I find your channel very relaxing to watch. You have a certain calmness about you the world really needs in these hectic times. And I love the german backroads. Two thumbs up for those things haha.
I bought a F900R a month ago partly because of your review of it. Mine is still pending for production. I guess ill have to be patient.
Mit freundlichen gruessen aus den Niederlanden. Und geniess dein neues motorrad!!!

I am young brave stupid and inmature but thankful with life because mu first bike was a DualPurpose generic chinese crap Alessia Risky 200cc but as soon I learned to ryde I notice my crapy bike was better than naked, sport, custom, cafe racers by the simply reazon 21" 18" and the 30cm from skidplate to the floor (I am shorty 1.70mts) so as a daily bike it performs very well on the stops and bumps where my fellow ryders stop or low speed I can mantain my own also in rain days everything was easy and the plus I became in a tremendous pilot by the simple reazon the bike came with segment bite wheels like enduro or motocross bikes so with that thiny surface of contact with the concrete and the oiled floors of Mexico City I became a very sharped ryder well 4 years have past since that first ride and right now I know the best bike ever made is a BMW but no the one you are thinking GS is a joke(In that case better a Multistrada or Adventure R) the real deal to me is the RT1250 and may you say why? There's no off road capacity is a heavy bike dosen't fit in urban traffic well as Bruce have sayed *our needs and interests change as we get older* and that is the point yes I only have 25 years old but already have understand that comfort safty and long range capacity are the esence of ryde a bike and to be honest even when my country haven't such great autobhans or nice streets to be honest the BMW can with all so right know in my mind is to have a brand new generic chinese dual purpose bike as a commuter and have the RT12T0 as a weekend and long trips bike or even better as only one bike I was on BMW dealership yesterday and ryde the F900R K1600 Grand America and RT1250 and I only can say wow RT is the perfect balance between HP, Torque, Weight and Range also a lot of luggage(yes is better than Grand America because is 85kg lighter have 4 cylinders less, 140km more of range and cost 35%less) so I love dual purpose but GT is the real deal next week I'll head to dealership to pick up my own RT1250 wirh all the aftermarket personalitation gadgets and accesories BMW offer

What a happy day for you and thank you for sharing. You may recall that I own the Tracer 900GT but i can fully understand why you went for this BMW. As a BMW car fanboy, I think it would look great in my garage. But as I said before, the CP3 makes up for all the quirks of the Yamaha.
BMW have themselves a winner here and I suspect it may just become their best seller shortly.
I look forward to watching your future videos on this bike.
Thanks from the UK and stay safe.

I really feel you with your decision and i think it is a prove of a solid character that you step away from that beast. some might disagree and they always want more, but the truth is you better get what you need right now and fits your circumstances.
there is nothing wrong changing to a more settled down bike. I mean there will be times you run wild and you longing for more power and something challenging, but in the end finding the middle road to all of that is the goal you got to aim for. it really seems that you hit the mark right there and iam very happy for you - stay safe on your new bike.

Nice video. I've been thinking of upgrading my MT-07 to a Tracer 900 but now with this bike out, it's definitely tempting me. Tracer 900 has quite a few downsides I've noted such as small bags, small load capacity, small display, passenger pegs too close to rider pegs... And now the F900XR seems to have all these done right, although with a bit higher price tag.

The tracer 900 may feel like it has less torque than the -07 remember the twin has bigger pistons despite the capacity increase. There will be more torque once up in the higher revs the -09 is a very different engine vs the -07

Nice choice, I’ve had a number of R1200GS for years but just recently dropped down to a F750GS although with the current health situation not really had a chance to get out. On the issue of the tyres, I’ve been riding for forty plus years, in the past tyre manufacturers used a waxy coating to make it easier to get the tyres out of the mould, this left a residue on the tyres that needed to be “scrubbed off.” As bikers we often talk about scrubbing in new tyres but that process stopped many years ago and we really don’t need to carry on that practice. Enjoy your vids look forward to the next 👍

Residue coatings are a thing of the past but that is not why tire manufactures still recommend a "scrub" period of 50 to 100 miles. Watch the video below from Motorcyclist Magazine and they will tell you all the reason why you need to do so. 👍👍

