a couple Barons way easier. Or . . . every situation has different and you need to adapt on the fly. 4. You did not at all mentioned fast monsters. This changes how you deal with monsters and which ones you prioritise in packs. Fast monsters attack more frequently so they move less. Pinkies excepted of cause, they rub way faster towards you so chainsawing them on fast monsters is a bad idea. How to deal with the enemies when in a mixed pack and what order on the killing priority list are they? This is what makes up a good DOOM monster guide. Thus I will say this is a good guide on the surface but for those who really want information on how to deal with monster packs (the majority of what DOOM is) will have to look elsewhere for a better guide.

Agree though that Spidey is far easier too take down then cyberdemon.
doom is one of the best games ever made. It is literally only surpassed by its sequels
All in all, I enjoyed this video, and I'd like to see your take on the new expansion (Legacy of Rust) It has much more modern design and revamps several enemies and weapons. .
2:21 You can also do this with the chaingun mind you. It's just that the second shot will always be inaccurate, unlike the first.
BECAUSE OF THAT LAST STUNT OF YOURS, WE HAVE A SEROUS CASE OF CHARLIE DANCING THE FOXTROT!!"
Later I did a fallow up render, and the three of us were sorrounded by 32 of the blasted things coming from all sides, and the fool who got us into this mess is still using that rocket launcher.
I like your points. Its always cool when a game can bring out different opinions and stuff. Allows for some nice debates.
Played this game ages ago. Loved it, but my computer broke. It didn't even occur to me to download it until a few days again. Just started play8ng it again tonight!
excellent video, and i'm only two minutes in!
Thank you I appreciate it
Someone on reddit told me that classic Doom was basic because all you do is spam the chain gun. I think they were bitter towards the game because of a skill deficiency.
I agree
Skill issue confirmed.
Trying to eliminate all the caco's in that level is so annoying. Even at 2X speed it was still ridiculous lol. Good luck with the channel!!
Thank you!
Great guide! Do one on berserk punching next?
the map Tricks and traps in doom 2 can really teach you how to use certain weapons I have a certain plan when i play that map for example I will not go into the cacodemon room without a chain gun rocket or plasma gun..... I once played with friends on that map and i told them specifially "If you have this gun then go into that room, otherwise do not go into that room." It's amazing how playing with godmode on can teach you how to play without it.
more like 2 really good BFGs or 1 super rng BFG shot.
I remember getting the Doom shareware when I was a kid. Thought I was a king lol. Played on my 486DX40 lol
Some tingling sensation that a new Doom is on it's way...
I played doom when I was 7 years old when it first came out . As a small kid . The game seemed very real to me. Killing the monsters. I remember crying 😂 after the first level , too scared to move forward.
Kids these days are playing call of duty at 5 years old.
I would only see my brother play it🙈 i was too scared as well to even move!
In Ultraviolence+ you get a lot of ammo, despite for your own good, you have to know every secret in Doom to make the levels easier.
About rocket launcher: from large range, it's awesome aganst large groups. but only if you position yourself in a way you can dodge the charge and thus the incoming facerocket. so nah, imma still use rockets against lost souls and pain elementals, if needed
Not so many people know about this, but the Spider Mastermind built-in chaingun actually shoots shotgun shells.
You can fire 2 shots before spread affects your aim.
The grimacing portrait in the HUD is your cue.
I will say that the chainsaw is actually a terrible idea against pinky’s if you’re playing with fast monsters they will be able to hit you even as you’re using the chainsaw on them, if you’re playing with fast monsters enabled ultimately I would just avoid the chainsaw all together and just try to get a berserk pack
another note is that they use the BFG in this is actually very inefficient, The BFG is most effective at extremely close range due to the BFG tracers that fire in a cone shape after the BFG ball explodes
Fair enough👍🏻
Good stuff
I appreciate it!
Point blank with the BFG against a spider mastermind is enough to 1 shot it, and the tracers are very effective with crowd control for weak mobs too.
It's hard but entirely possible to kill the spider mastermind with a single bfg shot. Also, at 200 health and armor with the plasma rifle you can go toe to toe and win.
Modified versions such as Brutal DooM have solved these problems and have made the mastermind FAR harder to take down!
this got reccommended to me randomly, it is a good quality video - however, it is not a very good guide to doom's monsters imo
Well even the Cyberdemon is a cakewalk if you have the BFG.
You can very seldom use the rocket launcher against Lost Souls when they are in a pack at far distance before they spot you and move in. Classic example Slough of Despair when the wall comes down - but move back quickly as possible 💀 🚀 💥
bro the doom slayer face after killing spider mastermind in 18 seconds was like : what a disappointment
in Doom II and later on, a super shotgun is the most effective and handy weapon against the imps, once upon a time I killed 3-4 of them in only one shot!
I got the doom slayer collection and the limited run copy of doom too. I’ll definitely can the limited run sealed.
Monster Guide: Shoot util they die
Essentially yes lmao
make a follow up for Doom II!
Its in the works
How did you forget the chainsaw for both the Caco and lost souls? Great weapon for both of them.
Those Pinkies are vicious on UV+😳
Very well done video! I know I may sound like a stupid fanboy, but can you make a similar video but whit brutal doom monsters? I mean the mod is popular and the enemy behavior is changed
We shall see
From one small content creator to another, great video. Hope to make a collab with you, I know a few things about classic Doom games.
Appreciate it a lot!
7:45 earape much? The plasma rifle sound was bad enough but it's somehow worse in reverse
I call Cacos “killer tomatoes.”
I like your input. Ill have to give some of these a try next time I play.
Best game ever made.
DOOM when DOOM music kicks in.
Daemons and Cacodaemons i deal using the chainsaw. I find a narrow place where they need to line up...
is there a mod that buffs the Spider Mastermind? I always felt like it should either have 10k health or be immune to BFG tracers and take reduced damage from the Plasma Rifle. That and buffing it's chaingun rate of fire by 50%.
Ill just use chainguns on em!
Ahh god i love those pesky imps!
Let me know what you thought below!
Respect for using the new Unity Port and not something like GZDoom.
I don't understand how the Lost Soul survived the rocket...
Do one for Doom 2!
In the works!
8:22 its SPIDER MASTERMIND not spiderdemon
Same thing👍🏻
its not - SPIDER MASTERMIND is the oficial name
"Pinky demon will charge the player at Medium Speed"... Press DOUBT in Nightmare(or fast monsters enabled) diff 😨
why not doom 2, most of my major pain in the asses come from that one, nice video but still
I decided for this video I’d focus on the original game however I would be interested in expanding the DOOM 2 monsters into a shorter video.
@@nickhuthmedia oh, sorry
4:04 BOOOO using the censored beseker and medkit pack!
Lost Souls can be stunlocked with pistol.
try to chainsaw pinkies with fast monsters
Doom is the game which was a game
spider is better final boss. hit scan attack makes it a lot more dangerous. both demon and spider die in a few seconds with bfg so your example is not very good.
I do see your point. But 4 hits is still pretty weak. I still think its up to opinion.
thx for baron of hell
Of course!
You forgot about one of the most fun strategies: instigating infighting. Nooby.
Doom and Half-life are the best games.
9:46 i hate this moment

You should do a Fortnite tutorial
1. I am on console since it’s what I have available to me.
2. I used non copyrighted music to avoid getting strikes.
The infighting is the most unique mechanics they did to the game that surpasses all that time and until now,
Back when DooM wad good andnot the absolute garbage wr got these days
use the zanrdonum port please not this weapon wheel shit
