If it wasn't absolutely absurd to use this would actually make a very useful anti-sniper infantry weapon. I said to use because anyone not hiding behind a cement truck will have the bullet pass through them before anything happens. Technically I think you would work as a counterterrorism weapon because anyone seeing that weapon deployed would suddenly decide that living to see another day sounds good. The tactical nuke in rifle form.
@@leechowning2712 Its not that usable for counterterrorism, it has too much force so it will go through the intended target then it will keep on trucking absolutely ruining the day of any innocent souls a good distance behind the target. The massive potential for needless collateral damage seriously limits the usability.
What's more over kill is using a 50 cal to shoot down a helicopter. This didn't pass prototype because it turns out almost any rifle can shoot down a helicopter if you can hit it. Spent over a decade as airframe in the army. Even worked on the hind at JRTC... and yes, even the hind can be shot down by a regular old AK if you are dumb enough to hang out and put the bird in that situation. You can only armor parts of a helicopter and the majority of it is 32 thousandths skin (can vary some, but you get the idea) and thicker aluminum structure. Unless you just target the plates on the side, you can blast through a rotary wing aircraft easy. Speed > armor on helicopters.
“Let me show you it’s features!” Jörg Sprave and Brandon Herrera collaboration? Oh the glorious monstrosities (and possible Geneva Convention violations) you two could create if that ever happened.
seeing you run around with that rifle gives me an idea: you and Matt (demo ranch) should do a 3 gun competition with your most impractical guns possible for each category.
@@maxsteinlechner6085 I'd assume it's the lack of precision. It doesn't have any way to really track a moving object, so it is rendered pointless even if it's cheaper.
@@talon_xi also: what's the realistic application? Let’s be honest, this is his new home defense weapon. Imagine breaking in and then seeing your buddies being splattered by a man with a shoulder Barrett.
@@reptiloidmitglied2930 Yep. Same reason I'm not a big fan of shotguns for home defense; pattern entropy will mean you either seriously chunk the bad guy, or seriously chunk the bad guy but a couple pellets might hit something important, depending on distance and choke, or lack thereof. You want to disable the assailant, not damage anything important.
I was hoping mr. Mat Best would arrive at his range to have some quality time sighting in his big game hunting rifles just to find Brandon running in circles with a bullpup Barrett .50 cal. on his shoulder. Definitely not your average range day
I've said it a million times, this is the type of application bullpups should be used for. Larger calibers, out of longer barrels, giving you more mobility than a nonbullpupped counterpart. There's issues within bullpups that are just ever-present, but bullpup rifles in larger calibers is the most practical application for the concept, well logically atleast. It's still a good few generations away from being a perfect concept. If this went past the prototype stage, we'd likely see quite a few variants or other companies designing off the pattern being used for more forward based snipers (I guess is the best way to word it), or whatever else you could dream up.
I don't see much practical application for bullpups at all. If you're that worried about mobility, you are likely in a situation where longer reloads can be a major issue. It would basically have to be something that either uses large drum mags or belts, and I'm not sure that would offer any real benefit anyway.
@@internetcatfish the point of bullpups (imo) is to bring larger calibers into more compact packages. Makes toting things like this around more plausible. Before was just an example on how you could throw a few guys on the front lines with a few bullpups in something like a .338 Lapua or whatever to serve whatever purpose alongside your standard rifles
@@internetcatfish I think you overexaggerated bullup reload speed there. It sucks but it's not *that* horrible to the point of having to use "large drum mags" unless you're a literal hardcoded robot.

@@FJaypewpew But Ian can still make it interesting given the history. He has done many videos on variants of well known military firearms that just didn't make it like their predecessor. One was the full auto, box magazine-fed Garand.

I was in Laos, Air America. In a Chinook landing when I took a 50cal from a sniper. Took out both hydraulic systems and set us on fire. I have total respect for that round.
You mean you were never in Laos and Air America was never in Laos because officially we were never in Laos. Just like Nixon sending us into Cambodia it never officially actually happened. I knew a FAC pilot some years back who flew in southern Laos where there wasn't much action according to him. He had a bunch of super 8 film and I tried putting a documentary together with it but he totally flaked out on me. I couldn't imagine puttering around in a little Piper Cub or something similar while Viet Cong or North Vietnamese regulars took pot shots at you let alone a 50 caliber.

