Feiten, totally underrated, no one like him, an original.
I saw him with Butterfield Blues Band on labor day weekend 1968 at the Cafe Au Go Go N.Y.C. They played there the entire week. He was 19 or so. Terrific!
Wonderful! Did he play his Sunburst 345 into a Pro Reverb then?
No sir
I could listen Buzz Feiten all day.
me too...one of my favorites ever!
Me gusta su m'usica, son excelentes profesionales!
Buzz never fails to produce the goods! Loved his style for a lifetime and watching it evolve. Rock on man! Terrific band.
Best guitarist I never heard of. I just accidentally found his Woodstock performance. Jeezum, he is as good as it gets, Steve Morse class. And such a nice guy on top. I'm gonna look up everything he ever did. What a treat.
" just accidentally found his Woodstock performance." likewise
Where has this been hiding? Another treasure from MI.
Buzz is a genius
One of my favorites. 😎🤓
Wow! Thnx Buzz for the post. Hope and pray your getting stronger every day!
Just as much as the music is the time Buzz spends.....talking and sharing..about the music experience ....what a player ....he knocks me out .....his sense of time...is so good!
Let's get funky. Makes you Wana move and feel the groove.🥳
Very clear notes perfect arrangement
Great players.....for sure......I met Brandon Fields when he was with Dave Weckl at a club in Chicago .... on break just talking about times and people in the music biz.....Brandon tells me he remember playing on a session with my cousin Jody Fisher... that was cool....
WOW WOW WOW ! THIS GUITARIST IS A PURE GENIUS ! BRANDON FIELDS AWESOME !
No Instrument is louder than the other.,that spells experience and the crew knows one another pretty well
Followed Buzz since I first heard him in 1968 on Butterfield's Keep On Moving and with the same band same year at the Fillmore in San Francisco. Always among my top favorites. But he never plays live anymore. Went to New York with a girlfriend in 2016 to see him at the Cutting Room. But he was a no show. I wish he played in LA where he lives. That's an easy throw from Northern California. Everything he plays is wonderful.
superb guitar and fine band. what a Rascal!
What a great musician and man!
Great funky stuff with Buzz Feiten Band !
absolutely magnificent
Yeah, I remember him from Butterfield too. I saw him with them in Chicago, i think at the Auditorium. I do remember he used a blue telecaster. His solo on "keep on Movin" ......"Where did my Baby Go" still rings in my head, I still have that on Vinyl.....and he was just a kid. Great player, unique in a field where that is not an easy thing to be.
I always liked Mr. Feiten's guitar work in the albums of Stuart Hamm. 🎸 🔥
Just discovered this. What a treat. Buzzy is as good as it gets...otherwise it just gets different. His soulful melodic passionate playing just hits me straight in the gut. There's a lot of players that are "technically" incredible but they don't hit me like this. Buzzy has it all. Taste, phrasing, playfulness, melodic intricacy, his own unique style, soul, all of it. Thank you Buzz for being one of my biggest influences and one who has overcome demons to continue to share his incredible creativity to the world. I'm simply in awe of you brother. Much love to you always JP
You hit the nail square on the head Jeff.Ive love his playing since his Butterfield days I still play my Full Moon cd's in my car along with Rascals "Isle of Real" and Larson/Feiten CD's Saw him with Full Moon and with Riki Lee Jones and this band at Bottom Line I used to come see you play every Sunday nite at "Preachers" in the Village when you were playing with Joe Manoti .One night I brought Dave Spinoza to see you and I ran into you in Cali when you were playing with Marc Cohen and you sat in with Crosby Stills & Nash Hope your well brother Always loved your playing too ..James Farrell
@@taukhouse44 Hey James! Thanks for the note and sharing the fond memories! Big fan of Spinoza too!! Hope you are happy and healthy my friend!
Some additional remarks on Buzz' explanations on the BZ tuning system.
- the first fret sharp phenomenon relates to the mathematical formular ONLY applying to an ideal string. In the real world, strings have thickness, are build out of specific material, all this influencing their stiffness, how the overtone series of a string develops (BTW thats the reason, why extralong scale basses sound better: the string thickness to fretboard length ratio gets better, or the string gets thinner in relation to the fretboard length, which enables better overtones).
