Actually, by default the strafe and movement controls were flipped. Strafing on the D-Pad, regular movement on the analog stick. I just set the strafing controls to the analog stick and used that for my movement. To this day Secret Agent Clank is the only Ratchet & Clank title I've played where I haven't completed a challenge mode run at least once, of the titles that have a challenge mode that is which is most of them.
Sly Cooper was lucky enough to get captured by High Impact Games to be screwed over unoliek Jak and Daxter themselves. If wanna get technical with PSP porting to the PS2 try looking at Twisted Metal Head-On originally a PSP game that was Ported over to the PS2 with the Ported Version having extra levels that were meant to be in the Twisted Metal Black Sequel but cancelled
One thing that kinda funny about High Impact Game is that those Ex-ND and Ex-Insomniac were left those company because of crunch culture especially Insomniac back in the day had one of the worst crunch during Up Your Arsenal development
Funny, I'm the polar opposite. Up until my sibling got Rift Apart for the PS5, I'd only ever played these two games (the PSP was *the shit* in my childhood)
@@cyber8697 Rift Apart is another I haven't played. Secret Agent Clank and Size Matters passed me by because I wasn't gaming as much when they came out. And the PS5 is a tad rich for my blood at the moment, but if/when I get one, Rift Apart is going to be one of, if not the, first games I get for it.
I'm doing research on Going Commando for a future Let's Play and I found something interesting a while back: the devs basically shoehorned in Qwark into the game because they missed his brand of humor. So, they did put him in with those documentary episodes as a wya to remind people he still existed. Maybe it was the same thing here for these games, he kept getting included because the devs like working on his stuff. Also, I found a channel that has developer commentary from a couple guys who worked on the first 4 Ratchet and Clank games. Their GC playthrough was pretty interesting to listen to. As far as these games go, I never played them since I always heard negative things about them. Guess I was right to keep avoiding them.
The analog stick turns Ratchet as normal, the D-pad is lock-straf. Is it really that hard to get? Brilliant idea to accommodate the PSP's lack of buttons
As someone who only played Secret Agent Clank's demo back when the PSP was on the newer side, it's really interesting to know that the things Johnny disliked about it are exactly reasons kid me would LOVE that game.
I played both of these on PS2: despite the (many) flaws, I think they're fine games and good additions to the R&C franchise. My favorite is Secret Agent Clank for the concept alone. Also, fun fact: Size Matters was renamed in Italian "Le dimensioni non contano" which means the exact opposite, "size does not matter"....
13:14 - 13:20 Dang, Robot Wars. That takes me back, they still air it in Australia on ABC. If you're lucky, they cycle through the classic seasons. Oh boy, I'd been trying to work out for ages what means there were for trying the PSP titles in the current age, be it on PSP or PS2. And given neither got the PSN treatment, unlike literally EVERY OTHER TITLE, the video tone made sense the further it went. But hey, I'm still curious, so I might give Secret Agent Clank a shot.
I never understood the issues with the psp games, I'd always liked them for the most part. I guess you could say that Secret Agent Clank had some issues, what with the Klunk fight and the...rhythm games I think?
PS2 version of Size Matters is superior to the PSP since it has better graphics, better controls, higher quality cutscenes & extra unlockable costumes. The PS2 version of Secret Agent Clank on the other hand has awful loading issues that rival Sonic 06, glitches that don't exist on PSP, reworked textures across board but they look much more simplistic than on PSP, the cutscene quality is worse (480x272 on PSP, 256x224 on PS2) & has no extras unlike the PS2 version of Size Matters. The only real advantages of SAC on PS2 is that is has better controls & bolts are much more plentiful
ok now that i finished secret agent clank...while i did enjoy it a good chunk of it, the rhythm sections, even tho theres 3 of em kill it for me because like you said, its not mapped to the beat of the music. the final qwark section is hot desert garbage and apparently theres a skill point for the thing youre protecting to not take damage? for 20 rounds? i'd like to meet the nutjob that thought that was ok. for casual replayability i honestly think size matters is actually better than secret agent clank in that regard.
I've come to realize that Insomiac did what Naughy dog couldn't...and thats continuing to make Ratchet and clank game after their new ps3 games (resistance and uncharted)
Well yeah but I also mean in relation to their previous series as well, since both of their ps1 series (Crash and Spyro) were owned by universal. Not to mention there wasn't a original Jak and daxter game ON PS3.
Shego from Kim Possible Kara Danvers from DC Super Hero Girls Ranger Nova from Buzz Lightyear: Star Command Don't forget these roles Nicole Sullivan did as well!
Size Matters is my only exposure to the Ratchet & Clank franchise, I remember having a good time with it a long time ago. Having watched your full marathon gives me a more appreciative look at the series, maybe one day I'll play the home console games.
Secret Agent Clank on the PS2 was a odd port, it have like 2-6 times longer loading times and missing planets transitions loading screens. These are the ports that needed like a remaster/remake or overhaul on the gameplay, and graphics and tweaks, a long time ago.
