It, also known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, The Deadlights and Robert Gray, is the evil entity that has plagued Derry for over a million years. Throughout the novel, It by Stephen King, we receive a trickle of information regarding the history of It, from It's inception millions of years ago in an interdimensional void known as The Macroverse, to It's arrival in Derry before the Ice Age to It's ultimate battle against the Losers Club and beyond.
In this video I'll be going over the ENTIRE (!) chronological life of Pennywise / It, doing a complete breakdown and analysis of the character, discussing what drives It, what rules bind It, and explaining the events seen in the book that never made the movie or mini-series adaptations.
This will cover the entire known history of Pennywise from the creation of It to the present. Please note that this will only analyse the ancient creature as It is are written in the books of Stephen King. I will show clips from the movies as a visual aid, but for the purposes of Horror History, the books are canon!
I'll be covering every single detail we know about It from the book including It's origin, the mythology of It, the inspiration behind Pennywise, It explained + how it operates, discussing the different forms of It with the shapeshifting ability, and even talking about a few Things You Missed in this comprehensive breakdown and analysis of the character.

About IT Chapter Two
Evil resurfaces in Derry as director Andy Muschietti reunites the Losers Club-young and adult-in a return to where it all began with “It Chapter Two.”
The film is Muschietti’s follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed and massive worldwide box office hit “IT,” which grossed over $700 million globally. Both redefining and transcending the genre, “IT” became part of the cultural zeitgeist as well as the highest-grossing horror film of all time.
Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “It Chapter Two” brings the characters-who’ve long since gone their separate ways-back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.

CZsWorld what drink do you get when you go to Taco Bell
I bet most of that time was actually reading the feckin' book lol
So you probably won’t see this but I can explain the whole miniseries in the books thing. So in the Stephen King multiverse(macroverse what ever) both our world and king himself exists within his multiverse. In fact he wrote about a car accident he had(irl) but in the book it was caused by one of the evil entities (i believe from the dark tower series) trying to kill him. It’s weird
CZsWorld I’m sad right now because you don’t upload great videos like these 3 times a week... Me very very sad

Fun fact: The giant storm that almost destroys entire Derry at the end is a throwback to a line in the novel. The mother of one of the Losers said: "If you kill a spider, it's going to rain".
So when the adult losers literally killed the biggest spider in the universe, it caused the biggest apocalyptic storm they have ever seen. I think it makes perfect sense and is a great detail.
Corporate Billionaire you are a freaking genius..
Brilliant, I never caught that!
There’s also a storm in the book though...
Damn I never thought of that, Brilliant! Bravo sir 👏🏼
1-800-Wavy Well this guy is trying to say one line in the book caused there to be a storm in the movie, but there’s literally a whole chapter on the storm in the book. The movie directors didn’t create anything new there

During the Bradley gang shootout, Pennywise was also seen leaning out of a window, 5 storey's up, but the way he was leaning out was particularly odd. He was leaning out by his knees, like someone was holding the bottom of his legs and feet. like he was Floating.
Also, with Eddie Corcoran, he gets his head ripped off (: absolutely horrifying scene
The second hand accounts of pennywise were always so much creepier than what ended up going in the movies.
And he didn't have a shadow
it’s sad, because right before he died, Eddie said to himself "get to the light and I'll be alright" and "you’re not real!" to It after it grabbed him. If only he had known how powerful his belief was., if only he had made it to the light.

