#poland #reaction
Over 100,000 Polish soldiers fought in Napoleon's army. After the partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, people counted on Napoleon's help in regaining independence.
That's true.
Napoleon Bonaparte of course
Poland bordered the Krimean Tatars and the Ottoman Empire, the Winged Hussars were often used against them. The Balcan Hussars were light cavalry while the Polish ones where a heavy one.
The horse and the armour together could cost as much as the equivalent of 4 villages. Poorer knights could be sponsored by noble women who wanted to contribute to the defence of the country. 15 kg is not that heavy if you consider that one of the Polish female folk costumes is as heavy and women dance mazurkas in them which are very demanding and acrobatic kind of dances. ;)
The hussars not only won battles at a great numeral disadvantage but also didn't suffer many losses in humans and horses. The Swedish infantry had it quaranteed in their contracts that they'd never have to fight against the hussars in an open field. At one point the Swedish king had to double their wages to make them fight. They lost anyway even though their army was 3 times larger.
Only the Polish hussars took part in the Siege of Vienna where Sobieski led three combined armies. The Lithuanians didn't arrive on time. The Ottoman Empire didn't fall at once, but ever since that battle it was getting weaker and weaker and shrank back until it became the modern Turkiye.
In the 18th century Poland reformed its army and ever since then the major cavalry were the ułans (lancers). They contributed to Napoleon's (yes, that Napoleon) conquer of Europe after Poland was divided by Russia, Prussia and Austria in the hope of his helping Poles to regain their country. The Polish lancers were copied by every major country in Europe (yes, Germany too) and the USA, hence they celebrate the Pulaski day in America, General Pułaski being considered the father of the American cavalry.
There were also failed attempts by the French and Russian courts to recreate the Winged Hussars. They couldn't succeed because the attitudes and ethics of the hussars stemmed from the Polish nobles' democracy and couldn't be instilled in a mercenary army.
Polish cavalry was famous for many battle achievements.
One of them was crazy charge of Somosierra during Spain campaign. Polish ulans didn't stop attack until all Spanish gun batteries fell.
Yes, this is about Napoleon I Bonaparte, During the partitions, Poles supported Napoleon because they saw in him hope for regaining independence. That is why the Poles played key roles in Napoleon's army, especially in his invasion of Russia. Napoleon termed this war the "Second Polish War" in an attempt to gain increased support from Polish patriots.
The Napoleon's Army was significantly based on the Polish Legions; it numbered about 30,000 and was expanded during wartime to almost 100,000.
Hi! I'm Polish living in Italy, I feel so amazed about you learning more and more about our culture. You're doing great! Proud of your approach
No ….. szacun.
European mercenaries at one point had the clause in their contracts: they will fight under condition, not against the Winged Hussars 💪
The winged hussars are the best thing our ancestors invented. Invincible, unique and
invincible. Apparently they were so confident that they claimed that they could support the falling sky on their lances. We have always had traditions of cavalry and saber. The Polish saber was very specific, combining East and West.
Hello, many parts from this video comes from movie „With fire and sword” You can watch it if you like. It is about civil war with Ukraine which was part of Poland at this time. Regards.
On September 12, 1683, a great battle took place near Vienna between Turkish troops and the allied Austrian-German-Polish troops commanded by Jan III Sobieski. The victory was achieved thanks to the charge of the Polish hussars, which forced the Turks to flee.About 30 thousand crown troops, including 24 banners of hussars, and on July 29, without waiting for the late Lithuanians, he quickly marched to the relief of Vienna. The march route led through Silesia, Moravia and the Czech Republic. The victory of John III Sobieski in Vienna over the power of the Ottoman Empire brought the Polish king widespread fame throughout Europe and even beyond its borders. Sobieski's fame even reached distant Iran.
In Lord of the Rings (movie), the charge of Rohirrims to Helm's Deep was inspired by the Hussars riding down the hill towards Vienna. Coming down the mountain side...
Fun fact about the wings of Polish Hussars.
It is theorised they had a practical function and it was to protect the wearer from ropes. I do not remember it too well so I am not sure if it were mongolians or turks, more likely mongolians, used lassos to rip cavalry men off their horses. The wings which sometimes extended beyond a wearer's head made it harder to properly hit a horseman's neck or head with the loop of the rope and simply slid to the side after striking the metalic wings.
There was Many Polish Legions in Napoleon's French Army. We helped in liberation of Switzerland and helped Italians to form unified republic we know today. Our Legions marched with Napoleon until the end - to the gates of Moscow and later in Battle of Waterloo. We hoped we could regain independence. We failed and had to wait another 100 years for freedom.

