Fellow Pennsylvanian here: people do in fact go vacation in Amish country and watch them. My mom had a whole collection of Amish made toys and trinkets. Some towns even have “on” and “off” seasons when most tourists would come by. They make some kick ass baked goods, though
I used to live near an Amish town and they had a main street where they sold their handmade goods. The homemade ice cream was the best. Those running the stores would talk to us, but otherwise they're out there living their lives.

I've found that often, unless someone is currently living in a Great Lakes state or grew up close to a Great Lake, they have no concept of how big the Great Lakes actually are. They are more like inland seas. Not only are there beaches, but some of the beaches along the Great Lakes are just as good as the ones in Florida or California. They have currents and can sometimes have big waves. Wait until Nick finds out people surf on the Great Lakes too...

I had no idea how many people swam in Lake Michigan, right in the heart of downtown Chicago. People strip down to their suits and jump in the water…. some people are out there for hours doing laps. It was surprisingly wonderful
Today I learned: Motel does not stand for Mini Hotel. “Motel” is a shortening of “motor hotel.” It's a hotel built to allow you to park right at your room door, at least if you're on the ground floor, rather than having to go in by the front desk and down corridors. If you go inside first and then find your room, it's a hotel.
They had a couple of aircraft carriers on that lake for training Navy pilots. Several of the crashed planes are still submerged in the lake. If I remember correctly, one of the aircraft carriers was powered by paddle wheel.

Can confirm, a family trip to Amish country always felt like we were kinda there to look at them and their lifestyle, have some food, and go home. Best case scenario was slightly awkward interactions with locals.
