@@MonteKristof You’re completely right! I tend to forget that for comparison, the Javelin only has 4 size 8 cannons as its main guns, and that’s the largest ship in the game! The Polaris is a really deadly shark, but The Merchantman is going to be a serious heavyweight brawler! I suspect it’ll be a ship that provides some extra power in a fleet/engagement but isn’t taking/trading the biggest hits itself 👍
I have one of these and am super excited to see it arrive in game. I love ships that can carry other ships! One element that is often overlooked though is how much crew will be needed to man it. It has A LOT of turrets. Hopefully AI crew won't be too expensive, but I don't place much stock in their aiming ability if the Xenothreat Javelin is anything to go by. Thanks for the video mate. Wasn't a fan of the dramatic voiceover though.. "number 5" a few tones lower... just my taste.

This ship doesn't have heavy armor btw, that's what makes it so agile for it's size. The Perseus will have heavy armor though. Unless Anvil drops a sub capital to capital ship on us this is definitely my go to ship for several encounters.
You’re right, this ship won’t be as heavily armored as the Perseus, but this ship will likely have heavy armor! I suspect all large ships (with some exceptions) will gain armor sufficient to ignore most sub S1/2/3 weapons (depending on their armor class). While granted, the Perseus may be able to ignore everything sub S4, I still think the Polaris will be heavily armored, at least compared to the other ships/current gameplay (where no ships have armor). The polaris has "light capital armour" which is better than heavy armour. Bit confusing but then again cig has never been very good at explaining stuff like that.
I'll be honest. For me, how a ship looks is at least as big a determining factor in weather I get it as it's usefulness. The Polaris is just a badass ship in both catagories, so I picked it up as one of the first small cap ships I ever bought. I know some don't consider a Corvette a cap ship, so I guess "small" cap ship may not even be an appropriate label. Anyway, she's friggin gorgeous and so flexible, I think I'll name her after some beautiful gymnast woman. I have to say that the Perseus is tempting, as it looks pretty dang cool too, but for now at least I've decided to pass on it. If I give in to the temptress that she is however, you will know it's me if you see a Perseus in game named "Delilah". :D Another great video Vici! Thanks!
Thank you so much! And I agree as well, if I don’t like the aesthetics of a ship I just won’t enjoy flying it. But thankfully there’s very few ships and star citizen that turned me off. And the Perseus and Polaris are just so gorgeous, it’s hard not to throw money at them haha. But even at a Corvette size, I fully see the Polaris as a capital class ship even if it’s not technically listed as one! I’m still building out my CCU chains, so it will be a long while before another big ship purchase, but these two are definitely top on my radar right now! And that Perseus especially catches my eye. There’s just something so aggressive yet sleek about it, like a refined star destroyer 👌

Video was upload before IAE. Now its confirmed also a Upgrade to the weapons and Components - now Capital Parts all over the place. Not only Powerplant and Radar, But also now Coolers and Shields. Special last one. One Large Shield have "just" 100k - a Industrial Grade A Cap have 774k - a Mil Grade A sure over 800k - so 8! times a Large shield. With the XS hangar for up to a Scorpius about 180-190m large.Also one use - Mobile Base: Land, start Snubs from the Upper hangar, Defense - most turrets are up, Medbay for recover and respawn ground troops, 216SCU or a Nova Tank? A2 have the same Cargo hold or a Nova. Or 2-3 Cyclones. And when you done - logout. No Base to protect. I think a huge +++.
These updates make this ship incredibly powerful, and really maximize its potential for a wide variety of roles; including the ones that you listed! Especially the increase in that shield size from a large to capital really gives the Polaris an incredible amount of survivability! Picked up a CCU at last year's IAE. If I use it, the Polaris will be the largest ship in my fleet next to the Orion. I feel this ship will be well suited for Pyro so long as the fuel scoops can replenish the fuel tanks quick enough. I love that your choice of small ship to include in the hanger can vary, allowing you to focus your support in many directions. Bring a Gladius for combat support, a 315p for utility/exploration, a Legionar (if it fits) for boarding and crew transport, etc. Making the choice of escort craft as important as your personal gear loadout.
Congratulations on the pickup, and I agree this ship will be well-suited for Pyro with its long range! And only adding to that utility is the versatility and choice of ship within its hangar, you can pick whatever best suits your needs!

