@@jessieball6195 among all the World Countries Official Singles Charts (to my knowledge). It was one of Madonna biggesst North American Hits of all time and that also helped the single to stay longer in the charts in the rest of the world and be more played on the radio but in most countries it was smaller hit than "Secret", "I'll Remember" or "You'll See" (Released also in 1994 or 1995). Also the video was amazing (shot in Spain) and had an MTV 30 minutes behind the scenes special promoting it as well (and end up winning Best Female Video on VMA's). "Take a Bow" did peak #01 on European Radio Airplay Chart (mostly because it was a huge hit in US and radios played it more for a long time as European radios also play US Chart shows every week in every country) but it peaked only at #17 in European Hot 100 (despite that best European peaks were #02 in Italy and #03 in Finland - Madonna promoted "Take a Bow" in Italy singing it at San Remo festival, that's one of the reasons it peaked so high there compared to the rest of European big countries). In most European countries it even failed to be TOP 10 or even TOP 20 peaking at #08 in Switzerland, #17 in Ireland, #18 in Germany, #19 in Belgium, #25 in France, #39 in Netherlands. In Europe previous single "Secret" was much more successsful as it peaked #01 in Finland and Switzerland, #02 in France and #03 in Italy - It was #04 in European Hot 100 and #05 in UK being TOP 10 in almost all European countries for multiple weeks). "Take a Bow" peaked #08 in Brazil, #09 in New Zealand and #15 in Australia ("Secret" was #01 in Brazil and #05 in both New Zealand and Australia).
The video was filmed in Ronda (Spain), I was there and I made a lot of great photos of madonna in differents places during that week, it was crazy running behind her car around the city, the best thing is that Ronda is a small town so it was easy to follow her running
Madonna co-wrote/produced this ballad with Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds in 1994. She spared no expense in making the music video (mv). It was filmed in two locations in Spain in actual bullrings with a real-life matador and bullfighters. She envisioned the Spanish theme and her 1940s period fashion look in the filming as she would later send a copy of the mv with a handwritten letter to Evita musical British film director, Alan Parker, lobbying for the role of Evita. She got the role. She performed this live with Babyface in the 1995 American Music Awards and it won the 1995 MTV Music Awards for Best Female Video. Appreciate you reacting to Madonna’s artistry.
You will understand after watching "You'll See". It's the follow up to this song and video. In my opinion, You'll See is Madonna's best vocal performance.
He broke her heart. If you look at the lyrics its about saying goodbye to someone who has been lying/playing her. Take a bow is a reference to what you do at the end of a performance. She is equating the relationship to a performance. In other words, he never meant what he said, it was all a facade, a performance…..in the video the comparison is to a bull fighter (which is called a Matador btw). It’s Madonna at her most vulnerable. As others have mentioned, there is a Part 2 to this video called “You’ll See” which portrays the same 2 characters, except this time Madonna is no longer vulnerable or the victim. It’s more about self love/respect and having the strength to move on from a bad relationship.
Yes she used this video performance to win the role of a lifetime, the part of Evita Peron. She won a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role in Evita but was snubbed by the Academy Awards by not getting a nomination which she truly deserved. Great song and video. The one that kills the bull is a Matador but the one that is just a bullfighter is called Toreador.
Hi guys..thanks for this reaction..this song brings so many memories.and I agree "you'll see" should be your next reaction.. you look great Tyler..and Marissa is beautiful as always.
Her video's are not that literal. It's about a bad relationship ending in a break up, compared with a stage show / bullfight. The lyrics are telling it all: You deserve an award for the role that you played, take a bow, the show is over say goodbye. This song was one of her biggest hits in the USA, number one for seven weeks and won best video that year. After all the backlash she got with her 'Erotica' era, where she broke all the rules of how to be / behave like a popstar. The album 'Bedtime Stories' showed a softer and more poetic side, with one song about that period called 'Human Nature' showing her middle finger to the media. Which is another one worth watching.
I like these two but it always crazy to me that this age group needs everything so literal and doesn’t get story telling, irony, tongue I cheek, interpretive art. I saw this at 19 and got it completely, along with other videos like like a prayer, erotica, bedtime stories etc… we didn’t need to take it word for word.
One of my favorite Madonna songs. Still have the original CD single I bought when it was released. Babyface on the background vocals was also amazing. They performed it live together on one of the award shows back in the day. I believe Babyface also wrote and produced it.
Now, watch You'll See. Its the continuation of Take A Bow. Also, y'all need to watch This Used to be My Playground! Its from the movie "A League of Thier Own". It is, for me, one of her most beautiful ballads!
Yes definitely ‘You’ll See’ next as it’s a continuation of the story, and, you’ll see (see what I did there?) Madonna’s different sounding vocal as she took singing lessons to be able to sing the Evita music in the movie, she suddenly has a bell like quality to her singing which lead into the Ray Of Light album. Could be interesting to investigate some of the Evita soundtrack also: You Must Love Me, Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, Another Suitcase In Another Hall and a favourite of mine was Rainbow High. Keep up the good work guys.
If you watch the MTV special 'no bull' it'll explain it all, plus it's a really fun interview. It's not a rodeo but the traditional Spanish bull fight which is well known throughout Europe. The song was written about a relationship with a film star but transferred to a different setting for the video
The title itself basically foreshadows the whole song. Typically (definitely on stage), when someone "takes a bow," they're exiting the stage... Saying goodbye. The song is so gentle and soothing, it could be easy to mistake it for being a more uplifting song. On the other hand, one could interpret the video as being a little dark, so the lullaby pulls it back a bit. "You'll See" is the next part of the song. Hopefully, it'll put things into perspective. Great reaction guys!
When asked, M said this was her favorite music video. Yes, this song is about saying goodbye to an abusive relationship. Check out part 2 for this video called You'll See. The song and video are just as beautiful.
Basically, the music video is about him, breaking her heart, and literally pretending that he loved her, but took her down like a wild beast. Like even the lyrics, she says, you deserve an award for the role that you played. so literally it’s a broken heart and just like a broken heart you feel like you just died inside
Madonna’s greatest heartbreak song in Fall, of 1994. Love the harmony sounds and strings. Notice she only sang “Take a Bow” once in the song. Nobody really realized that back there. Yes she could of name the song “Say Goodbye”
You two are adorable ( lol). Well, this isn’t about a rodeo, it’s a bull fighter who who broke her heart. So, while this is still fresh in your minds, you have to react to the part #2, which is her song/video , “You’ll See”. It is a sequel of sorts, a stunner of a song and video.

