playing this also got me thinking how I really don't need these games to be remastered. don't touch 'em. they feel great especially with next-gen fps upgrades 😏
Shame the fanbase ruined the franchise, not Ubisoft, but the fanbase, complaining it's diferent, complaining if you like a game other than 2 or Black Flag, they're sooo anoying!
@@thiagopina4258 i still maintain Ezio (and the series in general) only got good in Brotherhood. if you remove brotherhood and rev ezio is pretty unlikable and boring.
Fuckin love this game. Back in the day it was so revolutionary. The white Animus colours and everything looked new and innovative, truly a one of a kind game, back when Ubisoft actually had passion for Assassin's Creed.
As an Italian who really likes history I want to add that the contextualisation for the game is top tier. The characters are great (reading what Machiavelli wrote to then meet him in game was amazing), the historical context, general vibe and events are very accurate (with some liberties of course), and the city are amazingly recreated.
I'm italian and I live 5km from Monteriggioni, this game changed my life. It gave my more courage and pride of what i really am. I was so proud to be italian and from Tuscany just beacuse of that game (I was 14) and it helped me a lot. And now I'm 28 and I'm so grateful to AC2 beacuse it let me study about my region etc...
I was 9 yrs old playing this game and my first assassin's game. Yes I was VERY young but still just tell why these games hold a special place in my heart.
I'm italian, and I live in Arezzo, and Florence is just 1 hour away from my city. The fact that one of the most famous and beautiful games is set in Italy, especially Florence, always gives me chills...the cities are all well done and also the voice actors speak a pretty good italian. This game is perfect, and I agree with everything you have said in this video
No matter what direction the AC games go, Ezio's games will always be my favorite installments. You got to see his birth, him as an immature young man, all the way to him as an old man leading the Creed. I enjoy the open world AC games they have now, but for me, they'll never top Ezio.
Assassins creed 2 is one of those games where looking back i realize how good us kids really had it back then...the music production and perfect vibe that it captures...it really is a classic in my eyes
I was almost 20 when this came out and a decade or so later, it still gives me chills when I hear that score. This is one of those games that made me sad when I finished because I didn't want it to end. They captured renaissance Italy so well that it didn't feel like I was playing it, it felt more like I was actually Desmond living in that time period vicariously through Ezio.
I'm now 20 and just recently got into gaming because of my boyfriend. The first game I played complete on my own was assassin's creed 2 and I immediately fell in love with it, so hopefully in some years I'll feel the exact same about this game as you do
So glad to see you get around to AC2! This game really is timeless in so many ways. One thing I wished you would’ve mentioned is that the database entries for your targets and the codex pages really do a good job of fleshing out the story. The confessions are unfortunately sparse compared to how masterful they were in AC1, but much of the details get moved into supplementary materials like letters that you can read in the database (you can also read the letters from the courier missions). The codex pages are also amazing and do a great job of filling in the gaps between AC1 and AC2.
In hindsight, what impressed me the most about this game is how authentical they recreated the cities, the buildings in particular. A few years after I played it, I was on a school trip to Tuscany and among other towns, we also visited Florence. And the buildings especially the big ones like the Santa Maria del Fiore looked exactly like they appear in the game.
@@torquemada2 Yeah, somewhat. But I guess the Italians aren't so keen of people climbing and jumping across their roofs anymore since there was no way to get up there easily. Furthermore, there weren't any carts filled with petals or straw you could jump into.
A bit late, but a friend of my parents was a student in Italy, Florence for like 2 years. She once watched me playing ac2 and we literally found the street she lived 😅 of course it looked different, BUT the game is accurate enough to find stuff like this.. this amazed my 14 y/o me so much that I was hooked. And since then the Ezio trilogy remains as one of the best pieces of video game history for me!
AC2 is such a GOAT!! This game is so nostalgic and absolutely incredible, that even all these years later, I've made it a point to visit Monteriggioni for an upcoming trip. Current assassin creed games need to take a step back and listen to their fan base more instead of catering to mass appeal and breaking sales records. Good sales and appeal are the product of a well-crafted game and should not be the only driving force for creation and inspiration.
