I used to play this very, very loudly in my car back in HS. I had a pair of house speakers hooked up in the back seat and it that clicking drum beat made me think I was blowing the speakers at first. Good times. Lots of Tolkein references in this song if you look at he lyrics. This and the Battle of Evermore are heavily influenced by Tolkien.
I was the features editor at a newspaper in the '90s and we used to ask visiting celebrities, like rock stars, what they were reading or their favorite movie, etc. Ace Frehley of Kiss said he was reading Lord of the Rings because he wanted to understand Led Zeppelin better. Here's an example.
This is my favorite Led Zepplin song too. Unofficially referred to as "Bilbo's Song" by some, Ramble On is an homage to "The Hobbit" Bilbo Baggins of J.R.R. Tolkien's' Lord of the Rings'. His baby (a girl so fair) is not a girl at all; it's the one ring of power. Bilbo finds it "in the darkest depths of Mordor I met a girl so fair, but Gollum and the evil one (Sauron) crept up and slipped away with her." Misty Mountain Hop is another awesome Tolkien inspired Zep song.
Many moons ago when I was a teenager I worked nightshifts, few benefits, one being I was the only one in the office...so I could play music aloud. 4am when it gets hard....I would play Led Zep 2 (whole lotta love, lemon song, many more...and THIS). It's fun to listen to JPJ's isolated bassline from Ramble On, on You Tube. Also, lines taken from Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit of which he was a big fan (of the books, back then). This is absolutely a killer track; always loved it.
So many Zep songs sounded, at first listen, like something from a distant elegant planet. Transmissions I was lucky enough to stumble across while spinning the dial.......
One of my top five LZ songs. I wrote the lyrics to this song on my college dorm room wall as they were tearing down the building at the end of the school year.
Oh my God guys you are taking me so far back when I was 15 my parents bought me a Panasonic quadrasound stereo I laid in the floor of my bedroom one speaker in each corner and I listen to this album and to Pink Floyd into The Moody blues and my wife changed forever my mind opened my creativity started blooming I started thinking for myself taking new adventures mentally and physically. Music was an integral part of my life and remains so I'm so glad you guys can experience this now with boss headphones great stereo systems now you're getting a taste of what I've been eating for 50 years. Lol you guys need to keep rambling on!!!! Enjoy your reactions as always. 💕
Yes it's true. I think Dr Who played a Led Zep track to the inhabitants of planet 'Zing21' ..which freaked them out. It was the year 3074. Apparently he was disciplined by the Timelords Council. :)
John Paul Jones has always been my hero from the day I picked up my first Fender Jazz Bass... I was 14 in 1969... I 'm gunna be 68 in a few weeks JPJ is still my hero.... Thumbs up for another great reaction!
Great reaction! I say that probably because Ramble On has always been my favourite Zepplin tune with no exception and for the same reasons you were pointing out… The very same reasons. Outstanding! Thank you.
Remember riding my motorbike, on my way to work in the early dawn, passing through a stretch of road, dark woods on either side - I was immersed in the book, ‘Lord of the Rings’ at the time - this track always brings back that (semi-magical) remembrance of youth to me.
Couldn't wait to see what you both thought of this one! For decades I said I couldn't possibly pick a favorite Zeppelin song. I would've been hard pressed to even pick a top 5. But in the last couple of years I've realized that "Ramble On" is the one that has consistently played on my emotions & that if I could only hear ONE of their songs ever again...this is the one I'd have to listen to for the last time. It has always transported me to a faraway place in another distant time. And it still does. Always have to listen with my eyes closed while being very still, letting it take me away. I'm thrilled that you both loved it. It has an innate magic & you felt it. Thank you for letting this music in. 💙☮🌿💙☮🌿💙☮🌿💙☮🌿💙
Hard to pick a favorite, but I believe my top 5 are: Ramble On, Goin' to California, When the Levee Breaks, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, & of course Whole Lotta Love. (And no, Stairway to Heaven is not even close for me)
I love how you guys really pick up on Zeppelin's nuances and details, and have actually become fans 54 years after the fact. It's a joy and fascinating to see/hear your reactions.
Based upon your reaction you might like In My Time of Dying. Ramble On is a fave of mine for literally 45 years. I think it's a masterpiece of a pop song. Critics pooh poohed Jimmy Page's overdub of guitars. This song has something like 16 different guitar tracks layered in, Who cares. Masterpiece.
I was forever a fan of LZ when they first came out, when I was a freshman in high school. I took up playing bass guitar in a couple of garage bands during that time. This was and still is one of my most favorite "tasty" bass lines. Listen to the song and concentrate on the bass to appreciate the comment. Truly appreciatiing music involves training yourself to listen to all the parts and elements together and individually at the same time. It makes music a spiritual human experience.
Every Led Zeppelin song that you will ever listen to will be your favorite Led Zeppelin song.
That is truth!
...well, except for Hotdog...
I feel the same way about Tool also
Excellent!

Over The Hills And Far Away 😎
Ramble On has always been my favorite Zep song. Over The Hills And Far Away is another.
My favorite Led Zep song by far. Rock on Airplay Beats
This is a considered a masterpiece. Sit back and enjoy. Thanks for posting.
It's always a great time to get The Led out ... Great reaction
Excellent Reaction... Thank You... Ramble On... Please!!!!!
So many Zep songs sounded, at first listen, like something from a distant elegant planet. Transmissions I was lucky enough to stumble across while spinning the dial.......
Ramble On the favourite of so many .. All favourites for me !!
If I was stuck on an island and could only have one album, this would be the one.
Best driving song of all time. Ramble On!
My favorite Led Zeppelin song is usually the last one I’ve heard.
EVERYBODY'S FAVORITE LED ZEPPELIN SONG....(YES)!!!!!!
Yes, this certainly goes in my top ten, along with The Lemon Song, which for me, may be a top Zep tune, top three for sure.
Outstanding bassline there. JPJ is funky!
OH ! YEAH !...RAMBLELZ ON 👍☄️💫😆 ❤️🇺🇸
Led Zeppelin's music will forever be timeless.
Yes it's true. I think Dr Who played a Led Zep track to the inhabitants of planet 'Zing21'
..which freaked them out.
Simple. Led Zeppelin is top on the best bands ever. And the best music. And innovation. Etc
Nice one Guys! A handful of decades later it still kicks ass.
Great reaction! I say that probably because Ramble On has always been my favourite Zepplin tune with no exception and for the same reasons you were pointing out… The very same reasons. Outstanding! Thank you.
I love your channel Bros! Especially your appreciation for two of the greatest bands of all time Zeppelin and the Dan!
Amazing reaction I felt the first time I heard it a long time ago boss band
Bottom line here is that Led Zeppelin are THE Greatest band ever! Rock on guys!!!🤘😁❤️
(And no, Stairway to Heaven is not even close for me)
Saw them in Atlanta Fulton County Stadiom 1973...I have been to a lot of Concerts... and this was one of the Best!
One of my favorite outros from Zep. Thanks gents.
My favorite rock band of all time. I still rick this at the crib
This and In My Time of Dying are my all time fave Zep songs.
Fool in the rain Bonhams drum groove is dope as hell
I was forever a fan of LZ when they first came out, when I was a freshman in high school. I took up playing bass guitar in a couple of garage bands during that time. This was and still is one of my most favorite "tasty" bass lines. Listen to the song and concentrate on the bass to appreciate the comment. Truly appreciatiing music involves training yourself to listen to all the parts and elements together and individually at the same time. It makes music a spiritual human experience.
This song is magical. It's one of my favs too.