As someone who hasn't played the game, how much you need to collect to beat the game as for some reason nobody mentions that part on the internet, just that it's a nightmare to complete?
@@V-Jes For a causal playthrough. it's fine. Besides the keys and moves, you need to collect 100 golden bananas, 15 gold medals to play Jet Pac for the Rare coin (as for the Nintendo coin, you have to beat Donkey Kong arcade twice), 4 battle crowns, and 30-50 minutes worth of time in Hideout Helm for gathering blue prints to beat the game. For a completion run, it's a nightmare.
both of these were my first R&C games. which did leave me wanting more, but couldn't find them at a decent price. hadn't touched the series since until i got my PS5 with Rift Apart included. loved that game as well, which again made me want to play the old ones
That part with the plane in the field in Size Matters completely gated me out of the rest of the game as a kid. I just could not beat that damn part for whatever reason. I got frustrated and started the game over, hoping I’d be able to do it this time, but nope. Still never could beat her.
Battlebots is still going strong on the discovery channel! It didn’t die in the 2000’s, hobbyists have kept the sport alive and healthy. Still not as big as it was in the early 00’s though… 😢
Hey Johnny, should let ya know that aparently some people are having issues with Netflix actively blocking VPN's, so you may need to talk with your Sponsor about rewording.
I remember back in about 2007 when I was going through the Ratchet series for the first time, when I got to Size Matters on PS2, I pretty much put it down after a half hour. And I had 100%-ed every Ratchet game before that. You could call it burnout, but I think it was just generally unimpressive to me at the time. Especially with the HD PS3 Future series coming out. Maybe I would’ve liked it better if I played it on the PSP instead
with Size Matters, the biggest issue with me was not the camera or how short the game is, or how few/uninspired some weapons are, my biggest issue was the enemies. All tge enemies of this game are bullet sponges, you could empty your entire ammo on a single enemy and get him to half of their health. This only gets worse with the bosses in which you will literary run out of ammo and basically get screwed if the bosses dont kill you first with their overpowered attacks. its clear the enemies were done like this to artificially prolongo the game's running time and it ended up being their worst thing to do.
The first R&C game i ever played and the most on the PSP with Namco Museum and Ape Escape Academy I did love playing this game. But man when you get max health for some reason you die in 1 hit and I hated it so much
To the Dance Sequences in Agent Clank, they are a nod to the One Thing that gets James Bond in Trouble. A late night out at a Fancy Ballroom after Seizing Valueable Info on his Targets. *Every. Single. Time.*
I had these growing up! I never completed them, even though I loved the PS2 games. Just bounced right off. And I was a big PSP girl, I'd always be playing it!
I remember how playing Size Matters on a friend's PSP blew my mind as a kid, Thanks to this game I became a fan and discovered other great Sony games so I'll always love it for this reason (Played it like 10 times and even made a crappy 2D remake)
I know its for a bit, but seeing you throw those PSP boxes caused me so much anxiety remembering how fragile the UMDs could be and how i ended up breaking one

Glad to see you alive and well, Johnny - as well as doing what you do best! (By the way, how Elliot Cancel and Matthew Metelli of former SGB channel are doing?)
Honestly, Secret Agent Clank’s story would’ve been a lot better if they dropped all the Captain Quark stuff, or at least keep it as optional mini games or post-game content, and focused more on the actual “Secret Agent Clank” part, with the whole James Bond parody angle.

@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective I mean he also did replace Clank for a bit of the game and Ratchet was none the wiser.
@@JMandJJ7797 True, like the funniest thing about him is that "What a load of Bullsh-...." I kind of wish he had a few more laughs ya know?
About Secret agent Clank's place in the timeline some theories point out that this game happens within Clank dreams between the events of Quest for booty and a Crack in Time
It's canonically an episode of the show according to devs.
@@Game_Hero i wouldn't trust High Impact games, also in the Show Ratchet wasn't even called Ratchet he was called Jeeps, and he was fired and Skrunch is no where to be seen despite being his replacement.
The way the Like, comment, ring the bell and subscribe appears in a non-intrusive way makes me appreciate how you are my favorite youtuber on this platform!
I played these games and the Jak & Daxter games on the PSP cause I watched a lot of Let's plays on the PS2 platformer games.
Leave it to Johnny to distract me from an incoming hurricane.
Sly Cooper was lucky enough to get captured by High Impact Games to be screwed over unoliek Jak and Daxter themselves. Kinda surprised they were already out of business ever since and still question why they went back tot eh Ps2 Designs of them Inside of updating their designs unlike the later games.
I am half way across the world from home but I still get joy when I see Johnny uploads vidoes.
You made some solid progress with your video goals this year, Johnny. We are approaching the end of the year and I'm wondering, you going to be able to fit the rest in? If you had to ax one of the planned visits which one would it be?
