Gotta say this one is the first ship where I really think "I want that!". I love the visual as well as the gameplay concept so far, the price tho makes this an in-game only buy for me. Well that and the fact that we don't know what it's gonna end up looking like eventually (looking at you, fat penguin carrack). But tbh I don't see it as a "combat only" ship at all. What I see is a very well armed mobile base for smaller orgs that don't have the funds and/or manpower to handle a large carrier. I mean this thing has all the stuff you need for many gameplay loops including exploration. The hangar could handle a smaller exploration craft and otherwise could function as a repair station for the smaller ships of the group. Also the smaller size makes it way more flexible in many situations. It's easier to relocate (or to run from something) and if cornered it can dish out serious damage. It's basically a larger version of the already very versatile connie and it wouldn't surprise me if we'd get several variants that are optimized for certain career paths.

Base for a small org? I see it as a home for me, myself and AI. I see it as a Carrack with teeth. The one thing I don't agree with you is the ease of relocating. When you pass 150 meters (Polaris will be around 170 - 190) it doesn't matter if you're 170m or 350m, the agility and speed difference will be too small for it to be consequantial.

@@captainharlock3998 speed should still be relevant, especially compared to the really big ships it should still have a mobility advantage. @@justalex4214 The Hammerhead max speed is 1000 scm. The Idris is 1450 scm. The Polaris will be faster than a Kraken. Will it be faster than an Idris? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. The Perseus is made to stand and fight. A S10 will still wreck it. A Polaris is made to hit and run, that doesn't mean an Idris can't catch it if it puts it's mind to it. But everything is up in the air right now...

@@captainharlock3998 a debate about maneuverability using current ingame values is pointless, all of those are subject to change since they are reworking quantum travel aswell as cruise and combat speeds anyway. Also none of the current specs of the ships are final either, not even those that are already in game. I'm simply using a general logical approach regarding ship size and class, but in the end it's just speculation and only time will tell how all this will look like when (or if) the game is finished.

I think this is a cool ship. It would be awesome if I had a job in the Torpedo room, like I have to push a button and turn a wrench or something. I wouldn't buy it but would love to be part of the crew. Nice video Grumpy - Thanks. War not profitable? Tell that to the orgs that hold Jumptown.

probably be some balancing as more ships enter the PU, dont think there is anything to worry about as they dont want ships to feel redundant, but they have also made it clear they dont want any player ship being the jack of all trades go to ship for anything and everything, otherwise everyone will just fly the same ship, hence most ships are specialized and if not, not the best at what they do, this is designed to encourage ship player variety long-term.

The Polaris can fit over 50 different ships (individually)(some smaller ones can fit together) in the hangar (up to Argo Raft/Apollo size) and all current land vehicles in the cargo bay. This will be a great all around ship that will allow my org to perform many tasks and jobs(hospital, mining, search and rescue, bounty hunting, ground missions, ect). We will use it as our mobile base and it will protect our assets. Its supposed to get an increase to its size from 155m up to 199m apparently so thankfully ill have an even bigger version. I cant stop thinking about the possibilities. Also if you raise the landing pad you can land ships that wouldve been too big inside the hangar and drop off troops or personel. I think it could come out soon after server meshing as it fills more roles than the 890 and it is smaller than the 890. I dont see the crew requirements as a problem either.

not that interested in ships bigger then a hammerhead currently, no plans to run a big org currently and since we dont know exactly how npc crew etc will perform vs real players on average or in general, its a bit of a gamble to invest in something on the larger scale or for any "advertised" features... hence with medical beds = i did not touch anything based on if or what medical facilities it has or doesnt, as its way to early be determined what ship will or wont have and what degree, simply put things have changed and can still change, ultimately medical gameplay is a intended loop = so they will be balancing things so not every man and his dog has a medical bed in their ship, especially one that does everything, but obviously some ships will need to be a exception, as it would otherwise make no sense for a large exploration ship to head of exploring into the unknown, yet has to head back to a station evertime someone takes a bullet.
and at then end of the day if i change my mind i can just buy in game at that point, so buying with real $$$ is just investing/backing the development, i dont see it as a definitive advantage in game, so outside supporting development, dont see the point in spending lots of $$$ when it doesnt benefit me ingame now or long-term.
untill they finalize some of the medical and AI side of things related to ships, im going to keep things within the hammerhead realm, much to early to invest in anything big if inclined to do so to get specific ship features as some elements may change or no longer be what u wanted, though a buff is also possible as well.

