When Microsoft flight sim get HP VR support I am hoping you will make a video on it. I am hoping it will be an incredible experience (especially when military jets get added)
@Han Lockhart same here. I am leaning towards the Index, but I don't know if the extra dollars are justified over the G2. I am planning to use for FS2020.
@@iamv0id202 Microsoft are not likely to terminate your account and not give a reason or an appeal, unlike Facebook. There are many accounts of people losing their real name Facebook accounts and not ever being given a reason why. So having a lot of games and using VR a lot in your life it is just too much of a risk to go with Facebook.
@@iamv0id202 All of them sell your data, but Facebook is by far the worse. It's also such a creepy place. Pretty much everything you do gives out a notification to all your friends, and disabling this is either made more difficult than it needs to be or it's just impossible in some cases. I'm also not fond of being forced to use my real name and not being given any other choice. At least other services like Steam, Origin, Epic games etc... don't do this
@@tabushka292 Yep, every company sucks in terms of privacy. People just need to be aware it's not just facebook, although it's the worst as you said. Best reason to advocate for open source.
Thank you a lot! Finally pre-ordered the G2. Moving from Odyssey Plus. After all picture clarity is the main advantage for me. Playing almost only Elite Dangerous and waiting for MSFS 2020 in VR.
I have the Valve Index and absolutely love it. I upgraded to it from the HTC Vive. The controllers are amazing and provide an amazing gaming experience especially for shooters. The visuals step up from the vive is amazing, can read text clearly now. The comfort with valve headset and controllers are 10/10. Just my opinion!
Compared to the OG Vive it is definitely a huge step up! However, compared to the G2, which this video is about it’s really up to what you prefer; resolution vs refresh rate.
I learned this from the Quest, mine is weighing a good 5-6 lbs with all the frankenquest mods to make it comfortable. Every time I go back to my barebones rift it feels so great.
@@UNSCPILOT Just got my chilldex today, man it totally makes a huge difference. really should come with fans in there to start, beat saber is unplayable after a few hard songs lol.
Finally a more thorough and honest comparison between the G2 and Index! Even the subjective statement of the G2's narrower FOV was very helpful. I was now able to make my decision: G2 it is and if the controllers start to annoy me, I'll simply upgrade them to the Index' which should put me at the Index' price BUT with all-round better graphics :) Thanks MRTV!
Holy shit dude, you absolutely killed that review! Thank you very much. I like how you keep it short and on point but if someone wants to get more into a category he can just watch another video of you. Keep it going!
As a physiotherapist, I am unconvince about Oculus-style controllers being more ergonomic. For short term use, yes, they seem more comfortable as they accomodate the resting anatomical position of the hand, however ergonomy is also about the long term, I have noticed that compared to Valve Index Controllers, they tend to place more strain on the wrist extensors in radial deviation, meaning that they are at greater risk for causing De Quervain syndrome after extended use with games like Beat Saber. This is mainly due to wrist movements being carried out fast and repeatedly WHILE also gripping the controllers hard (and also the shape of the controller). Because of this, the extensor pollicis brevis and abductor pollicis longus muscles are working in a position where the thumb is too far adducted and thus the tendons are in a stretched position. This problem can therefore partially be mitigated by using the Mamut grips.
Happy with my Index. You honestly can't go wrong, but tracking, fov and refresh rate means a lot to me as it is one of the most important parts of the VR illusion. Would love to see the next iteration to have the benefits of both.
I wouldn't argue with the screens being a little sharper but honestly I already need a new graphics card to push the index. The FOV really helps too. If I adjust the lenses to be farther away the tunnel vision thing really bothers me.
I would still go for the Index since for me good hand tracking and PC connection are a must but I'm happy the competition is increasing. It's proof of a growing market and it means that it'll only get better from now on. So me personally, I'll be waiting for the new Valve headset to come out hopefully one that includes limb and facial expression tracking as well as a better overall feature set.