30:07 one quick critique, its actually stated he killed himself because he knew It could only be stopped if all living members believed they could do it and he had doubts, so he ended his life to be careful
Is that what the book said or just the recent movie?
@@Jackson-vm6nv it's implied in all 3 versions that his death was calculated
@@PixelAtionGuitar as far as i can remember in the book that is never implied once
I think it's time for you to reread the book. I finished it recently and that is never said or implied.
The only thing the book implies about Stan, is that he is still traumatised by what happened as kids and it is affecting their attempts to have a baby.
From his wife finding it odd for Stan to take a bath at that time and him writing 'IT' on the bathroom tiles with his own blood, I think the memories resurfaced his fear of Pennywise and what happened. He simply couldn't face going through it again
In "insomnia", which also plays in Derry, there is a moment they go to a higher plain of existence, and all living things have visible and near tangible auras. There is a foul orange aura coming out of the sewer...
I've also wondered if IT was tied to Room 1408 with the bright orange light......
Stephen King’s books reference eachother often, and possibly may be in the same universe
@@Harry-ur6lg They are. Stephen King's sons books take place in the same universe as well. In N0S4A2 the antagonist visits a bar with several of Stephen King's characters in it, including Pennywise. Though all of the characters, including Pennywise, leave the bar out of fear. Sort of blasphemous, sort of funny. "My monsters are scarier than my dad's monsters."
@@flapjax1209 I just realized that's Steven kings son
To me, the scariest thing about It was that It didn’t actually EAT the flesh of children to survive. It fed solely on fear, and often only took bites out of kids because that’s what, in their minds, the monster is supposed to do.
Wouldn’t it make most sense, to eat children heads? Like brains because that’s where fear and imagination come from
I think that’s more stupid than scary though. If you want to continue to eat, then just feast on the fears let them go and allow the fear that something will always come back to get you and that the monster is actually real. They would develop a phobia which is the biggest fear of all. So random!
That's retarded. Pennywise eats kids.simply put.
@@AndSoWeLaughedAnd when they learn the monster won't kill them they don't see it as a monster anymore, and it starves.

I think the biggest disservice the It remake film did was reduce Mike's character and his family's connection to Derry and It specifically. The whole fact that Mike's father had a run in with It and tried to document weird occurrences in Derry makes perfect thematic sense when Mike later grows up to be a librarian in Derry and the one who stayed behind to keep an eye out for Pennywise. I thought overall the movie was great (scarier in several ways than the miniseries) but that change is such a waste.
I agree, giving Mikes role to Ben just literally turned him into the token black guy

yeet You’re sure missing out! It’s one of my all time favorite childhood horror flicks!
Same!!! I feel you...
And this is why Stephen King is one of the best authors. He not only writes a book, he creates universes.

Maybe the idea of IT just popped into his head which is why he had NO Inspirations to make IT
I've been doing the same for years
this guy cant stop talking about taco bell, he must be hungry as hell
How long til they start making Pennywise spin off movies following him throughout the hundreds of years before the 1950s 🤔
hopefully never

I always wanted them to adapt IT into a full length tv series for this reason. As a kid, I loved all the little snippets of history in the book
@@shinigamiinochi so apparently the 1990 miniseries was meant to be much longer and retell the whole book and be several episodes long. But that fell through.
Just discovered this channel and I wanted to say you do an amazing job explaining everything and you do a ton of research. Good job
pennywise wouldn’t survive if it were dealing with gen z

You really do fantastic work I'm sure it's not easy to carry an almost 1 hour show.
I think Stephen Kings inspiration for IT was the immense amount of drugs he was taking
Probably inspired most if not all of his stories! Lol
Drugs in a many ways leads us to see things that may be there or may not be there
He was on a LOT of coke at the time! Haha
@@thethrowawaythatstayed7055 SK dedicated a chapter with Bev getting a train ran on her, her insinuating it. If that's not drug induced idk what is.
Show the proof of him doing drugs.
“In eternity, where there is no time, nothing can grow. Nothing can become. Nothing changes. So death created time to grow the things that it would kill... and you are reborn but into the same life that you've always been born into. I mean, how many times have we had this conversation, detectives? Well, who knows? When you can't remember your lives, you can't change your lives, and that is the terrible and the secret fate of all life. You're trapped... like a nightmare you keep waking up into.”

