I always saw Robin Williams as a tormented soul, someone who had been through a lot, and many times wondered what that could have been. When he passed away, all I learned was that I was right.
What always bothered me was when something tragic would happen, and then someone jokes about it. I am not bothered by the person, but rather everyone else who suddenly thinks this jokester is a monster and focuses their own hate towards them. Clearly trying to find humor out of a tragedy is a coping mechanism, and now they have to deal with all the additional social backlash on top of that!

Wow...Talk about a tragic childhood. No wonder Donkey’s such a clingy chatterbox. He never got a chance to just be himself or have a real friend who didn’t use & abuse him as a foal. Luckily, he finally found someone who truly loved him for who he was along with his (many) quirks. Although often annoyed, Shrek appreciates Donkey’s friendship because they were both outcasts in a “picturesque” world that had their “place” written down, one that they decided not to follow. Really glad Donkey found his own happily ever after.

It was hinted that whomever drinks the potion would get a happily ever after with their true love. Shrek and Fiona turned into humans because of the current situation, Donkey into a horse because he'd always wanted to be that tall, charming equine (probably remembering his unicorn relatives) and his true love Dragon wanted a full family thus we get the donkey-dragon hybrids (I know they're call dronkies or whatever but to me they will be Jersey Devils). but because they were already laid, thus living entities of their own separate from Dragon, they couldn't be poof away.
In a sense Donkey basically fathered the first artificially created hybrid species by cheating a magic spell.

    • @lemurlover7975
      @lemurlover7975 4 роки тому +3

Ok here’s a fake biological fiction based answer. Reptiles can lay unfertilized eggs and have them hatch. For example the whip tail lizard species is only made up of females because all the males died as the species was going extinct but the females continued laying eggs and hatching more females. When reptiles lay unfertilized eggs, the babies that hatch are always are female. So let’s say dragon lay a bunch of unfertilized eggs that could have hatched on their own to be a bunch of female dragons. Now egg shells are not solid. Whether they are leathery like reptile eggs or hard like bird eggs, water and moisture can get into eggs. If eggs get too wet , the babies inside can actually die. Which is why the parent has to sit on the eggs, keeping them warm and dry until they are hatched. Now for the fiction part: So what if Donkey came along and ejaculated on the eggs, maybe his sperm went through the egg shell to fertilize the eggs making it possible for them to be both male and donkey-dragon hybrids. This would be a type of external fertilization. Fish do external fertilization. When fish go to spawning grounds, the males and the females do a sort of mating dance where they run each other’s bodies and then they squirt out eggs and sperms at the same time in the same location in the water, the eggs and sperms meet, and the eggs get fertilized and fall to the river bottom where they eventually hatch and form fry (the term used for baby fish). So I think that they could have used external fertilization, like fish do. :) seems like internal fertilization like most mammals and reptiles actually use would kind of be impossible for them. Or they could have fertilizated the eggs using internal fertilization like salamanders do, which involves the male salamander doing a dance and then laying a package of his sperm on the ground. If the female likes his dance, she goes over to the package of sperm and puts it inside of herself using her legs which then fertilized her eggs internally, and she lays them after they have been fertilized:)yay wildlife biology :)

It’s possible that the reason the witches were able to alter him in the way suggested in this video is because Donkey’s father was one of the transformed boys from Pinocchio. And if unicorns can talk in Shrek, it could be that the unicorn heritage came from his mother’s side. He does indicate that his mother can speak as well.

Ehy Wotso, can you do a video about how Shrek never borning led to the alternate reality we see in the fourth movie?
I mean, it'd be interesting to find an explanation as to why Puss became fat or as to why the Muffin Man now organizes gladiator fights, as well as answering questions like where did characters like the Fairy Godmother and Lord Farquaad go?
My personal theory is that it's not just the disappearance of Shrek that led to that future, but also the fact that Rumpelstiltskin retains his memories, inclining him to hate all the ogres or to ruin Shrek's old friends' lifes somehow. But I'd like to hear your ideas in a video too.

