Yes, it immensely caught me off guard how complex it seemed. I think I must have been around 9 or 10. I definitely remember having to struggle through certain parts, especially some of the later songs, which I very distinctly remember failing a number of times. They seem relatively simple now that I am older, have much better hand eye coordination and reflexes, and have plenty of other rhythm games under my belt, but yes I would say they are surprisingly challenging for a licensed game.

Little 5 year old me was swimming around for like 20 minutes having a blast, then out of nowhere the first rhythm section started and it kicked my ASS. It's pretty cool that playing through these licensed games got you to want to watch Flushed Away, its pretty good from what I remember of it. If I could recommend another film that one of the licensed games you played was based on, it would be "Meet the Robinsons"; that movie was pretty good and unique as well, and I guarantee that nothing in it gets as annoying as the screaming heads in the game version.

  • @motxmod

I think the reason many licensed games constantly switch gameplay styles is due to the idea that you need multiple gameplay styles to keep the kids attention.

But either way, it's a niche but not empty market. There are some channels (usually animation or dedicated franchise channels) that will stream or even review games like these every now and then. High Voltage made another licensed game called Stitch Experiment 626, which supposedly served as a canon prequel to Lilo and Stitch. From what I remember of the game it was pretty competent and that those developers would go on to develop the Conduit duology on the Wii which I heard was good just never played them. I’d honestly love for the donator’s marathon Johnny to finally tackle the Neptunia series since he got 3 copies of the first game donated. I’d fair warn him though that the first game is so drastically different from all the others that looking at its remake may be essential if he covers the first game.

Ahh yes licensed games, those were always soo fascinating too look at. You never know what types of game your gonna get, if it's gonna be good or not, it's kinda the whole reason i started my channel, because i wanted too showcase licensed games that are genuinely really good or showcase extremely obscure games no-one has ever heard of. Now in terms of the video, i've only played two of those games, King kong and shark tale. For king kong, i liked playing through it, however it is a very ugly game looking back and i wished you got too play as kong a bit more. The shark tale game i played on the original xbox and it was something i guess, not awful but not great. Also funny thing, for the rhythm minigames in that game, you apparently can use a dance pad for it, yeah not kidding. But yeah this was such a great video as always, kinda wish more of these games got re-released more(the closest we get are certain games on Xbox backwards compatibility and i know a alot of old disney and star wars games are on the psn store on ps3), because their are some genuine diamonds in the ruff. But yeah, Awesome video Johnny and i'm looking forward too the rest of the donators marathon!!! >:3 ❤️

The King kong game's definately the best out of the bunch. It probably helps that, I freaking kid you not, Peter Jackson HIMSELF actually had a hand in the development of it.
He was just as much a gamer as he was a fan of the original King Kong and he KNEW that licensed movie games had a curse of just being the worst of the worst so to try and counteract he wanted to the game to take advantage of the fact that, well, it was a video game to the point of even including stuff that was cut from the 2005 movie and an unlockable & playable alternate ending that would allow you to SAVE Kong.
The graphics have DEFINATELY aged like milk, no fan of the game is gonna deny that but fans have and for that matter STILL want this game to get a remaster because of it so much so that when the Kong: Skull Island movie was revealed fans of the game were ESTATIC over the hope that the game would see a rerelease or remaster to coincide with the new Kong movie. Ultimately it never happened and people are still waiting but it just goes to show how good the game was.

And to answer Johnny's question... YES! The first time I got to a rhythm game, I basically didn't get to play the game anymore for like two years because I couldn't get past it. Eventually I came back to it when I was a bit older and got past the first one, then eventually the second one. And honestly I enjoyed the music, but I'm pretty sure those Step Mania levels are why I never got to finish the game.