Hahaha, the inevitable struggle that all Star Citizen backers must face in their journey! But, you could always earn this in game! Although I suspect if you’re like me in this regard, you’re probably interested from a cash buy perspective. And I can only imagine how much these ships will cost in-game, so they’re not bad values in that regard! Although it’s still hundreds of dollars and not cheap by any regard! Honestly if it wasn’t for warbond discounts and CCUs, I couldn’t have afforded the Merchantman, but glad I finally saved up and pulled the trigger last Alien week! So fingers crossed, I’m going into IAE this year with a big schedule of CCUs trying to hopefully get some savings built out for bigger ships way down the line 😅👍

I have the Polaris and Perseus for org play, they also make a great pair in a fight. A Polaris and a Hammerhead will also be a solid combo. The Polaris will be a great mobile base/flag ship for a Pirate or Merc org.

I bought one of those packs with 6 ships and have slowly been upgrading them, I know have the Polaris, Perseus, BMM, that Xwing like fighter, Vulture, and hammerhead. No Idea which I'll like best. Once Ai crewmates is a thing these ships will be fun for everyone, not just those with big groups of friends

I know they want a player as the captain for each of the ships, but you could theoretically have blades and NPC for the rest of the crew! I have a 600i but was wondering about upgrading it to a Polaris? I mainly plan to play solo, so I was wondering if the Polaris can be flown solo (especially if I'm just into exploration)? I also have a Prospector, so am interested in the video's speculation that it might fit in the Polaris. Does anyone know when the Polaris will be flyable?
@@AndrewJens Unfortunately no one knows exactly when the Polaris will be available, although I’m hoping it will be ready by the end of next year or the beginning of the following! I think operating it solo would be difficult, but certainly not impossible! Especially if they plan on having NPCs function in the way they intend. But I do suspect that’ll be costly, although finding even a few players to jump in and help crew shouldn’t be too hard! If the UEE will employ mercenaries on military campaigns, the Polaris will likely be a really good vessel for a small organization to use for taking part in such missions. It brings sustainability to take on multiple campaigns in a row without returning to a station or civilized planet. It has all the facilities needed to support a small group of players, like a medical bay, cafeteria for nutrition and hydration, cargo space for loot and supplies, hygiene, and even recreational options to pass the time. It can strike large targets with huge torpedoes, and it can defend against small targets with the PDW turrets. The hangar really just allows a lot of versatility for different operations. It could be used for a salvage ship for maximum loot profit. It could be used for a landing/boarding craft to send marines to take over a target ship/station/outpost. It could be used to house a fighter for defending the ship, like a Hurricane or a Scorpius would be perfect for hovering around the Polaris to defend it from enemy fighters and bombers.
I absolutely agree, and cannot wait for the implementation of these loops in game, it’s going to be freaking EPIC! I imagine the Polaris will be fantastic for chaining missions together, and when the missions take on a dynamic turn! I imagine that CIG will implement more gameplay like theatres of war in game, using dynamic events to bring players from space combat, to the ground, or even supply runs during it. And the Polaris is primed to excel at them all 👌
I just really hope this ship can be used somewhat effectively with a 4-6 man crew as a base of operations and a "mothership". Like mainly that would mean some kind of ability to dedicate turrets to AI blades. Or the ability to have like half of the turrets slaved to one remote turret operator, and another half to a second turret operator. That way, you could have a pilot/captain, a mechanic, a fighter pilot, and 1-2 turret operators. And ofc it shouldn't be as effective as with full human crew, a gunner for each turret, multiple mechanics to make the ship last longer in battle. Maybe loading the torpedoes should require crew, so with a skeleton crew you only have the loaded 4 shots of torpedoes in a fight, but with a full crew they can reload the tubes in combat.
I think you should definitely be able run the Perseus with 4-6 crew effectively! The 6-14 rating on this ship is definitely for most efficiency, but even with other ships in game, that recommended number is often overlooked. While the game is still in development and not all systems are properly implemented, I think most players will be running their operations with NPC and blades to fill most roles, so I suspect you’ll be good! Most backers have fleets of massive multi crew ships, with no live players to run them; they may have plenty of friends, but they all have big multi crew ships as well 😅 CIG is keenly aware of this, and I think we’ll see a lot more involvement of AI in our fleets by release! So you should be good!!!
@@ViciDeum Yeah, it's not like I even own a huge ship atm, but I was planning to maybe upgrade to the Polaris in the next sale event. And like I personally don't want to see everyone driving huge ships solo. But more like a smaller group of friends being able to run a ship together as a tight crew. Kinda like in Expanse, if you have ever seen the show. The gun turrets on the ship are automated, but the crew pilots the ship and manually fires torpedoes, there's a mechanic, an engineer, and a dedicated meathead space marine. Well, this should be possible, as long as we can eventually slave multiple turrets under the aim of one gunner, or automate the turrets with AI and have one player switch the modes. Like deciding what kind of targets the turrets will fire at, if at all.
what is best between the polaris and the carrack ? is it better to have the polaris than the carrack or to have them both because the polaris can do everything the carrack does without being an exploration ship.
Lord_83, this is a fantastic question and I really appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and leave this comment! I think there are several benefits that the Carrack has over the Polaris. First, the Carrack requires a smaller crew size, has more cargo, offers a smaller profile (which means a less visible target) and is likely more agile in atmosphere! Plus, the Carrack has drones which it can deploy to self-heal, as well as assist in exploration or mining! Plus, the Carrack has a much lower cost to run than the Polaris. But, if you have the crew capacity and need the capability then I think the Polaris can make a great addition given that larger crew complement 👍
It deppends what you want.. carrack is good ship samé as polaris. You should question yourself what do you want Focus on, if combat go for polaris, if exploration And hauling go for carrack. If you like Torps And missiles polaris Is better pick, carrack dont Have missiles either pilot operated guns.. those two ships Are pretty simmilar in matter of stuff you can with them, both should Have Medical bay, both can Carry another ship And land vehicle i think. Both Have Cargo. Polaris would posibly be able to Explore too since it should be patrol ship, but carrack Will be better in that case i think.. And As vici mendioned, for polaris you Will need more crew. So you Have to decide on what exactly you want to be focused And what other ships you Have:) combat? Polaris! Exploration And hauling? Than carrack. Besides this the ships Are very similar. Carrack just Have drones As adition:)
@@ViciDeum Plus it has the modular cargo pods, which will add mission variety. Though so far all we've seen is a super early concept of deployable small outpost buildings, so we don't really know what the modules will be.