I'm a CV1 owner and have been waiting for a true "Next Gen" headset before upgrading. I'm surprised at how many new headsets have been released since the original Vive/CV1. That alone would suggest how strong or potentially viable the VR market is or is perceived to be by manufacturers. VR seems to be advancing at a quick pace with multiple revisions with new and novel features being added and dropped with every version update and new model released by manufacturers, deciding to wade in with their idea of what VR is lacking. "Next Gen" has to be more than new features, it has to include price reduction due to matured technology and perfected setup as well as improved resolution in tracking and visuals with simplified setup. The Rift S and Quest proved that Microsoft was on the right track with simplified tracking moved to the headset and the HP G2 is looking like that technology advanced if not perfected. I pre ordered it. Can't wait to land on a planet in Elite Dangerous with this resolution. I also want to see Valve adapt their knuckles controller for universal compatibility, without lighthouses if/when possible. But i'll buy the Knuckles with light houses around the holidays for $300 if they can make that compatibility work out of the box with reasonable setup. Not spending $500 for a hacked option that gets it done, though that (previous MRTV video on connecting these to G2) is encouraging. Makes me feel like Valve is on the verge of becoming the VR king maker instead of just the luxury option. Was this Valves plan all along? Gabe?...Gaaabe?
@@FunFreakeyy I totally agree. I would love to see Valve become the official place for all things VR.. Half Life Alex is the best example to show that Valve has an actual plan to build out an open VR platform for games and the Index as an example of the extreme possibility at the high end of the consumer scale. I wouldn't' have expected the cheaper, more mature option (G2) this soon. I wonder how deep the partnership between Microsoft and Valve is at the moment and how many more G2's are on the horizon? I can't imagine Samsung is sitting out this round. Except for GamePass on PC, it's starting to feel like MS is now fully embracing Steam as the primary platform for gaming on PC. Add that to the nice things Gabe has said about MS and Windows 10 during the announcement of cross multiplayer between Steam and Windows Store/GamePass and MS games on Steam. There could be more to this relationship than has been officially announced to date. Don't forget that Microsoft has some of the biggest PC hardware companies waiting by the phone for a call regarding a new DX or Windows capability. Imagine the possibilities if these 2 actually partnered on something. What if MS finally and fully embraced Steam as their default marketplace for PC gaming and dropped the Windows store all together. This would be a massive advantage for both parties.
I wouldn't say VR is going at a fast pace. I have the very first Oculus and I would agree when it comes to visuals it is improving but can't see the new headset being same as 4k monitor. The other thing holding headsets back is movement, not everyone can run around and teleport is just not realistic. I know right now they are testing mind control for movement and until that is fully implemented you won't get VR moving much more. I would like to see how the new headset looks in Microsoft Flight Sim though, should work great for that.
@@Danny_UK Yeah, it seems like screen resolution is the trickiest thing to improve. Especially when you look at the wireless headsets, that's a lot of data to transmit wirelessly. I also can't handle "natural" movement in games and rely on the teleport option except for Ellite Dangerous. I don't know what it is about that game, maybe it's the cockpit in 3D but it's the only one that doesn't make me nauseous with 6dof, real time movement. Going to try Flight Simulator on the G2 when the pre orders start shipping.
@@Danny_UK But I don't think mind control is the solution that will finally launch VR. Before the duel stick controller was rolled out by sony, there was 20 years of games that were enjoyed by billions of people. New and novel control options will come. I don't mind the teleport option but I prefer the zoom out to 3rd person more. Look at From other Suns, that game is amazing and allows for all 3 options. As long as it's coop multiplayer or single player, it's still fun.
@@mixedrealityTV Pre-order it based on your recommendation. Can't wait to compare them, I sim race so the fov and Frame rate have been a major upgrade from what I'm used to.
Giving up the index's finger tracking and lighthouse tracking is a big disadvantage in many games. Especially for immersion. The FOV is higher on the index as well. Better quality parts. Except for 1 disadvantage. The res. I would not call it a disadvantage due to it not being a huge difference. But yeah. G2 for WMR and no fingertracking and less good tracking. Or index for all of the above. Oh also. 144hz display.
@@tigerleon10 I've had an Index for a few months and just received my G2 a few days ago. I feel the Index is still the more immersive headsets for the reasons you listed. The biggest annoyance on the G2 for me is the terrible blurriness near the edges. That combined with the fact that the FOV is lower makes it really distracting at times. The clarity in the center is nice, but it really is just a sweet spot. The overall visual immersion is still superior on the Index, IMO.
you would need to purchase base stations which are low in stock so usually $150 for the 2.0 and about the same for the 1.0 as nobody really sells them to my knowledge
If you have lighthouse base stations they should work fine just like the Index controllers can once you set it up. As Sebastian said, he had a video on how to set it up.
I recently pre-ordered the Reverb G2. Should be phenomenal with Sim games. I also have the Index so don't really have to make a choice between the two.