Thank You for mentioning Poland and You should visit this beautiful country 😉
Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱 ❤
You will finally learn about the undefeated Hussars who have been dealing cards in battles for 200 years - good job
4:25 - Yes, light. Knights used armors of 20-30kg weight....
I think contemporary soldiers have 25-30 kg on them today.
Als Nächstes Sabaton "Winged Hussars", bitte! 💪🏻😆🎶
No w końcu by się przydało 👍
5:43 - Is a Big, Green Banner of Mahometh. A symbol Ottomans Empire.
Venimus, vidimus, Deus vicit! 'We came, we saw, God conquered'. This Latin sentence, paraphrased from the famous saying by Julius Caesar, was used by Polish King Jan III Sobieski in his letter to Pope Innocent XI announcing that the allied side under his leadership was victorious and had defeated the Ottoman forces beseiging Vienna in 1683. It was one of the most famous and important battles of the 17th century so it is not surprising that through the years researchers from many countries wrote about the siege, relief of the city and its consequences.
8:24 Hussars charged with other cavalry units form holy league and were low on numbers compared to other, but ottomans considered them as the main threat anyway and set most troops on flank poles charged. After such charge ottomans abandoned the siege but still had much power left. Holy league and ottomans fought again at 'Parkany' and poles played again main role in victory, ottomans lost most soldiers and ability to fight.
It started seriers of wars against ottomans, even Russia joined to fight on current east Ukraine area.
Ottomans recruited new army, again huge but not experienced. They lost again, this time Austria defeated ottomans at 'Zanta', which was fatal blow for them.
It is called 'great turkish war'.
Western soldiers very often had in contracts to fight against everybody but not against Polish husars.
Yes, Hussars' horses were usually fully treined around their 7th year (except in wartime, when the hussar lost his horses, then any horse is better than none...), and one Hussar had to have at the very least 2 horses, more favorably- a grup of them. All Hussar equipment was very expensive, hence the name: "army of kings".
EDIT:
10:11 yes, Napoleon Bonaparte.
In Poland you have special and limited editions and yes, you can use them to pay in stores, but it is not cost-effective
U used two finger Polish salute ;-)
Regards...
Yes, that Napoleon. Poles fought for him in Napoleonic Wars against Russia with hope to recreate their country
Polska kiedyś naprawdę była wielka.
The coin is not in circulation, it is collectable item. The Winged Calvary was one of the first European armored fist.
Sabaton Winged Hussars is a must, pleeease
Husaria byla i jestt duma polskiego oręża.
6:55 Poland was only who take the capital of the Russia
actually the Germans also could have taken it but decided to focus on other goals. One should not over-mystify things.
@publicminx so the Germans didn't conquer the capital of Russia only Poland. Napoleon conquer a Moskaw but not the capital of Russia
And than, the Winged Hussars arrived 🇵🇱⚔️🇵🇱
btw, info quite wrong, hussars served for almoust 400 years
Maybe Sabaton "Winged Hussars" next time? ;)
Mein Lieber. Wenn Du was uber Polen sagst, hast Du immer einen "Like" von mir. Alles Gute! 👍
On August 15, 2024, the Polish Army Parade will take place in Warsaw. There will be tanks, howitzers, Patriot batteries, Himars launchers, planes and drones. You can come to Warsaw that day and record a video report of this event.
Husaria failed after Swedish came with guns. And canons...no chance..but the ironically those who finaly pushed away swedish attack were monks who defends monastery, and there turned point came.Everything has its time and end...nothing last here on earth...
There was also battle of Mohylew , 200 hussars defended city with city's folk 30000 of Moscals
When Sabaton about them?
Or White Death? Or Red Baron?
You know why you haven't heard because Europe wants to destroy our history I'm telling you this seriously, as well as other countries. Poland really has a great history, that's why Poles are brave because we have it in our blood. You would have to delve into Polish history and even if some movies are deceitful giving you a stupid example of breaking the Enigma code they attributed it to someone else and it was broken by Poles.
Conspiracy theories. He hasnt heard because he doesnt know much history - even not about German history. Higher educated Germans know not just about the Hussars (which btw. were also as variation part of the army of Friedrich dem Grossen/Friedrich the Great/Prussia) but in difference to English or French also about the history of the entire East of Germany/Holy Roman Empire and the North and the Balkans etc. Keep in mind that the Holy Roman Empire (and also Hanseatic League, Prussia and so on) had also a long history in such regions and as most of the time biggest Empire (most populated as well - much higher population as Poland-Lithuania btw. - today it had 220 mio. people with over 9 trillian gdp) and Germans mapped a lot of the world (thats why America is named America in the first place, thats due to a German geograph/map) and also wrote a lot of books, introduced masses of different university fields in which also those regions play a role. the question is rather how much do YOU know about Europeans history after the decline of the Western Roman Empire (like the Frankish Empire with its base in Austrasia (Western Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands) which Aachen in the center (kind of the major city of Karl dem Grossen/Charles the Great) and the following Holy Roman Empire (Western Frankish Empire became France which is why it has the same name - and the same name as you have in Frankfurt or Franken/Bavaria etc.). And because I know more about history I also know that its of course a bit of a exaggeration to say that the Polish Hussars saved Christianity in Vienna. First if all a great Polish general led the attack but this was not only coordinated/supported by the Holy Roman Empire but part of that army were also masses of Germans from the Empire (what like many things Polish often forget - and there are many more details forgotten from Polish sides in all kind of those oversimplified videos). Back to the battle of Vienna against the Ottomans. They were actually already starting to decline even if it appeared to be on their peak. And after that battle they were followed and continued to be attacked by some armies of the HRE/Habsburgs which caused more perma losses ... this doesnt mean that the Polish Hussars were not great, they were and they were indeed very known. And that the Army who freed Vienna from its occupation was led by a Pole also showed that this leader was respected and considered as good to be trusted to lead that mixed army. And it turned out that it was a good decision. Apart from that, the Ottomans could never have occupied the HRE core regions. To far away and fighting against the big other empires and core of Western Europe was a bit of a different task. Actually Central Europe could already have beaten the Ottomans if they were not mostly focused on themself and fighting each other (often some powers, for instance France, sided with the Ottomans instead of fighting them). But to be fair, there was also a lot going on in Western-Central Europe (and after medieval age also many parts of the connected world) which permanently changed the priorities ...