I believe one of the devs mentioned that each torp of the Polaris would cost around the same as buying an Avenger Titan. Can't remember what ISC that was, though. So that's, what, 800k per torp? I honestly don't mind. It forces players who own large, costly ships like that to also grind. You'd have to have some money makers like the Vulture, Prospector, Mole, Reclaimer or similar to provide necessary funds to operate these larger ships. Kind of a cool idea.
I got one as it will be my main commanding ship in my fleet. Il put my scorpius inside of it as well. I got also 2 BMM's (cuz S8 guns and 2 fighters ;) ) together with a redeemer for extra security options to protect my fleet. I think it is decent security for my fleet..unless there is a full on invasion going on :))
The Polaris is a great ship to launch your command station from, and I doubt you’ll have little trouble guarding that armada! Congratulations on those pickups, it’s an impressive fleet!
@@ViciDeum that is just the security part of the fleet. There still some other ships in there (cruci, 2 endeavors, carrack, starfarer, msr, genesis starliner, reclaimer and orion) :)

I love this idea, fitting a dropship within the Polaris as a carrier! You really get to leverage the full utility out of this ship, with both ground warfare and some amazing distance capabilities in those torps! And that is unfortunately a difficult question to answer; as they unfortunately removed this ship from the roadmap! As a result, and given its (likely) reliance on server meshing, I expect to see the Polaris sometime around Q2 of 2023! That said, I think we could see it as soon as the end of 2022, but I don’t think it’s far enough along in production nor supported by enough other features to be pushed out much earlier than that. im figuring out if i can maybe park a spartan in that cargo bay area,and maybe even a nova tank along with it.What i cant decide is what freaking ship to use for its hangar, i want something versatile with some space inside but everything seems to be too large
It’ll definitely be interesting to see what fits once they get more of the grey boxing done! A Pisces will definitely fit while still allowing plenty of other room onboard, but I imagine several others could work as well 😁👍
Didn't even hesitate between the perseus and the polaris: the polaris is the better (for me) version of the carrack, so i bought it and will keep the carrack because i love both 😂 Hope for it to comenout soon(tm) 😂

I knew I had to get it the moment I saw it. Yes, the fact it's primary armament is torpedoes does limit it somewhat, but it has plenty of turrets to make up for it which can handle most enemies handily. Especially since I'm willing to bet the chin turret is going to get a size boost, dual Size 5's never seemed right for a military ship it's size, one that really needs a proper secondary offensive system to compliment it's torpedoes. That and the Perseus has quad S7 guns, the Polaris should at least have two.
Even though it’s primary armament is torpedoes, the Polaris really brings a lot of utility to its platform; turrets, onboard amenities and the hangar. I think you’ll really get a lot of good uses from it! And congratulations on this pickup as well 👍