Just pulled the trigger on the G2 to add to my motion sim racing platform. Haven't used VR since the original release of the Vive, combined that with a motion platform, I'm sure it's going to be mind blowing. I'm working out now my plans for the motion compensation needed.
Thank you sir ! I feel totally confident in having placed my pre-order for the G2, after watching this and your other reviews of this stunning equipment. I am moving up from the Rift CV1 😊👍
11:00 - sure, it's clear and sharp right in the center, but it's VERY blurry near the edges and that combined with the smaller FOV makes it downright distracting at times from my experience. Those are 2 things that really kill the immersion for me over the Index, and I own both headsets.
So you think that valve index is better? I just got the message from valve to pay for index and see that g2 have some better options. So I'm very worried for the choose of this headsets.
@@proudkinglion2215 It's hard to say one is overall better than the other as they both have trade-offs. I'm pretty sensitive to FOV and the edge blurring on the G2 so i'll probably use my Index for most games, but the G2 has such great center clarity that it makes it good for things like racing sims and flight sims where you need to see details in the distance. The thing with the G2 that I really don't like is that because it gets so blurry outside of the sweet spot, you can't really look around with your eyes much. I feel the Index is much better in that regard. The Index has some issues with glare that the G2 does not, so there is that to consider. The thing i've learned about with VR is that some things that really bother some people don't bother other people at all, so it's tough to recommend one over the other.
It is now Oct 2022. I know both headsets are very good, but for my VR gaming needs which is SIM racing, the HP Reverb G2 V2 is adequate enough because of mainly Head Tracking while racing. I have the HP Reverb G2 V2 headset. There is now with the newer HP G2 just one CON I have which is the small Sweet Spot making the outer boundaries of the lenses blurry. Long as I look ahead with my eyes, the graphics is clear, but moving just my eyes to the side or up and down, the graphics in the lenses become blurry. And this is with the plastic insert taken out to get eyes closer to the lenses. Thanks for the older review of the 2 headsets. Take care.
Great review. Ended up going with a valve index just for the refresh rate, this was the only aspect you missed in this review. 90 hz vs 144hz is a big deal for people who get motion sickness from VR.
You mean occulus rift cv1?? I own one and its a great headset EXCEPT the shitty SDE and low resolution. The G2 sounds like a HUUUGE upgrade in visuals. Hell i have an odyssey+ and the screen is much better than rift cv1... the g2 will be even better
@@JoseFcoBN como dice ese español en youtube sobre la G2..«la calidad de la imagen es bestial, señoras y señores, esto es brutalmente impresionante..» jajaja
System Active (the UK distributor) sent emails out this week stating that they would be shipping worldwide in October. Doesn't sound like pre-orders will get get them any earlier. From the email: "Again, thank you for pre-ordering the HP Reverb G2. We have been informed by HP that shipments will take place in October. The demand worldwide has been extremely high, so there has been an impact on production, and it will be shipped at that time for all regions across the world"
I'm so conflicted between those two. I want the lighthouse tracking for accuracy, and I really love the Index controllers. On the other hand, I'm very sensitive with nausea so i'd love to have the higher res of the G2, but also the higher refresh rate of the Index (normal monitor use I cant really go with anything under ~100hz without my eyes starting to hurt after like an hour). The price doesnt matter too much to me, but still - really difficult decision Also - do you know if the G2 also works perfectly fine under Linux?
I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure you require the windows software to run the headset, so I'm not sure how it would run if you were to use a VM or another similar method to run that software.
The G2 is a Windows Mixed Reality headset. Just go with the Index, it'll be less headache in the long term. I wouldn't expect Microsoft to provide any sort of support when it comes to running their flagship hardware on Linux.
@Han Lockhart Nah it's just time and resources. Everyone's trying to figure out their ONE differentiator, and then there's the matter of different tastes/use cases. Outside tracking is objectively better on paper but inside out just works and it's portable. WMR just works. I got all of my friends into VR and they all have their own headsets because I brought my WMR headset to one of their houses and let them have at it. WMR headsets are the perfect headsets for a VR evangelist to have in the toolkit. They're portable and they just work.