They listend to the FANS and changed the gameplay bc the fans were crying and said the games were repetetiv, and now once again the fans cry and want the old games back, like fr wtf, why listen to the crying fans when other people like the game, you just complain
I just miss being a legitimate assassin in these games, the last one in the franchise to make me feel that way was probably unity. and unity was by far not a perfect game at all. but from syndicate onward just feels like they’ve strayed so far aways from their own brand, in the last 2 games you’re not even an assassin I’m just hoping for new direction for the narrative and the story in upcoming titles
I just started replaying this since I bought the Ezio collection. And let me tell you, it's super refreshing to play a game with a revenge plot again, and not have to be told how immoral killing is every 5 seconds
you ever play Dishonored? if not you should check it out, it left deciding the morality of revenge up to you to decide & has one of the most amazingly designed worlds I have ever seen. same with the DLC as well as its sequel, definitely worth checking out and it is usually pretty light on the wallet to pick up the definitive edition on PC or console.
AC2 was the game. Took the foundation of the first one and built something amazing with it. Sad to see that recent AC isn’t even a shadow of what it used to be.
Well said. I just recently replayed this game in preparation for a trip to Italy. As I walked around Rome, Florence and Venice I couldn’t stop thinking of it and the characters I met with. While the history from the replay was great it reminded me just what a phenomenal game it was from a mechanics perspective. Tomorrow I fly home to New York from Milan and cannot wait to climb the buildings I have just visited.
Just finished replaying assassin's creed 2 and got the platinum trophy on PS4 and absolutely loved every bit of it once again!! Can't wait to play brother hood next!
@@alexbastos6960 graphics are beautifil, but the story i am leaving siwa now so cant talk to much. Gameplay and these types of games are hard for me so i need to settle down
Whoaaa great to stumble across this video and nice job mate. Uncanny really. Especially since you uploaded it in 2022. I had just moved this year in January, to a new apartment in the city and ended up borrowing my cousin's PS4. The second game pack I bought was Ezio's collection and by God is AC2 the best by a mile. Played it through once back when I was 14, now I'm 26, playing it brings back so many memories and nostalgic moments for me. I agree 100% that even in 2022, this game stands out for it's creativity, evolution from the original series, and it's vastly improved game mechanics. Even the music alone is enough to leave me spending hours on free roam. I turned the music up to 10 and the rest like voice/SFX down to 6 lol. Aside from that just the missions, characters, cities, conspirators and general game pace like you mentioned is spot on, bar some particular missions that require time + effort. Simple, yet so very effective and enthralling. My favourite in particular was the Carnivale in Venice. Spent at least two weeks alone just roaming around with the golden mask. The golden mask and Altair's armour not just looks so bloody spectacular, but gives Ezio an edge especially with the need to go incognito frequently. All in all I spent 3 full months just taking my time enjoying this masterpiece. Pointless for me to write all this really but that's how much I love this fucking version/release. AC2 will go down as one of the best games in history for me at least. And it has a damn good case.
Fun fact: I watched my dad play this game on PS3 back in the day And if you were my dad playing this and happened to leave the door open, letting me in the same room, the phrase you would hear the most would be "Dad, use the poison knives!" Fast forward a few years later the game showed up for free on uplay, so I got it. Fast forward to about a month ago, when I continued the game where I left off all those years ago (Additional info: When I got the game for free, I played a small chunk of it) and discovered, THAT THE POISON KNIVES WEREN'T EVEN KNIVES THEY WERE HIDDEN BLADES Oh, and wanna hear something FUNNY? I DIDN'T EVEN USE THEM UNTIL I HUNTED FOR THE CODEX PAGES AND THAT WAS ONLY TO TRY THEM OUTTTTTT But overall, Whenever I open the weapon select, I get showered with nostalgia. And that's good
I played and beat Assassin's Creed 2 for the first time in 2021, followed by all the other games and it's very VERY easily still my favorite of the entire series. Not even just because of the beautiful sprawling backdrop of Renaissance Era Italy but because of the stories, the characters and the absolute drive to uncover incredible secrets all over the game. Ubi caught lightning in a bottle with AC2 and I hope they can return to form after Valhalla.
it wasn't just a great assassin/stealth game, it was a great game to play in general, even if you didn't care for the assassin related stuff, just experiencing the world building in AC2 is something magical all on its own. AC2 and Dishonored are two of the most beautifully designed game worlds I've ever experienced.
I am one of the people who likes all the AC games they are all unique and enjoyable but the Ezio trilogy and AC2 definitely holds a special place in my heart. I mean look at my pic it is literally Ezio in AC2. Everything about it is iconic the robes, the music, the parkour, the combat, the setting and the characters. Love these videos keep on keepin on
the best AC game ever made in my opinion. no other game gave the emotions and the feelings that this one did. all these years later, I get chills every time.
