When I spoke to my mom about horror movies and brought up Michael Myers she said, "There's only one thing I remember and learned from Halloween. It's that no matter how slow you are and no matter how long it takes, as long as you have the determination you can do anything." Thanks for the inspiration of a serial killer, mom.

I prefer this concept of Michael best; the less the audience can understand him the more frightening he is as a threat. He has a clear objective (reliving the murder of his sister Judith) but despite his masked expression and blank menacing body language he demonstrates an ability to make plans, improvise and even has a morbid sense of humor at times. We never know what his motives are or what he's fully capable of. If there is anything supernatural about him, it's Michael's supernatural determination to achieve his goals, which gives him this mind-boggling endurance.

I think Ends makes it clear that it was about his status as the Boogeyman instead of a literal power that keeps him alive. It was Loomis who spread the rumor he was pure evil as a child and the whole town bought it as part of the urban legend. Over the 3 movies of the recent reboot, Laurie comes to terms with that at the end and it demystifes the status completely, though it doesn't mean it's contained and can easily spread. Similar track record with Corey. The more he embraced this idea and fear surrounding his accident in the beginning, the more "powerful" he became. Basically anybody can embody the status of Michael Myers so as long as people fear what he initially represented. And in that sense... He truly is invincible.

    • @Bzrker123

I like the way you interpret Halloween ends. But it doesn't make sense. For example the town in Ends was easily at it most peak fear of Michael. Yet he is the weakest out of all the other movies made about him. For example he got over powered by cory who is a complete weakling. I think it would be nice if your interpretation of the movie was true. But it doesn't add up compared to the writing. Halloween ends is easily the most disappointing peace of shit joke of a movie I have seen in a while.

I read on the Halloween wiki that this version of Michael has a rare condition where he cannot feel pain or his injuries. So my theory is that, since he cannot feel all the bullets, knifes, and the loss of his fingers, this doesn’t really deter his stamina. However, since in Halloween Kills we see him nursing his severed fingers, I think it’s clear that, while he doesn’t feel pain, he knows that his injures could kill him, causing him to stop the bleeding from his hand

"Dead By Daylight" explains him perfectly well. He is one of the more simpler characters and becomes motivated based on how obsessed he is with his targets.
The scariest part about him is that he actually never teleports. His presence actually causes victims to temporarily lose control of their senses causing them to forget where he actually was walking. It's very easy to lose track of a slow moving threat.
As for why the mob could not kill him. Only retired Sheriff Brackett had a killer instinct; few folks actually have it in them to kill. The mob just wanted to hit him a few times and were too afraid to let themselves get too dark. The one other citizen who also brought the gun never actually used it for practical purposes and let his fear dominate him. Myers suffered no head trauma from the beating which would have quickly ended his existence. Sheriff Brackett had his revolver cocked and was more than likely going for a head shot before the Shape stood up; Brackett on a good day could have killed the Shape.

about the bus crash: I think Laurie was only there to watch and make sure everything was okay, which is why she said at dinner that she saw him. I think that the one who caused the bus crash was Dr. Sartain. He wants to see him 'in action', see how he works, what he does. Its the same reason he brings Michael to Laurie's house at the end.

He also lied about his story to the police all because he was so obsessed about studying Michael that he felt the NEED to see him in the wild. And that transport was his only chance for that to happen bc once he got to the facility he was 100% gonna be stucc unless Michael Schofield showed up

My theory about 40 year timeline Michael is that his youth as an outcast combined with his violent tendencies leads him to kill and view his victims as playthings in order to create a childhood he was denied. He is constantly trying to recreate the only thing that ever gave him any sense of emotion in his childhood, which is murder. The head tilt is to admire his work the way a child might admire their crayon drawings or the scenarios they create with their toys.

My theory about Michael being so weak in Ends was because he received no medical treatment for all the stab wounds, bullet wounds, and blunt force trauma he received 4 years ago. Going that long without proper treatment is going to absolutely destroy anyone. On top of that, he stayed in the sewers where it’s dangerously easy to get an infection. With all those open and bleeding wounds, Michael definitely got weaker staying in such an unsanitary place.
Although Laurie’s theory about him getting stronger the more he kills was correct, that 4 year period with no treatment to wounds and minimal killing brought him down significantly.
As for Corey, I believe Michael was influencing him through supernatural means. When Corey stared into those empty and black eyes, he gave into the fear and allowed a portion of the evil within Michael to transfer to him.

And that's what made him scary, not the person on the outside, but the Evil on the inside. It's why even Laurie stated herself "Evil doesn't die, it changes Shape." Which means a new person will be chosen as a vessel of that Evil somewhere down the line, the Myers/Strode Story is over leaving a new chapter to begin, with new sets of characters.

My theory is that Michael let Corey go so that he could regain his power. Killing in anonymity could sustain him but not return him to strength. He needed a witness for the influence of the legend to restore him. Like you said, even an audience of one did the trick. So, if Michael recognized a bit of the evil resided inside Corey, he probably thought that it would bring him back. That, or he thought Corey might return to show someone else what he found. I wanna say that if the old lady in Kills survived then Michael definitely could've lived through the battle at the end of Kills. It's clear his motive was always to go home and recreate what he did as a child but Loomis and then Dr, Sartain messed that up each year. His home being destroyed is probably what kept him in the sewer but him not having the strength to kill Corey definitely helped give him a new motive and energy to kill again. He did go to patch himself up in Kills so it's clear he can be hurt and by the way Ends ended its clear he's mortal. My theory is people even when ganging up on him are afraid and never fully commit to hurting him. Every time Laurie tried in 2018 she was clearly afraid but in Ends she wasn't, she unmasked him, spoke to him and slowly killed him.

