- Hi guys! Welcome back to my Breath of Fire binge, where I’m playing through and creating loads of videos for all the games in the series.
I’ve just finished up with Breath of Fire 3, so now it’s time for some facts! This video is going to look at the facts, trivia, secrets and easter eggs that you probably didn’t know about Breath of Fire III. Let me know which facts you found the most interesting, or if I missed anything good.

I have played it 3 times, when I was 18 and can't read english language, and when I was 24 after I finished my uni, lastly at 34 after I submitted my PhD thesis. Now I am 40 and I want to play it again🌷
i played it when i was 7 when i was 19, when i was 26/27 (officially finished it then) now 30, gonna try to get a full complete soon
I have played, 4 a long time. I stuck, while I am completing my phd. After that I wanna play bof4
A sad and good game. Played it back in the day on my PS1. Loved the fishing and the characters..
I really think 3 was the best in the series. 4 and 5 were interesting with the split storyline and the entirely new underground scenario respectively, but 3 was a classic.
3 Was the best all-round experience.
3 was an amazing game. The creators did a hell of a job sticking with the old school rpg setup while at the same time giving it a facelift with enhanced graphics and other small touches. I lost count of the hours I spent farming the orange dudes for the power food before the desert. My main character hit haarrdd!!

@@orochikaiba yeah 5 took place entirely underground. I won’t spoil the story but it was a very unique take and a vast departure from the normal RPG formula.

I kind of remember some neat others like
- Adult Ryu's magic stance being the Hadoken,
- Ecarl the frog (which is Jean's japanese name in BoF2) being seen in jail then as a painter to reference his appearance in Bof2,
- many NPCs being from races that appeared in both BoF and 2,
- I believe Disembowel, the skill Bunyan teaches you and used by assassins at the end of the game ressembles Shun-Goku-Satsu, Akuma's technique in Street Fighter
- The books in Wyndia castle and the wall shown in the intro are clues that the game takes place many years directly after BOF and BOF2, the wall shows the fight against Myria while the books talk about the great dragon war when dragons planned to dominate the world and were beaten by the whole world (Ryu's party in BOF), then every race began to lose their special powers (as we see in BOF2)
I was looking for someone who would point out he skipped a lot of other cameos like Ekaru being Jean Japanese name and he being a painter this game, plus that armadillo master who's drunk and takes care of whoever you leave behind during the tournament, or Ox and Mogu in the Intro.
Speaking of the Intro, you actually see the mural before fighting Juno! That town is supposed to be Dorgan/Dologany from the first two games.
And the first game narrates of a war that lead Myria/Tyr into being sealed in the first place, the creation of the Keys, why Bleu/Deis is sleeping, why there are so many ruins and so many few people with the power of the dragon (three if you count Ryu after the Giant) and so on.
In resume, dragons waged war over the goddess power and nearly killed themselves and destroyed the world, until a hero came with allies, used keys and sealed said goddesses. In this game Deis (a Master) and Myria are sisters.
There’s also a unique profile graphic for the Dragon Pup form that Ryu has when he’s broken out of the chrysm in the mine. The problem is, you can’t access the menu and thus can’t see the image via normal means.

Do anyone know what timeline 4th is? I know theres teepo and rei appearance after you beat the game but I just dont get anything related to 3

Hey there. This is bmecoli, the original script dumper for BoF3. You wouldn't believe the amount of hype there was when I found all that hidden dialog so long ago. It's pretty damn amazing what was left out of the game, not to mention that despite this, it was all localized. It also lead to figuring out how to get the fountain pen in the game, so that was pretty cool too. Glad you enjoyed the hidden content, though!

@@HellFireRPGs it was. I did some dumping for BoF4, but I couldn't find a collaborator to organize it, sadly. I don't seem to recall finding anything hidden, though. Maybe I'll go through and organize it myself someday.

The monsters Scylla and Charybdis that you fight in the volcano comes from Greek mythology and is not widely known as the origin of the expression "caught between a rock and a hard place", or "the lesser of two evils".
Scylla was a multi-headed hydra beast on the cliffs of Sicily (rock), where Charybdis was a sea-monster which caused giant whirlpools (hard place), residing in the Strait of Messina.
That fight's interesting since the BGM changes to Donden which is used for relevant brood battles, indicating that Scylla and Charybdis, or maybe the old man, are dragons.
My favorite fact are the weird additions to the monster art sprites based on the angle of the camera when you fight them. Orcs have a braided pony tail with a ribbon when viewed from the back and Magmaite has butt cheeks when also viewed from the back. You can kill Bailo and Sunder it takes a cheat device, it doesn't change the game and you don't get any items.
Holy shit, I learned A LOT. I completely missed the Capcom characters. Or even the sea port city - I had no idea about their names. You CRUSHED this video my dude!