      Hi Paul,
Two different bikes with two totally different personalities. The 1000 is a sport bike (from S1000RR) turned into a sport/touring bike and it feels like it, like a dog on leash always pulling, barking, running...etc. The 900 is just the opposite of that, it was designed from the start to be a sport/tour 50/50, the 1000 is more like 80/20 with the 80 being serious sport...and the motor, 160hp, just does not work in a sport/tour bike (imho) ...and it's buzzy at certain RPM's. Don't get me wrong about the motor, I love it in the S1000RR and S1000R, two great bikes! The 900 is smooth all the way through the rev range, well it gets buzzy at the top end but any bike will for that matter. But if you want a sport/tour with a heavy lean towards sport, get the 1000XR, if not then get the 900XR.
So I took my own advice and got the 900XR 😁.
If I were you, take them both out and see what personality fits you, that is the best thing to do. 👍
      Ride safe,
      Scott

I have been thinking of trading mine(1290 Super Duke R) in for something lighter, maybe a 790 Duke. I can't quite bring myself to do it. Every time I take it out, and roll on the throttle I am hooked all over again. Thing is, as you get older, power isn't the issue, the weight is. I just am not a strong as I once was. Moving a heavy bike around the garage or worrying about having to pick it up if it tips over has me thinking at my stage of life the bike needs to be lighter.
As far as an everyday rider, I have never owned a bike with a fairing. The bike I commuted on before I retired was a Speed Triple. 120 mile round trip to and from Seattle. I put a lot of miles on that bike along with several others over the years. I think the windshield is maybe what you are used to.
One reason I bought the Super Duke was actually comfort. The extra seat to peg distance makes a difference for my old knees. There is about an inch more there than on the Triumph.
So when my Super Duke goes it will be for a bike at least 50 pounds lighter, but hopefully enough power and performance to keep me happy.

For those with Super Dukes. You can relax them. You have a position to move your bars back on the triple. For weekend rides/ highway riding get a small windscreen. Also for the trip, SW Motech makes saddle, tail, and tank bags. Might as well do heated grips as well. As far as smoothing the power now and again? Rain mode. This bike can do it all.

A lot of times in life we pick girl friends based on our current stage in life (is she fun, exciting, a blast to be with or she is my life long companion that I want to share every moment with for the rest of my life), the same is often true with motorcycles. 😁👍

Congratulations on the new Bike! Superb review and content as always - easily the most enjoyable and informative on the net. Feels like having a good friend having a chat and offering comments about their perceptions. Very interested how you get on with it in the future, as this bike is one of three I'm considering as a returning rider; the others being the GS/GSA or the RT.
The GS/GSA are very tall given their off road suspension/ride height compromises; but unpaved roads are all I would do as regards 'off road" which seems a waste of their abilities and at a price of weight and bulk, and the RT lacks a little versatility and would be very expensive to inadvertently drop with all the plastic fairing parts.
As an all rounder, and with the latest tech, the F900XR looks to be a superb choice. And if it could handle the odd unexpected/unplanned unpaved road on a longer trip, it might just be the right bike for me.
Thanks again for your superb content and presentation - greatly appreciated and enjoyed!

I really wanted to love F900XR, went to test drive to local BMW dealer. Sales guy asked for what reason I would like to have motorbike - I told him that for weekend rides on mountain roads and couple trips in a season. He told me - I would not like it to much and should try r1250r after. After testing F900XR I can say: its amazing bike, everything works. If you look for daily commuter - perfect, it doesn't provoke you, its smooth and pulls well. Has all bells and whistles you can imagine on the bike, but there is always big BUT....... The engine doesn't make you lough, it might you make smile a bit but it doesn't have that poke. In some way I would say it is a bit boring. Engine / exhaust sounds did not impress me much. Actually when you ride you don't hear exhaust - you hear air intake and metallic sound from engine. Tall windscreen was not working for me nor in low nor in tall positions. So after all I was a bit disappointed - maybe I wanted to much from one bike, I just didnt get that connection to bike. I want bike be exiting. Then I tried R1250R.... One day later I bought 2016 R1200R full speck for less than a half price of F900XR. Love everything about it and it just feels more bike than F900XR. It pulls like 16 year old who first time found free porn online:) It has character, it make me laugh every time I twist throttle, at the same time can drive smooth. it has all as F900XR has except LCD Screen. Which is very nice, but I when you ride last place you need to concentrate is dashboard. Just pity that we on lock down now and no riding :(