Yea but why didn’t ezio kill the pope. Bro literally days he’s waited too long to kill him then after second fight says he’s not gonna kill him. It’s so dumb
@@sandwichfromtheskip1813 he didn't die in 1499, but in 1503. And to show that Ezio is still a man who can fail, as he was a real Assassin then he had a target which was Rodrigo, and he failed by sparing him, due to his emotional reasons. He wanted to let go of the revenge and anger, killing Rodrigo wouldn't have brought his family back. But an Assassin should never succumb to his emotions, he had a mission and he failed. That's why Ezio is such a fantastic character.
@N7Andy should of never had the fight that early and have ezio flip flop between being enraged calling him a bastard and going to kill him then 5 mins later defeating him and leaving him alive. It happens in such close succession that there’s no reason for ezio not to kill him except for the fact he died in 1503. So the fact they’re staying true to history doesn’t excuse the poor writhing rather they should have built up to his actual death more organically
@@antonioskoda9516 if there was more time between the initial confrontation where ezio was going to kill him in the church to where he eventually defeated in the old ones tomb then it would make more sense, but the fact he does a complete 180 in the span of 2 short fights doesn’t make any. I still love the character and game but this really frustrated me while re playing it cus he was fully prepared to kill him 5 minutes before deciding to spare him. Not to mention the countless other people he had already killed to get to that point, and then when face to face directly with the man responsible for his families death he decides he’s a better man and murder isn’t the way. It doesn’t have any logical reasoning behind it, it’s very unrealistic and unbelievable.
I bought the Ezio trilogy on PS4 around Christmas time because I had never played those games. My first AC game was AC3, and I remember everyone hating Connor and loving Ezio, but never knew why. So I FINALLY decided to see what all the hype was about and OH MY GOSH. AC2 is PHENOMENAL. Some of the controls haven't aged quite so gracefully, but that rarely affected my experience. I finally understood why everyone loves Ezio, and why a lot of people think the Italian Renaissance games are peak AC. Personally AC3 is my favorite, but AC2 is right up there. Also, I hate how in future titles, you can only aquire Ezio's Brotherhood outfit. His AC2 outfits are WAY better than his Brotherhood one. Both the starting robes/his father's robes and the endgame Altair armor. Top tier AC robes imo
Good points. AC 3 was my first experience with AC lore too. I was sooo… confused (my own fault for not starting at the beginning but still 3 was a disaster! That game was almost unplayable when released despite the amazing story and beautiful open world.
AC Black Flag was my first game because I wanted to play a pirate game without knowing it being Assassins Creed, the more I play deep into it, the more I learned about AC games, I was like wow how could I miss out AC2, AC3 and all AC games. So I played AC2 and AC3, I was blown away how amazing these games are. Then I played Rogue, the ice version of black flag, it was sooo good. Then I played Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla. Odyssey is the most beautiful and charming, Origins has better story and more resembled to the original AC, Valhalla is more variety and deeper cinematic. As for my favorite.. black flag will always be my favorite, but AC2 is darn close too, I just love Italy. I’m grateful for Assassins Creed.
I honestly can’t remember if 1 or 2 was my first game, but I absolutely agree. I loved AC3 as well. I thought it was fun. I’m replaying AC2 right now. Controls are kinda trash and game is a bit framy on my PS5.
I always remember being fascinated by the deeper mysteries and underlying stories in AC2. Like you mentioned in the video, those creepy apples of Eden picture puzzles and what-not really set the tone. It felt like there was this huge underlying story, a huge ancient conspiracy that was leaving footprints in history. Which of-course was the point, but damn did they nail it. And Ezio was the GOAT. Good job on the video!
Damn, this game gave me chills when I played it as 10 year old. I'm playing the Ezio collection right now and his saga hits way deeper now, especially the AC2
This was one of those games that I was so overwhelmingly hyped for as a kid (like 13 or so). I remember coming home from school and watching the cinematic trailer almost everyday and rewatching the gameplay trailers obsessively. It totally lived up to everything I could’ve imagined. I don’t really get that anymore. Not because I hate gaming or have become jaded with age but being that age and seeing something you view as mind blowing, waiting what feels like an eternity for it to come out and then it delivering…it’s hard to ever top. I’ll always love this game and Ezio, even if I don’t care as much about the franchise now.