ship building is being streamlined gradually, so basically the process starts slow, gets faster as they standardize/implement features that go into the ships, otherwise designers have to guess if their design will work, hence old designs have seen significant changes in order to fit the visible ship modules, include the added internal ship gameplay loops from ship boarding, medical, repairs, visible storage/cargo etc etc and other modularity/customization/optimization factors.
in other words future proofing = good dev design.
initially though this means things will be slow, since its an alpha and many things arent in yet = very hard to streamline for future "changes", so they are basically trying to streamline them for what they have implemented, plan to implement and with some future proofing in mind as well.
this also means you dont really want to get the big ships out the door first, until more of what makes a ship has been implemented and is not expected to change.
but because they have been working towards this, ship development time is going down rapidly and actually they could be pumping them out pretty fast if they didnt divert staff to focus on other things and we could even have the big ships in already for players to pilot, but doing so would result in them probably needing a "update" a year latter, like some of the early ships have received = more work, that could have been skipped if they just released the ship latter when these things had already been streamlined part of ship design...
but they needed to get some ships out the gate before they streamlined these things, since its designed to be played by backers while in development, so a unavoidable issue, which they handled pretty well and why big ships are delayed "intentionally".
any big ship will have a big effect on gameplay as well, so there is allot for them to consider for game balancing, but u can see in the most recent concept ships, allot of the design is less "space fantasy design" and more practical to what u would expect to see and fly ingame while still looking good, because again they have streamlined allot of stuff, so designers have something more solid as a foundation to work from when making concepts, that wont need to be changed during the build process.
plus big ships = resource drain on servers and end user rigs = another good reason to wait till post server meshing when the servers can handle all the data, because a big ship is like dozens of small ships... and with the server caps currently = a pretty dumb idea, they could increase the severs/bandwidth etc = costs lots of money, many things are missing to make cap ship gameplay fun.
like the 890 jump, most just fly it around to look good or "lets see what fits" vids.
and same applies for your computer, optimization normally takes place late beta, but they have to do some pre-optimization to make allot of this stuff even work at all, so its also important to release things at the right time between other implementations, so ur not basically wasting main power to re-optimize the same thing every patch, due to there being to many changes.
again big ships will = a heavy load on your rig when all the bells and whistles and going and ships are screaming around shooting, so again why they are intentionally delayed with post server meshing in mind, they dont want to many big ships in before then, but still a few to stress test things and give players something to drool over.
so i dont expect to see anything solid in terms of mass production of big ships until 2024-25, but once they get server side things in, you will start to see big ships rolling out pretty quick to fill the gameplay loops were needed and increased variety, before they trickle out again and focus more on cosmetics.
plus allot of the ship scale and release schedule will also depend on the final pop count for servers eg the higher the server pop count = the faster they will release big ships... again why they are intentionally being held back now, though this also means their quality on release will also be better.
      food for thought.

So , this is a really cool ship. BUT there's a reason I don't even have the $25 SCU upgrade from another ship I got a chain to, to this one.
And that's partially because of my bank account, but ALSO because this ship is a different beast.
You won't be able to log off easily without planning to. Because it'll likely stay online, right? It doesn't fit in any hangar to log off and despawn the ship. That's a big deal to me. You will always have to keep this ship in the back of your mind, you can't ever just put it aside. (I suppose you could rent it out to other people when you're not playing.)
And the crew size requirements go from around 4 to around 8 when you step it up to a Polaris. And that may be very exciting to lots of people, but I don't want to have that kind of responsibility or to organize all that.
So as cool as this ship sounds... I feel like it's basically out of my league just because of the amount of attention that I imagine the Polaris demands.

On top of the shitshow that has been E:D's monetization and development, there's a very high chance that the investor(parasite) controlled Frontier will just drop the entire franchise or sell it out to some other studio for dirt cheap.
Almost everything that has happened to Elite since the first DLC is easily because of Investors making ever increasing and ever more unrealistic demands of Elite:Dangerous. The chance of them always demanding infinite returns approaches infinity the longer they are involved. Now it's last few updates have been Freighters that you rent for insane amounts of cash, Monopoly Money ARX, a reduction in buying power with it for cosmetics, a meta-shifting nerf to the only thing that makes money (Mining), and a trend-tracking FPS with all the infamous grind-and-guess that E:D has been suffering from since forever, and tons of obscene balance issues and glaring bugs and shortcomings.

Probably wont buy any ships again because I dont see the point. You grind buy nice ships than RSI is coming with wipe update and you lose everything. What is the point of the game then?

Great another ship... they must be earning less money, they raised the prices for the other ships and now are focusing on big ships, i guess they need the whales to pay thousands of dollars for this

@@votpavel who cares? They should be focusing on the game on releasing the features they promised, but of course making ships to sell is more important dont worry when the old ships are done he will release new ones and new versions of the old ones everyone will love and say its the best game ever even though 90% of promissed is missing and on road to 10 years in alpha
