I own an M99 with the 29 inch fluted barrel. The muzzle brake makes recoil very pleasant. The pressure in your sinuses is another thing all together. After the first shot you feel as if your nose is running. After a half dozen or so, I am done for the day as it feels like the onset of a sinus headache. Really fun overall, and everyone I have let shoot it walks away smiling.
I gotta mention, I have shot a .50 at a local gun range! When I shot it all I could do was laugh after taking the shot. The power of this thing is unreal and it sucks the air out of your lungs after the shot! Its an amazing experience like no other!
I won a M99 with the fluted barrel in a raffle at a local gun shop. It will be a bit before I shoot-but I am on a farm with a distance of roughly 1000 yds from the back porch to the woods at the back of the property. I will have to reinforce the dirt mound I have made at the edge of the woods that I shoot my 30-06 and .308 into-but this will make that big mound a small pile in no time. Will hopefully have the cash saved up come spring to put a Leupold Mark VHD on her and once we warm back up some-letter rip!
Yes I have a m99 with bors system scope and computer, used up all my ball ammo for brass to reload with amax to maximize accuracy. I have taken it white tail hunting 600+ yards, took the entire head off. I now have to het past that flinch.
I have a M99 and it's a ton of fun to shoot, the Tank brake does wonders to the recoil, the back blast smacks you in the face though, not enough to hurt but enough to need a break every few shots. I also have a CZ550 in .375 H&H and the M99 is far more recoil friendly, on par with 30-06. You also mentioned why you would need a semi-auto, I'll say the semi auto (M82) has a sprung barrel and large bolt assembly that absorbs a great deal of recoil without the need for the massive comp on the front of the gun making it a much more pleasurable experience. The M82 is however twice the cost of the M99 and .50 BMG isn't known for being "affordable" to shoot.
Shot 50 cal rifles in Military and civilian world. Will recommend a shooting mat is loose dirt or sand, the brakes are brutal on debris. Not sharp recoil like heavy magnums, it's a heavy push but moot with brake, pressure blast will clear sinuses

Hey PD, thanks for the great comment and insight, I love it that everyone walks away smiling :) - FT
Is the muzzle brake on yours the straight arrow kind or does it widen like the one in the video

Wicked! Thanks for your comment! - JK
The Barrett m 99 is a great design I love shoting mind it's a Blast to shoot literally
defiantly has recoil they are similar to a 12 Gauge Shotgun with Slugs. You know what your shooting when you pull the trigger though!
Haven't shot a Barrett but have shot a browning .50 machine gun in Cambodia - full auto yer boy
Very cool!
I’d be hunting Bigfoot or elk 😂
This is the perfect bigfoot rifle ;) - JK
You'd be hurting enemy tanks with the right shots if they ever make it here. Shoot the track chains!
Because who would shoot anything short of an attacking rhino (which America only has in zoos) with a bmg 😂
You guys can have 50BMGs in New Zealand?! That is awesome!
We can have them is Australia as well
In bolt action, yes we can. Pretty epic! - JK
50bmg is for girls
And now Australian owned.
Very interesting news! What do you make of NIOA's acquisition? - JK
Uk and Aussie you can’t own a Glock but an anti materiale rifle is ok.
That will teach the watermelons a thing or two!!
We'll have to give it the fruit test soon! - JK
I'd be hunting BMP-3s.
Lol, good hunting comrade ;) - JK
Far out aye how much will that set you back
I have seen it here in Auz for 13k, bullets are crazy but imagine the fun to be had!