AC2 was the very first AC game I played, and its my favorite of the series. I actually started a replay of it a couple weeks ago, and the memories of staying up late on weekends playing this game trying to 100% it are some I cherish
I don't feel the nostalgia like you guy, because 3 day ago was the first time i finished ac2, the control is kinda suck, but the story, the world and gameplay overall is so fascinating
I remember loving this game so much and gettin so baffled by the ending that I counted every second until Brotherhood came out, brought it, and finnished the thing in one single, sweaty sitting. But the end of brotherhood only made my addiction worse
favourite game. It was an amazing feeling to recognize Florence' landmarks because of AC2 while actually being there as a tourist . Not even talking about San Gimignano - what a memory.
I remember when I got this game. I had never played an AC game and saw this was on sale at GameStop for like $17. I took the plunge and decided to try something new and different from what I usually played and I was hooked. This game made me fall in love with the series. It was a breath of fresh air with like you said a renaissance style world. Assassin's Creed II will forever be in my heart. Loved the video, brought back all the nostalgia.
Im looking at the comments section and feeling so old right now. While most of the people commenting were in school, I was 21 years old and had got a new job and I remember buying AC2 with my first paycheck for the PC. I remember it had released in March 2010 for the PC. I played the game all through friday night till sunday and finished the game. It was such an amazing experience. What a story! I remember being awe-struck when Minerva revealed herself and the entire concept of ancient aliens being introduced to the series. Another thing that stayed in my mind was the soundtrack. Especially the track that plays when you're in Venice. Man time sure does fly by fast!
I still remember everything, AC1 was my first game in the series, but for me AC2 did everything better, I was in school and was so addicted to this game that I was fantasizing about playing the game again. I'm booting this one up again one of these days for sure
The weapon diversity was underrated in AC2. The warhammer & stilleto were early game options that required different tactics & were viable throughout playthroughs. Ezio could dictate flow of combat by enforcing his will upon enemies with the warhammer, whereas the stilleto called for quick feet & biding time to find openings. Thanks for the video Jayvee, time to reinstall AC2.
I started playing assassins creed 2 for the first time in my life a few days ago and o gotta say it’s crazy how good the graphics, skills and the movement is in this game. I mean it’s 15yrs old now and does not look bad in my opinion. And the map is incredibly big and astonishing. I’m happy I tried this it out and hope to have a few sleepless nights with it. Gonna comeback and give you guys feedback (even if you don’t want to).
The worldbuilding in this game was master class. I played this game when it came out in 2009, and the places I went and things I did in the game feel like a part of MY history, not a fictional characters. The immersion, the characters, the music, it truly is a masterpiece. Modern game studios could learn a lot from this game. I still remember watching the trailer in highschool, at a cafeteria table, on someone's ipod touch and being so hyped at the hidden gun reveal.
I remember playing this game. Still my favourite AC game to date but I haven't touched it in like 12 years. I remember that this was one of the first games I played on my first PC bought for my own money with GF 9600 GT. Still listening to the music, especially venezia theme.
I was 11 when AC2 came out.. it was the first ever open world game I ever played and I absolutely fell in love. It’s music and character development are second to none.. and then AC3 came out and I still think that was my favorite open world ever - it’s fresh graphics and fluidity was awesome :) sadly Black Flag was the last I ever played, but that was a masterpiece too
This was and always will be my favourite game. I've played it the whole way through SO MANY TIMES I CAN'T REMEMBER, and every time I have chills and am floored by how beautiful and unique and Romantic the game is. A true masterpiece which a lot of contemporary game developers should learn from. It is a rich landscape of history, stealth, adventure, romance and brutal violence which satiates the wide palette of human nature. I simply cannot wait until I can play it again.
This video is godsend. This game, among many, holds an incredible place in my heart. I always get anxious talking about this game or watching videos on it because I have such a distinct admiration and vision of this game in my head. You nailed it - nostalgia. This game brings me to a better time in life. And the entire game is so well thought-out, and detailed, and gorgeous. It brings me to tears sometimes when I think about playing this game. Thank you for an awesome review that said all of the things I’ve been saying about this game since 2009.
