If cleared by your DR, do PT for your wrist. The Theraband flexor is a miracle worker for strengthening the wrist and elbow. The Tyler twist, reverse twist, will become your new best friend. Expect about 2 - 3 months before you’re fully recovered, but with PT and proper maintenance (exercise regime), you will recover.
Thanks for the info! I haven't been to a doctor about it yet because I'm not sure if it's THAT bad. But this has definitely got me to buy gel pads for my mouse and keyboard and I will start taking breaks way more often now. Also, while I wait for the gel pads to actually arrive I'm using my computer WAY less. But yeah, some exercises probably are a good idea.
wrist injury seems to be the bane of gamers unfortunately, hope you feel better each day <3
Yep, I'm a walking stereotype 😅 yeah it is feeling much better as I rest it.
@@BeefGeeTV Good to hear this! :) btw. you should see TimeOfDeath, straps on both wrists and he couldn't play Doom for months now. He was doing whole idgames from the beginning playthrough like 3 hours daily while also playing guitar and drumming in spare time... he was at part 400 when he had to stop because of the wrists :(
@@demogorgonzola Yeah, I've watched some of ToD's stuff. Even before the straps he had to use a trackball and cushion. I don't (and have never) use my wrists THAT much and he's a bit older than me so hopefully I can avoid a similar fate. I also only play guitar, not drums lol.
@@BeefGeeTV stay strong, then, let's have hope for the future! :)
Nice triple kill on the revenants!
That was VERY satisfying!
Really nice infighting in the BFG secret!! That fight can be really inconsistent in my experience.
I agree, although I find it works out well way more often than not. Problem is that if it goes poorly it kills me. There's no in-between.

I should go into VG voice acting 😅
19:44 That 30 damage pinky bite 😵
Also, get yourself some silicon/gel wrist pads. They've saved my wrists even though I have carpal tunnel, and I can use my pc for half a day and still not have any pain.
They're already in the post and until they arrive I'm hardly using my computer at all.
It's already an fantastic achievment, hats off to you sir. But please, don't hurt yourself too much. 😁
Thanks! Yeah, after my voice giving out and now this Sunlust seems to be cursing me lol. It's all good though, it all definitely looks worse through video than it is. My voice is fine, just had a bad night for some reason (probably too many sparkling waters and therefore reflux), and my wrist is already feeling much better too (I have gel pads on the way). I'm just getting older🙄and I need to start being a little gentler to my body. But I'm still only in my mid 30s and in good health generally speaking... afaik 😐
Give your wrist a rest! Not to worry with taking a break over the holiday season!
I was planning on giving Sunlust sundays a rest through the xmas period anyway, my wrist basically confirms it. I'd like to still try and get map27 out this week but then maybe aim (keyword there: AIM) to have map28 out on Sunday the 5th of January. I'll still try and upload other videos throughout though. Maybe something xmas doom related.
Woot! Nice job man, I’ve had wrist problems before for the exact same reason. I found Voltaren gel helps too but resting it is deffo the best way to go. Emerald Spire next and then… yikes 👀
Yikes, indeed! Thanks for the tip on the gel! My wrist already feels WAY better just for resting it for a couple of days.
I wonder how you get all the items on the next map 🤔
Hot tip: I won't lol. They require some crazy double arch-vile jumps that are ridiculously hard to pull off.

Afrit means "demon" in Arabic, so if you go by the Arabic rules, the plural of Afrit should be Afarit. (Another piece of irrelevant information by me, yay)
Well I mean that's not irrelevant at all it's very relevant. I'll try and remember that better than I remembered "crenellations" lol

MOOD
If you want blood, you got it If you want blood, you got it Blood on the streets, blood on the rocks Blood in the gutter, every last drop You want blood, you got it Yes you have
This map took me over a year to beat it. Sunder helped build up my chops the most to eventually get there.
Haha, Sunder being practice for Scythe 2 is like learning to drive an F1 car before passing your driving test 😅 having said that, it's kind of a similar story for me with Speed of Doom and Sunlust helping me get good enough to beat Scythe 2.
I did know that you could play Doom 2 with a mouse (I didn't play Doom 1 til WAY later in life) but I just never liked how it felt. It felt weird and awkward, what with the way dragging it backwards and forwards made you move backwards and forwards instead of looking up and down the way it is nowadays. That's why I played so many early 90's fps's kb only. Now that we live in the modern era and have source ports like gzdoom obviously I use the mouse now. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Yep vertical mouse movement sucks and there was no way to turn it off in vanilla Doom. Third party programs that disabled it used to be really popular.