I just finished the hard mode patch of the game an hour ago and found this video. Doraemon? Amazing.

This is hands down my favorite game of all time play and beat at least once a year. Getting that royal sword at the end from the random drop was probably the most frustrating part but still damn enjoyable.
The only one I missed myself was the Doraemon during dragon transformation. Well, I guess I didn't know about the naming contest either.
The first Balio & Sunder fight being winnable rumor has been pretty definitively disproved years ago. It was a big deal on the forums back in the day. People went so far as to use invincibility codes on the party and let the fight run for days on end. Years later one user in particular began to really get into the game's file structure to make a "hard mode" patch that rebalanced a lot of things, and I'm pretty sure he confirmed that fight can't be won with the hard data.
This is one of my top 3 jrpg games, I used to go back through it every few years. I think I've gone through the game 5-6 times now, finally got myself a "master" save file the last time about 10 years ago. It was the first run that I got a Goo King Sword to drop.
I like BoF III story more than IV and above. Sad and wonderfully well played storyline.
I like the fact that you can get items from places you shouldn't be able to visit

Although Ryu is considered a silent protagonist, he does actually have ONE line of dialogue. Can anyone guess what the line is? Here's a hint, he says this one line as a child. Another cool thing, is that if you talk to the eye goo npc at Rei and Teepo's place, he tells you about blinding eye goos will weaken them. However blinding eye goos will also increase their exp by quite a bit. It varies from type to type, but the blinding a regular eye goo will increase it's exp by x10! It's still only 20 exp in the end, but in the beginning of the game it's a great way to earn levels fast.
okay when does this line occur? pretty sure you're full of it or you're mistaking flavor text as a line of dialogue
@@madmatt6454 After escaping from Duana mines and when rei finds Ryu in the forest being attacked by two currs. After defeating the enemies and Rei is walking away, Ryu says his one and only line.

Not only was Stallion's color changed for the PSP release, his Utmost Attack was renamed to "Vortex Wave". I guess Capcom wanted to get rid of the references to Ultraman in the port.
Another fun thing you can see by hacking and using the ability to walk through walls. If you enter Mt Myrneg from the Wyndia side for the first time, it'll put you at the top where Sunder is at, and there's an animation of him taking a pee off the mountaintop(with his back to the camera, so all you see is the first squirt.) Additionally, if you go to any location before you are meant to be there, it's a ghost town. No NPCs. The only 2 exceptions to this are Wyndia for some unknown reason, and the guard who stops you from going into the freighter at Steel Beach. If you try to go to the Wyndia or Dauna regions using the Walk through Walls hack before you beat Nue and change the season to Spring, you get thrown into a random encounter area and spat back into Yraall when you exit it.
I didn't hear about the horse brother situation, but I quickly found out on my own. I always like to grind out my levels early and I really wanted to beat these guys. The same thing happened to me in Legend of Dragoon against the wingly at the arena. I would dish out loads of damage every round while taking next to no damage. I didn't have the patience to see it through... it took far longer than I would have ever expected and I was fairly certain it was impossible to beat at that point.

Also at the start the first guys you fry as. Dragon. If you check the bodies you get a melted blade. Its a little stronger than the dagger lol

Rei's name. Can be found in Ohm's Law in electricity. E.g voltage = current x resistance.
Rei used electric based ability.

