Closing an app to apply a change sounds really ... "unnecessary". Report a bug if you notice any problems without doing so.
Single picture of app > app > app image/resolution transformation would help better than hundred words as well ;)

Awesome video, axtual gamechanger for me. ACC has always stuttered for me and haven't been overly impressed with quality overall. Now game looks bloody awesome and I can turn many of the settings to High and Epic!! My frametimes have gone from 16 down to 8-10. Similar for Dirt 2, now have ALL settings on Uktra and High and it's the smoothest I've ever seen it. Thank You!!!

Its amazing hoe many people dont realise the SteamVR resolutions are correct and not some sort of bug. Its an approximate ~40% bump in resolution to due to the barrel distortion effect that is needed to counteract the pincushion effect of the lenses.
Yep this is explained in the video, but as you tell its clear that most can not run at 100% including my self depending on the app f course which is why its recommended to go to the Per Application Display Settings in the Video tab and make your changes there.
I agree but why wasn’t this mentioned for the Reverb G1? 100% is 2160x2160. I have a 3080 and can’t run ACC at steams 100%
Two videos I would like to see, side by side comparrison of graphics at 50%, 100%, and 150% and a video explaining for to bind the controllers.

@@vressentials Anything really. I think a lot of people are wondering how much they lose dropping steam SS to run the headset. It would be good to know so someone can make the call of either dropping in game settings or steam SS.
@@vressentials can I suggest D.C.S. World? I can't seem to find clear, concise info. Every video I watch says something different, or just tells you to experiment for yourself.

Was using my daughters quest 2 and was able to set the default resolution to over 5408x2736, but I just got a Reverb G2 V2 for myself that everyone said was better resolution, but the highest I can set it to is 4320x2160. WTH?! If i wanted to use a blurry setting I would just use the Quest 2 at that setting. I thought the Reverb G2 was better?!?
Make sure you position your headset properly on your head...use the top strap to help you :)
@@vressentials I was able to squeeze out a much better image using third party software. While I wish it had a bit bigger sweet spot, I'm very happy with it now. I may take a look at the Varjo Aero, because I could really use a fan! Constantly battling fogging lenses.
@@AV8R_1 i think its GPU dependent, but it lets me choose 500% and than i add 300% on top [even 500% + 500% is fine but i see no change in graphics quality], im doing 15k by 15K per eye and it works fine on 4090, Alyx with FPSVR shows just 50% utilization lol, but VRAM almost 20GB so as i said not for everyone, even if 4080 and 4070 are fast enough the may run out of VRAM
Hi brilliant information, can you confirm people that are complaining about "small sweetspot" has to do with resolution settings?
Hi terry, the "Sweet Spot" is I think nothing to do with "graphics" but more about the actual cut of the glass of the lenses, so its clear in the middle but a little blurry on the sides...also maybe because IPD is only 60-68mm, so some maybe have larger or narrower IPD requirements...
@@vressentials yeah i notice the blurryness when i play beat saber and i have to duck under a wall and hit things at the same time...its a pain tbh
I just got my G2 last week and I also heard many complains about that sweetspot. I thought it would be fine for me bit now I see what they mean.
It was weird at first but if you wear the g2 correctly you will have your focus always on the sweetspot and ot looks extremely good there, bit keep in mind, it maybe take some time to find the best position to wear, i always have to fiddle around a bit but now its kinda muscle memory to put it on perfectly :D
Question I have a high end pc rtx3080 i9 10900k 32 gig ram what's the highest specs I should set for video res mind you is it going to make a difference? I mean if the headset can support 4k why have it higher?

Yep. 7:20s was a big WTF moment for me, until I googled it and and found I had to turn shit down. Everything is smooth now.

do you have anything explaining 'half resolution' versus the 'resolution per eye' slider, and are those the only settings I should play with for smoothing?

You mention going to 200% in Altspace will effectively double the resolution, but that’s incorrect. The use of percentage suggests its a linear thing, but in fact it is not because SS is not linear. Its a much higher increase in amount of pixels rendered.
I suppose thats where many of the confused people come from. SteamVR should ditch the percentage indicator.

Is there an easy way to check tje performance inside VR, so I don't have to trial & error check different resolution steps for every VR application? That would help a lot if someone could recommend a method to easily do that

by the way you need to launch your game from Steam NOT inside of the Windows Mixed Reality. If you launched from WMR, make sure you end the services of all programs and launch from the STEAM - NOT SteamVR....tomorrow will upload video (17.12.2020 around 1030pm Singapore Time).
I recommend turning down the record gain by 10-20%. Your voice sound keeps on clipping at the top high range which sounds distorted. You can increase the volume later in post production.

This setting for ACC looks fine when you're playing by yourself. As soon as you go into a lobby this setting is no longer valid because you won't be able to play it.

Not sure why you are killing Steam/WMR with Task Manager. All that is needed for Steam VR SS settings to take hold is a restart of the game itself.

@@chubstheclown You will save hours of your life, I never do this and have never had an issue. My system is happy with 100%, I go through and end all the stuff I don't need before turning my headset on.