I got my HH-Polaris CCU at ILW, now just waiting for the BMMs' price to increase. I'm guessing this IAE will be the last chance to upgrade a BMM to some ship below a Polaris if the BMM's price rises to $650 (probably no WB CCU at IAE like last year), because it'll probably be $750 ($700 WB) at next year's Alien Week, assuming it releases then. So hopefully at this year's IAE we'll see a WB CCU from the BMM to the Polaris or to another ship between the BMM and Polaris for those of us who want to bailout on our extra BMMs. I'm playing the CCU game, so I'm trying to get the Polaris for $300 or less 😆

Timothy Short, unfortunately this ship is one that’s “limited.” Unfortunately there are several ships, especially the largest ones, that are only available for purchase at select times throughout the year. Thankfully, there are several time when the Polaris is made available, with the next sale in a week during IAE! This is one of a few times you can purchase this ship! And, you can even purchase a CCU to this ship, for about $50! That locks in its current price and reserves the ship (as long as you don’t melt that upgrade) so you don’t even have to pay the full amount! With that said, you wouldn’t get the ship’s loaners to use in game (what they give out for ships not let released), but you’d stave several hundreds! But either way, definitely check out RSI Day at IAE from November 28th-29th! And thankfully, this ship isn’t Hull limited as before; where they only ever released a small amount each sale. And that mine gameplay Will be interesting, this ship Will definetly be a must Have fór protection of some valuable targets like bases, valuable asteroid Fields etc.. or in case of some Fleet fight between corps prepare the mine Field And just lead the other corp into them by some bait. I see them as the tank, mage and bard of the group! Dishing out damage up close, throwing fireballs, and spells of protection! And with such unique and useful combat styles that each of them bring! I just love the idea of surrounding my endeavors with a Nautilus minefield, so that I can just tend to gardening or manufacturing edibles in peace 😂👍

The Polaris really is an excellent ship! It offers a lot of utility in an aggressive long-distance attacker, as long as you’re okay giving up 200 or so SCU of cargo over the Carrack! But with the extra quarters for the snub fighter, a brig and more, its got plenty to offer in exchange! Now the Kraken would be excellent in addition to either, as I see that ship primarily useful for large groups of people, whereas a smaller crew could run the Polaris and (even smaller) on the Carrack! But I do see your dilemma, as they’re all rather fantastic haha. While I’m not sure if I’ll be able to help your decision, I do really appreciate you taking the time to watch this video and share your thoughts!

I agree when compared to other capital ships, but I was referring to its armor in comparison to the overall star citizen ship lineup. In that regard, this ship (as a military capital ship) will be heavily armored compared to the majority of ships/fighters in-verse; which can currently take out large ships (like the HH) due to these armor states not being properly implemented! Although I agree with its slated role as a more maneuverable “less armored” capital military ship (when compared to the Idris, Javelin, etc). Hmm i think it isnt about when you get it. Cause you 100% will this game just wants to be the best it can be and unlike other games wich release and get forgotten about. This game uses cutting edge technology and programs. They are trying to fix the game/expand it/and try and keep the game relevant at the same time. Also its been said around a thousand times,you dont buy a ship you give a certain amount of backer money and get a ship in return. And if they are the worst developers well... look at rockstar and cd project red and then look at this game... you get exactly whats promised here

What are you talking about? I’ve backed this project for over 8 years and it’s been almost 5+ since we’ve had meaningful gameplay. There’s plenty to do in the verse from combat to mining, racing and more. While a lot of features are still in development, I constantly enjoy playing this game for its immersion and amazing flight mode, great first person and look forward to a lot of what’s already been implemented. You’re pledging to support Chris’ vision. If you don’t like his timeline, don’t put more money into this project. But you aren’t a shareholder, you aren’t making an investment and you’re in no position of power to demand anything.

@@MonteKristof You’re completely right! I tend to forget that for comparison, the Javelin only has 4 size 8 cannons as its main guns, and that’s the largest ship in the game! The Polaris is a really deadly shark, but The Merchantman is going to be a serious heavyweight brawler! I suspect it’ll be a ship that provides some extra power in a fleet/engagement but isn’t taking/trading the biggest hits itself 👍
I have one of these and am super excited to see it arrive in game. I love ships that can carry other ships! One element that is often overlooked though is how much crew will be needed to man it. It has A LOT of turrets. Hopefully AI crew won't be too expensive, but I don't place much stock in their aiming ability if the Xenothreat Javelin is anything to go by. Thanks for the video mate. Wasn't a fan of the dramatic voiceover though.. "number 5" a few tones lower... just my taste.