I remember seeing a trailer for this game in an issue of Playstation Underground and I was hooked. I watched it over and over until I could get it from Kaybee's Toys! I played through it at least 5 or 6 times over the years and went through the PSP version on my last playthrough.
It's impossible to beat Balio and Sunder in the woods. I used game shark for level and equips. There's no way for this to happen...
It's the same against Garr in the arena.
Yeah I used a game shark too and i had to keep lettting Balio an Sunder hit my guys untill the health ran out....toook forever too.
yeah I actually had to restart the game all over again and tried to beat balio and sunder at the first encounter but even if they are defeated the story didn't change at all, you still gt separated from Rei and Teepo while waking up in the wyndia prison
Wow the easter egg of this game just amaze me ive been played this game 15 times over.
THE MOCHI is not pronounced with hard k, Mo-Khee. but it's pronounced like c in Chiken, Mo-Chee.
Which obviously refers to "mochi", the famous Japanese soft and glutinous rice cake, as the planned function in the game supposed to cure petrification.
Language of the Dolphin:
In the german version they choose "Nordhessisch" as language. Hessen is a part of West Germany. The dolphin said something like "!Idiots, why is there now a light?" "Are you nuts?" I'm gonna eat that lttle ...." and so on.
To choose this language (in german) is rather funny.
In french, he's speaking 'patois' which is a kind of rural language that -do- need subtitles sometimes... but it was hilarious all the same that they proposed a translation for it! XD

Here comes one more thing: Using a gameshark to add the Weretiger ability to Rei in the child chapters reveals, that he has completely functional set of unused sprites for the transformation. It can be argued, that the Weretiger ability was removed early due game balance issues, as it would make the first chapters too easy with the influence skill
I always wondered why Influence was available so early but was essentially useless until later in the game. Influence is useless on enemies and your characters going berserk isn't really a problem so this skill comes off as a joke unless it was meant to have a purpose earlier.
I never really focused or paid much attention to graphics but I always found this game extremely visually pleasing.

I believe the room behind the bed IS accessible if you go back later in the game ( I think I remember going back to grind and pick up chests I missed)
Also I think Bunyan started in BoF2? I think in the JP version he was the guy you took his spot in the fight against Katt

In the German Version of BFIII the Dolphin was a Bavarian German Speaker.
Aslong the Bavarian speak their native German, other Germans couldn't understand xD...
This hits me everytime inside my muscles for "laughing" when i re-run the whole game.

I always wished BoF III had a bigger modding community, but I read on a modder site that the game files of this game were particularly difficult to access or alter. I would have loved to see expansions on this game through modding, like new areas beyond that checkpoint...
Also, I'm curious about how you dug up some of this info? Can you speak to that?

When you rip the sounds of the game, you can find some audio files not used in the game. Remember the demo scene playing automatically when you don't touch any button on title screen ? Well, these files are the narrator's texts read by a japanese voice. So I guess this scene was supposed to be dubbed at a moment but Capcom decided not to use them, for some reason.
What was song at outro? I cant remember it and its now stuck in my head

Chrono Trigger also had money inside unreachable chests in Inns. Maybe it was something normal from debbuging those days, and the robot having text is placeholder so the game doesn't crash when someone actually reaches there somehow. Like Earthbound had it's "Nothing wrong here." whenever you spoke with no one so the command "Talk/Speak to" wouldn't crash the game every twenty seconds.
The Dolphin speaks with a hessian accent in german.

BOF III is my favorite in the series!!!!
This was my first Breath of Fire game man I loved..still have psx disk too. I like the fact Bleu or Deis (or Myra/Tyra sister I forget) first appears humanoid, then snake girl next scene...also she is the only reccuring character that you only get to play in the first. Also NUDE...and only gets a Teen rating.
If you use cheat codes to reduce Balio and Sunder's hp to 0 as well as a cheat that gives them every status ailment, they will die to poison damage and thus can be defeated that way. They give out 37xp, 184 zenni and do indeed drop both the broad sword and asbestos armor.
German version of the game has also dialect for the Dolphin which is funny as the dialect was from my home region
Do you know why some versions have Ginseng and others have Vodka Shot?
I would reset it just so I could see them when I first played this game. And by reset I mean I would usually get killed cause I was super under leveled and had shut equipment lol.
Another occult fact is that Final Fantasy IX programmers noted how frustrating was to successfully steal in this game and decided to do something even more frustrating for that game.
Well, it doesn't surprise me, FFIX is not a very good game after all.

We never knew about the mysterious Dragon Woman that gives you the stone in the Mines when you play as Ryu as an adult. It´s rumored to be his mother

Actually Nina and Fou-Lu were going to appear in MvC3, Fou-Lu was scrapped quickly, but Nina was cut during the final stages of development, she was almost finished, and her super power was going to feature all the Ninas in the series.
Hoping this is available of vita or ps3 cos I really fancy a replay of this game

Did you figure it out? You need to break camp on the overworld and do it at the logbook inside the tent.