What makes The Shape so iconic to me is he is unhurried exuding an aura of pure confidence in that it isn’t if you will die but just when, he isn’t made a joke or shallow by making the stories about him because he just is no past and no future considerations he is literally existing in the moment. I have always thought the head tilt reminded me of the way a bird will look at something like “hmm” and just fly away. You will never understand what it is thinking and it will never say.
I absolutely love the new masks they tell a story though the damage and age but are still so hollow that it is unsettling. That creates pure fear in that he wouldn’t even need a weapon his presence is just powerful it triggers that pause moment where your breath catches before you can remember you are supposed to be running.
I pray to all things holy they don’t try to make a new timeline. It won’t be the same. Cory has way to much of a story to his character. There were lots of great nods to the og movies. I feel it would be freaking awesome if Jason could get a quality reboot. I feel what makes this possible for Michael and Jason but not Freddy is Freddy was about personality and dark humor where as Jason and Michael just are. They are a presence and their silence is what makes them work.

Love your in depth break downs but Michael clearly has a slight reaction to the mask when brought out by the journalist and I’m surprised you skipped/missed that.
I personally have always believed the mask gives him his supernatural abilities. Whether that is in his head, mind over matter, or actually true. Without the mask he is still a dangerous and lethal serial killer. But when he has the mask on he can sustain any attack and walk away. I felt this was made clear in Kills when he bent over and put on the mask and faced his attackers head on. He knew he couldn’t lose. I’d love to see a director take that spin to the next level in the reboot, which I believe is inevitable in the future.
Anyways, keep up the good work!

The easiest way to explain the new trilogy is to say that David Gordon Green created it based on Carpenter's original concept to bring continuity to the franchise where it began to fall off as early as the original H2.
There are interviews of John Carpenter telling how he was pushed it making a sequel by Akkad because of the gradual success of 1978's Halloween. And also how he added (sibling connection) that ruined the mystique that made the character details which he later regretted.

It couldn't have been any clearer the whole point of this new trilogy from her mouth, and even more so you're words which is basically the same thing. They intentionally use fear to their advantage. They also have their own trademark tools and like to leave a "calling card" behind. They both operate like ruthless predators too. Like MM, Batman is also often considered to be just a Boogeyman who no one really knows if he's actually real or not. Someone the kids make up stories about to scare each other. They both die all the time, but never seem to stay that way.

I am astonished by just how much blood he had in Halloween Ends. He made the floor slippery with all the blood that came out of him, and then in the crusher there was more blood in him.
Also, he somehow gave part of his power to Cori and if Cori hadn't betrayed Micheal, he'd have become the new Micheal.

Regarding why he’s weaker in Ends, I think it’s just because he’s been living in a sewer, with a mutilated hand that’s more than likely to be infected from his current living environment. Also, he’s wearing a moldy old mask and has been breathing in the mold. He’s been living like that for 4 years by that point. He’s definitely physically ill.

I don’t think that Laurie was his prime factor in escaping, sure she’s the one that got away but I personally think that over 4 decades, he got over it and moved to more “important” things…escaping from the sanitarium and reaching his childhood home. Everyone and everything else was just a distraction or anyone that isn’t but he looks at is just a random kill. basically there’s no method to the madness, all his killing is random or something he does in order to get to where he needs to be…his house, looking out that window.

Knowing Michael's background and that he had family doesn't make him less terrifying, it makes him MORE terrifying. Furthermore, the new series made a huge mistake in throwing out Halloween II. I will say, I do think Michael just being a psychotic serial killer makes him more terrifying. While he is still a bit supernatural, he also feels more realistic. Anyone can be stalked and killed by someone random. While rare, it's an unsettling thought. That's what makes Michael so terrifying.

Myers' legacy as a favorite persisted for a few reasons
His aesthetic was perfect. A huge guy with absolutely no recognizable facial features
His movements were very creepy. "The Shape" that was super stiff and lurking
Most of all it was that he did not run after people. He either ambushed them or he simply walked them down
He was menacing and unstoppable. While there is suspension of disbelief in the amount of damage the man could take and still recover, this concept of an unstoppable force that will just keep grinding away and kill everything in its path to its main goal, which in and of itself is not clear is what made him awesome
The last movie I believe is going to get ignored similarly to other iterations in the timeline. Myers is powered by killing and spreading fear and his evil across Haddonfield.
It should always be left at that, any attempts to ground him in real world logic breaks the allure of the character. Suspension of disbelief is how this works, we need to leave it at that.

I will say in defense of keeping family ties to Myers actually works better nowadays than it did back then... Family annihilators are more commonly known about nowadays. People who try or do wipe out their entire family for one reason or another. While typically they are the father figure they have been occasionally a child of said family. So to me it's more realistically scary than just some random guy. So its really up to each person. What's scarier for you, a random unknown figure acting without cause. Or someone who is familiar to you brutally becoming/being a monster.