This ship doesn't have heavy armor btw, that's what makes it so agile for it's size. The Perseus will have heavy armor though. Unless Anvil drops a sub capital to capital ship on us this is definitely my go to ship for several encounters.
You’re right, this ship won’t be as heavily armored as the Perseus, but this ship will likely have heavy armor! I suspect all large ships (with some exceptions) will gain armor sufficient to ignore most sub S1/2/3 weapons (depending on their armor class).
While granted, the Perseus may be able to ignore everything sub S4, I still think the Polaris will be heavily armored, at least compared to the other ships/current gameplay (where no ships have armor). And I agree, I think this ship makes an excellent go to for a variety of encounters!

The polaris has "light capital armour" which is better than heavy armour. Bit confusing but then again cig has never been very good at explaining stuff like that.
I'll be honest. For me, how a ship looks is at least as big a determining factor in weather I get it as it's usefulness. The Polaris is just a badass ship in both catagories, so I picked it up as one of the first small cap ships I ever bought. I know some don't consider a Corvette a cap ship, so I guess "small" cap ship may not even be an appropriate label. Anyway, she's friggin gorgeous and so flexible, I think I'll name her after some beautiful gymnast woman. I have to say that the Perseus is tempting, as it looks pretty dang cool too, but for now at least I've decided to pass on it. If I give in to the temptress that she is however, you will know it's me if you see a Perseus in game named "Delilah". :D

And the Perseus and Polaris are just so gorgeous, it’s hard not to throw money at them haha. But even at a Corvette size, I fully see the Polaris as a capital class ship even if it’s not technically listed as one!
I’m still building out my CCU chains, so it will be a long while before another big ship purchase, but these two are definitely top on my radar right now! And that Perseus especially catches my eye. There’s just something so aggressive yet sleek about it, like a refined star destroyer 👌

Video was upload before IAE. Now its confirmed also a Upgrade to the weapons and Components - now Capital Parts all over the place. Not only Powerplant and Radar, But also now Coolers and Shields. Special last one. One Large Shield have "just" 100k - a Industrial Grade A Cap have 774k - a Mil Grade A sure over 800k - so 8! times a Large shield. With the XS hangar for up to a Scorpius about 180-190m large.Also one use - Mobile Base: Land, start Snubs from the Upper hangar, Defense - most turrets are up, Medbay for recover and respawn ground troops, 216SCU or a Nova Tank? A2 have the same Cargo hold or a Nova. Or 2-3 Cyclones. And when you done - logout. No Base to protect. I think a huge +++.
These updates make this ship incredibly powerful, and really maximize its potential for a wide variety of roles; including the ones that you listed! Especially the increase in that shield size from a large to capital really gives the Polaris an incredible amount of survivability!

Picked up a CCU at last year's IAE. If I use it, the Polaris will be the largest ship in my fleet next to the Orion.
I feel this ship will be well suited for Pyro so long as the fuel scoops can replenish the fuel tanks quick enough.
I love that your choice of small ship to include in the hanger can vary, allowing you to focus your support in many directions.
Bring a Gladius for combat support, a 315p for utility/exploration, a Legionar (if it fits) for boarding and crew transport, etc. Making the choice of escort craft as important as your personal gear loadout.
Congratulations on the pickup, and I agree this ship will be well-suited for Pyro with its long range! And only adding to that utility is the versatility and choice of ship within its hangar, you can pick whatever best suits your needs!

Hahaha, the inevitable struggle that all Star Citizen backers must face in their journey! But, you could always earn this in game! Although I suspect if you’re like me in this regard, you’re probably interested from a cash buy perspective. And I can only imagine how much these ships will cost in-game, so they’re not bad values in that regard!
Although it’s still hundreds of dollars and not cheap by any regard! Honestly if it wasn’t for warbond discounts and CCUs, I couldn’t have afforded the Merchantman, but glad I finally saved up and pulled the trigger last Alien week!
So fingers crossed, I’m going into IAE this year with a big schedule of CCUs trying to hopefully get some savings built out for bigger ships way down the line 😅👍

I have the Polaris and Perseus for org play, they also make a great pair in a fight. A Polaris and a Hammerhead will also be a solid combo. The Polaris will be a great mobile base/flag ship for a Pirate or Merc org.

I bought one of those packs with 6 ships and have slowly been upgrading them, I know have the Polaris, Perseus, BMM, that Xwing like fighter, Vulture, and hammerhead. No Idea which I'll like best. Once Ai crewmates is a thing these ships will be fun for everyone, not just those with big groups of friends
Yshomatsu, that sounds like one incredible fleet you’re building over there! The Polaris, Perseus and Hammerhead will make such a deadly synergy combined together! And I agree, I’m looking forward to AI NPC improvements for this as well! They say in the universe it should be populated 9:1 NPC to player. I know they want a player as the captain for each of the ships, but you could theoretically have blades and NPC for the rest of the crew!