As a former paratrooper I think it is fabulous.. I would love to have one for anti vehicles in the apocalypse. Perfect for closer ranges in mountainous areas..
The military and Barrett got together and said let's patent something that can shoot down drones. And they did, and they were happy, until they discovered any military rifle can shoot down a drone.
Helicopter is flying towards a squad that has a Barrett M82a1 realistically he's likely to have to go prone to accurately shoot at the helicopter but because the way the bipod is it would have trouble aiming up and would likely have to shoulder fire the gun which is not very practical. The military asking for a shoulder mounted one makes perfect sense and solves this problem perfectly.
Saying the round dumped "like 3% of its energy" into that white claw would mean you think 34 white claws can stop a 50 round. Can you please demonstrate armor plating consisting of 34 white claws?

@@tylerrye60 I am sure he'd do it or consider it it it was easy. I didn't know about those limits until I started looking at outdoor ranges near me. Although I am sure there's plenty of ranges that allow 50 bmg where all those youtubers go.
If you could find a range for it, it's still a handicap gun for Ian as it's purely R/H operation only! 😜I mean, shoulder that thing up L/H and SEE (very briefly) where that cocking handle is going! ☹
Maybe I’m wrong but this seems to be a much better alternative to a standard anti-material rifle, which is generally used just for long range targets. With the ability to shoulder fire and run around, it seems like very good anti-everting gun. Not only do you have the option for long range fire but you can also use it as mobile anti-vehicle rifle, that can penetrate light armored targets. Walk up to a window or alleyway and quickly fire some .50 Slap rounds in the side of a vehicle. Or use explosive bullets and target observation drones 🙂 It’s just missing a bipod.
I'm not sure you could fire this from the prone. I feel like the optic would be in the completely wrong place. Though they could perhaps make a version that does both well. Then again, I don't know how great the need is for a semi-auto shoulder fired .50 cal. I think things like RPGs, bazookas, javelins, etc. would fill this roll far better(and with less recoil to boot.) I was actually wonderimg in the video how effective .50BMG would be against a helicopter. I imagine if you hit it in just the right spot(or hit the pilot, though I think they usually have two pilots?) it could work, but again, I can't help but think there better options out there.
@@Mockturtlesoup1 Well each weapon has its purpose. There are a lot of targets for an anti-material rifle and making it easier to handle so it can be fired in different circumstances, just makes it more flexible.
I’m surprised the camera man survived a hit by a fired .50 BMG round, even stayed dry from a blown up soda bottle 2 feet away from them. This is proof that the camera man is immortal
Funny story about shooting 50cal in the air 🤣 I was in basic training at Ft.Benning, GA. And the day we were doing 50cal tripod training, we were given an ammo strip with 50 or so rounds. Waiting in line and hearing all the systems go off was just amazing. But they had alot of privates to get through in a short amount of time. So after an hour or so another 50. is delivered and me and some other privates are given the privilege to go help the DS's and carry it over there and with their help set it up. So after all is done I get to go first, DS shows us how to load it with my ammo strip and we are all huddled around. 👀👀👀👀👀 🤣 But anyways i get told to sit down and to go in bursts (DS said yell "DIE MF DIE MF DIE MF DIE!" 🤣😭 I'm serious 🤣) and to do this until my ammunition was depleted. So I sit down, get my thumbs in the triggers and we are on the top of a hill looking over a valley into some thick pine trees biggest I ever seen in my life. So DS said "Fwr" (fire when ready), and I'm looking at everyone's tracers going down range and they are shooting down towards the middle and bottom sections of the trees and range, they have some cars and tanks buried in the side of the range to shoot at, and I start shooting and these bullets are literally going going so far and so high over the tree line I'm watching the arch of the stream of tracers going over the trees by about 10-20ft. DS I guess finally turns around and 👀 and him and like 3 of them are all like "YOOOOOO PVT HOLD ON, CEASE FIRE!" As they are literally holding back so much laughter it started to make some of the other privates that were around start to wonder what was going on. They had to adjust the elevation on this thing for so long it seemed 🤣💯 but man it was one of the funniest/coolest moments I have ever gotten to experience. But that's my 50.cal story! And the MGS4 reference was top notch 🤌 that game was first experience with the A2 and wanted one ever since. That thing shoots through like 15 enemy's at once if you can get them to line up right 💯👀.
