I watched a number of his games that were streamed this weekend. It was a very non-standard Necron army which threw off a lot of the game play of the other players because they were not familiar with it Matt did a great job using his army with incredible effect. I'd imagine after this weekend players will either be looking to duplicate his army or look for ways of slowing them down. The price of Necron Monoliths shot up. lol
Reminds me of what John did with his vanguard Ultramarines at WCW. Very mobile counter meta army. No doubt something similar will now happen where everyone copies the army and half the units go out of stock as a result 😂
Yeah after that, everyone is running vanguard etc. it’s a tricksy list but also very cp dependent too. Has to use at least one per turn to put the centurions back into deep strike. The necron one does it for free.
It was a very cool list, and he ran it very well. When the Aeldari blew up his Monolith (not in the final), he didn't lose hope. He scrapped his way back to a win.

Personally i prefer a more shooty&resilient army Vs big balls monolith back line dropping high skill ceiling. Its nice we have detachments that are playable for both.
Hey at the beginning of the video you explained that the army can use deep strike when deploying in the reinforcement step of the movement phase. This is 100% supported by the FAQ and rules commentary saying if you deploy in the reinforcement step, you are treated as coming from SR, and page 2 deep strike says if you come from SR and have the DS rule that you can choose to use the DS rule. Why are there so many people who say Draigo from the grey knights cant get his charge bonus from teleport assault, which is the same as necrons, even when it's been upheld that grey knights and necrons cam deploy via deep strike as explained above?
Teleport Assault and Hyperphasing are NOT the same ability! Hyperphasing specifically puts a unit into Strategic reserve, which then lets it deep strike back on the table (if it has it). Teleport Assault just repositions the unit 9" away from enemies - it is neither strategic reserve nor deep strike.
So what abort warpspiders and swooping hawks. They have deepstrike and Can be put into Strategic reserve from the start of the game. Way vant they ude there deepstrike agility turn one?
Imagine being Riley Davis and bringing your TSons to the biggest 40k tournament and seeing that Hypercrypt list in round one. I probably would have cried.
@TacticalTortoise Agreed. Definitely having more fun with Chaos Knights. It really didn't feel like they changed that much in the last Balance Dataslate, but it must have been just a little too much because it has been just a slog to play TSons since then.
My friend plays t-sons and yeah the requirement to have your units on the table top just to earn cp sucks. Like I’m usually steam rolling him by turn 3 because he has to expose his infantry and I capitalize. MVB’s are very points expensive same with Magnus. Art of War mentioned making cabal points a fixed amount vs a pool which would help keep the ritual use in check and allow t-sons to be less restrictive army building wise.
Again GW started bloating the game with new rules only to be overrided by other rules.. so one need to read 2 books only to figure out afterwards that rules cancel each other... I think they will only nerf number of units to be teleported to max 2, as in most other armies up and downies limited to 2. Unless baked into datasheet like scouts, or maybe they will just employ master switch similar to "spam max 3"
@@IsacCivil I think his point was you don't really have to try. How could u possibly have a hole big enough for a 6x6in model to fit in? ESPECIALLY since you're fighting this army with everything teleporting. It's a good point to bring up because it's pretty ridiculous that it happened
Am I missing something? I thought you weren't allowed to stand on objective markers anymore in 10th. But in all the footage you see players with models directly on top of the center of the markers.
Can you explain in more detail why units with deepstrike can come in on BR 1? Normally even deepstrike units cannot arrive turn 1, so why does this bypass it? The detatchment rule simply states to remove them from the board and place into strategic reserves, where all normal reserves rules would apply and deepstrike would only change the position it can be placed?
The rule to not arrive turn 1 only applies to units that start the game in deep strike but if you have a rule that allows you to go into deep strike after the start of the game then you can come down in your movement phase turn 1. IE you go second and pick up the unit at the end of your opponent’s 1st turn to drop down in your turn 1
Does the GSC strategem that allows you to pick up units similarly allow you to drop down bottom of turn 1? (all the units you use it on have deep strike)
Too true. All Grey Knights need is un-killable massively under-costed C'tan models and they wouldn't lose a single game either. GW at it's finest not playing their own game.
Wait, you can run 3 transcendent ctan? I thought being a character meant you could only have one. That sounds broken and I'm a Necron player. Then again you can have 3 hexmarks.
What allowes the monolith to arrive in turn 1? Is it because of the strata or because of the fact that it was on the table in turn 1? Hypercrypt says place the units in reserves. So i have played it so that i only are allowed to bring back stuff in turn 2.
Apparently it’s written somewhere (haven’t checked myself yet but multiple people have stated it) that if it started on the table, goes into reserve at the end of your opponents first turn, it’s able to come down in your next reinforcement phase (aka your turn one) overriding deep striking units not coming in until turn 2. If it was already in reserves however, it’s only able to come in from turn 2 onwards
Units repositioning using Deep Strike can arrive in BR1 as long as they started on the table. Stuff that begins the game in deep strike, or repositions using Strategic Reserves is still restricted from arriving in the first round.
It's in the rules commentary - units that begin on the table and reposition using Deep Strike can ignore the BR1 limit. Strategic Reserves are still limited *unless* they can deep strike.