I have a 600i but was wondering about upgrading it to a Polaris? I mainly plan to play solo, so I was wondering if the Polaris can be flown solo (especially if I'm just into exploration)? I also have a Prospector, so am interested in the video's speculation that it might fit in the Polaris. Does anyone know when the Polaris will be flyable?
@@AndrewJens Unfortunately no one knows exactly when the Polaris will be available, although I’m hoping it will be ready by the end of next year or the beginning of the following! I think operating it solo would be difficult, but certainly not impossible! Especially if they plan on having NPCs function in the way they intend. But I do suspect that’ll be costly, although finding even a few players to jump in and help crew shouldn’t be too hard!

If the UEE will employ mercenaries on military campaigns, the Polaris will likely be a really good vessel for a small organization to use for taking part in such missions.
It brings sustainability to take on multiple campaigns in a row without returning to a station or civilized planet. It has all the facilities needed to support a small group of players, like a medical bay, cafeteria for nutrition and hydration, cargo space for loot and supplies, hygiene, and even recreational options to pass the time.
It can strike large targets with huge torpedoes, and it can defend against small targets with the PDW turrets. The hangar really just allows a lot of versatility for different operations. It could be used for a salvage ship for maximum loot profit. It could be used for a landing/boarding craft to send marines to take over a target ship/station/outpost. It could be used to house a fighter for defending the ship, like a Hurricane or a Scorpius would be perfect for hovering around the Polaris to defend it from enemy fighters and bombers.
I absolutely agree, and cannot wait for the implementation of these loops in game, it’s going to be freaking EPIC! I imagine the Polaris will be fantastic for chaining missions together, and when the missions take on a dynamic turn!
I imagine that CIG will implement more gameplay like theatres of war in game, using dynamic events to bring players from space combat, to the ground, or even supply runs during it. And the Polaris is primed to excel at them all 👌
I just really hope this ship can be used somewhat effectively with a 4-6 man crew as a base of operations and a "mothership".
Like mainly that would mean some kind of ability to dedicate turrets to AI blades. Or the ability to have like half of the turrets slaved to one remote turret operator, and another half to a second turret operator.
That way, you could have a pilot/captain, a mechanic, a fighter pilot, and 1-2 turret operators.
And ofc it shouldn't be as effective as with full human crew, a gunner for each turret, multiple mechanics to make the ship last longer in battle. Maybe loading the torpedoes should require crew, so with a skeleton crew you only have the loaded 4 shots of torpedoes in a fight, but with a full crew they can reload the tubes in combat.
I think you should definitely be able run the Perseus with 4-6 crew effectively! The 6-14 rating on this ship is definitely for most efficiency, but even with other ships in game, that recommended number is often overlooked.
While the game is still in development and not all systems are properly implemented, I think most players will be running their operations with NPC and blades to fill most roles, so I suspect you’ll be good!
Most backers have fleets of massive multi crew ships, with no live players to run them; they may have plenty of friends, but they all have big multi crew ships as well 😅 CIG is keenly aware of this, and I think we’ll see a lot more involvement of AI in our fleets by release! So you should be good!!!
@@ViciDeum Yeah, it's not like I even own a huge ship atm, but I was planning to maybe upgrade to the Polaris in the next sale event.
And like I personally don't want to see everyone driving huge ships solo. But more like a smaller group of friends being able to run a ship together as a tight crew. Kinda like in Expanse, if you have ever seen the show. The gun turrets on the ship are automated, but the crew pilots the ship and manually fires torpedoes, there's a mechanic, an engineer, and a dedicated meathead space marine.
Well, this should be possible, as long as we can eventually slave multiple turrets under the aim of one gunner, or automate the turrets with AI and have one player switch the modes. Like deciding what kind of targets the turrets will fire at, if at all.
what is best between the polaris and the carrack ? is it better to have the polaris than the carrack or to have them both because the polaris can do everything the carrack does without being an exploration ship.
Lord_83, this is a fantastic question and I really appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and leave this comment! I think there are several benefits that the Carrack has over the Polaris.
First, the Carrack requires a smaller crew size, has more cargo, offers a smaller profile (which means a less visible target) and is likely more agile in atmosphere!
Plus, the Carrack has drones which it can deploy to self-heal, as well as assist in exploration or mining! Plus, the Carrack has a much lower cost to run than the Polaris. But, if you have the crew capacity and need the capability then I think the Polaris can make a great addition given that larger crew complement 👍
It deppends what you want.. carrack is good ship samé as polaris. You should question yourself what do you want Focus on, if combat go for polaris, if exploration And hauling go for carrack. If you like Torps And missiles polaris Is better pick, carrack dont Have missiles either pilot operated guns.. those two ships Are pretty simmilar in matter of stuff you can with them, both should Have Medical bay, both can Carry another ship And land vehicle i think. Both Have Cargo. Polaris would posibly be able to Explore too since it should be patrol ship, but carrack Will be better in that case i think.. And As vici mendioned, for polaris you Will need more crew. So you Have to decide on what exactly you want to be focused And what other ships you Have:) combat? Polaris! Exploration And hauling? Than carrack. Besides this the ships Are very similar. Carrack just Have drones As adition:)

