- Four years ago, ScruffyTurtles launched a brand new alternate universe project called the Persona 5 ACAU. Through it's unique take on beloved characters, solidly fun writing, and really awesome artwork, it's no surprise people are still enjoying it even after four years.
Today I'm taking a look at every Initial Persona that ScruffyTurtles has revealed over the years.

I love that Yoshida isn't a thief but is more of an orator and a warrior; it's faithful to his canon counterpart, both in terms of his giving public speeches, and the fact that his 'mask' as Titan doesn't cover or obscure his face, because Yoshida's whole character is him being front facing and open about who he is. And even that plays well with his persona, both because Ancient Greece was the birthplace of oration, and because Odysseus was famous more for being clever than a standard warrior.
See I kinda expected Yoshida to be given more of a Luchador mask design, since he was an ex wrestler in the lore

I believe odysseus' centaur legs are in reference to odysseus being at troy when they used the wood horse

I actually like Pythia, i always loved biblically accurate angels and i like the throne in the middle, it kinda reminds me of Norn in a way, as for seeing the wheels move in action i kinda already know how by watching the "biblically accurate angels animation" video.
I literally just noticed that the back of Pythia's chair is literally Norn!
Coming back to this video without looking up any official material, I kinda have an idea for Swans persona.
It should be Hercules.
Firstly, it parralels with Akechi's 'Robin Hood' as the most main stream character that is often potrayed as a traditional super hero but also works as an awakend persona, since he also becomes a god, so something like Herculus-Kami would be it.
But also because in the game Shido rides a giant golden lion made out of people, which reminds me of the Neminian Lion, a monster that Hercules killed and who's skin he now wears. So the symbolism of a traitor works as well, since he literally wears the skin of the people to fit in and use them as a shield.
His third semester awakening would then end on Heracles, small difference in name but it is the actual Greek name of the hero, while Hercules is the romanized version. Which would work well with the 'true name' aspect they went with in the game
I had heard of this AU before, but I was feeling too lazy to do proper research on it. It was pretty nice to hear a full explanation of it.
Not exactly related to it, but I loved that art of Futaba and Yusuke being pretty much the same as adults. (And also, Adult Futaba gives me very similar vibes to The Professor from Gundam Seed Astray.)

Also love that art where futaba is giving yusuke a commission on her OC and it both her version. What funny is that the au could just be 15-20 years later and it wouldn’t really change

The only thing I feel kinda iffy is on Futaba smoking. As, I kinda ship her with Yusuke... I have a really hard time imagining her as a smoking mom.
ScruffyTurtles quickly became one of my favorite artists, and this AU cemented it. My favorite part of it has to be the comic between Sojiro and Sadayo.
My favorite persona out of this group is absolutely Black Bart. I adore the color scheme, and the reptilian aspects of it, especially the tail and, erm, horn, are excellent. I am also a sucker for good cowboy designs, and this one takes the cake.
Yeah, the Wild West vibes are just awesome. Iwai would have a spot in my team for Black Bart alone
@@strain42 I do like the Persona 5 ACAU comic, but when I'm thinking of Takuto Maruki's code name, I was thinking "Saviour," since his desire to help everyone is the arc of Persona 5 Royal. Maybe as the Phantom Thief, his desire to help people would work out as the member, even if the white and goldnwould make him stood out in the shadows.

10:07 The arcana change is most likely because Judgement, being the second to last arcana, is a End Game arcana and in games prior to P5 it's the sign that the player is now on the true ending's end game.
Maybe. I guess I’m just used to Persona 1 where it was Eriko’s arcana and didn’t need to be treated with any fanfare.
I love scuffyturtles art, it just so beautiful.
I would like to see the au of Akane, Sophie and zenkichi. As akane being widow dealing her son that has some issue with her. Also I can see Zenkichi being into westerns(especially spaghetti westerns) as he relate to getting revenge. In fact I could him have a channel that review western stuff and iwai being into it.
I image akane in this Au whose name would be lioness.
I like the idea that ACAU Zenkichi would be REALLY young. Like 5 or so as a counterbalance to regular Zenkichi being the oldest canonical Persona user, AU Zenkichi would be the youngest