There's not a cowboy hat in sight....lol The song is about falling in love with someone who is in the public eye, a performer of some kind, hence there are multiple lyrics about 'all the world is a stage'', 'everyone plays there part' etc etc. This is why there are the scenes of Madonna essentially making love to his image on the tv because the line between the performance and the person has become a point of contestation. I think if you were to engage a little more with the material you and your viewers would find it more rewarding. peace out.
honestly, i love this! i so appreciate your feedback, and honestly will try and implement some of this into the aftershow (there isnt one for this song but for future madonna reactions and other songs as well i would love to implement)!
Its a kind of tragic love story where a famous woman gets obsessed with this bullfighter but after having sex he just took her love for granted and finally left her falling apart. Thats why the director of the video makes a comparison to the bull's agony
He's a matador! And he used her! Used her and tossed her aside. Verrry stylish video. From the matador's "suit of lights" to her chic John Galliano couture ensemble. She submitted this video as part of her audition for the role of Evita.

Matador. Popular in Spain . There are several metaphors and different symbolism in the video. It was shot in Spain, and is an extremely poignant and beautiful piece of art ❤️
It always drives me nuts how no one ever says anything about how Rihanna's Take a bow is so similar lyrically. Of course maybe you don't even know that one but I feel you have probably heard it.
The video plays with a metaphore between bullfighting and passionately hugging (wink wink). The guy kills the bull/coquers the woman, and then he leaves. Them watching scenes of the other on TV is a metaphore for longing, first with Madonna's character, then at the end we discover that the bullfighter also longs for her.
Your next video should be Madonna's You'll See of course. Arguably her best ballad and the music video is the sequel to Take a Bow and beautifully shot.
The video is beautiful and very symbolic. It compares her relationship with him (and the end of it) to the slaughtering of the bull. Watch the video carefully and you'll see how every single frame means something: longing, seduction, heartbreak. Excellently directed.
This was from her 94 album Bedtime Stories which was RnB/New Jack Swing influenced and was a bit more toned down after the Erotica/Sex era. She filmed the video in Spain and used a famous matador and chose 30s period costumes as a last minute plea to cast her in Evita. It was spent 7 weeks at #1 her longest ever and she has only performed it once or twice and never on tour.
Thanks, Marissa! Thanks, Tyler! 🙇♀ The word y'all were looking for is: matador. I really love Babyface's backup vocals in this one. #TylerCreatesContent #TakeABow #Madonna
Fun Fact : She shot this way because she was fighting for the role of Evita, a story she had just been drawn to for years (which she did end up starring in two years later) at the time and wanted to be seen in the style of that character as far as the costuming and settings.
Hi kids, i'm loving your Madonna reactions!!! I really want to see you guys react to her early stuff. I saw you react to Material Girl. That song is ok, check out " Dress you up" it is so great, also you have to check out " Crazy For You" critics said she couldn't make a ballad, and guess what she proved them dead wrong, the song is AMAZING check it out you guys "come on, I'm waiting"
The matador fighting the bull is like their relationship. Dancing round each other in the arena before he plunges in his sword (a metaphor for having sex with her as well as stabbing her in the heart). The bull dies just as their relationship dies after he broke her heart.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LISTEN TO ME, JUST THIS TIME, PLEASE.. if you would just google the name of her song before you watch the video, you would not be confused, and it wont ruin the experience you will have by her incredible music videos.. p.s. PLEASE...
Babyface wrote a song with Michael Jackson around the same time called "Why". MJ recorded it with the group 3T, his nephews. Gorgeous song! Please listen... 😉
Thank you guys for yet another great reaction! Could you please react to Sooner or Later by Madonna live from the Oscar’s? That was one of her best live performances ever