Though so far all we've seen is a super early concept of deployable small outpost buildings, so we don't really know what the modules will be.

I believe one of the devs mentioned that each torp of the Polaris would cost around the same as buying an Avenger Titan. Can't remember what ISC that was, though. So that's, what, 800k per torp? I honestly don't mind. It forces players who own large, costly ships like that to also grind. You'd have to have some money makers like the Vulture, Prospector, Mole, Reclaimer or similar to provide necessary funds to operate these larger ships. Kind of a cool idea.
I missed this, but it makes sense they would be expensive, and it would help to deter careless missile spam!
I got one as it will be my main commanding ship in my fleet. Il put my scorpius inside of it as well. I got also 2 BMM's (cuz S8 guns and 2 fighters ;) ) together with a redeemer for extra security options to protect my fleet. I think it is decent security for my fleet..unless there is a full on invasion going on :))
The Polaris is a great ship to launch your command station from, and I doubt you’ll have little trouble guarding that armada! Congratulations on those pickups, it’s an impressive fleet!
@@ViciDeum that is just the security part of the fleet. There still some other ships in there (cruci, 2 endeavors, carrack, starfarer, msr, genesis starliner, reclaimer and orion) :)

Get a aegis vanguard/dropship and you can ferry suplies from the ground to your ship or deploy troops on the ground or on a station.
I love this idea, fitting a dropship within the Polaris as a carrier! You really get to leverage the full utility out of this ship, with both ground warfare and some amazing distance capabilities in those torps!

Alain A, thank you so much for these kind words, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! And that is unfortunately a difficult question to answer; as they unfortunately removed this ship from the roadmap!
As a result, and given its (likely) reliance on server meshing, I expect to see the Polaris sometime around Q2 of 2023! That said, I think we could see it as soon as the end of 2022, but I don’t think it’s far enough along in production nor supported by enough other features to be pushed out much earlier than that.

I already have a Polaris and prob gonna grab a Perseus as well this IAE. One thing's for sure......when all player cap ships and AI slaves are in game, the battles will be legendary.

im figuring out if i can maybe park a spartan in that cargo bay area,and maybe even a nova tank along with it.What i cant decide is what freaking ship to use for its hangar, i want something versatile with some space inside but everything seems to be too large
It’ll definitely be interesting to see what fits once they get more of the grey boxing done! A Pisces will definitely fit while still allowing plenty of other room onboard, but I imagine several others could work as well 😁👍
Didn't even hesitate between the perseus and the polaris: the polaris is the better (for me) version of the carrack, so i bought it and will keep the carrack because i love both 😂 Hope for it to comenout soon(tm) 😂

The Holy Trinity: Carrack, Merchantman, Polaris. Though im leaning Perseus over Polaris cause it is so sexy looking and i love the top rear bridge
Perseus has a way lower crew requirement
I knew I had to get it the moment I saw it. Yes, the fact it's primary armament is torpedoes does limit it somewhat, but it has plenty of turrets to make up for it which can handle most enemies handily. Especially since I'm willing to bet the chin turret is going to get a size boost, dual Size 5's never seemed right for a military ship it's size, one that really needs a proper secondary offensive system to compliment it's torpedoes. That and the Perseus has quad S7 guns, the Polaris should at least have two.
Even though it’s primary armament is torpedoes, the Polaris really brings a lot of utility to its platform; turrets, onboard amenities and the hangar. I think you’ll really get a lot of good uses from it! And congratulations on this pickup as well 👍
It is probably at least 3 large shields as shown in the brochure clip. With a good chance of getting buffed further. Never trust the matrix of lives.

