That's awesome that you can use lighthouse tracking + knuckles + HP G2 all together, that's really awesome. That's seem's like the best setup out so far for VR right now.

@FuriousImp was going to say the same thing. Got 3 lighthouses and 8 vive trackers and a great display, it great. i only wish i could use lighthouses to track the reverb itself. Certainly, i have no plans to upgrade until something with a better resolution, lighthouse tracking, face and eye tracking comes along. Hopefully, the valve Deckard will be all that.

Welp, I cancelled my Index order and pre-ordered the G2. Now that I know I can upgrade to base stations and knuckes controllers down the road, I'd rather save the $400 in the shorter term, and get that sweet sweet high resolution with the G2. Every time I see some new info about the G2, it just gets better. Thanks for the informative videos to help me make an informed decision.

I just set this up. Thanks MRTV! Index Controllers work in most games. However, games that have seated modes fail - you get a grey screen of death. So in those games, you have to revert to the WMR or Xbox/gamepad controllers. Also sometimes WMR cliff house likes to crawl back in your session like a bad case of herpes. So you’re never completely free of WMR. When the Index Controllers work, the G2 is a very good experience with crystal clear visuals. Also the comfort is great. The headset is lighter than the Index.

Just a tip for anyone who is trying this. I had *very bad* results when using Space Calibrator--a lot of tracking drift--and for a long time I couldn't figure out why. However, I finally realized that the issue was that SpaceCal had detected my Pitch and Roll values as being around 175 degrees. In fact, the accurate value for both was exactly 180 degrees. Once I edited my calibration, my tracking was then *almost* flawless.
I suggest after running the calibration, to go in and edit your values and round the Pitch and Roll to the nearest 90 degrees. Based on how these tracking systems work (tracking a flat plane in a room), it is very likely that the offsets between them will be on a square angle like this, rather than a weird number like 175 degrees (note that this is for Pitch and Roll only, not Yaw). After doing that, you can then fine tune your XYZ offsets. An easy way I found to do this was by touching the edge of my my Vive Controller with my WMR controller, and adjusting the image in my headset until it matched the physical boundary.
If you get the tracking planes properly aligned there should be only minimal tracking drift that is not noticeable in actual use (maybe like an inch or so over ten feet). But if your tracking planes are out of alignment by even 5 degrees, you'll get quite substantial drift, since the controllers are not moving through space on the same plane (you'll see them move slowly up or down vertically as you move horizontally across your play space).

Hi! Could you help me with this? I have been struggling with insane drift for almost a year and found no solution to it except for continuous calibration maybe, but I cannot spend my money on a vive tracker atm to try that.

    • @nagorak666
      @nagorak666 Рік тому

@@mihtor2462 I'm afraid I can't really suggest anything other than what I already wrote. In the end mixing two tracking systems is just kind of rough. Ultimately, the continuous calibration option is probably the best solution, although it is unfortunate that it costs more money for the tracker.

Sometimes the hands are working, but they are facing me or even behind my body. Other times I can’t find them at all. And if I push forward on the joystick, my virtual body moves in the opposite direction because the controllers aren’t oriented in the right direction to begin with. I have two vive index 2.0 base stations. No matter where I place them only one seems onto work, and that also messes with the one of the controllers.. I would clear the calibration, run the calibration again, and then make sure index controllers snap to hp controllers before moving forward. The controllers were all over the place for me until I ran and waited for them to snap behind the hp controllers. Also, have you ever had issues using those controllers near the TV before, if not, then that shouldn't cause it. I know there are lasers in the base stations, so some reflective surfaces could affect the tracking, but if they were working before, it's most likely something else.

I will also get the full valve index kit as I see there are pieces shared between the two (headphones, face gasket, yes, I know they are different but in the inside, they are the same) and the fact that the valve index has different features, like a better refresh rate and a wider FOV.

The only two clear ways the Index is objectively better than the G2 is FOV and refresh rate, so seeing some FOV tests in ROV Test would be lovely! In every other regard, though, the Reverb G2 is a winner especially when paired with the Index controllers.
Also, you mentioned in your Preview video of the Reverb G2 that you would have a "written Preview" with things you couldn't include in the video, like benchmarks. When is that expected to be released?

The guide by pumkin is rather old and a bit oudated. A few corrections:
    1. Virtualbuilds is not a good place to buy dongles after they raised prices. Get them at tundra-labs.com for $24 a piece.
    2. You can install openvr advanced settings from steam, much easier to manage install than via github
    3. There is no reason to do anything besides fast calibration, and it is more accurate to put the index controller on top of your headset rather than using the wmr controller.
    4. For maximum dongle range you want to use usb 2.0 extension cables to extend them.

Hell, My old Rift I am looking to replace, once I did the setup works great with my many Steam VR games, provided those game was made with the Rift in mind. Not all games are.
If you are not sold on the HP G2 you may wish to do what I am thinking of doing, and that is to hold out for the Decagear 1.
It seems to be everything the HP G1 is and so much more, and cost much less. It might even be Fully Steam compatible, out of the box.
Sadly, even though it is said to have a May release, it seems to be still deep in development, an in still a WIP. Some feel it's offerings are too good to be true at it's price of $450, and is likely a scam. Time will tell.

It is also suggested that you make figure 8's with your controller during calibration. Make believe you are playing with a model aircraft and making it dive and swoop. This will guarantee that all 6 degrees of movement are recorded accurately. Also, you only need to calibrate 1 controller. By calibrating the second controller you are just overwriting the data already recorded. The program auto-calculates the 2nd controller.

Was able to do this today, and its a world of difference. It was definitely an expensive upgrade though. $270 for a pair of base stations (1.0 or 2.0 are almost the same price per unit) + $300 for controllers + $70 for a pair of steam controllers (or dongles if you can find any) = $640 to fix the sh***y default tracking. I was able to work with it for a while, fiddling with the ambient light levels, but I'd still get controllers trailing away too often. If this solution didn't exist, I would have ended up selling my G2 altogether.

FYI, you don't need to do the calibration for each controller. The calibration is just syncing the playspaces, so all he’s doing when he does the right one after the left is replacing the offset he just set with the left controller with the right controller. If done right they should be identical, so no change in the playspace.

Would save buying some vive/steam dongles and also make switching between the index and the G2 much easier.

The setup works pretty well for what it's worth, however I find that every time I start up SteamVR, the controllers snap to a different position almost every time, despite having OVRSpaceCal setup. They also sometimes do this on their own passively at random times, too, which causes sudden disorientation. Does anyone know how I can fix this, it's been going on ever since early-February from my furthest back recollection. I have tried just about virtually every troubleshooting methods out there and even my own experiments, none of which seemed to have provided any different or fruitful results. It's maddening and it's making me sometimes become close to giving up and switching back to my G2 controllers.

Hey mate, I just got the reverb g2 and have a question/request
I have ordered the index controllers but i know the HP has its own receivers SO.
remove the index receivers you used
open "bluetooth and other settings" in windows run
make sure reverb and controllers are on and WMR is on, you should see the reverb controllers in the list as motion controller.
    Remove them, should unpair
Then in windows WMR in bottom left go options and "set up controllers"
Then try to pair the index controls with the G2 headset
after usage and research on the controllers and how theyre set up i thought this might be a workable option
DONT WORRY, you can re pair the WMR controllers, the pairing button is under the battery cover at the bottom
Thanks heaps, this would be a huge help if you could try it and let me know before I order the dongles