This is one of my favorite maps, but it is a bit on the easier side for sure. But just running around nuking everything, but not blindly, is a lot of fun. There's still enough of a challenge here so that you're not just sleeping through it. Love it. Great vid!
Yeah it's a very fun map and only "easy" relative to the other stuff I've been playing recently.
In Shad M. Brooks yell: CRENELLATIONS!!! :D But yea, that's with this battlement is called as a whole. The individual vertical sticking parts behind you can hide from incoming attacks are "merlons" and the gaps are "crenels". Additionally, there might be holes in the floor at the edge of the wall shuts big enough to shoot arrows or pour something at attackers, they are called machicolations. Thank you for attending to my Shadiversity lecture. ;)
Haha damn I knew I was probably messing it up! I was close though 😅 "crenels" I'll remember though.
CRENulations 🙄 Nice work with all the swooping about, remarkably smooth. Thing that flummoxes me with Afrits and Evil Marines is how to take a good BFG shot - their movement logic (and their projectiles) are so decombobulating compared to standard best practice you can often empty all your ammo and barely scratch them.
Damn I was so close 😅 and, for me, evil marines: back up a bit and let the tracer spray help. Afrits: rush in and smother them. Often you'll run under their projectile spam.
Fear was my first encounter with Scythe funnily enough. That level was much smaller than this one with an infamous kill count of 666 enemies I often wonder why Erik didn't finish Scythe X. That only has 10 levels in it
Scythe X looked like it was going somewhere interesting for sure. Such a shame. And fear is one of my favourite maps ever. Beating it for the first time was such a huge rush.
@@reptongeek From what I read, he's now a doctor based in Stockholm. His profession means he can't map anymore.
I love this power fantasy! Giving you nothing but a BFG, tons of cells, loads of enemies, and a banging MIDI rendition of Wanderlust by Nightwish! Just two more, and Scythe 2 is done!
It's what Doom is all about 😎
This video helped me to understand which version I used to play when I was a kid and it's definitely 1.666. I also remember that there wasn't this "Secret Found" alert on the screen as well.
yeah, vanilla doom never had that. You only got the percentages on the stats screen at the end.
@@BeefGeeTV yes, and all that gray bars on Underhalls and the remaining considerations perfectly matches with the version (1.666) that I've played. I've just got to play Doom again after 2010's and it was probably already that 1.9. Do you have any videos showcasing differences on Doom 1? I'm asking because I remember playing a 1993 version which was shareware (no Nightmare difficulty) and then my dad brought a version with 3 episodes (I don't clearly remember, but I believe there wasn't nightmare difficulty as well) and I'm not sure but it seems that there's no switch on one of the pillars ni the beginning of the first level. Then only many years later I've got to play Ultimate Doom on PC and it had few things that I've noticed that were different, including nightmare difficulty and an extra 4th episode.
bruh you are crazy 😅 worst part is yet to come though
Yeah, maps 28 and 29 are probably worse and map30 is next level again. But I'm gonna try!
You are at your best when you are desperate :) gg pal!
Whatever gets the job done I guess... 😅
Spectacular ❤.
Not surprised this one took a long time to beat. Hard HARD map! I agree that the caco side is the tougher one. If you do the hell knight side first, you can try to save some extra cells and use the BFG to cut through the caco cloud much faster. Takes a lot of the edge off.
Yeah, maybe I should have gone for that, but I like having enough BFG to quickly kill the mancubi in the stair fight. But yeah, maybe I could have done it in like 45 attempts instead lol.
Speechless performance. I mean, doing this with mouse and keyboard is already a struggle. Just awesome... 👍🏼
Thanks, very kind considering I had to "brute force" it.
I just realized that probably seeing the version "1.666" so many times when I was young, probably contributed to me getting confused at an actual programming job, since there was a day where I needed to compare version 1.6 of something, to version 1.15 , and I mistakenly thought that the version 1.6 was higher than the 1.15 because I read those like decimal values (which they aren't). So if you think about it, doom kinda made the same mistake when making the version 1.666 since the next version must have been something like "1.667" , not 1.7 .