Not to mention that you could literally just have Toshiro's awaken right after Eri's train accident as opposed to several years after the fact, or have Eri be the one who joins the Thieves first with Toshiro replacing her after she's put in the hospital
I really wish there was more fan made demons/personas as art. It would be really cool to see the fandom's take on certain mythical and historical figures if they were in the games, but so far I've only found a few.
New Persona designs is absolutely the quickest and easiest way to suck me into an AU project.
I SO AGREE!!!!! We NEED to see more of this, maybe even with other franchises! Imagine RWBY characters, Holomyth, or Kingdom Hearts characters with personas..... Imagine if fans made demon interpretations of Sol Invictus, or Bennandanti, or Eostre!

It's now the 5th year and U continue to CRY the project seems abandoned. QQ I am SO into this AU I cannot even. I will pay MONEY for it, that's how much I love it.
Now this is the creativity I can respect. The individual who created this deserves a medal, a trophy, and a crown!
Hopefully someone eventually does voices (And potentially even animate.) like they did the Hiimdaisy comics
...
Also really wish future Personas would throw in optional characters to recruit from Confidants.
Like it's so easy, it's right there.
As for my favorite, Black Bart is kinda sick looking.
While not entirely what you're looking for, there is a comic dub that Scruffy did for the ACAU and he managed to get Xanthe Huynh herself to voice adult Haru!
2024 here. I like to help out into figuring out the Personas for both Masayoshi “Swan” Shit-o, I mean, Shido and Takuto “Rook” Maruki. Let’s get the easy one out of the way: If any of us played P5R, then we know that Maruki’s Personas are Azathoth, the Blind Idiot God, and Adam Kadmon, Adam’s equivalent in Gnosticism. I would like to think this would be placed in reversed. With Adam Kadmon being the awakened Persona, and Azathoth being the Trickster God as a second awakening. This would should the immense potential that is Rook.
As for Swan, we already know that the Trickster God Persona would be Samael, the Venom of God, which should signify Shido building connections with ACAU version of the Anti-Social Force, both major and minor, as a way to obtain his ambition, and “helping” his father, Goro Shido, in whatever his goals are. Samael is considered the Pride of the Seven Deadly Sins, which gave birth to the other sins. And with Goro most likely signifying God, Shido is most likely proving a point to something and trying to usurp him at the same time. So we can use the context clues for what his initial Persona would be if we think about what would be a good Persona that represents his deception.
Sorry if this took so long, by this time and age, ScruffyTurtles stopped making the ACAU.
I am definitely going to keep an eye on this. This is so awesome!

Like I said, I think there's only like the one piece of artwork for Rook, so I get he may have gone under a few radars. But yeah, definitely hope we see more some day.

I'm late but I think I know the reason on why Sae is Justice and not Judgement.
1st - In P3 onwards, Judgement was always an automatic social link. If Sae was Judgement whilst being a Party Member (if it was a game), Sae would be under utilize because her abilities would be hindered by story progress.
2nd - At the end of Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal, Sae gives up trying to a prosecutor and casting judgement on those after trying to defend Joker. She moves into a being a defense attorney, protecting one and upholding justice.
3rd - This is person speculation, but Justice also fits the Featherman idea. They are the people who protect that which is right, to bestow justice onto those whom are evil.
My favorite ac au persona is Robin Hood

So the third evolutions in the main game are basically the first persona “unmasked”
So maybe the first form of Odysseus in the ACAU should be renamed to “Nobody”
Which is the fake name Odysseus gave himself when tricking the Cyclops.
And then the last evolution could be called Odysseus

Man, Scruffy is such an amazing artist. I ADORE the rough, almost rugged-looking style he has. And he likes Gravity Rush, so that's INCREDIBLY based.
Also, I agree - Anne Bonny is the best one by far.