I have owned the Index for a few months now, I love it, no regrets. The index controllers are great. A buddy of mine uses them with a Vive Headset and it's something they strongly recommend. A tip for charging controllers (or other expensive electronics) invest in a magnetic charging adapter. The tips plug in once, and the cable magnetically snaps to them. The advantages being: 1. No debri can enter the charging port. 2.You will never wear out the charging port by plugging and unplugging the charger. 3. The charging cables now safely break away from the controller if the charging cable is pulled taut; be it from being too eager to play, a small child trying to walk away with your controller, or trying to play while charging. Obviously these are situations you should probably avoid, but I consider it a $20 insurance investment. edit: you can purchase the controllers from valve separate from the entire VR kit.
You seem to get it. I don't know why people would waste money on something that isn't future proof. Just get the whole index kit. Like, if you are gonna spend that much money just get the index ffs. 1. Finger tracking controllers 2. better tracking with no dead spots 3. 144hz mode 4. Better quality. Like wtf. Why do people think that a bit more pixels will make it better and give up 144hz display and finger tracking controllers. The G2 is just inferior.
if you have an existing vive (original or vive pro) you can use your existing base stations and controllers and purchase just the index HMD for around £449. So, in that case that would be a cheaper option than buying the G2. So I think the price difference is not that much for a lot of people. Sure, if you want knuckles controllers and dont have existing base stations then the index will cost you £919. But a lot of people may be happy to just go for the HMD upgrade if they have an existing vive
I feel like it would be interesting if an inside out tracking headset was compatible with base station use combined with the inside out some kind of hybrid superior tracking but when you take the headset to say a friends house, works perfectly with inside out only tracking or base station only tracking
Could you please do a quick through the lens comparison in a VERY dark scene between these two headsets? Like caves in Skyrim, a horror game, Saints and Sinners catacombs, The Forest at night time, Organ Quarter, Westworld, Five Nights at Freddies, anything like that? I love my Index but I can't play any of my horror games because it is so gray. If the blacks are BIG step up on the G2, I will get it, but if it is only a mild improvement, then I will pass. Thank you!
They should produce helmets with 360 camera, planty space for accu and even as cellphone function with headup display. And by the way thanks for your excellent reviews ❤️
6:14 Uh no. Having used a rift cv1, a rift s, and an index, index controllers are significantly better than the rift controllers. The index controllers have a pretty large range of adjustability, so larger or smaller hands work fine with them, whereas with the rift's they were usually catered to smaller hands. The new WMR controllers look like they have longer grips, but still, don't tell me that the index controllers are less ergonomic when you don't even have to hold on to them (holding on to the rift's controllers would cramp my hands after 2-3 hours, I have gone 7 hours on the knuckles for comparison)
Thanks Sebastian for another great comparison; defenitely helpful for me. Maybe also worth mentioning is that the G2 will also be the first VR headset supported in Flight Simulator 2020, could be a decision maker for some people ;) Greetings from The Netherlands!
@@Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo luck isn't a factor. If he has a 2080ti that is. Plenty of people have one so I'm not sure the purpose of your response. Plus the 30 series is on its way sooo... again not sure what the purpose of your response was.
Take on note that Valve index can be upgraded with fullbody tracking. Precise tracking, tracker support and finger tracking is worth of adding 400 on price, but thats just me. I wish g2 supported using basestations, would buy just headset without controllers and use knuckles
Really well done review! I already have the valve index but watching this helped me understand that just became the index is more expensive it isn’t the best at everything! Thanks for the video!
I'm with you, I'd rather go with the HP all because the visuals are way better. I don't want to play a game with pixelation issues or screen effect. I want it super clear.
Can you show a through the lens comparison with G2 full resolution at 100% SS compared to the Valve Index at 90hz with 200% SS. I am really interested in the G2 but I want to see how much difference you can see between the two HMDs with those settings.
I have the index, and it was hard to set up, how is the g2 for ease of setup? I've heard it's not that easy as well(only once). I''m really interested in purchasing it. Thx for the vid!
It seems to me, if you had the money, get the g2 and use that for a bit until you can get tracking cameras and the index controllers with the g2

You know, you've been no damned help whatsoever! I'm just going to have to get both now. Seriously, I have the Index on order, but after watching this video I have decided to get both. Thanks for the info.
@@BluntmanAndChronic You can use the lighthouses and index controllers with the g2 he has a video on it, as far as the refresh rate the index would still be better. The only issue is if you dont have the lighthouses and controllers the price point isnt really lower at all, it'll end up costing $1,100 dollars to get the g2 plus order the controllers and lighthouses.