If wanna get technical with PSP porting to the PS2 try looking at Twisted Metal Head-On originally a PSP game that was Ported over to the PS2 with the Ported Version having extra levels that were meant to be in the Twisted Metal Black Sequel but cancelled
One thing that kinda funny about High Impact Game is that those Ex-ND and Ex-Insomniac were left those company because of crunch culture especially Insomniac back in the day had one of the worst crunch during Up Your Arsenal development
Johnny you’re really putting yourself through a lot with playing these games first then 100% DK64 😂
The future games are really good, looking forward to you playing them
As big a Ratchet and Clank fan that I am, these are two of few games in the series I never played. So seeing it in action is interesting
The ending credits theme for your videos slap bro.
A robot wars and battlebots reference.. noice
As someone who only played Secret Agent Clank's demo back when the PSP was on the newer side, it's really interesting to know that the things Johnny disliked about it are exactly reasons kid me would LOVE that game.
Size matters was one of my first psp games takes me back to good times
I played both of these on PS2: despite the (many) flaws, I think they're fine games and good additions to the R&C franchise. My favorite is Secret Agent Clank for the concept alone. Also, fun fact: Size Matters was renamed in Italian "Le dimensioni non contano" which means the exact opposite, "size does not matter"....
6:27 RIP Portable Ops, lol
I really liked the villain using Ratchet clones. Like finally someone else is using his skillset and weapon provider against him
I've come to realize that Insomiac did what Naughy dog couldn't...and thats continuing to make Ratchet and clank game after their new ps3 games (resistance and uncharted)
Kind of an awkward analogy. Don't you mean "continued their platformer franchise after the PS3"?
Well yeah but I also mean in relation to their previous series as well, since both of their ps1 series (Crash and Spyro) were owned by universal. Not to mention there wasn't a original Jak and daxter game ON PS3.
@@SIMIFUI read somewhere that they were developing a Jak and Daxter game on PS3 but it somehow evolved into The Last of Us.
Oh Hi Nicole Sullivan, Yeah seriously TV actress Nicole Sullivan voices Luna only for Size Matters.
Shego from Kim Possible
Kara Danvers from DC Super Hero Girls
Ranger Nova from Buzz Lightyear: Star Command
Don't forget these roles Nicole Sullivan did as well!
@@PhoenixGamerxx9613 Relax I haven't forgotten the roles she played.
@@SegaNintendoGuy64 I am not upset. I want just quick to remind you about these roles.
You're a brony fan? I am too. Just letting you.
@@PhoenixGamerxx9613 That's fine, Both what you said and the Brony part.
Size Matters is my only exposure to the Ratchet & Clank franchise, I remember having a good time with it a long time ago.
Having watched your full marathon gives me a more appreciative look at the series, maybe one day I'll play the home console games.
Size matters was my first R&C game I played as a kid and didn't play the others until I got older.
So the antagonist wants to steal the protagonist’s DNA and create a clone army? Well, at least Ratchet doesn’t have to deal with any EMMIs.
Raven Beak is after it's time
The end ....... for now now i just need to see Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter reviews and i'm golden

Press LT and RT buttons at the same time to combine your powers.
Looks like a homing shot. Be careful, Sonic.
I'm surprised you actually like these spin offs especially the latter since I remember a lot of people saying Secret Agent Clank sucks.
I liked Secret Agent Clank
Me too, it's among my favourite games just for the humor alone.
@@Game_Hero and the cutscenes
I feel while disconnected, the mutiplayer for size matters should have been mentioned had good times playing online matches in the PSP days.
Man I remember that day got a psp and size matter on Christmas man it was the best Christmas gift 🤘
Secret Agent Clank on the PS2 was a odd port,
it have like 2-6 times longer loading times and missing planets transitions loading screens.
These are the ports that needed like a remaster/remake or overhaul on the gameplay, and graphics and tweaks, a long time ago.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
For DK64, you don't have to collect everything to beat the game's story. If you do, you'll get a secret bloopers ending.
And just like Kojima , portable ops doesn't exist to johnny

Nah, that game is trash.
with Size Matters, the biggest issue with me was not the camera or how short the game is, or how few/uninspired some weapons are, my biggest issue was the enemies.
Will you ever review the Tak and the Power of Juju trilogy?
i will say size matter game play, is still my favorite game to play
The first R&C game i ever played and the most on the PSP with Namco Museum and Ape Escape Academy
I did love playing this game.
Not to mention PSP games are becoming hard to come by.
17:37 Is it wrong that the first thing this made me think of was Ma Beagle from the original Ducktales?
Greetings and salutations from Russia! (I'm probably the only one of your fans from that region of the world.)
I'm still surprised that you haven't done "Johnny vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge" yet - even though the game is still relatively new.
Wouldn't it have make it more repetitive? And also we wouldn't have gotten the glorious Qwark opera.