@@chrishart8548 GS keep their value like gold :) even air cooled one with decent milage cost around half of new one. And r1200r I think is undervalued and in a shadow of GS. It has same engine, most of frame, all electronics of big brother, and second hand market price is very approachable, while price drop stops after 3 ears as well. And I prefer roadster versus tourer as don't commute daily. Another reason why I didn't pull trigger on F900XR was that looking into other F family models, in first 3 years you loose around 50% of value. Maybe in 3 years will look again at F900XR when will be time to change R1200R.

Man I am half way through the video and you still haven’t started to say why! At this stage I’m thinking ‘get to the point! Just some feedback for you. I am interested in what the video is titled but please don’t waste my time or you lose a viewer and thumb up. We all hate click bait, in the end this wasn’t that but I did not click on this video for a BMW review as that was not the title. When you finally got to it, your thoughts made sense. As someone who is considering a super duke learning why someone got rid of theirs is great as I can learn a lesson potentially or at least be aware of their shortcomings. So thanks for that. I guess the KTM GT wasn’t an option for a reason?

Two different bikes with two different purposes. You have to ride them both to understand just how different they are from each other. Both are good bikes and do what they do very well. It's really very simple, if you have less money get the Kawai, if you have more money get the BMW. Simple 😁👍

  • @steve5825
    @steve5825 2 роки тому

Nice review. Things that strike me are common to a lot of bike manufacturers, you buy the bike and then ‘oh you want a comfortable seat? That’ll be $$$/£££ more. You’re shorter in the leg, ‘we want more $$$/£££ for a lower seat’ . On the subject of the quick shifter, I have an S1000XR and a Speed Triple and in my experience the Triumph has the better quick shifter but both are good. I’ve also owned the Super Duke R and while it was fun, it was crazy fun - colossal power in a light bike but so much that it was a bit pointless, also it was never a bike I looked at and thought it was great looking.
The instrument display on this bike is the best by a long shot, Triumph Speed Triple second. I am considering this bike for my next, I just want convincing that it is long term reliable and that the wind protection is good.

What problems and issues with soft cases? I find soft cases to have a lot more advantages than cons compared to hard cases. They are less costly, lighter, they crumble when not full, so you don't have to constantly drive around with bulky butt ugly boxes in the back, they don't brake as easily (oh yeah hard cases look so tough and sturdy but when you drop the bike or go down, they brake easier than soft ones). The only real benefit of hard cases that I can see is theft protection.

I'm 52 years old, +40 years on a saddle, commuting, travelling, touring, whatever… But the more I'm getting older, the less I'm attracted with touring, "adventure", travel oriented modern bikes even if I was tempted a little by 1290SD-GT.... Commuting with my "old" 2006 990SD & travelling with my 2016 1290SDR (with my wife, yes) was never a problem, ad contrario, a every moment delight… But I guess the best bike is the one that's making you feel good on it…. Congratulations on your new bike, looks really nice! Perhaps the ultimate rational bike: all the power, quality, practicality, features, handling, wind protection, ... that one could need (or claim to need). And a (very) good price. However while I 100% see why you'd get this over a Tracer 900 (which has always seemed like an exercise in 'upgrading' the MT-09 to a tourer but with flaws), I wonder if you considered the Multistrada 950S? Like for like it is around 3.000 EUR dearer, but to me that seems worth it. It is a good sum of (additional) money though (of course)...

Nice bike, congrats. Interesting vid too. Totally understand why you did it. Makes perfect sense, less is more. The KTM"s a great bike but after a while it seems too much of everything. You can use most of this bike most of the time & it's so much more gratifying to ride a smaller/less powerful bike to it's potential as opposed to barely scratching the surface of a powerful bike. Plus you get a MUCH better warranty with BMW too.