I got my HH-Polaris CCU at ILW, now just waiting for the BMMs' price to increase. I'm guessing this IAE will be the last chance to upgrade a BMM to some ship below a Polaris if the BMM's price rises to $650 (probably no WB CCU at IAE like last year), because it'll probably be $750 ($700 WB) at next year's Alien Week, assuming it releases then. So hopefully at this year's IAE we'll see a WB CCU from the BMM to the Polaris or to another ship between the BMM and Polaris for those of us who want to bailout on our extra BMMs. I'm playing the CCU game, so I'm trying to get the Polaris for $300 or less 😆

Timothy Short, unfortunately this ship is one that’s “limited.” Unfortunately there are several ships, especially the largest ones, that are only available for purchase at select times throughout the year. Thankfully, there are several time when the Polaris is made available, with the next sale in a week during IAE!
This is one of a few times you can purchase this ship! And, you can even purchase a CCU to this ship, for about $50! That locks in its current price and reserves the ship (as long as you don’t melt that upgrade) so you don’t even have to pay the full amount!
With that said, you wouldn’t get the ship’s loaners to use in game (what they give out for ships not let released), but you’d stave several hundreds!
But either way, definitely check out RSI Day at IAE from November 28th-29th! And thankfully, this ship isn’t Hull limited as before; where they only ever released a small amount each sale. Now you can buy it without an F5 war!

I love the look of both but man Nautilus Is just sick! And that mine gameplay Will be interesting, this ship Will definetly be a must Have fór protection of some valuable targets like bases, valuable asteroid Fields etc.. or in case of some Fleet fight between corps prepare the mine Field And just lead the other corp into them by some bait. And with such unique and useful combat styles that each of them bring! I just love the idea of surrounding my endeavors with a Nautilus minefield, so that I can just tend to gardening or manufacturing edibles in peace 😂👍

Honestly the sheer size and magnitude of this ship has always intimidated me, so I’ve never researched much into it. But while I’m starting off without much knowledge on this Goliath, I’m really excited for this learning opportunity 👍

pffff i've been eyeing up the kraken for so long now...and wanting to get me a carrack to expand my experience with star citizen but that polaris is looking so sexy. i just want a vessel for carrying a small fighter and a med-bay. with death of a space man been implimented i really want a private med-bay. too bad it's not flyable right now. otherwise i would forsake the carrack
The Polaris really is an excellent ship! It offers a lot of utility in an aggressive long-distance attacker, as long as you’re okay giving up 200 or so SCU of cargo over the Carrack! But with the extra quarters for the snub fighter, a brig and more, its got plenty to offer in exchange!
Now the Kraken would be excellent in addition to either, as I see that ship primarily useful for large groups of people, whereas a smaller crew could run the Polaris and (even smaller) on the Carrack!
But I do see your dilemma, as they’re all rather fantastic haha. While I’m not sure if I’ll be able to help your decision, I do really appreciate you taking the time to watch this video and share your thoughts!

It's not heavy armor. Check Q&A again. It's supposed to be light-amored and fast. A hit & run ship for capitals
I agree when compared to other capital ships, but I was referring to its armor in comparison to the overall star citizen ship lineup. In that regard, this ship (as a military capital ship) will be heavily armored compared to the majority of ships/fighters in-verse; which can currently take out large ships (like the HH) due to these armor states not being properly implemented!
Although I agree with its slated role as a more maneuverable “less armored” capital military ship (when compared to the Idris, Javelin, etc). Hmm i think it isnt about when you get it. Cause you 100% will this game just wants to be the best it can be and unlike other games wich release and get forgotten about. This game uses cutting edge technology and programs. They are trying to fix the game/expand it/and try and keep the game relevant at the same time. Also its been said around a thousand times,you dont buy a ship you give a certain amount of backer money and get a ship in return. And if they are the worst developers well... look at rockstar and cd project red and then look at this game... you get exactly whats promised here
Also if you have the funds to buy such a package then you mustve been super ok with spending that much. Im sure you have over 1000s of hours into this game and probably spend a lot on it. To then and back away now.... damn thats a shame

We'd need an actual game to play, or some reason to believe there will be a game, before any of it matters. So right now you're basically playing hypothetical dnd light. Not really a worthwhile pastime. Instead, lets all get together and demand some progress made on the GAME part of the game. No more ships until there's a game to play.
What are you talking about? I’ve backed this project for over 8 years and it’s been almost 5+ since we’ve had meaningful gameplay. There’s plenty to do in the verse from combat to mining, racing and more. While a lot of features are still in development, I constantly enjoy playing this game for its immersion and amazing flight mode, great first person and look forward to a lot of what’s already been implemented.
You’re pledging to support Chris’ vision. If you don’t like his timeline, don’t put more money into this project. But you aren’t a shareholder, you aren’t making an investment and you’re in no position of power to demand anything.
