Rei is one of the best character designs for me I've ever seen and one of my favorite characters from video games. Since I saw him back then in the late 90' before the game released in a video game Magazin

The disrespect to Garr. I’ve never completed a game without the big lummox. Plus next to Momo he’s the only party member you absolutely have to take through some really tough dungeons and might be under levelled if you’re not using him.

Glad to see BoF III getting the recognition it deserves. My favorite way to cruise through the early game is by maxxing out Bunyan's skills with Ryu when he's by himself near the beginning of the game. If you give him frost from Mygas, you can double xp from the Tar Men outside of Wyndia and skyrocket your levels. This, plus focus and super combo, and getting shadow walk from Meryleep, makes Ryu basically unstoppable until the end game.
I remember when was younger actually teaching Ryu Aura from Ladon so he didn't haven't to spend the ap from dragon form and still hit like a nuke, it was how I took down Archmage and Berserker
Nina is my favorite character in this series. As a young girl growing up and playing the series I have always looked up to her and enjoyed her growth throughout each game. This is by far her worst iteration but I totally would not blame her. Magic just sucks in this game. It would have been better if she had most of Ryu's curative and assist spells given she has the best AP growth and speed on par with Rei. Momo would have made more sense as the offensive caster of the party.
Ever since i saw a playthrough of this game 10 years ago, I've been wanting to play it soooo bad. Sadly like you said, Capcom seems to be determined to let it die 😢
It's one of my favorite games. If Capcom did a true remaster with some quality of life improvements and character rebalance it would easily become a million seller on a system like the Switch.
Find any way to play this game. It's so damn good. The sprites are amazing, it's so colorful, the jazzy music fits insanely well, dragon gene transformations are so fun to use, and it has the best fishing mini game still to this day
I would list them differently, after multiple playthroughs and lots of time spent analysing the game: God Tier: - Ryu. Myrmidon is OP in this game, outdamaging Peco and Garr about fivefold if you account for it being extremely fast and being able to reliably get two turns in a row. He has access to both healing and support magic and overall high stats everywhere, meaning he is also flexible. Ryu is so far ahead of everyone else, I would put him alone in the tier. High Tier: - Rei. He's a swiss army knife and is excellent at that. His naturally high speed couples itself well with Meryleep and the Chain formation, making Ryu even more of a killing machine than he is. At lower levels, he is even almost required if you want to tackle the Container Yard superbosses. He learns Speed and has Pilfer, two of the strongest abilities in the game. He can also be paired up with an Influence-r to go full Berserk mode with Weretiger, effectively switching his role if need be. - Momo. Without Shadowwalk, I would have put her a tier lower, but still kept the same order. Momo, like Rei, has high speed. She is also the only party member besides Ryu who can heal and has access to more than one buff move. Besides that, Shadowwalk Momo is incredible. This ability allows her to bypass accuracy checks whenever she attacks for a cheap 8AP cost whilst also guaranteeing crits. Mid Tier: - Peco. The most overrated character in this game. Sorry Peco fans... His main weakness is that he's a one trick pony. His complete lack of speed make him a liability in the late-to-endgame, where enemies tend to inflict status effects that are not poison, which Peco gets annihilated by. That being said, Fahl Peco is still very strong and you absolutely can win the game with him. His damage output is quite good, but the characters above can easily outdamage him with little setup, while also being more flexible. - Nina. Probably the weirdest placement here. In the endgame, Nina is objectively the worst character due to how broken (in the bad sense) the magic system is. But Nina only really sucks in the second half of the game. In the first one, she and Peco are the MVPs. Probably even moreso than Ryu himself. Unfortunately, her high speed is insignificant as she is outclassed by Ryu, Momo and especially Rei when it comes to beeing speedy and useful. Sorry Nina. Good thing Nina from BoFIV is one of the strongest characters in the entire series. Low Tier: - Garr. No, Garr isn't that bad. He's the weakest overall, but that mostly comes from the fact that, just like Peco, he's slow. While Peco has got a high reprisal rate as well as weak regen to compensate for that, Garr has nothing. Garr also suffers from not having the insane stat growth Peco has. Truly sad.
@@HighSteaks_Gaming The damage formula for spells uses INT instead of strength, however, the amount of damage due to INT is capped at 200 - an amount you reach roughly at the midpoint of the journey. Ryu (because of dragons) 2. Rei (playing this challenge makes you realise how op weretiger and speed is) 3. Momo (Assist magic carries) 4. Peco (The speed screws him over) 5. Garr (Dollar store peco) 6. Nina (Dragon Lord is almost impossible to do, it took me like 50 attempts. Endgame is an absolute nightmare)
I always slap Momo under Delozne to sort her acc out. The real challging part of the game of in chidlhood, keeping Ryu/Teepo's level enough to hoover up Magnu's spells . Do you think you will review some fan mods of the rpgs eventually?
Trust me I thought Nina was underrated too until I played a Solo Straight Character Challenge with her (playing with 1 character, no masters & no stat boosters). To put it simply. It was a nightmare. It's the hardest thing to do in the game even harder than a lowest level challenge.
I usually agree with your tier lists but this one I take an issue with Momo and Peco. I think Momo should be slightly above Peco and the reason why is because she's the only character besides Ryu who can AOE heal and this frees him up to be your damage dealer. Ryu is the best damage dealer in the game and you don't want him wasting his turns healing.
@@locloudanerpg that's quite a great team and I hadn't considered using Peco up front as a tank. I always used Rei for his high speed, dude can throw out items like nobody's business or deal damage if no items need used. Not sure which team is more optimal.

Do NOT put Nina under Deis! Not only is it pointless since most of what she teaches are spells that Nina can get from leveling up, she also makes Nina EXTREMELY fraile. If anything, have her learn under Fahl. He'll make her much tougher and she won't really lose much as a caster. If ANYONE should learn under Deis, it's Garr. The big guy has NOTHING outside of fire attacks, and he has next to no AP. Garr would become far more useful as a character if he had more to offer, and Deis gives him just that. I would have Peco learn under the Castle's Head Cook so his critical hit rate goes up. Momo would learn under D'lonzo for better attack accuracy.