- piano tuning: please keep in mind, that a piano string only has to produces exactly one (1) pitch. Which allows for perfect tuning. Whereas a guitar sting in conjunction with the fretboardplacement has to produce up to 24 different pitches. Much more complexity to the task.
Well, hell…that was a amazing! It makes more sense that a great guitarist would figure out a better way to intonate a guitar than an inventor plays guitar.
Bravo! Great set!
Top level , no safe ...so happy to upear'such musicians ...knew him 30 years ago ...so ...thks for the Rainbow Blow ...!!!
deep algo-worlds aroyund ...!!!
Buzz, Robben Ford, Mike Miller.......L.A. Fusion Guitar masters!!!
WOW.
Look up Michael Thompson another from LA, one of the all time greats who did some gigs with Buzz
Beautiful work Buzz does, soulful, funky, groove, tasteful. With his friends in craft around making music, He has been an influence, since we were both young, on my playing. wish him lots more to create more beauty in the world, Thank you Buzz. Bill J
Just watched footage of Buzzy at Woodstock with the Butterfield Blues band. Pretty cool to see that juxtaposed with his more recent work here.
Thanks for sharing!!
He is so sweet and true when he talks about tecniques... just use it to express your feelings...🙂
It is always great and inspiring to hear musicians who go 100% into their music. Instrumental music like this keeps me going. Feiten is inspiring to me because he was great when very young ... Rascals and Full Moon -- but now listen to him go! every note is just what it needs to be! The first cut has really got me psyched up.
@Charlzz95 g Yes ,also on Island of Real. Don't forget ,before that He played w/ and on Stevie's records..
The Q&A part of this video is very inspirational. The advice on professionalism, improvisation, etc. is really valuable
Nice stuff... very nice! I like this a lot.
Buzzy’s chord voicings are the best
Hats off to Buzz Feiten, everyone is always on about Carlton, Ford, etc...great players of course but Buzz is absolutely great and underrated with his own very unique sound
Robben would agree with you wholeheartedly i dare say on his behalf, because I have heard him mention how he admires his playing so much. after 6 years I wonder if u will see this...
Yeah .... so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanx so much for posting these "Throwback" videos, guys .
I was watching "No Direction Home" and I paused it when Dylan laughed at the mention of Mike Bloomfield . So i checked him out, found Paul Butterfield and ended up with this absolute master guitarist....all in the space of about 15 minutes. I still have Dylan paused and this guy is the best guitarist I've heard in a long time. I've been listening to a lot of Rory Gallagher this weekend so maybe Its just serendipity ...
I just discovered Buzz this morning. UA-cam showed me a Paul Butterfield blues band at Woodstock video. I watched it, and a young kid was ripping up some blues guitar. A comment on the video said his name was Buzzy Feiten. I searched UA-cam wondering what happened to him, and came up with this. I love UA-cam just because of this. I can see bands I never ever would have seen, playing live all over the world from the 50s until today.
for some reason his guitar sounds more in tune than other guitarist's guitars do
Shut up, haha. You know what hes famous for. Dont try to play Mr. Miracle Ears haha
Buzz explains his tuning system in the Q&A part of this video
🤫🤣
MONSTER BAND
His guiter seems more eloquent than most
Two friends from the same era, brilliant players, instantly recognizable, totally unique: Danny Weis and Buzzy Feiten. First time Branden Fields was with Dave Weckyl...Dang ! Great band !
The ferocious sting of Buzzy's guitar is legendary. Whether playing with Paul Butterfield, the Rascals, Full Moon or Dave Weckl, B's fiercely funky attack never fails to thrill. How lucky that when god invented the electric guitar he made sure to put one in B's hands, because that's what prayer is meant to sound like.
Listen to his song 'A Simple Prayer' ... he debuted it with Weckl and also played it on an album he did with Richard Pelkoff.
wow...
I think Buzzy was only seventeen when he played with the great Paul Butterfield. Buzzy is a very fine guitarist he also invented the auto tune on many guitars.
never thought he was the guitarist in weckl's synergy, then I discovered and it made sense, all his musical taste and unique expression, love his playing
This is one of my favourit guitarplayer , enjoy, it does´nt get any better then this.
One of greatest videos I have ever seen on You Tube.....very special!
