    what a cool relaxed review.
    it's so refreshing to see stuff like this because from watching reviews from others is always full of drama and bullshit to get their viewing number up - they lose track of reality imo.

    Nice job. After watching your video I'm giving the KTM super duke another look. I hear nothing but great things about the super duke. The looks of the SD is probably the biggest sticking point for me. Keep up the great work.

      Been riding nothing but Kawasaki's best big bore street bikes since 1980. Getting up their in age also being big guy I just purchased 2020 1290 R, what a machine, surprisingly it don't vibrate like a typical V-twin like Ducati 1199. Don't hesitate it's a blast, like he said. Yes I could of our purchased new Tuono the KTM is much more better for me except wind blast Tuono was better there.

    I just test rode the 2019 Superduke 1290R last saturday. As a taller guy it was heaven! Im not a fast rider nor do I want to go super fast on the road and do wheelies. But I still want that bike so bad! I also test rode the new 790 Duke. That bike makes much more sense for me to own but it just couldn't produce the same excitement when riding.
    Right now I'm trying to convince myself why I need to save up for a +170hp bike that on paper makes no sense at all when you consider total ownership cost (maintenance, insurance etc)... :)

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  5 років тому +3

      Ahh...you get it. The SDR makes no sense what-so-ever, and that is why it is soooo much fun. The other super nakeds are fun but not eye-popping, pulling arms out of shoulder sockets, crazy fun, like the SDR. That is the soul purpose of the SDR. And to guys that understand this....it's just heaven! Some things in life make no sense at all and it is these things that we do as human beings that make us human.

      Curios to know what you decided. I own a 2019 790 Duke and it is amazing bike, but now wanna trade it for a 2016 SDR Special Edition. The tall seat and seating position makes it really hard to say "NO" to that bike so I will get it. I am 184cm tall or 6'.

      Hi Andreas,
      Yes I would. I still love the brutality, un-forgiveness, it's lack of respect for any thing or any one. It has nothing to prove! But after 4 years on the "Beast" and I'm getting older and I ride all year round with it, I think my next bike will have some wind protection and hand guards with heated grips. But after riding 80+ bikes for my channel in the last two years, this is the most "fun" bike I've ever been on...still today. Now that's saying a lot. I think I'll just keep it for summer day riding and get a second bike for cold weather/trip riding 😁

    • @murmler
      @murmler 5 років тому

      Thx for answering, Scott. Well, actually I should by a GS cause I am 54 😖 but I still feel young enough for some roughness. Can't wait to test the 'gentle Beast' and how it feels in comparison to the BMW S1000 XR I already tested.

Past experience includes dirt bikes, street, 3 wheelers, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, etc...I like to go fast and lean, but not sport bike lean or fast...reactions not being what they were. Hi JGK, you are the target customer of the Super Naked group...and me too...that's why I have one from the super naked group. There are 4 bikes in the group but I like to extend the group to 6. Here they are: KTM 1290 SDR, Aprilia Tuono, BMW S1000R, Yamaha MT-10, extended to: Ducati Monster 1200 & Triumph Speed Triple. Also one can put the Honda CB1000R in that group too. Now if you want more comfort/wind protection with performance then the KTM 1290 GT comes to mind, in fact that will be my next bike, it's just a matter of when my bank account will allow it. I've done reviews on all but the Tuono and Monster, so check them out and welcome back to the addiction!

    Very nice motorbike! In my opinion is 5.000 kms with one set of tyres absolutely normal for every bike with more than 100 hp and so much ccm. I think, that other owners of this Duke only need max 3.000 kms to destroy the back-tyre.
    But what you also need for your Duke is a pretty short part for the license-plate ;o)

    I have an SC project on my 790 and I will trade it for a 2016 SD Special Edition. Love the SC project, I just hope the Akra will be at least equal coming from the V-twin. At 4:08 your talking about the bike being civilized, are you talking street mode or Sport? Great video, thank you!!!

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 роки тому

      Thank you.
      There I was talking about a software update (ECU) that helps it run a little smoother and more efficiently. I could really tell the difference, it felt more aggressive yet better...not sure of all the details that this "update" did, just know it was better. The 2016 model that you are buying, just ask if it's been to a KTM dealer that has put in the updated software and if not then it is worth getting it done, it transforms the bike into more of a beast yet at the same time easier to control. Don't know if that makes sense...LOL.
      Ride safe,
      Scott
      P.S. I like the sound of the SC Project better than the Akra on the SDR :) But that is just a matter of taste.

      Around 175 km, but that is really track day aggressive.

    • @MrTejnat57
      @MrTejnat57 5 років тому

      @@NothingToProve thats what im looking for a track day aggressive because im planning to join in a 600 km endurance race i am looking for a bike that has a potentential to win. The bike should have a long fuel range because less fuel stops the better and the bike should be comfortable and very fast. Im choosing between the ktm GT and the BMW XR. which bike you think has the advantage?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  5 років тому +1

      Interesting...taking those two bikes on the track but they can do it and do it very well. Fuel economy is better on the GT and the GT has a bigger tank. 23L vs. 20L, those extra 3 liters and better fuel economy might give you an extra 2 laps per tank. But the chassis on the XR comes from the S1000RR, so it's faster on the track but you should be able to tweak the GT almost to the point of keeping up with the XR on the track. The weights are the same so it really comes down to gas tank size and torque (GT) vs. hp (XR)...just depends on how you prefer the power to be delivered. Good luck and have fun!

    • @MrTejnat57
      @MrTejnat57 5 років тому

      @@NothingToProve and from the insights you gave above can I please ask what's your pick between the two bikes that you think can give me an advantage for the 600 kms challenge?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  5 років тому +1

      Well, I've spent some time on both bikes and I've done track days (not with these two bikes), which leads me to this conclusion: a 600 km race is a long time to be racing on a track, even for MotoGP level racers. So fuel range and torque just might be the advantage, I think I'd try the GT. And also note the vibration in the XR handle bar might add up to problems with hands getting numb towards the end of the race, 400-600 kms into the race.

      @NothingToProve  Місяць тому

      Hello, well, I never had any problems with my 2015 SDR, put over 20k on it in 4 years and loved every minute of it. No IMU, no cornering ABS/TC/WC...etc., no TFT or any of the electronics that plague KTM today. No oil leaks, cam problems, nothing. All of those things are on gen 2 and gen 3, from 2017-2023. Supposedly they fixed all those things from 2017-2023 this year with gen4 but only time will tell. So as long as you stay with the first gen, 2014-2016, the first 3 years of the SDR, you should have no problems. I'd buy it, it's crazy unadulterated fun.

    Very good summary... For the past year I'm thinking about the 2018 Superduke on special here... I took a test ride and it feels good. I'm now on a "tuned" Yamaha MT 09.... which is just a blast to ride and best value for money as it is half the price of the Duke and has the heart of a "lion" in that fantastic torquey 3 cyl motor!. After the hour test ride on the KTM (Track & Performance packs installed) I'm sure the KTM will have a very hard time to run from my MT up to about 180 km/h. The ergonomics on the KTM is excellent. I'd say the MT 09 has a much faster (better) Quick Shifter... the Duke's felt slow and harsh. I'm set on getting a Duke but they are expensive and there is always the worry of reliability....
