During the most trying times, we can always turn to music. While the reprieve is only momentary, it can give us a much needed mental and emotional break before we return to the truth of the world. Thank you for your candor and for challenging yourself and being here. Your perspective is appreciated.

You did this. What a stunning and moving performance by Rasha Nahas. You are elevating the conversation. You are doing a lot.
I was going to say "welcome back!" I check in periodically to see if you've posted again, and today I was excited to see three new posts. So I was going to welcome you back, and I am welcoming you back, but I can feel your pain so deeply that it makes me cry. The circumstances in the world are different than they were a year and a half ago, but I felt just like you do now and I more or less had a breakdown. It's a work in progress and one I'm sure I'll never master. One thing I have to force myself to do is to be informed, but not overwhelmed. Honestly, music has been a huge help (and distraction) for me. You helped me with your reactions, as did many others.
Take care of yourself. You're the most important person you know.

“When everything seem to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it ....”
    ― Henry Ford
You are such a beautiful human. We're lucky to have you back. Even for just a while. Don't underestimate the impact your past reactions have made. The genuine kindness and warmth all of your past reactions put into the world may seemed insignificant but they were critical lifelines for so many. Yes, the world is gone to heck. But it's better with you here than without. You matter. You make a difference.

In a world that is no longer normal we need to stick to the things that make us feel normal. That escape into beats and lyrics that take away the feelings of uneasiness, sadness and hopelessness.
I'm glad to see your back. Keep your head up and know you're not alone in having these feelings.

  • @dmontaine

For those who are looking to cheer for good vs evil, there is no good ... just varying shades of evil. Today it is Ukraine and the west vs Russia and it's allies, Israel vs Palestine ... in the past Vietnam vs the USA ... or killers vs the Twin Towers and all that came after ... (or the insane with an assault rifle in Lewiston tonight enabled by our collective American Rambo fetish). There is always some reason for somebody to kill for a "righteous" cause. And there is always a history of grievance that "justifies" the barbarism on every side.
Don't get me wrong, the world is run by psychopaths with the tools of propaganda sharpened to turn every grievance into an excuse to profit off of selling weapons to every side. Every atrocity is just another marketing opportunity.
The only sane option is to be for no side but peace, even if it is just between yourself and your neighbors. Because none of us little folks can change the insanity and greed of the powerful except by refusing to participate in their schemes.

Hey RogueRxy! I was worried about you and even though I can hear the hurt on you I am glad to know that you are here despite all the ugliness. I find myself increasingly more emotional the older I get and am almost daily moved to tears by any number of things. I know what you speak of and have felt the same pain for many years.
I think it comes largely from paying attention and being compassionate. If we don't pay attention than we can be oblivious of suffering around the world and there is a lot. It is not necessary to look far to see it.
The situation in Gaza is absolutely horrific and to my mind is a perfect case study for why armed conflict no longer works. Once upon a time long ago brute force could be used to obliterate another country, bring them to their knees and force them to capitulate but, that is no longer the case.
Now we wind up with insurgency without end and innocent lives being destroyed whether they live or die every injury and death is like a ripple in a pool sending shock waves throughout a community affecting all who hear of the tragedy but, in particular those who knew the person in question. Even if the person survives an injury the hurt to them and their community remains forever.
Even if one aggressor were to wipe out another from the face of the earth there is no way to destroy an idea and in doing so the aggressor would become an international pariah for ever joining the ranks of the worst villains in our history.
I don't consider myself a poet and rarely read poetry but, I have memorized one short poem that has ever brought me solace and hope in the darkest of times so I will presume to share it with you. It is somewhat famous so you may know it:
All that is gold does not glitter
All those who wander are not lost
The old who are strong do not wither
Deep roots are not touched by a frost
From the ashes a fire shall awaken
From the shadows a light shall spring
Forged anew will be blade that was broken
And the crownless will again be king
    JRR Tolkien
Perspective and contrast might be two of the most vital things we can gain RogueRxy. All things are relative and it requires perspective to be able to separate the little things from the medium things and the big things. We have limited time and energy so it is futile to spend either of those resources on things we deem less than vital.
Contrast is important because we seem as a species incapable of fully appreciating people and things in our life until they are no longer with us. We cannot appreciate sweet without having experienced bitter. We do not appreciate being with others unless we have experienced loneliness. We cannot fully appreciate joy without having tasted the dregs of sorrow.
I may be wrong about everything I think RogueRxy but, this is what I think currently. I also think it is part of being human to experience the full range of emotions though some of them are bitter to feel. I think it is not healthy to avoid all these feelings even the ones we don't like. It is a part of our humanity. It is in part how we learn I think. I wish often that it were not so but, I think it is.
I think everything we experience is necessary to form who we are and who we will be in the future. Even the things that we never wanted to be part of or have to endure. Sometimes it is all we can do to endure circumstances we find ourselves in. We are all wired differently and I apologize if I am insulting your intelligence in any way RogueRxy because I am sure you have already had many of these ideas occur to you so please excuse me for my presumption.
I feel your pain across the oceans and I wish there was more I could do to help you let it go so it does not hurt so much. My father often remarked about what he called "man's inhumanity to man." This is just such an example. There are so many in the past and happening currently and for what? Unfortunately there are many people who are damaged and seek to use force to impose their will on others for their own purposes. It is easy for me to sit here in comfort and ease to say such things because my family and friends have not suffered for generations from such age old hatred like that we see in the desert or in Africa or as we saw in Ireland and many others places too numerous to name.
Hate is an emotion and to my mind defies reason. If we unteather reason and give ourselves to our emotions then such atrocities are possible and it is perhaps the ugliest side of our humanity. You are absolutely right that there is so much of this going around right now and ..."if I could, you know I would yes I would let it go." (U2)
As the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tsu once said: ..."hold fast to the center." Do not lose sight of who we are particularly in these hardest of times when so much is attempting to pull us away from who we are at our core so please RogueRxy hold fast to who you are at your core for that is beautiful and worthy and why those of us who enjoy your thoughts and posts return again and again. I hope in some small way you can draw solace from my very long post (I have rarely been accused of being the quiet one! hehe). If I have in some measure lifted your spirits even a little then I am glad. It is my purpose in this life and I pursue it every day poco y poco.
I will share one last little story that may lift you a little. I have a childhood friend here near Fresno who after she and her wife retired have been spending a lot of their time raising money on their own, gathering donations, and seeking out homeless folks here in Fresno, CA (there are many) bringing them hot food, snacks, clothing, personal hygiene products, sleeping bags and just about anything you can imagine that a body needs to live all out of the goodness of their hearts. I have had the privilege to ride along with them on several occasions and it is awesome to behold. Look where you least expect it and often we can find surprising beauty everywhere.
All my love to you and your family RogueRxy always.
    Peter St. John
    Fresno, CA

