- BEFORE STARTING: UPLUG THE NEON SIGN! DO NOT OPERATE SIGN WITH A BROKEN TUBE
1. First we will get rid of the broken tube. Half of our signs have tiny copper wires holding the neon tube into the little plastic tube holders. If your sign has these tiny copper wires, pluck them off with a razor blade and discard; you won’t need them again as they were just for shipping.
2. Take the black rubber boots off the ends of the broken tube. If they are a little tight, you can use a hair dryer on them for approximately 20 seconds to loosen the rubber.
3. Once the boots are off, untwist the wires that connect the broken tube to the sign and discard the broken tube.
4. Next, connect the new tube by twisting the wires on with your fingers and replace the rubber boots back carefully.
5. Clip the new tube back into the clear tube holders and you’re done! - Навчання та стиль
Thanks, I just replaced part of my sign that was broken using this. It was even easier than the video appeared, I thought those rubber boots would be on a bit tighter, but they were easy on and off.

To answer your question, the tool used to test the neon tubes is simply a neon tube tester. You can go to ebay auction number 361016268703.

Do you need to get replacement glass for the section that is broken? How do you go about getting your specific piece? I have a Budweiser sign and the last "e" in Budweiser has been broken, is there anyway to some how patch the glass?
Could I just remove the broken section and have the rest of the sign light up?
Hi Tommy, thanks for the question:
Patching the glass unfortunately is not an option. When air has gotten into a neon bulb, the bulb is no longer a vacuum and cannot really function properly in a neon sign... Think of a light bulb. When it is broken, it is pretty much no good and a new bulb is needed. If you could find a local neon sign shop and bring your sign in, they can likely blow you a new -E and install it for you if they have the necessary equipment.
Alternatively, yes, you can wire around the broken bulb. Just wire around it by connecting two functioning sections: you basically need a complete circuit without any breaks for the sign to work. Hope this helps!