When I played the game for the first time on release I cried on the opening credits.... Just a bit 😅, and every time I hear the score I get watery eyes. It was one of the few times my hype was over the roof and the game actually delivered. Good memories
A friend recommended the Ezio Collection way back in February. As someone who grew up without videogames, I went into AC2 with an open mind, not really expecting much. I got totally hooked. I dove deep into the lore, story, characters and just absolutely fell in love with the franchise. At least, up to ac4. Anyway, yeah these games hold up extremely well even nowadays. Edit: also i didn't know the events in the game at around 4:00 were a DLC lmao, it did make that part of the game feel disjointed and awkward.
In 2022 I also played AC 2 along with brotherhood, revelations and AC3! And out of the three the second game felt the most important to me, you find yourself invested in this universe where the game makes you CARE about these characters, in, and out of the Animus. And you get sucked into the environments, the dialogue, and the overall gameplay, it's both an amazing game, and what feels like a movie at times! When I first played this a decade ago, I adored it, 10 years later, nothing has changed ❤️🤍
Pfft! I completely forgot to mention Revelations! 😅 Yes I played that as well! Love that game, the hook mechanic really made that game feel special from the others!
I replayed all the early AC games about 2 years ago to 100% the xbox achievements and found Brotherhood (and Revelations) to be way better than I remembered. I played AC2 when it first came out and it is one of my all time favorite games, and favorite AC game, but Brotherhood surprisingly gave me a similar feeling to AC2 plus it had a lot of new features I found to make the game feel and play better than AC2 imo (and of course Revelations is the same as Brotherhood more or less). I felt a little guilty asking myself if I was REALLY about to think Brotherhood was better than 2... nothing can beat the Ezio origin story though!
@@Conquered Completely opposite experience. I found Brotherhood way more boring and tedious than I had remembered. Revelation was surprisingly good in every aspect, though, and that just comes down to mission structure. Brotherhood requires so much stealth, though it doesn't really have any stealth mechanics. And some missions like rescuing Caterina not only required lots of it, but were also really tedious.
I‘ve been playing Ezio trilogy too on my Nintendo Switch lately!~ Now I am halfway through Revelation. So far I think Assassin Creed 2 trilogy are great works that can stand the test of time. Interesting combats, intriguing storytelling and a cool combination with real history. Also, this game invoked my passion for Italy!~
Tbh my dream game is AC II but Skyrim level open world Renaissance Italy is so cool to explore and you could do so much in a game like that I’d also be happy with an Ancient Rome version too that’d be sick af
Holy shit i just bought the game a week ago to replay it after a lot of years The nostalgia killed me man this game is one of the best i've ever played The osts, the gameplay, the aesthetic, the characters and the story are awesome
I remember going to the game store and seeing ac 2 playing in the background. Just a few minutes of it made me buy the entire ezio collection as one of my first ps3 games. I don’t remember being so invested in the story of a video game before ac 2. I’ve been a fan of this franchise ever since
My first (and favorite) AC game was Unity, and from then I had only played III, Sndicate, Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla for about 10 hours each, but recently bought all the ac games on a sale and have been playing them one by one. And godamnit man, Assassin’s Creed II is a masterpiece. Although its old and campy, and not as beautiful as Valhalla, its still such a fun and exciting experience. I would much rather spend 2 hours collecting feathers than 20 grinding metal ingots.
I got assassins creed 2 for the first time this year as well, in fact I just platinum this week, the game was pretty good. the mysteries of subject 16 were super interesting as well as the historical characters like davinci or the death of pazzi.
Great analysis dude, I loved this game back in 09, The combats great and much better then whatever they were going for in Origins/Oddysey/AC:V, and the music, literally everything you said about it I agreed with, I think I might start a new game on it after all this time!
the combat was tedious, boring and easy. it didnt even have a level of difficulty to keep you on edge, it was just wait, press x, wait, press x, wai,t press x. just a glorified QTE.
One thing I noticed after coming back to ac2 after playing odyssey is that they took the ac2 theme and made it the odyssey theme. I love the odyssey theme and it had been years since I played ac2 so I didn’t even know that’s where they had got it from 😂 fun fact
I’m replaying it rn 😂 having an amazing time. Excited to go through the Ezio trilogy. Makes me sad always seeing where this series could of gone with modern day and stuff tho and what they were setting up! But grateful we have this masterpiece! Wish PlayStation could get the fps upgrades!!
