Hey everyone! As of me writing this, I'm currently in one of my classes so maybe not the best place to learn that this video for some reason became my most successful video on this godforsaken channel (given that my heartbeat has now spiked from panicking and such) In any event, thank you all so much for viewing, watching, and liking my video. I am also really, truly flattered by those of you who subscribed to my channel :) I'm gonna start reading and replying some of your comments right now but in any event, many thanks too all of you.
You forgot the part where the unwieldy password system uses both Hiragana and Katakana. in a game which exclusively uses katakana everywhere else. In a sci-fi game where loanwords for modern are extremely common. And those are supposed to be written in Katakana to distinguish them from standard Japanese. So basically ALL of the dialogue is grammatically incorrect if not completely incoherent for NO REASON.
i remember this from tv tropes so bad it’s good page. remember, aspiring indie devs, your quirky earthbound inspired jrpg with themes of depression could never stoop to this game’s level of unplayability and incoherency
What's sad is that this is the EXACT game JonTron would've reviewed back when he did video game videos like...7 years ago at this point? I still think that Takeshi's Challenge video is fire
Well, this is a good example of 'what not to do' for my planned RPG maker game. These are super basic things they seem to have missed (understandable as this was one of the first JRPGs) sometimes you need to be reminded of stuff that we take for granted in the genre (or hell in games outside of the genre, no back button?!) years later.
In all politeness and sincerity, check into some free de-essers for your audio. The high end is kinda harsh. This looks like a really fun video though!! edit also that Japanese font is dope. The free de-esser i use is "t de esser" if you wanna hook it up with that typeface name =)
Thanks a lot :) And yeah, audio surprisingly hasn't been an issue that's brought up on my long form videos (unless it's referring to my voice, which let's just say has had some...really positive reactions) but yeah, thanks for letting me know about that. de-esser I've gained a lisp due to some dental work being done on my teeth...The consequences of getting your teeth straight I guess
What other type could they use? Float also starts a 0, and char starts as undefined (all of this depending on the programming language of course) this is not a case of type fuckups, they simply did it that way or made another error that lead to that.
obviously other people have had the same idea, given there's not just 1 but 2 fan games remaking it (although it would be great if they were translated to English at some point), but I really like to idea of taking something that was executed terribly and trying to bring out the best of its ideas. I mean, this game's QA? Non-existent. Story? Underutilized and nonsensible. But you could take the core concepts and do so much more with them all!
Same! After two videos on it, I want to see the potential this game had. A translation effort for one of those remakes would be cool to see. My guess is that anyone up to the task has better uses for their time and talent, since even the full potential of the game is probably aggressively mid, but I’d love to play a fixed up version sometime and see what they could’ve done with it.
@@WalkerSunriseChannel I tried some time ago looking into Romancing Stella Visor's internal files to see if I could do something about the language but so far nothing I've tried has worked... granted, I know nothing about videogame programming and all that stuff so I might have overlooked something, but I fear that the texts are a hardcoded element of the game :/ The only good thing is that the pause menu and texts (stat names for example) are actual images so at least that part can be edited easily.
More shitty game reviews pls! Realizing this game mightve been made entirely by one guy at a time when JRPGs barely existed so there wasnt really a template to follow, makes some of its flaws a lot more understandable actually!
I was expecting something not quite as bad as "Super Monkey Daibouken", "Quest of Ki" or even "Takashi no Chosenjou", but I see it actually is worse. Carry on.
A part of me mourns that they haven't translated this officially for the West, because I feel like knowing this game would do wonders for general gamers discussions of "worst game ever", but perhaps that's on purpose. If I want to experience legendary kusoge, maybe I just need to put the ffort into finding a translated ROM and play it on a format other than what I usually play games on. Only once I passed my inability to commit long enough to do that much, will I be worthy of this... rich... experience.
Like the video and will hopefully watch more from you. Your voice and cadence though seems so similar to someone i cant quite put my finger on. I think maybe a weird internet/horror channel? Either way, kudos.
You talk a bit too quiet compared to the background music so either lower the music volume or speak up cause at points I only hear your faint whisper drowned out.
Take this with a grain of salt, but I'm guessing that's because of how the translation patch being used was made. It looks like combat, menu, and key story text were properly translated, but everything else was left as-is, using the now garbled and mismatched original character encoding. You still see occasional Japanese characters probably because their graphics weren't overwritten by English characters. I'm pretty sure if you knew how the character table is arranged for both languages, you could put it back to coherent Japanese.
@@pikksen7905 On this note. The typical game dialogue uses solely Hiragana. Yet Katakana is in the passwords to make them even more confusing. The level 0 thing actually kind of makes sense if you think about it. If you're starting your character as a kid, well... kids don't have much experience. Level 1 implies they have at least 1 level's worth of experience. Level 1 makes sense for more adult or even teen characters in their older years. But for a kid? Not so much. Level 0 makes much more sense. And frankly, it also makes sense that the monsters would be able to defeat a child easily. Why shouldn't they be able to? They aren't really monsters at all if even a kid can easily beat them. Think about it.
