LYRICS
Welcome to My Planet
Four
Point five four three billion years
It’s been here
Just two hundred thousand
More since we appeared
Preaching progress
Moving forward
I think it’s weird
That anyone pretends
It all makes sense
Why don’t we just grab a beer
And make some friends
Why don’t we just grab a beer now
Welcome to my planet
I don’t understand it
But it feels a lot like magic
This unending expansion
I’m a fan of supernovas
And making out on sofas
With you
One
Light year or
Six trillion miles
Oh no
Our universe
Is forty-six
Billion of those
So when you’re
Feeling very small
Just hold me close
Cause when I’m in your arms
It all makes sense
Nowhere else I need to be
No crucial plans
Nowhere else I need to be now
Welcome to my planet
I don’t understand it
But it feels a lot like magic
This unending expansion
I’m a fan of supernovas
And making out on sofas
With you
Heyyy...so a bit about this song...since it’s an original. (Nataly here BTW.) This is a very “factual” song inspired by me being very bad at remembering numbers. The lyrics will be correct for at least the next several thousand years. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I find myself thinking about how enormous the universe is and how long it’s been around. It really puts things in perspective. Not just how small we are, but how short life is and how little we know about everything. I’ve been reading Bill Bryson’s “A Short History of Nearly Everything.” If you don’t have time for the whole book, I highly recommend reading at least this little intro. (awordintheworld.blogspot.com/p/short-history-of-nearly-everything.html) He’s such a fantastic writer...he makes science both entertaining AND comprehensible. Anyhoo, thanks Bill, for inspiring this song. And thank YOU for reading this very long video comment :)
thanks for the book recommendation! have you read his book, A Walk in the Woods? It's great!
I haven't yet! But I should...can't go wrong with Bill.
And thank YOU for letting us listen to the product of your inspiration
I love that book! Thought inspiring, yet comical and enjoyable to read!
this is awesomesauce :)
How much do you LOVE Brian Green's guitar part on this song.
Brian's guitar is like Riding a Milky Way Wave.....Star Surfing Fo Sho
Nancy Sinatra would be proud of all of you... I'm smitten
It is awesome and bendy, which is very tricky. But his guitar is not nearly as good as the singing between you three ladies. Beautiful.
I had to play the song some times so i could focus on other things. THAT much.
sounds like sci fiction
So I've listened to this quite a few times now and Brian's isolated guitar into the descending bass line into the OOOO oooo's might be the best thing I've heard in a long while.
Thank you! So glad you like it. :)
YES! I'm about to go listen again. Such a funky song!
Love Jack's look across at the bass player at 2:17 in recognition of the cool little riff he's just added. Those little moments make music special.
Yeah I caught that. Nice!!
Covers and mash-ups are nifty, but original Pomplamoose is always awesomely cool! YAYY!!!
definitely one of your best original songs. deserves way more views!!
Has a bit of classic Jack Conte sound to it. Pretty good!
Love it. The lead guitar and soulful background vocals butter up this groovy gem.😊

This would be perfect for a space travel montage scene in a feature film.
The lyrics...
I get it
None of this makes sense, but for the most parts, its awesome
Especially the making out on the sofa part lol
Don't figure it, feel it.
Then it all makes sense.
Love

In the time between this video and the insta story posted in july I've almost died wanting to hear about this song and the song itself. Well done, this is inspired- some deep level shit.
Je viens de découvrir ce groupe, je l'ai écouté tout l'après-midi, merci pour cette musique de qualité.

I'd love to hear what that song sounds like in Mr. Conte's head, because he is clearly channeling music from an alternate dimension based on his facial expressions. Channel on!

"I'm a fan of supernovas and making out on sofas with you."
Best lyric line ever. Anyone agree?
No it's literally just you.
@@kwijung And two others apparently.
Damn original, that was awesome I agree
After having heard this tune at least 50 times over the last couple of years, I came here today to write exactly that. I'm so happy more people thought of the brilliance behind this single line. It encompasses the playful nature of eroticism, the memories some mundane things like sofas could be carrying for someone, and the liberating realization that we are such diminutive beings (compared to cosmic effects like supernovas for example) that even slightly grasping the concept of existing for a short while and getting to evolve our feelings and learn to love the little things is almost a miracle of its own. Maybe I went too far but, goddamit I love this tune!
@@Thanasis_Tsakirakis "Maybe I went too far" :D No, I think in the context of this song going all out is just the right amount :P