a speaker leo buscalia gave a talk way back when where a monk was chased by a tiger and ended up going over the edge of cliff and grabbed onto a branch on his way down. a 1,000 foot drop below him and a tiger above. he sees a strawberry bush with a beautiful strawberry on it. he eats it and thinks "delicious".
Fast forward 20 years. I am across the street when the planes fly into the world trade center on 9/11. In my wanderings to get home I pass a bodega selling these beautiful yellow flowers. I bought some and when my wife picked me up at the train station I gave her the flowers and said "there is still beauty in the world".
Please always remember there is still beauty in the world. the world is always ugly and beautiful. cruel and kind. I have no answers, but I am here for your journey

You touch my heart, Rogue. And I agree with you 100%: we need more empathy, not less. More love, not less. More understanding, not less. And all this while the world seems to be relentlessly going in the opposite direction. There is a poem in my native language that ends with "The soft powers will prevail." And I still hope against hope that they will.
Back to music. You will love Souad Massi. She is a wonderfully sensitive French-Algerian singer-songwriter; she made a terrific comeback album called Sequana, so heartfelt, sincere and real. All her work is remarkable.

I have noticed that there seem to be some, and a lot of our politicians, who are trying to appropriate the word antisemitic to mean being against only one tribe of people. They ignore the Dictionary definition, which applies the word semitic to BOTH tribes:
    adjective: Semitic
    1.
relating to or denoting a family of languages that includes Hebrew, Arabic, and Aramaic and certain ancient languages such as Phoenician and Akkadian, constituting the main subgroup of the Afro-Asiatic family.
    2.
relating to the peoples who speak Semitic languages, especially Hebrew and Arabic.

The Middle East has been an unsolvable problem for at least 3,000 years. The only thing that has changed is the weapons they use against each other. There are extremists everywhere unfortunately who hold a distorted warped view of whatever their choice of belief tells them. It’s impossible for normal ordinary people to “ understand” the actions of these extremists as by any measurement of behaviour, they’re insane. Stay safe. Stay calm. Stay happy. Stay you.

🤔…..despair. That’s how I am feeling at this moment.
I wonder if there is any perspective we could possibly acquire that would make the madness we hear about and witness somehow become understandable?…..somehow comprehensible?
But I think not. The only perspective I can offer that perhaps provides a framework for coping, is that the horrific events swirling all around us, all over the world, are part of an undeniable continuum (or cycle) that never stops. Natural disasters - or the dark side of human nature - or often times BOTH simultaneously have been a part of the human experience virtually through all of history.
The difference it seems for all of us who presently inhabit this planet (vs. those who lived in times past where there was no instantaneous News -no computers - no satellites - no cellphones), is that virtually EVERY tragic event around the world now comes to our attention instantly - often times with unspeakable scenes unfolding right before our eyes - in real time - of natural catastrophes or human aggression and atrocities.
In our present existence we get hammered RELENTLESSLY every day - every hour - every minute!.….in graphic detail .
My point (or shall we say my “ perspective”) is that the world we live in now is not really all that different than the world our parents, our grandparents….really our ancestors from hundreds and thousands of years ago inhabited and had to cope with: war, famine, natural, disasters, religious persecutions, on and on and on it goes.
But this perspective I offer up here hopefully may also shed some light on the reality that there is (and always has been) beauty, creativity, hope, joy, happiness and love in this world.
We must not lose hope….we must not give up. Despair is real - but we must not allow it to dominate and imprison us.
❤️ We need each other. And we need to continue to live, love, support and celebrate together the beauty in this world - because WE KNOW these attributes to our existence are just as real as all the bad stuff that happens to us and all around us.
Of course, we can’t just ignore the tragic events that occur around us ….. but let us ALSO CONTINUE to focus and highlight (as you are doing sweet, sensitive and genuine RogueRxyce) on the beautiful, and creative, and joyful aspects of our existence.
I, for one, am so glad you are back!
You may not be feeling it right now - but you are a much missed and now much needed breath of fresh air!….. and also hope AND anticipation that the beauty you will continue to find in our world you will bring to us with your amazing reactions.