What you won't see Battle for Poland - Animated |Countryballs| (1939-40)
which has as many as 5 million views, say yes please
true for the coin :) nice material :) thumb up
The wings were made of metal in order to make noise while charging what scared the horses of enemy and enemies as well
The hussars were so powerful and destructive that people from all over the world spent years trying to figure out how to defend themselves against them. That's why better weapons were created, because there was no chance of winning in contact. By the way, the spears that were invented during the time of "Alexander the Great" for his army were invented by a Polish woman. Check it out. :)
Was nicht jeder weiß. Als der Husar getötet wurde. Hat das Pferd weiter gekämpft.
I don’t what you are smoking but I want it too 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, you can pay with such commemorative coins, they are valid, but it is more of a collector item. Only 10 500 of those were minted, so numismatics lovers want to have those in their collections.

Technically remanent of Winged Hussars was the one who captured Moscow second time under Napoleon. So yeh.
Chris, where did you go??
Lighter than knight armor i think
The Polish hussars were one of the best cavalry in the history of the world.
In 1683, the Polish hussars saved Europe from the threat of the Ottoman Empire by going to the aid and saving besieged Vienna. Austria thanked us for this 100 years later. Austria expressed its gratitude in such a way that together with Prussia and Russia they dismantled the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and for 123 years Poland ceased to exist.
Today, Europe is once again threatened by the invasion of Muslim immigrants and there are no longer any hussars to defend it.
****
1:10 - This wings is a legend, but not a real... Husars using sometimes wing emblemats or sign, or for ceremonies only, put one single small wing to horse mount. If you see paint from XVI-XVII centaury, lie "Battle of Orsha" or "Battle of Klushino", you don't see any wings... But... Husar lances have very long banders on top... 1,5m to 2m long, cut in 1/3 long on two triangles... When husars charge with 50-60 km/h with this banders on lances, you hear horibly noises and see very colorfull wall of storm from banders, like tsunami comings to you...
Muslim Flag, and yes its very close to Saudi Arabian. Poland fought since 700 years against muslims
😊
this is coin for collections, of course is too much for daily use.
Napoleon in polish sounds different but this guy speaking isn't Polish. He butchered polish names too. But he can be Slavic I guess.

Zwycięstwo pod Wiedniem było przyczyną 3 rozbiorów Polski. Gdyby Polacy odmówili pomocy Austrii to mocarstwo Austro-Węgierskie by upadło i nie byłoby rozbiorów Polski.

There was no wings on their backs. This is the biggest lie of Hussars history.
You're wrong. The wings were there. Just some historians dispute if they were used in the battle but nobody disputes their existence.
to be more precise there were wings but in most cases they were used in parades or during etering captured city et cetera. in battle no more then 10 - 15% of hussars used wings. the myth about wings was created becouse just under the tip of hussars lance there were special banners about 40 cm wide and long for even up to 4 meters and cut from half of lenght into long triangles. during charge that banners were constantly moving and maiking huge noises like whips. that makes enemies think there were wings
@@sylwia1410 Not on their backs. There was sometimes one or two small wings on the saddle and nothing more.
Husaria nosiła skrzydła głównie podczas uroczystości jednak też zdarzało się to na polu bitwy jednak wtedy nie było to obowiązkowe choć faktycznie takie stereotypowe wielkie dostojne skrzydła były rzadkością
@@hatakekakashi7678 That really depended. Some wore them on their back, some attached to their saddles. And they definitely weren't all small. Those were long 200 years during which people experimented as they wished.