Davis Ramey was my 1st jazz gtr teacher, & he also inspired me for years. Great player & great teacher. Yes I still love his lesson material when I go back thru my studies- classic stuff from a wonderful guitarist
Buzz was always one of my favorite players , but not as well known as his tasty playing deserves. Thank you Buzz!
check out Jungle Walk by the Rascals!
When was this performance at MI?
Bass player is superb ! Groove Master indeed !
Awesome music, have really enjoyed Buzz's guitar since I first caught the Full Moon stuff of the early 70's.
Buzzy Feiten Played With Jimi Hendrix Back in the Day. I Wonder What He Learned From Him and His Playing. He is on A DVD That is Getting Hard to Find Called Paul Butterfield Live in Rockpalast Germany Blues Legends Vol. 2 Try Amazon. He Smokes on Guitar and is Backed By Another Great Guitar Player Peter Atanasoff. you Can Find it on Amazon Maybe or Watch it on UA-cam if it's There. it is Getting Hard to Find. But This Guy is Not Mentioned in the Music, World Much or Not A Lot of People Know Who He is. I Think He is Underrated. What you See in the Video is Really Great Playing By 2. Great Guitar Players Alike...
In. The. Pocket.
You guys sound awesome by the way....
Anybody know the playlist? I'd love to know the names of these gems, as I've sadly only recently discovered him.
Awesome
Was Buzz sick or just some sandwich's? Surprisingly good tone from his Tele.
This is so good! Very cool compositions played by amazing musicians=awesome experience. Thanks for the post. I've been a huge Buzzy fan since my teen years. He's a special player.
top fucking notch
In the past few months I've seen two great bands and performances at M.I. by two great guitar players. Danny Weis with Funk Attack and now Buzzy Feiten

Buzz Feiten could really play always so tasty...
Glad too see you out from the vault. It has been to long since I have seen you perform. I love these all tunes. Awesome stuff!
The Weckl with the pestle has the pellet with the poison. The chalice from the palace has the brew that is true.
A Face in the Crowd good Court Jester reference
i´d like to hear this stuff with dave weckl behind the kit, i would have been astounding
I never knew he sang!
'Who Will Be The Fool Tonight' Larsen/Feiten Band. That's the first song I heard Buzz sing. He's got an excellent singing voice.
Great Stuff !
I really liked Buzzy's playing with Paul Butterfield. Is there no more market for blues at all? Of course we all move on.
Thanks for this MI! Buzz and the guys are amazing! Keep those vids coming.. anything with Vinnie Colaiuta?
En gudabenådad gitarrist, fantastiska medmusiker, bättre än så här blir det inte.
good groove, thank you
the "Buzz Feiten Tuning System" in action - google it yalls.
I tend to agree
Wow, so nice to hear, and WHAT is that guitar he is playing? Does anyone know?? Is it one of his?
I have a guitar with the Buzz Feiten Tuning System. Anyone ever heard of that?
Fantastic. Where can I get a CD of this stuff?
Strange how tuning of the sitar was before pytigras
Buzz played with Neil Larsen on my LP's. Check them out
Yep.
Who's at the keys?
Once upon a time there was the Average White Band. Hummmmmmm 40 years ago. Me thinks!
How can all these musical students sit as a musical audience without moving there heads or bodies when listening to funk like this? It seems as an odd and much to indifferent response to this magic performance. Maybe they are much to much in there heads, and will end up as doctor or lawyers, and not musicians? Maybe they dont appreciate magic music at all? Sorry but I just have to ask.
I know right?
Too busy being too cool and jaded
I think they were being respectful and as students they were in learning mode. Just my opinion
Leaning mode? I figure you wanted to write learning mode? Anyway- I hope you are right, but I am just not really that convinced.
ha - yea meant to say "learning". I fixed it. So yea I think most students are on the level and are just trying to analyze what's going on but I willingly concede that there were probably a few "above it all" types in the crowd.
Never saw Brandon before thought he was black...
He also played with Los Lobotomys. 👍❤
That Drummer needs to Mic his set...can't hear any Bass nor drums for that matter.
This Buzz guy, he has good tunes….. get it? No?
Ok I’ll let myself out.
Este bajista no m gusta e muy simple no tiene emocion y no se oye en la grabaCion baila mucho y toca poco
i cant hear the organ nor the sax, thanks sound guy, you totally fucked up
I do not like jazz or whatever they play. Same song back to back. Nothing pretty.