I agree with the index controllers having bad ergonomics, they put that trackpad where the thumbstick should go and no one ever uses the trackpad. Also the trigger is bent a few degrees up more than it should be. The one thing I don't see mentioned too often besides being able to track behind your back and head is latency. If you are playing shooters and need to snap up your hands quickly the Index seems to have the least latency. I'm talking milliseconds here but I notice it with inside out tracking. When I move my arm up the index seems to do a better job at matching my speed while I feel a slight delay with inside out. Likely not a big deal for most. If anyone were to ask me which headset to get, I would tell them to get the G2.
I just hope that HP don't screw up the clarity, colour and contrast when they release the production version!!! By the way, FYI, overwhelmed is pronounced with a silent H, not a silent W. 🙂 Thanks for the great content as usual. At last; HP has delivered a product that justifies you naming your channel (W)MRTV. With a silent W, LOL 😁👍
Hi Sebastian, how are you ? hope you have Fun with your "new G2 toy" :-). i have 2 qutions: 1. can you check the G2 with full resolution on the min GPU cards that supported them like RTX-2060SUPER ? how the games run on it ? games like alyx and project cars and other ... 2. did you got an answer from HP about the ability to connect your own headphones ? thank you
I just wanted to say thank you for your unbiased comparison of the G2 and the Index and for all the other videos you have released this mouth about the G2.
I’ll wait until the first batches have hit the preorder people , then consider ( after user reviews in case of production quality issues etc) Then if all good consider once in stock eg no prepayment awaiting a new product with no guaranteed delivery date Shame this headset doesn’t offer 120hz then I’d still not be considering the valve Index , great time to be unexcited & just watching it all unfold Do hope to decide during winter though based on info at that point
Gotta say, as an Index owner, unless the new Nvidia 3080ti/3090 is *significantly* more powerful than the 2080ti, you really can't do 120hz without the visuals being significantly downgraded in most games.
Nick i prefer to run on low settings, i mainly use simulators , the visuals are secondary to physics etc, for racing sims like iracing and rfactor2 low latency is key, 120hz is very nice, i also overclock and watercool my hardware
How is the new G2 vs Rift S in FOV and tracking? Also do we have performance tests with the G2? I feel like it would struggle on even the most powerful PC's... I have a 2080Ti and am sceptical.
Is the Windows mixed reality setup as clunky as earlier? I Always had to redo it everytime when i was going to play VR in My Lenovo Explorer earlier. I now have a Quest so i have not used WMR for a while.
@@mixedrealityTV Same for me. Good HS for the money - IPD too small for me though, so only ever one eye properly focussed. Hoping the G2 is better - or it will have to go back - and I shall weep.
For me, it all comes down to the black levels and contrast. Are they similar but better than the Index, or a large step ahead? Can you play dark scenes and horror games without being washed out in grays? Knowing it is an LCD, I assume it is similar, but maybe a little better, but I really want to know whether it is a "little bit better" or a lot better. That is the make or break for me on this headset. The last thing I want is two headsets with terrible black levels.
@@sto_yt I've watched every video he has put out on the G2, and I've never heard him say that the black levels compare to OLED. I specifically heard him say they are better than the Index, and are NOT as good as OLED, but my question is how much better than Index are they?
So would I but I suspect no current PC+graphic card will be capable of running MSFS2020 decently on any HiRes VR headset unless you push the quality sliders way to the left...
@Han Lockhart There's hope tho. If Asobo manages to pull off ASW of the quality that Flyinside did (though I seriously doubt it), we'll get smooth head movement at as low as 30fps. Barring that the G2 can do half res.
omg thankyou, good video and info. found it hard finding a decent video with the information I wanted. looking for a vr headset for VR racing and flight sim and the light boxs are a big turn off as I only really need it for coppit work, and want hight detail. the next question will be the reverb or the vice pro.
That isn’t exactly fair to say as you are only stating the good things and ignoring the bad things what about the worse tracking higher pc requirements, much worse controllers. the G2 is about on the same level as the index making technological leaps in some places but making large sacrifices in others if you use it for sims yes the reverb G2 is largely better but for normal games it lacks behind a little
Ive used the Index for the past 3 years, 2 base stations have died, left controller needed to be replaced twice from drift. I dont even use it that much. The wire went bad and Decided to buy a Reverb G2 since HP has them foir 299. Holy crap its way clearer and I dont even notice a FOV difference. I shoulda sold the Index a long time ago. The hand tracking id perfectly fine.