I can’t tell if I love the way it looks or hate it. It’s simultaneously awesome and horrendous This just occurred to me how the *fuck* does the ATF classify this thing?
I was thinking more of a smart round or something because you would probably need a larger caliber. An M2 would just have you spraying rounds into the sky not knowing what your backstop is. We still have M2 non-A1s and took those on our last deployment. All the other companies in the battalion had mostly A1s and used it as an opportunity to get rid of the non-converted guns.
@@pkt1213 huh, didn't realize that there were any non-converted M2s left! As for smart rounds, the smallest I've seen the P3 or Ahead rounds is 30mm. They were designed for 35mm, and occasionally show up bigger.
I remember when that was developed about 2 decades ago. Price tag was slated to be around $10-12k if memory serves. The M82 was under $8k back then too. Disappointing part of the M82 is it needs to be stored disassembled or the barrel springs could weaken. Or so I've been told.
@@masterpythonit absolutely is past a given force. Steel is great cos it wont fatigue at all under a certain level of cyclic load but I'm guessing the M82 is big and mean enough for the compression to gradually weaken it even with the minor changes from temperature etc
The request for this weapon comes after a few confirmed snipes of pilots hovering just off the ground. The ability to punch through armored glass sparked the question of if that could become a common action if the reasonable elevation of fire was higher.
Just from the thumbnail that looks like something you'd see in a cod game that developers made up by looking at a picture of a barret and an rpg and mashing them together
I do like guns and, I came here out of curiosity about Red Hood's anti-material rifle, from the mobile Gatcha game Nikke. Yoko Littner, from Gurran Lagan also has a similar firearm.
With the Whiteclaw ‘penetration test’ shot I couldn’t help but think- “what has more fluid ounces- the narrow can or the massive brass shotglass flying at the camera?”
@@Bazerk101 I know it's a bit far fetch because "____ Logic" is usually ubsurd and lacking common sense, but you cant deny military be do like to streamline that way. "Too much Liberator? Give it to the Philippine Constubulary. Still too much? Dump it in the sea lmao"
Bullpups usually have shitty triggers. They don't always, though. Geissele makes a trigger for the tavor which is pretty good and rat worx makes a trigger sear which makes the aug trigger pretty good.
Kel-Tek has cornered the market on best bullpup triggers because the transfer bar linkage is hooked to the hammer in back and the sear in front. Makes for a crisp trigger break if not a little heavy. My RFB is about 7 to 8 pounds.
I don't know the EM2 workings beyond it "being the same as the FG-42", but there shouldn't be any bullpup trigger feel to it. The fire-control in the FG latches onto the op-rod in the same way that on an open-bolt gun it would latch onto the bolt (it isn't hammer-fired). That op-rod runs basically the length of the gun.
But it’s always going to be inferior to a conventional rifle set up trigger for the same quality. A top end bullpup trigger is worse than a top end conventional and standard bullpup is worse than standard conventional
My father, RIP, taught many people over the years the love the gun shooting... Commonly the first step he took was to give the person a 1 Gal Milk Jug Container and tell them to physically tear it apart - which is impossible for most people! The had them shout at it! Third set was to fill the bottle with water and he had them fire one round at about 10ft away... Which he used to show the damaging effect that one round can have - "That's what you could do to a person and being careful is how you prevent it"! Seeing the x3 2Litters lined up... I can't help but remember the many times over the many years of him using that technique!

Naw, they prob saw it elsewhere, don't think the devs watch it but I was pleasantly suprised to see it in-game
The triggers are what turn me away from bullpups. Once you start running lighter triggers it really sucks to go backwards.
I wish I could get my hands on a Walther WA2000, or a clone of one
I don't see much practical application for bullpups at all. If you're that worried about mobility, you are likely in a situation where longer reloads can be a major issue. It would basically have to be something that either uses large drum mags or belts, and I'm not sure that would offer any real benefit anyway.
@@internetcatfish the point of bullpups (imo) is to bring larger calibers into more compact packages. Makes toting things like this around more plausible.
Or use explosive bullets and target observation drones 🙂
It’s just missing a bipod.
I never realized these never went into production. Seems like something that would a useful platform for an anti drone round.
we already have shoulder fired .50 bmgs that do that
Uhhhh ever hear of a shotgun?
At the military level, they have M2A1s on every single vehicle in the US military.
At the personal level, I'd rather use a shotgun.