I loved the moment when you can unlock Altairs armor in AC2. For me it showed the importance of him for the brotherhood. Of course it was a nice feeling too. You played him in AC1 you level him you buy better equipment and at one point in AC2 they refund you the time you spend leveling Altair and Ezio will also get the most powerful armor. I just loved the step and wished they would keep doing it as running gag
Hmm I feel like Ezio is kind of one note. Replaying it I was disappointed by how thin of a character Ezio actually is. He is kind of a chosen one and I remember him having a lot more depth when I first played it. Idk maybe that is just me. But we have characters like Arthur Morgan now who make Ezio look incredibly one dimensional in comparison. I realize I am probably in the minority on this one tho.
I remember this was my first mainline Assassins Creed (I played the Nintendo DS prequel before any of them), and I vividly remember every detail of my first time getting the game. Thanks to Xbox games with gold, it opened my love for this series.
I remember being so impressed with how good the combat feels compared to the first game. I should play this one again really. It's been a good few years
Can confirm. I played AC2 for the very first time this year. It's one of the first video games I've played from beginning to end. Genuinely enjoyable game.
AC2 is definitely one of the best games I've played, and this video brought up great points about it👍🏻 However, I have to be a little critical about this. Atleast speaking from my personal experience, the collecting of feathers was really boring. Trying to find them is painful enough, and even with a guide it feels very boring. And on top of that, what do you get as a reward? The Auditore cape which makes you infamous everywhere, and you can't lower it. Does not seem like a good reward in my opinion. Another thing that felt like a phase breaker was the codex pages. Thankfully there were not too many of them (I think it was around 24) but I remember I did 3 of them at beginning and thought "This is boring imma skip this" just to find out at the end of the game that I have to go through them all. But other than those parts, I think the game was fantastic. Sure these are my personal opinions but I have a feeling I'm not the only one with these thoughts.
I'm right in the middle of this game for the first time. It's great. I didn't think I would enjoy working backwards soooo far (I started with Odyssey, then Valhalla, then Origins. I finished Brotherhood a week or so ago, and that's why I'm right now in the middle of AC2, having a freaking blast.
The music in AC2 is the heart & soul of the franchise for me. It represents the very best of the series. Just timeless & beautiful. AC:Rouge has a very similar melody 🤌 Probably am looking at the Ezio trilogy through rose colored glasses, lol, but Ubi will never be able to recapture that "lighting in a bottle" formula. AC2 is just so special
I always replay the ezio trilogy every couple of month, and has a special place in my heart as my first AC game. Sometimes I forget these games are a decade old, not to mention they're certainly more fun and engaging that newer games like Valhalla.
The first time I played AC2 was just after I played Brotherhood (my first AC game) and I didn't enjoy, it felt stiff by comparison. But, I recently replayed most of the AC games (got bored about halfway through unity, so I stopped) and AC2 was the most enjoyable by far.
What also was hilarious was pickpocketing a ton of npc’s and knock them all out when they try to hit you, you end up with a whole street full of moaning rolling npc’s. Or push a npc with a sweeper cleaner and pick it up, u can use it as a weapon lmao.
I always go back and forth between Ac2 and Brotherhood being my favorites of the series, but honestly, I think Ac2 truly takes the crown. Everything about it is just so good
I would say also that AC franchise will forever be something i love, because in every new title you can clearly see the research the develpoer made. Cultural aspects and historical facts are really accurate, the music and the visuals are stunning and you can easily feel immersed in those places and times
So, controversial opinion here: this game is not good actually. Being janky, repetitive, sometimes awkward is one thing. It's from 2009. But there's so much nonsense that causes the biggest ludo-narrative disonnance I've ever seen. That being said, I played this game back then, when it was released on PC. I loved it. I adored it. Was a huge surprise after the first one. Really, it made me an AC fanatic. But replaying it today just wasn't the same (noted, I played the Ezio Collection this time). You are not an assassin in this game. You're a bad hitman, that usually just kills everyone in a swordfight, since stealth is basically not an option. Traversal around the cities is tedious. The amount of guards and their behaviour just breaks any immersion. Also the side missions and collectibles are completely out of place if you give them any thought. Like why are assassin tombs guarded by templars (if they're even templars, sometimes really hard to tell to whom they're working for)? What's the point of million assassination contract, being the personal hitman for the Medici? Why the Templar lairs? There's not even a mention about them, or why they're important. Not to mention how the mission structure just breaks the flow of the story.
THAT TITLE SCREEN. IT STILL GIVES ME CHILLS. They started Ezio’s story so beautifully, and little did I know that moment started one of the most enjoyable stories I’ve ever played.