Finger tracking is one of those things that you don't think you need until you have it. I can't imagine playing a VR game without finger tracking now lol
my main reason i prefer outside tracking is aiming down sights. i like to rest one controller on my hmd for better stability, with insight out tracking i have to "hover" my controller and it is harder to keep a good sight picture
I got my Pimax 8kx last week. I've only played a few hours, but I'd rate it ahead of both your choices. The G2 looks great- it has a lot going for it; I love the resolution, I love the sound quality and, as I understand it, the ease of set up. I hate the idea of the data mining that it's going to do. The 8KX is at least as good in terms of resolution and far exceeds it in field of view. And once the DMAS (deluxe headstrap and speakers) it will likely equal the G2 in sound. The real downside of the Pimax is the cost. For the average player, one who doesn't need a huge FOV and may not do much racing or flying simulation, the G2 will be an excellent choice.
Feels like it is also a question of availability. The g2 is on stock in several stores in Germany meanwhile you have to wait for the index. Might not be a huge point but defnetly a factor.
Hi Sebastian. Your vids are great and get across the headsets clearly. I am on a limited budget. I got the odyssey plus. I have a risen 3900x and Asus 2070s dual fan GPU. I'm happy with the graphics but don't know of a way to watch vids in full screen. (I use the app 'bigscreen' but that shows the movie in a theater environment. My question is, is the video resolution like watching a movie or digital content worth making the switch? Or would you wait until the next iteration of vr? I appreciate your response when you get a chance. I have tried no other headset to compare the odyssey plus to.
That is a silly ridiculous thing to say, knowing what gamers want and being able to put that into hardware are two very different things. Not to mention VR headsets are not ONLY meant for gaming. Productivity, Art, Design and Media consumption all also play into VR. All things HP know VERY well
The G2 doesn't have the same headband as the Index. It can only be adjusted by the velcro top strap. The Index as a dial on the back to pull the HMD towards the face - which is why it weighs a little bit more on that front.
bought and returning a g2, the controllers were uncomfortable, the screen was blurry everywhere but the middle and the screen could barely be adjusted, im gonna try an index
Hello, I noticed something, but maybe I was wrong. Did you say that you can use the Valve base stations to connect to the HP Reverb? I am asking because I could buy separately base stations, and the Reverb, so I will have a Valve Index functionality with a HP G2 image quality...? Plus: which one would you recommend for MS FS2020 flight simulator (I know it does not fully support VR yet)? Thanks.
Thanks this was really useful. I think I’ll pick up a g2 with the knowledge that I can always upgrade the controllers later. I’m really curious with the frame rates though. I don’t have a VR headset atm but I play on a high refresh rate monitor (165Hz) and there I really notice a low frame rate sucks but I wonder if it’s more or less noticeable in VR?
My two cents, sorry for the essay. Its very noticeable in VR. So much so that inner ear and stomach nausea drop off instantly with higher refresh rates. I would sacrifice some fidelity for the big bump in HZ, FOV and tracking. visuals come in last place in terms of priority. For reference, I have owned the Cv1 ,Cv2. Ive also borrowed the quest 1 and original htc vive for long periods in 2019 (work and play reasons). Once the aww inspiring novelty of being in VR wears off, those three points i mentioned become the biggest issues of VR in general. Screen door effect never bothered me much and in fast paced games the colours on screen change so often that the godray issue some find issue with falls by the wayside quickly. Index is undisputed in my opinion. Inside out tracking just cant compete. I further use VR for 3d modelling in Maya and Blender so i will admit i might have bias there but for just gaming I would still suggest the Index. For movies the g2 may win but if people are buying a headset just for that benefit i would just get a projector and enjoy home cinema in a shared room. To each their own though and really, welcome to VR man its a total blast!!!
@@Prox_C thanks for the reply Chris! That’s interesting 🤔. My use case would probably mostly be for space/flight sim game with the occasional out and out VR experience being an occasional use (at least currently that’s what I think). So I’m less worried about the controller tracking atm. But I can still imagine nausea being a thing with games like elite dangerous or Star Wars squadrons. Have you played much of these kinds of titles?
Thank you for the review. I have G2 and Quest 2, and I find Quest 2 sweet spot to be better than G2. G2 gets blurry the second you try to look anywhere, but straight.

Valve index with G2 lenses...that’s what I really want
You seem to have a video for literally EVERY possible VR question I have. Thank you, man.