Actually I think I got the answer for you in which fairy tale Donkey has to have come from.
The "Town Musicians of Bremen" (German: Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten) is a popular German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm and published in Grimms' Fairy Tales in 1819 (KHM 27).[1]
It tells the story of four aging domestic animals, who after a lifetime of hard work are neglected and mistreated by their former masters. Eventually, they decide to run away and become town musicians in the city of Bremen. Contrary to the story's title the characters never arrive in Bremen, as they succeed in tricking and scaring off a band of robbers, capturing their spoils, and moving into their house. The Town Musicians of Bremen is a story of Aarne-Thompson Type 130 ("Outcast animals find a new home").[1]
The Brothers Grimm first published this tale in the second edition of Kinder- und Hausmärchen in 1819, based on the account of the German storyteller Dorothea Viehmann (1755-1815).[1]
In the story, a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster (or hen), all past their prime years in life and usefulness on their respective farms, were soon to be discarded or mistreated by their masters. One by one, they leave their homes and set out together. They decide to go to Bremen, known for its freedom, to live without owners and become musicians there ("Something better than death we can find anywhere").
On the way to Bremen, they see a lighted cottage; they look inside and see four robbers enjoying their ill-gotten gains. Standing on each other's backs, they decide to scare the robbers away by making a din; the men run for their lives, not knowing what the strange sound is. The animals take possession of the house, eat a good meal, and settle in for the evening.
Later that night, the robbers return and send one of their members in to investigate. He sees the Cat's eyes shining in the darkness and the robber thinks he is seeing the coals of the fire. He reaches over to light his candle. Things happen in quick succession; the Cat scratches his face with her claws, the Dog bites him on the leg, the Donkey kicks him with his hooves, and the Rooster crows and chases him out the door, screaming. He tells his companions that he was beset by a horrible witch who had scratched him with her long fingernails (the Cat), a man who has a knife (the Dog), a black monster who had hit him with a club (the Donkey), and worst of all, the judge who had screamed from the rooftop (the Rooster). The robbers abandon the cottage to the strange creatures who have taken it, where the animals live happily for the rest of their days.
In the original version of this story, which dates from the twelfth century, the robbers are a bear, a lion, and a wolf, all animals featured in heraldric devices. When the donkey and his friends arrive in Bremen, the townsfolk applaud them for having rid the district of the terrible beasts. An alternate version involves the animals' master(s) being deprived of his livelihood (because the thieves stole his money and/or destroyed his farm or mill) and having to send his animals away, unable to take care of them any further. After the animals dispatch the thieves, they take the ill-gotten gains back to their master so he can rebuild. Other versions involve at least one wild, non-livestock animal, such as a lizard, helping the domestic animals out in dispatching the thieves.[2]
So I'm pretty sure that's where Donkey fits into fairy tales. I've thought of that since the first movie came out.

    • @Zeder95
      @Zeder95 2 роки тому +2

I also thought that before that Donkey could be from the Bremen town musicians. It would explain why he sings so much in the movies (for which there isn't really given any other explanation). Although we never see the other animals from the town musicians, but maybe they just disbanded.
And as someone who actually lives near the city of Bremen in Germany where the fairytale originates from, it feels kind of cool to have a fairytale from a local nearby city featured in an internationally successfull american franchise. Same with the pied piper featured in the fourth movie, which also originates from the town Hameln which is in the same area of Germany as Bremen as well.

I think Donkey could be Pinocchio's friend (Lampwick), the one he couldn't save.
There's a theory that Donkey could be from Pinocchio, as one of the donkey-boys from Pleasure Island, just all grown up:
Donkey doesn’t come from any commonly-known story. “Pinocchio” is the only fairytale that features talking donkeys, so it would give our Donkey a plausible backstory.
Since Donkey and Pinocchio are both getting turned in during the same scene, this means they exist in the same world. (More evidence to support the first point.)
Donkey makes a comment in “Shrek the Third” about having haunting flashbacks of swirlies and wedgies. (Maybe he was a real boy at one point in his life?)
In the same film, when Puss and Donkey switch bodies, Puss can’t seem to stop hee-hawing. Donkey then explains “You’ll learn to control that.” This scene resembles a part in Pinocchio where our puppet pal begins laughing so much, he begins to hee-haw.

wow when all the pieces are put together throughout the films we really do see Donkey's back story makes sense I do think that the witches giving him a voice is a big thing setting him apart from his family of donkeys........ hang on unicorns are magical creatures so would that mean they could talk. so maybe some of the donkey offspring inherited voices and in shark the 3rd he transforms into a white stallion which is pretty close to a unicorn.......mind blown

Awesome video!!! I defenently respect your opinion :) my opinion is that Donkey was a Plesure Island Donkey, as he did state he did wear clothes during the scene in the 3rd movie when they were at the school, and he looks alot like the donkeys from Plesure Island, so in my opinion Donkey was a Plesure Island Donkey :) and seeing the good nature in Donkey, once he escaped, he might of tried to tell everyone about the Plesure Island sceam, but since there were plenty of other animals in that world that can talk, nobody would believe him :,( speaking of Pinocchio, there is a cat sidekick to the fox and Figaro the cat Gepeto has, and one cat is sentient and one is not? Which is a question that I just got, why are some cats sentient in the Pinocchio world and others not?

Checks out... Except with the fact he comes from a long line of talking Donkeys. But maybe not all of them get that trait? And the Witches took a special interest because they knew his background? That would round out the theory a bit.

I think one possible fairytale Donkey could come from is the Bremen town musicians. It is a fairytale from the brothers Grimm, and it would explain why Donkey likes to sing so much.
I know this fairytale because I actually live near the city of Bremen in Germany in which it is set. It is about four animals (a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster) wanting to become town musicians and they are famously portrayed as standing on top of each others back. Although we never see the other three animals in the Shrek movies, it would actually be a good explanation to why Donkey is so musical and sings so much, since there isn't really any other explanation for it.
The fairytale of the pied piper which was featured in the fourth Shrek movie actually originates from the town of Hameln in Germany which is close to Bremen as well. As a german this was quite cool to see a fairytale from a close local town featured in an internationally successful american franchise.

It's quite the theory towards Donkey's past.
While it's pretty informative, I wouldn't find Swamp Talk a reliable source as it's got a ton of inconsistent continuity and how it shows a majority of deceased villains still alive.
And for Donkey being once a human, it's intriguing yet far-fetched. And a witch turning him into a donkey, keep in mind that was an original concept that never materialized in the actual movie or canon.
Basically, I wouldn't be surprised if that old lady was Old MacDonald's wife, is MacDonald even had one in the actual nursery rhyme.
Finally, if I were to theorize his origin, I'd follow the details in the main movies and specials that are connected to the main canon.