One thing I really think makes the assassin tombs stand out in AC2 is that they are arguably where that Prince of Persia DNA really shows itself the most, and they are an absolute blast (what a coincidence, considering AC is a franchise about tapping into the DNA of our long-gone ancestors).
well you`ve done it, you got me to finally sit down and play throught this game. I`ve previously only played the first game and brotherhood all the way through, but i really appreciate brotherhood so much more after playing the second. Since ive played brotherhood am now moving on to revelations, you bastard ive finally been bitten by the AC bug.
The greatest part ever.... So atmospheric and cozy... I still think that the plot of this part is the most colorful and emotional... It's nice to watch how a real man grows out of the boy Ezio, who felt all the pain of this life and didn't give up...
I replayed this since my first time playing. And Ezio has become one of, if not, my favorite Assassin in the franchise. The story, the charisma, “the truth”, and so many other things I missed out on my first play through when I was a kid. I’m looking forward to replaying AC 3 for the first time since it came out, it was my first AC game.
playing this also got me thinking how I really don't need these games to be remastered. don't touch 'em. they feel great especially with next-gen fps upgrades 😏
It was one of the first ac games i ever played
they age so well, especiallky movement
ezio collection is technically a remaster, not a good one but still
Shame the fanbase ruined the franchise, not Ubisoft, but the fanbase, complaining it's diferent, complaining if you like a game other than 2 or Black Flag, they're sooo anoying!
The Ezio collection is a remaster though.
I still remember being 11 years old and following a guide to find the feathers like it was yesterday. Fantastic work man 👍
Heck, I still look up maps for the feathers, I've 100% this particular game like 10 times
I did that last year when I played it for the 9th time. I love this game.

Fuckin love this game. Back in the day it was so revolutionary. The white Animus colours and everything looked new and innovative, truly a one of a kind game, back when Ubisoft actually had passion for Assassin's Creed.
Oh shutup....what a disrespectful thing to say given the hard work hundreds of ubisoft dev do on each entry. Grow up.

As an Italian who really likes history I want to add that the contextualisation for the game is top tier. The characters are great (reading what Machiavelli wrote to then meet him in game was amazing), the historical context, general vibe and events are very accurate (with some liberties of course), and the city are amazingly recreated.

You also see him dying too which broke me

I was almost 20 when this came out and a decade or so later, it still gives me chills when I hear that score. This is one of those games that made me sad when I finished because I didn't want it to end. They captured renaissance Italy so well that it didn't feel like I was playing it, it felt more like I was actually Desmond living in that time period vicariously through Ezio.
I'm now 20 and just recently got into gaming because of my boyfriend. The first game I played complete on my own was assassin's creed 2 and I immediately fell in love with it, so hopefully in some years I'll feel the exact same about this game as you do
@@snoason1930 Oh, boy. You'll have one hell of a time with the other AC games. Good playing!
Agreed
@N7Andy yeah he made me read all of them and I thoroughly enjoyed it
In hindsight, what impressed me the most about this game is how authentical they recreated the cities, the buildings in particular. A few years after I played it, I was on a school trip to Tuscany and among other towns, we also visited Florence. And the buildings especially the big ones like the Santa Maria del Fiore looked exactly like they appear in the game.
Did you feel inclined to start climbing?
@@torquemada2 Yeah, somewhat. But I guess the Italians aren't so keen of people climbing and jumping across their roofs anymore since there was no way to get up there easily. Furthermore, there weren't any carts filled with petals or straw you could jump into.
I went to Florence a couple of days ago and I feel like the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio were way smaller in the game than in real life
A bit late, but a friend of my parents was a student in Italy, Florence for like 2 years.
@@kimsnightmare The games still have repititive missions so that solved nothing .
I just replayed it after a decade and your so right about games telling us whats immoral.

Fun fact:
I watched my dad play this game on PS3 back in the day
And if you were my dad playing this and happened to leave the door open, letting me in the same room, the phrase you would hear the most would be
"Dad, use the poison knives!"
Fast forward a few years later the game showed up for free on uplay, so I got it.
Fast forward to about a month ago, when I continued the game where I left off all those years ago (Additional info: When I got the game for free, I played a small chunk of it) and discovered,
THAT THE POISON KNIVES WEREN'T EVEN KNIVES
THEY WERE HIDDEN BLADES
Oh, and wanna hear something FUNNY?