I don't think springs weakening from being compressed for too long is real. Steel cant tell time.
@@masterpython that was the caution I was given 20yrs ago. Just relaying. Never owned one myself. Didn't like the recoil operation. Kicked too hard.
@@OldCurmudgeon3DP I have heard that about mag springs and people saying to unload your mags at night or leaving a round out if you store them.
Might just be the legal team trying watch out for liability sake
@@masterpythonit absolutely is past a given force. Steel is great cos it wont fatigue at all under a certain level of cyclic load but I'm guessing the M82 is big and mean enough for the compression to gradually weaken it even with the minor changes from temperature etc
This is why we want you as the head of the ATF
The request for this weapon comes after a few confirmed snipes of pilots hovering just off the ground. The ability to punch through armored glass sparked the question of if that could become a common action if the reasonable elevation of fire was higher.
Just from the thumbnail that looks like something you'd see in a cod game that developers made up by looking at a picture of a barret and an rpg and mashing them together
The Atlas 42MM
I wish there was a COD type game with EXCLUSIVELY wacky prototypes and legendary guns
Funnily enough, I first saw this gun with Mr. Barret himself wielding it and had the exact thought, only to realize the photo was not fake
Each .50 BMG comes with an automatically deploying plasma muzzle shield to protect you from rain, leaves, Pepsi...
Little known fact
I do like guns and, I came here out of curiosity about Red Hood's anti-material rifle, from the mobile Gatcha game Nikke. Yoko Littner, from Gurran Lagan also has a similar firearm.
yo I was looking for another Red Hood enjoyer ! Now I highly appreciate that detail about her, such a nice weapon.
1:55 Props to camera guy for taking that 50 BMG blasts straight out of muzzle brake.
When you said “we are gonna see some unique shit never before seen on UA-cam” you meant it. This is the quality content I subscribe for
For sure !!!
Us guys that work for Barrett don’t even get to see the 82A2 very often, that’s badass man.
its essentially an shoulder fired autocannon chambered in 50 bmg
With the Whiteclaw ‘penetration test’ shot I couldn’t help but think- “what has more fluid ounces- the narrow can or the massive brass shotglass flying at the camera?”
According to IMFDB for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, this was Kojima’s favorite in-game weapon.
Love that game, absolutely love it
I love how Barrett is like “We have too many pistol grips, put it on backwards as a foregrip!” It’s definitely military logic lol.
Military logic?
There is an adoption program from everyone replacing their standard pistol grips with aftermarket ones.
Hungarian AKs be like:
@@Bazerk101 I know it's a bit far fetch because "____ Logic" is usually ubsurd and lacking common sense, but you cant deny military be do like to streamline that way.
"Too much Liberator? Give it to the Philippine Constubulary. Still too much? Dump it in the sea lmao"
That is a handy piece of kit when the robots attack
You mean the Automatons, right?
You mean raptures right????
You mean Metal Gear???
A top end bullpup trigger is worse than a top end conventional and standard bullpup is worse than standard conventional
i want one, its literally the best gun ever.
The fact that he's holding it like a rocket launcher is what makes it so cool
how else would you hold it?
My father, RIP, taught many people over the years the love the gun shooting... Commonly the first step he took was to give the person a 1 Gal Milk Jug Container and tell them to physically tear it apart - which is impossible for most people! The had them shout at it! Third set was to fill the bottle with water and he had them fire one round at about 10ft away... Which he used to show the damaging effect that one round can have - "That's what you could do to a person and being careful is how you prevent it"!
Seeing the x3 2Litters lined up... I can't help but remember the many times over the many years of him using that technique!
Gotta say, I’ve always loved the concept of should-fired heavy weapons that weren’t rockets and/or missile launchers, especially in video games (10mm Should Mounted Machine Gun from Fallout New Vegas comes to mind).
The Italian army had a 50cal specifically for scoot-n-shoot at helicopters, this rifle looks suspiciously like it. Minus the attached Ferrari :-D
I think you mean the Lamborghini LM02
Did it take spaghetti rounds?
Sounds cool also it have printed horse in gun parts too?
French paratroopers had Vespa mounted bazookas.
@@100nitrog us had bazooka mounted cessnas in wwii.
The way Brandon ran around with the .50 cal mounted on his shoulder is priceless
me that come here after playing nikke and looking up what gun it's based on, truly lore and real life accurate