Almost all of Doom's version numbers used the first decimal: 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 etc. I assume they just didn't think they'd put out that many versions. And then, when they got to 1.6, it was just way too tempting to make that joke. Also, ID software was just a small game studio from an era where this kind of thing was often done in a much more ad-hoc manner anyway.
fabulous
Congrats man! But hey, don't push yourself tooo hard. If it helps, you could do post commentary. Those type of videos can be just as fun and at least it preserves your voice... And maybe your sanity as well 😂
Haha, I was only recording for maybe just over an hour. I have nfi why my voice died so bad because it usually doesn't. Maybe I'd do post commentary for God Machine if that proves too hard to do any other way.
Rest, warrior. Sunlust still requires more of you.
MUCH more, that's the scary thing. Although, I actually don't see myself having this much trouble with some of the later maps (famous last words though...)
Incredible
damn, 67 attempts. The perserverence is admirable, especially for doing it in one session. That'd be depressing for me. I had it easy (played KBM?) and got away with no deaths at all, but if I had to take that many I would probably just give up for the day or week. Stay strong and good luck on the future maps! My route was different, and honestly I see it as much easier. The first place I go is to the red key path, the one that begins with lots of rockets and the hell knight wall. I don't use many BFG shots in the entire red key path, only about 4 at most. I keep the BFG ready while making the run past hellknights and archviles, use it once in the cyberdemon fight if some unaggrod barons or archviles are pushing me into the corner and make 2 pre-planned BFG shots on the staircase fight. The staircase fight is the hardest fight for me, and I can only assume it's because I'm doing it on a tighter BFG-budget than other people and the saved cells make everything else easier in comparsion. I was afraid of dying on every single fight on the red key path. There's no guarantee that you'll make it when you run past the hellknights, the cyberdemon fight can very easily go wrong if monsters (especially archviles) don't participate and the staircase fight on a budget is intense. But once I was finished with the staircase fight I knew that I won, I'll explain. So the yellow key path has the courtyard. I can agree with it being the hardest fight in the map, so it'd make sense to go for it first, but that's actually true only if you haven't done the other path first and hoarded 8 bfg shots worth of cells there. The cacodemons are there essentially to waste time. You need to clean them up as fast as possible so you can lock down the revenant hallway in peace, that's the win condition, and when you have so much ammo for the BFG achieving that really becomes trivial. When I got to the courtyard I used almost all of my BFG ammo to massively speed up caco cleanup. I saved just one shot for later. Revenants get released at some and become a massive threat if they are allowed to spill out, but that won't happen when cacodemons are all gone. There'd be nothing preventing you from locking down their corridor by spamming rockets there, there's no interruption. That's what the BFG spam achieved with no stress. The rest of the yellow key path is also trivial. I'd struggle a lot with the cramped hell nobles fight, but that's what I saved the BFG shot for. I shoot it at them as soon as they appear and that kills 3 hellknights immediately. I finish the fight by sneaking behind where the hellknights appear, drop out of the arena and come back to the platform nearby, where the filler chaingunner ambush took place, and SSGing them from safety. I actually didn't know about the splash damage cheese until I beat the map and looked at how others do it, but it didn't impact me because one BFG shot is all it took to disarm this fight. The final area with the yellow key is just easy no matter what state you come to it in. So overall, the yellow key is nothing but easy fights _if_ you do the red key path first and hoard cells, that's why I chose to do it later.
That sounds like a good route. Having lots of BFG for the cacos would definitely help me immensely. I tried routes that went that way first, maybe I should've given them more effort. I find the mancubi on the stairs to be a real pain in the arse and killing them rockets is often too slow. But maybe I would've finished quicker by going that way anyway, because I'm nowhere near as bad at the stairs as the courtyard and, as you say, every other fight is trivial except the deaf barons, but even then, it's reasonably doable. Funny thing is I definitely felt like I was getting better at dealing with the revenants and if I just stopped earlier that night, got a good sleep, and came back in the morning I probably could have done it in many fewer attempts.
I just went and tried it doing the staircase first and not using the BFG at all until the cacodemons in the courtyard... and it only took my 3 attempts to get past the deaf barons, and then I beat each of the staircase and courtyard first time of asking... kill me now 😅
GG on the Proxyon, very nerve-wrecking just to watch... I can only imagine what you're been through after those 60+ attempts! Also, all those F-bombs... I feel, it's a subtle foreshadowing of a certain penultimate map wink-wink :) BTW. From the organizational point of view, with this many takes it might be beneficial to switch to post-run commentary, either for full length or just the ultra-focus parts. While it's sacrificing some of the raw reactions your vocal chords will thanks you :)
I might do post commentary for God Machine if I need to start trying something to get it done. That map is different gravy compared to everything else.