You are welcome!

I was now able to make my decision: G2 it is and if the controllers start to annoy me, I'll simply upgrade them to the Index' which should put me at the Index' price BUT with all-round better graphics :)
Thanks MRTV!
@@DrewGlenzer Whats your current graphics card? Will my RTX 2080 be able to run the G2 well?
@@ziinx5899 Vega 56. Your 2080 will be just fine. I'm looking to go 3080/6800xt next so I shouldn't have to upgrade again til it's new pc time.
@@DrewGlenzer Yeah ill probably be getting a 3080 in a year or two, just want to make sure that ill be able to run it before then.
You can use index controllers with the h2 for a good setup
I'm kind of new to VR, how would this work? Like having different controllers with a different headset
I mean, Valve was the company that made the PC the gaming platform that it is today, so if VR is their second hit, they wouldn't be the worst leader.

I want a Valve Index with better resolution.
But for now I would go with the HP Reverb G2
Giving up the index's finger tracking and lighthouse tracking is a big disadvantage in many games. Especially for immersion. The FOV is higher on the index as well. Better quality parts. Except for 1 disadvantage. The res. I would not call it a disadvantage due to it not being a huge difference. But yeah. G2 for WMR and no fingertracking and less good tracking. Or index for all of the above. Oh also. 144hz display.
@@tigerleon10 poor boi
@@austensmith6857 I don't know if you are talking about your statement or just yourself.
@@jasonwalker6825 Exactly. Finally people are agreeing with me.
How well does HP Reverb G2 work, with Vive Full Body Tracking?
you would need to purchase base stations which are low in stock so usually $150 for the 2.0 and about the same for the 1.0 as nobody really sells them to my knowledge
No
If you have lighthouse base stations they should work fine just like the Index controllers can once you set it up.

Hey Sebastian, i would like to know if the G2 in half resolution still looks better than the odyssey +

Take care.
If you're doing only sim racing, G2 def the pick. Great visuals, okay tracking. Works best with a wheel, anything else Index does win.

The price doesnt matter too much to me, but still - really difficult decision
Also - do you know if the G2 also works perfectly fine under Linux?

The advantages being:
I was wishing for the with the Rift S! Sadly, we didn't get that option.
I have a quest 2, getting a job this summer and buying a PC rig, can't wait to play PC VR and maybe get a Reverb later on in the year!
Thank you!
Thank you again sir! 😎

Excellent comparison. Thank you!
Maybe also worth mentioning is that the G2 will also be the first VR headset supported in Flight Simulator 2020, could be a decision maker for some people ;)

Hey MRTV, I really wanna know if HTC Vive tracking works with the HP Reverb G2

@@tolissperas1468 I feel like even the 3090 would struggle lol. The G2 runs at a little over half of 8k res and it has to hit 90fps
So the index is basically all performance whilst the g2 is all visuals.
Glad I've purchased the index, especially with full body tracking support.
Thanks to you I've preordered G2!
For $600:
Higher resolution than Index
Similar if not the same built in speakers
No Facebook needed
No external sensors required
It's a no brainer.
Agreed
That isn’t exactly fair to say as you are only stating the good things and ignoring the bad things what about the worse tracking higher pc requirements, much worse controllers. the G2 is about on the same level as the index making technological leaps in some places but making large sacrifices in others if you use it for sims yes the reverb G2 is largely better but for normal games it lacks behind a little
@@oliverwithers9736 That doesn’t justify 400 dollars more tho
Infinitely Better tracking
Better controllers
Higher refresh rate
@@invi.sk98 it comes down to so you want a hyper realistic display or really good gameplay
Thanks for another great video. Does anyone sell the VR posters behind you or did you make them?
can you do a productivity desktop simulator video of the g2? aka software defaunlt, for desktop use. compare to oculus'
my main reason i prefer outside tracking is aiming down sights.
i like to rest one controller on my hmd for better stability, with insight out tracking i have to "hover" my controller and it is harder to keep a good sight picture
Valves whole premise for existence centers around video games. Going to say valve knows what the the gamers want more than HP.
Interesting, lots of people don't talk about the "sweet spot" in VR headset
Would be cool if they sold it with a headset only option. I have an index and really like the controllers and tracking.
i love my g2 so much, got it brand new for 270$ 😍
Great deal, I do recommend getting base stations and maybe some knuckles.