I first must say that your heart is pure and when do we get past antisemitism as we speak out about the atrocities being brought against the people of Palestine. If we speak out we are labeled antisemitic. Which I am not I love people of all religions but I hate people who oppress or bully other people and being blonde and blue eyed muslim American would be labeled antisemitic if people would take the time to listen and experience different cultures they would find a beautiful world with amazing people that show love a kindness even when things are tough. Blessings to all the people who are willing to speak out when things are wrong. Oppressed???? By whom? Hamas oppresses their people. How much aid has been sent to Palestine?? You think the people see it? They get everything from Israel. Why dont they take the aid and build a self sustaining infrastructure, that will allow its citizens to thrive? They blame Israel because that is the easy thing to do. Also, they voted for Hamas.

Sorry to hear that you're struggling. Try listening to Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire" it might help to put things into perspective for you. Essentially, he saying there is nothing new under the sun. We always find a way through this bollickry so just keep putting one foot in front of the other. ❤

I hear you loud and clear Sista. There is just so much pain and suffering in the world that are totally avoidable. If people would just be willing to talk things out.

You can't try to take the problems of the world upon yourself and come out of it feeling good. I think listening to "feel good" instead of this depressing type music would do everyone better.

There is a chance of that happening, of course, why should there not be? There are artists that fundamentally disagree with the ugly extreme rightwing insanity that currently 'governs' Israel...

Real talk: there's always death and cruelty going on somewhere in the world: the only difference between good time (for you) and bad times (for you) is whether you're hearing about it or not. And the thing is, just because somebody somewhere's decided that you should be hearing about it at the moment doesn't mean for one second that you're responsible for it or that you can do anything to make it better. This isn't to say you shouldn't care (there'd be something wrong with you if you didn't), but the point is, making yourself mentally and emotionally ill over it doesn't fix anything: it just damages _you_ , and the people suffering on the other side of the world won't be any better off and won't even know.
So try to disengage for some of the time, and get things in perspective. Turn off the TV. Turn off the social media. Go out and meet people and look at stuff. Pay attention to the details. Look at normal people doing normal things, and all the beautiful little details involved in that, and if it isn't working for _them_ , try to fix _that_ . Try to fix the stuff at the end of your fingers, not on the other side of your TV screen, because you can't fix the latter: there's too much of it, and not enough of you.
The Nun's Prayer is old and clichéd, but most things get to be clichés by being true:
God grant me courage enough to change what I can,
patience enough to endure what I can't,
and wisdom enough to know the difference.
    Peace.❤

RR please be gentle with yourself. You are so right. When I feel lost and frustrated I search for people like you. The fact that you really care, gives me some hope. You are the future of this world, you may not think you can do much but you do, even just putting out this video is helping, showing that there really are other people on this tiny planet that do actually care. We have to understand that it is not about good and evil, there is that propensity in all of us. The problems we see today, have always existed in some form or other. The main cause of our problems, usually on both sides, is greed, that simple. Those of us that feed the greed instead of feeding the empathy. The people who forget to measure what they want against what they actually need. People who forget the simple facts as described by Carl Sagan in that Pale Blue Dot.
One thing I have learned, is that you/me/us will always think that we can not do enough, some of us will give up trying (the apathy you talk of), but in those times we must believe that we can, and will, do what we can, even if it doesn't seem enough to us at the time, it will be the best we can do.
If you do get back into doing music videos, may I humbly suggest you take a look at Nightwish official version of Ad Astra from the Human | Nature album. It may help you with perspective, even if you just watch it for yourself and not a reaction.
Rasha Nahas, by the way is a powerful songwriter and this is a beautiful song.
    Stay strong, love to you.

Sadly left out of this singer's and your concern are the babies that were burnt burnt alive, the mothers raped in front of their families, the men tortured and decapitated, the young people enjoying a day of music and dancing suddenly hunted and murdered for sport, the corpses abused, all in a religious fervor that is nothing more than evil incarnate. Your eyes have always been open to the wide variety of musical expression on your channel, and it saddens me to see how closed minded you've become as to the true evildoers in "the desert." i was elated to see you back on youtube, and simultaneously depressed at your failure to comprehend the difference between good and evil. Here's hoping you will see the light.