@@BeefGeeTV True, that would be a good call :)
Darn, 67 attempts? That's serious dedication! And keyboard only is truly a feat! Rest your voice well after this! Also, that MIDI rendition of Dreams from The Incredible Machine 3 takes me back to my childhood playing the games!
Yeah, I was maybe a bit too bloody minded about getting it done that night. Should've stopped after like 20 and came back a different day. I nearly did it 1st try though!! That was a really annoying death in that run. Imagine I just don't die there and beat the staircase. The fine margins between looking like a doom god and a scrub😅
Just keep swimming, err shooting
That's the plan. I had a bad day recording this one but I'm confident I can do the rest (except maybe map30 lol).
...with the Whales? ;)
@@demogorgonzola Oooo nice one... 😁
Wheeeeee fantastic job, man! Jeeeeesus this would be so hard with the keyboard controls. 😅 just all the sudden turns and stuff are made so much harder, ay. Do you think for the really long ones you might do em with a save, like before the outdoor arena in God Machine etc, or just try and push through? I know trying to hit the switches in the Cyberdemon telefrag fight is so bloody hard because the switches are small and I found precise movement really difficult with keyboard only. Good luck for the next few!
Yeah, the relatively slow turning, plus the inability to quickly look around and survey the scene, is exactly what made the revenant courtyard so hard for me. Luckily those sort of fights are quite rare and I am getting better at managing them. This might have looked painful but it's at least good practice. Despite being annoyed at myself I did actually have fun recording this one. I'm definitely going to give God Machine a red hot crack saveless, even if it takes me months. However, there's no denying that it's in a league of it's own difficulty wise. The "Sunlust Sundays" playlist may end up sitting at "31" for a LONG time. I'd be down to stream, or just make videos, of my practice sessions for God Machine though.
@ oh that would be fun! Streaming would be cool 😎
Hell yeah Happy Sunday morning!! I knew you’d clutch it in time
Well, I got it done by Thursday, but "clutch" is a probably a kind way to describe that performance 😅
Because I literally didn't have a mouse!!
What an insanely difficult map for the initial release of Scythe 2! And Erik Alm definitely picked the perfect music track! Can't wait for Nightmare and Haunting Dreams!
Yeah, not much harder stuff being released back in 2005 (certainly not famous stuff). Also, not looking forward to map29? It is a bit of an acquired taste tbf.

The prequel to this one is in Hell Revealed - Level 26 as opposed to Level 27. Both levels are on Doomworlds Most Memorable Maps Also of note is the six secrets. In the original Scythe the most secrets in a level was five, shared between I Dunno Torn and Fire and Ice
Huh, that is a cool stat. I guess Erik thinks the size of a map is what dictates secret count.
That is a very intimidating map to single segment, at leas it was for me. It's just one tough area after the other. Specially that "Mount Pain" area (or Candy Mountain as you called it). And I think I died once to those final cyberdemon and afrit, very painful lol
After playing through Sunlust map24 recently this one felt relatively straightforward 😅 it is still a very dangerous map though. The mountain area is about as tough as a lot of Sunlust fights and I feel like I need that invuln for the outside area, which is maybe the toughest fight in the map.
So lemme tell ya. There is a tiny detail in this map that mimics real life that I've NEVER seen in a doom map before. The staircase in the mancubus area off the left of the main hall. See those tiny dark 'steps' on the stairs? In real life, those are weights used to push a red carpet against the staircase so it lays properly.
Interesting! Can you give me a timestamp? edit: nvm BeefGee pointed it out
Yeah I love that detail too! Glad I remembered to point it out, albeit briefly. It's subtle, simple, but really clever, sector art (doomcute even).
Stay strong, my friend. The final push has started. And if you need support, go hug yourself :)
Very kind, thank you!
Some seriously unlucky damage rolls in this run! Props for keeping it cool and completing the run! Brutal map, and a long one too. Such a struggle the whole time, but it feels so satisfying to finally complete.
Thanks! Well, I kept cool enough 😅
21:28 yeah I did the same. Back onboard again though ;)
Happens to the best of us ;)
I like this map. It’s quite interesting as it’s got a Romeo’s head ending to it. I like it.
The effect of the machine blowing up works pretty well