She was in a physically abusive relationship with the Matador. There is a sequel to this story called "You'll See," where Madonna's character shows how she was able to go on and survive the mistreatment of another. "You'll See," in my opinion, is vocally one of Madonna's most powerful tracks, along with "Take a Bow"!
The latin spanish symbolism represents her bfs over the years or maybe one in particular btw artist Babyface is singing the hook it was a collaboration.👍
Now, this is a ballad. Younger generations are aware now! Btw, start reacting to her live performances. I strongly suggest LIKE A VIRGIN performance from THE BLOND AMBITION TOUR, 1990
I was really expecting you guys to comment about the video per se, you know? It's grandeur, beautiful shots, costumes, the imagery... yes it is a lot to process in videos like this but you didn't comment anything really. Wasn't impressive enough? I love your reactions just this one was particularly off to me but keep going :)
I ❤️ this song!!! If you get a chance check out the live performance of this song on the American Music Awards. She's only performed this song on few occasions. It's never been on a on going tour set list. Just a very few cities. I can't wait for you to check out her live performances, I'd start with Like A Virgin 1984 MTV music awards. Peace out ☺️
This is one of her biggest hits, was number one for 7 weeks. She also used the film clip as a resume to get the part of Eva Paron in Evita
In US it was! In UK it was first Madonna music video not to go TOP 10 peaking #16 and breaking her record string of 36 consecutive TOP 10 Hits.

The version she recorded in Spanish "Veras" sounds even better! She should sing in Spanish more. It's on UA-cam.
Absolutely,You’ll See should be next! Nobody does ballads better than her! Would also love to see them react to I’ll Remember.
I disagree. Madonna has had many songs that are much better than that song-including this one.

They are called bullfights, not rodeos. He is a matador. Bullfights originated in Spain. Spain is a European country. (in Europe)
“You’ll See”, the sequel
(then “Living For Love”, to continue the matador-series!)
Just a couple of well intentioned suggestions for making reaction videos.
First: it might be an idea to read through the lyrics so that it can stimulate some discussion about the song and the imagery of the video.
Second: Perhaps even pull up a wikipedia page about the video and read through the synopsis so that you can talk about what you missed or whether you think the video worked or not.

Reaction videos need to be more than pulling shocked or confused expressions every time something a little racy happens on screen.
The video has nothing to do with a Rodeo it is essentially an homage to Spanish culture using the tradition of bull fighting as a metaphor for a destructive relationship. The latin spanish symbolism represents her bfs over the years or maybe one in particular btw artist Babyface is singing the hook it was a collaboration.👍
She really should of done an entire video with Babyface. The two were magic together.
I think she wrote this about Sean Penn. Others disagree. Regardless, this is peak Madonna.
the girl reviewer gives me faith in people of the usa, she sits and takes it in
The music is one thing and the videos are another way of expression using the music.
Now, this is a ballad. Younger generations are aware now! Btw, start reacting to her live performances. I strongly suggest LIKE A VIRGIN performance from THE BLOND AMBITION TOUR, 1990
Love your reaction! Please react to "Human Nature" (also from the Bedtime Stories album) and "You'll See" - a sequel of sorts to "Take A Bow."
Think this guy is having an awakening 😉. Madonna does that lol
Check out Love Tried to Welcome Me by Madonna.
Incredible song... incredible vídeo. But "the sequel" is even a BETTER song.
YOU'LL SEE is amazing ❤️🌹
"A rodeo guy" 😆 you are adorable.
Very good
I was really expecting you guys to comment about the video per se, you know? It's grandeur, beautiful shots, costumes, the imagery... yes it is a lot to process in videos like this but you didn't comment anything really. Wasn't impressive enough? I love your reactions just this one was particularly off to me but keep going :)
Just awesome...!!! One of her best videos...!
(Tyler I must say that you have a beautiful mouth...!)
You need to see the follow up video you’ll see
I think the TV symbolizes that he was emotionally distant/unavailable.