I DIDN'T EVEN USE THEM UNTIL I HUNTED FOR THE CODEX PAGES
AND THAT WAS ONLY TO TRY THEM OUTTTTTT
But overall,
Whenever I open the weapon select, I get showered with nostalgia.
And that's good
love stories like this! thanks for sharing 😁
Loved how Misterious every mission felt, like I was finding people to find other people to kill, plus, the game felt like a vacation in italy

The ending was immaculate. It really opened everything up like wtf Juno or whatever her name was was talking to me?!!😳😳
Yea but why didn’t ezio kill the pope.

The thing I love about this game and AC as a whole is how it blends real life people and event with fiction so flawlessly
Damn, this game gave me chills when I played it as 10 year old.
I'm playing the Ezio collection right now and his saga hits way deeper now, especially the AC2
This game will always hold a special place in my heart. If they ever gave it a remaster I’d play it in a heartbeat
If they do it'll be full of microtransactions and level gating, knowing ubisoft

C'mon, like it's literally nostalgic 😭
But your presentation about ac 2 is just ✨
My first (and favorite) AC game was Unity, and from then I had only played III, Sndicate, Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla for about 10 hours each, but recently bought all the ac games on a sale and have been playing them one by one.
I replayed AC 2 before traveling to Florence. It was still so good and also I was hyped to visit these places one week after

Literally the only thing wrong with this game is that you couldn't replay story missions.

Can confirm. I played AC2 for the very first time this year. It's one of the first video games I've played from beginning to end. Genuinely enjoyable game.
AC2 is definitely one of the best games I've played, and this video brought up great points about it👍🏻
However, I have to be a little critical about this.
I’m playing it right now for the first time 😂
Enjoy! I love this game.
i'm so jealous
@@jayveeeee I just played it too for the first time
The opening title scene with your brother on the rooftops is probably my favorite opening moment ever. I get absolute chills when rewatching that.
Let's face it, most people who hate Ubisoft, probably hate Ubisoft because they were AC fans 15 years ago.
back when ac was a passion project and this was the best game of its time by far.
The music in AC2 is the heart & soul of the franchise for me. It represents the very best of the series. Just timeless & beautiful. AC:Rouge has a very similar melody 🤌
Probably am looking at the Ezio trilogy through rose colored glasses, lol, but Ubi will never be able to recapture that "lighting in a bottle" formula. AC2 is just so special
I always replay the ezio trilogy every couple of month, and has a special place in my heart as my first AC game. Sometimes I forget these games are a decade old, not to mention they're certainly more fun and engaging that newer games like Valhalla.
The full trilogy every couple months? D:
The first time I played AC2 was just after I played Brotherhood (my first AC game) and I didn't enjoy, it felt stiff by comparison.
But, I recently replayed most of the AC games (got bored about halfway through unity, so I stopped) and AC2 was the most enjoyable by far.
Try BlackFlag
@@jei3970 he said he played them all until unity so that include blackflag
Script is so so well written, keep it up mate!
AC2 and ACBrotherhood are the best AC games. Along with Blackflag…
What also was hilarious was pickpocketing a ton of npc’s and knock them all out when they try to hit you, you end up with a whole street full of moaning rolling npc’s.
Or push a npc with a sweeper cleaner and pick it up, u can use it as a weapon lmao.
In 09 I was 4 years into the Marine Corps. This was the first game I played after my first deployment to AFG
"Developed a really bad Italian accent", eh, it got me through Italian Classes in college
I always go back and forth between Ac2 and Brotherhood being my favorites of the series, but honestly, I think Ac2 truly takes the crown. Everything about it is just so good
I played it for the first time like a year or 2 ago as I got into AC from odyssey and I thought it was such a good game despite how old it is.
You still have roof things in ac2
They started Ezio’s story so beautifully, and little did I know that moment started one of the most enjoyable stories I’ve ever played.
i like unlisted videos
you clicked on my twitter link in the 2.5 seconds it took for me to make it public
here you dropped this 👑
One thing I really think makes the assassin tombs stand out in AC2 is that they are arguably where that Prince of Persia DNA really shows itself the most, and they are an absolute blast (what a coincidence, considering AC is a franchise about tapping into the DNA of our long-gone ancestors).
AC 2 is the most overrated ac game but it is still a solid game
well you`ve done it, you got me to finally sit down and play throught this game.
3:01 *"Fun as hell WITHOUT the modern day"* is a good way to describe *any* AC game if we're being honest.
