Fiore was the only reason I bought and played this game lol. For under 15 bucks used you can have some fun with this game.

I thought the game okay... until i played the other SO games. But i did like the idea of having all your party members fight at the same time

Agreed, that makes the playable cast feel like an actual adventuring party.
It's better that they went all the way with it, unlike Breath of Fire 4.
I played this game for the first time last year…I got it on sale for like 7 or 8 bucks. It was the only SO game I had never played; I stayed away from it due to the awful reviews it got and I have to say it’s not as bad as people make it out to be. To be clear, it is very far from perfect and I’ll most likely never play it again, but I had some fun with it. I don’t regret the purchase
To be fair, buying a full price RPG for less than an indie game probably helped. Haven't played it myself, but still.
Same here, but I bought it for 50 Brazilian reais which is about the same price, but if I bought it for full price I would be pretty mad at it too.
I've come around on this game. It still ties with SO1 for the worst in the series but now that I know what to expect I can find enjoyment in it. Also I mained Fiore, I like the spellcasters even if they usually suck lol.
I have to admit that i never used Anne because the game was too short and easy to worry about characters so i don't have a good evaluation for her. The big problems i have for the combat system is enemies are mostly weak and die with 1-2 skills, bosses will die in one rush, roles are your main dmg increasing making mainly 1 character dps good, and people go in and out leaving Fidel stronger than most character because skills usage matters.
(low)Fiore- biggest use is removing buffs past that i have nothing.
(Low main game, high rush spam post) Victor- comes off like a weaker Fidel because he's not around long enough until post game where you beef him up.
(low) Emmerson- Long range isn't that useful anymore, there isn't that many dangers in SO5 and Dps reigns king.
(A) Miki- , while deadman makes you invincible battle wise, i do like the part where you don't stagger allowing you're dps to attack unhindered. she's you're only healer so it's always high
(?) Anne- lower it if only for the defend her missions. I never put effort into her sorry.
(S) Fidel- Mainly strong because you always use him- his double slash is surprisingly useful but Death Palm is where it's at. it builds gauge fast and will be you're main controlled character post game 100% to spam Rush. While his rush is powerful and it's AOE will demolish bosses.
I prefer Deadman on Fidel with death palm to raise rush while spamming it post game since rush makes you invincible. with that and victor spamming rush leaving the rest of the characters in safety.
Guess I’m glad I never played this Star Ocean, nice list though. Can’t wait till you do Trails through Daybreak tier list that’ll be interesting. Given the latest mechanics

Now, I won't ever tell anyone that they're wrong when they say they don't like this game.
But I love it. Yes, it is incredibly flawed, and yes, basically almost every game in the series is better..... But I still love SO5. I finished it 3 times and got the platinum trophy, and it was probably the most fun platinum trophy I've ever gotten. My problems with the game are the same as with everyone else, especially the lack of cutscenes and the story with very low stakes, but it's a fun game for me regardless, and the endgame grind is really really good.
Miki is 11/10.

Sorry I was gonna comment something with depth or substance but the abrupt cutoff with "Star Ocean 5 is a terrible game" made me laugh so hard if I had a drink it would've been a spit take 😂😂😂

I'm wrapping up Radiant Historia, which only has about seven or so characters in it, so it shouldn't be too hard to make a tier list for it. Yeah, Rosch is at the bottom, but would Stocke be at the top?

I know this is hot take, but I actually like this game for what it's , sure it's isn't amazing or anything but I actually enjoy the character I just wish they were in a more flashed out story.
And the gameplay is fun despite being pretty simple

I wanna talk to the dev team and ask why they hate magic so much. I dont' mind since I'm a meat head but it is kinda odd how the series as a whole relegates magic users to the support role.
magic is good in most star ocean games but people really only look at dps. magic opens up enemies to attack allowing to beat other people down without issues. 6 made Midas the 2nd strongest character in the game. once you get into controlling the battle field magic becomes too useful.
Have you played Trails through Daybreak yet? If so how is the game so far.

For this one the one party member that has a HP draining skill so that this GAMES BLOODY armor JOB effect can't actually KILL him and with 9999 Str that move easily restores more then 9999 damage PER hit so that you can't even die even on Chaos/Universe mode ever unless the hits for that HP drain skill don't actually connect.
NEVER use Dead man walking ie the BLOODY armor role on a HEALER you can still die if the SUPER bosses even at lv 255 on Earth mode kill all but a Healer in 1 hit INSTEAD give the role to that party member that has a HP drain IN BATTLE MP cost skill as long as the skill drains 9999 HP even on Earth mode the Dead man walking class will NEVER kill him at all but you can still LOSE the battles if the role IS set to a healer/mage if EVERYONE ELSE dies IN 1 hit like against Etheral Queen AT lv 255 ON EARTH mode.
So give the Dead man walking role TO VICTOR with at least 5000 Str even on Earth mode Bloodstorm Revolution will do MORE then 9999 damage and HEAL HIS HP for 9999 PER hit NEVER give the bloody armor effect to a HEALER unless it OPERA in 2nd Story/Evolution/2nd Story R.
I wanted to like this game, I did finish it, but didn't really care about the post game. The menus are way better than divine force, but the combat is just meh. Love your tier lists btw 👍

Wow, this video length. Also, man, this game's balancing really is garbage. I know it was rushed, but this makes me wonder if it even had any play testers at all. Or Tri-Ace was just THAT underfunded at the time. Thank goodness to GEMDROPS for restoring some credibility to the series again. Lastly, still waiting for any videos covering the Saga games dude.

I find Relia's backpack so jarringly off-putting with the rest of her design. She's up here doing the fantasy priest getup but man the backpack, why isn't it Yellow or brown or something that meshes better with her outfit. Feels like Japan was reaching deep on the loli tropes for this design and just didn't care~

All are sh#t tier because this game nearly ruined my favourite franchise forever.
I wanted to like this game. I really did……..but I just couldn’t. I played this after the last hope, which was my intro into the series. I had an absolute blast with The last Hope, which some say it’s not that great, I thought it was fantastic but I&F……..really upset me with how bad it was.

You bashed the game like it was a review channel before even giving us the tiers. Nah i didnt like this video cuz of that. The game isnt terrible JUST because its not as good as the other StarOcean games. Its all about how you go about it. You are on the internet and there is a fan of everything ever made and also haters on things we may like.

Anne and Miki sure have best designs, and are great in battle, but too bad the game was bad.
This game is complete garbage and damn near killed Star Ocean (Divine Force nailed that coffin).
As far as the tier list, I'd switch Emmerson and Fidel, but agree otherwise.