I feel like that would have been a much better movie than remaking it was. I hated the new movies. They just weren't as scary. Something about the original pennywise was just far more frightening. I think because he looked so... Normal. Until he was gonna eat you. Idk Something about that made it even scarier than the new one who's just scary from the start
@@lolafierling2154 they were more faithful to the book
@@masonwright7700 I'm well aware. I read the book. I've read most of King's books. As much as I love him and his writing I think the book was bad. He has many amazing works but IT is just not one of them. I just found the movie far less scary than the mini series. And I think that is because the mini series was less blatant with it's horror. It wasn't as in your face. It didn't scream "hey I'm a horror movie! Don't forget yourwatching a horror movie!" About it. That's just my opinion though. I'm no movie or book critic.
The new IT makes the 80s version look like a spoof
Edit: the og one did do a good job, but to me the new looks a lot more menacing to me
Well yeah, 90’s visual/budget wise can’t compete with the now version
It’s still quality though
IT 1990 is better I think.
Bryan Mcfadden i guess
2017/2019 was easily better in horror, but 1990 had the greatest detail and it stuck to the story. A combination of the two would be phenomenal.
1990 is better

TheRedPotato180 : yes it truly is 👍🏿
I'm confused. If the Deadlights were made at the same time as the Turtle, how is its main form of sustenance the fear of creatures that didn't exist until the Turtle barfed out a universe?
couple theories i have for this but the main two are: 1. the other or whatever it's name is had some form of family tree which created other beings of equal or slightly less power than it for it to torment, or like the turtle it is able to create life in some way. it also seems that the turtle barfing out universes is very common so its easy to say our universe wasn't the first to have life that it encountered.
The "fear" is more of a seasoning than a required factor. Just like how you can eat boiled pasta as-is, but it tastes way better with some garlic butter and pepper.
@@ForeverLaxx Ok, but it's still seasoning on something that didn't exist until the Turtle got sick. If he needs sustenance what did he eat before the universe was vomited up?
@@tyrannicpuppy Who said It needs to at all?
@@ForeverLaxx The word sustenance. It's what was used in the video, so I assume the book. Sustenance is the 'maintaining of someone or something in life or existence'. So if something requires sustenance it cannot continue to survive without it.
Ya know, there's a part after the defeat of Pennywise, but before the bloodpact...
“Mr. Pennywise, I don’t feel so good.”
“Bleh, Maturin, who cares?”
“No, like, literally. My stomach-*BLEEEEUUUUURRRGGGGHHH*”
And I also came with it out coz u are also a part of universe
Mister stark I don't feel so good....
Pennywise: "ohhhmmmmmm, yum!"
Okay i might sound weird but is it just me or does pennywise look kinds like a baby while waving with the hand? Like a baby that is eating somethins that isn’t for eating and a parent comes and the baby is just like :hi big human!!!
His big forehead and eyes were supposed to look childlike, maybe that is why
Do you know my son personally?🤣

Everyone in the comments is talking about how everything in Stephen kings cinematic universe is connected, but all I can think about is how much I love his tie
A lot of people get confused with "the Turtle", otherwise known as Maturin, for being the one who helps the Loser's Club gain an unkown amount of strength in well-timed situations. However, this isn't true, as he does help Bill in showing him how to stop IT, but the one who gave the Loser's Club otherworldly power was actually Gan, who is basically God, but for the macroverse. Maturin is also one of nine guardians for the Dark Tower.
And, in one of the Dark Tower books/stories, there's another Pennwise-like clown-alien thing. (But I honestly can't remember if it was in one of the later books of the series, or the Keyhole short stories)

I wnat the novels and watch the it chapter 1 and 2
@@figment521 yes I remember too, but it was kind a cousin of Penny. It operated in reverse, instead of scare kids it made them laugh....
I think the turtle created or puked, more or less the same, the universe to trap IT inside and keep him busy here. Just a thought.
I think this fella likes Tacos, just a hunch.