I want shido's first persona to be arminius (leader of the germanic tribe rome tried to take over), then become maximón (Aztec trickster god)
Maruki's persona is Adam but it has the design of star platinum.
Shidos should his lion that he has in his boss fight.
Unfortunately there hasn't been an update, so, I can only assume here.
Swan's Persona would be Loki, but, he'd have another to masquerade and pretend not to be who he is. I'm not 110% what his secon done would be buuuuut, it's safe to assume that Loki is his pick.
Rook's Persona would be Azathoth, nuff said, that's it.

About Odysseus centaur design: In Homer's Illiad, the Trojan Horse ploy is credited by non-other than Ullyses (another name for Odysseus himself).
Does that change your opinion on the Personas design?

And his bow is a bit weird in the myth.
He has it as the start of the Iliad but leaves it at home for sentimental reasons and doesn’t take it to war.
The bow reappears at the end, where Odysseys wife got tired of guys trying to kill her son, marry her and take over Itaka, while the king was still missing.
So she proposes a challenge. Where anyone that can draw Odysseuses bow and copy a famous shot he did, would marry her and become king.
Which no one can do because it is the toughest bow known to man. So no one can do it.
This is when Odysseus makes his way back but is unrecognizable due to the time that has passed since he set sail 20 years ago.
So if he claimed to be the missing king, he would have been laughed out of the room, were it not for his wife’s keen eye that allowed him to try the bow challenge himself.
Which he effortlessly pulled of because he is a badass.
The last thing he did to confirm his identity to her, is tell her the secret of their bedroom.
Which is that one can move the bed, since he made it himself and one of the legs is an actual living tree, symbolizing his and his wife’s unmoving love and marriage.
The story ends with Odysseus taking his son, that has always been seen as a softy since he didn’t kill his moms suitors, and gave him the parental guidance he always needed and murdered the guys that harassed the queen.

I like to think sojiro’s robin hood is the real robin hood and akechi created a fake version to fool the phantom thieves into trusting him
also shido could have arsene lupin because the persona of joker and akechi would be swapped with their au stand-ins maybe just named lupin because jokers persona is just named arsene

I'm not sure if he ever put out an official source on it that you can go check. I only knew about them because I was watching one of his streams when he was talking about them.
Also Mata Hari is kinda weak in that she looks less like a Persona, and more like a Stand.

That was actually my original guess. With Sojiro having Robin Hood you'd think Shido would have Arsene, but Atlus said Mephistopheles was considered for Joker's originally Persona, so giving that to Shido would be a nice reference to some of the deeper meta.
Well, you know how Shido had that whole Noah’s ark thing going on with his palace? I’d figure that he’d have either Moby Dick or Noah as his persona

As for Shido I think Scruffy once said something like “His Persona is really obvious if you think about it” so I wonder if maybe it is gonna be Arsene as a balance to Sojiro having Robin Hood
I can see shido being a wild card user have his fake persona be arsene to parallel akechi and joker. But choose James Moriarty for not only be a Sherlock Holmes villain but also I think that's how shido would see himself.

WE KINDA ALREADY HAVE A PERSONA FOR MARUKI RIGHT????? I think we need more eldritch personas and Azathoth is perfect for him.
ALSO Tentacle H3nta1 Jokes ABOUND. HE HAS THE H3nta1 PROTAGONIST HAIRCUT, HE GOT THE TENTACLES, HE'S... Kinda evil? Perfect Persona for him in my book will be Azathoth or perhaps to represent something more controlled than the Chaos Azathoth represents you could go with Hastur AKA The King in Yellow, one of the few eldritch entities which seems to have it's sh*t together, it runs a kingdom and can technically communicate with mortals.
Real talk, I legitimately like this more than actual Persona 5. Though admittedly I’m not really a big Persona fan so take that as you will
