Good tips, Phil. Books are where you find them, and sometimes, books are where friends and acquaintances tell you THEY saw them. Never hurts to have others letting you know when they come across good picks.
Another good one. Every bookseller should read Booth’s book. One of my old friends was a picker of junk. He bought a radon detector and recorder and offered his service to check for hazards. In reality, he was the hazard as he was able to scope out people’s junk and many times buy it. Yes, think out side the box and sooner or later you find the treasures. Also speak with probate attorneys. When estates get settled many times the books end up on the curb.
Absolutely! I know a guy who is a UPS driver, he buys signs. If he sees an old barn he'll ask if they have signs, comes back with cash, he gets fresh finds throughout the week! Probate attorneys, absolutely. Thanks for watching Mook, glad you liked the video!
Great advice Phil! Local estate sales are so competitive. The best part of having a bookstore is people bringing in books to sell me. I buy a lot on Ebay, but it takes hours of scrolling through listings to find anything worth buying.

Yeah sometimes I am up late at night scrolling on auctions and ebay ect. it can take a very long time, worth it for sure, like you know what you're looking for and can make it happen but it is pretty time consuming. Absolutely most of my leads come from having the physical location as well, definitely the one of the big advantages. Thanks for watching man!

Textbooks are one thing I've never sold, I know they had a huge hot streak for a time but not up to date on todays market. I know people have the ability to rent the books for a small fee than have to buy a book for hundreds of dollars, so I'd assume that market has taken a hit, probably a big one if I had to guess. Wish I could help you ojt better but that's one of the few things I never really got into.

Some ephemera sellers don’t want to deal in books and are happy to get rid of them in bulk. I’ve bought cases of sci-fi paperbacks from an antiquarian bookseller who only wants to deal in 1800s books. Also bought comics from a bookseller who got them as part of a book deal, but doesn’t know about or care about comics. #1 thing you said, it’s all about relationships and treating people right. 🤘😎👍

Estate auctions (at least in my area, rural Idaho) have always been a good source of buying books for me. While you often have to have the ability to move large lots of books, I've gotten some very large collections of books for under $200, sometimes for only $10-$20, just because no one wants to make the effort to move everything.
Ya know most people just don't want to do the work, like moving the collections you've bought. I still am active with the estates out my way, they've remained a relevant source as well. I also have success with book sets and buying them at auctions because no one wants to move them or want to ship them so I generally get them on the cheap, people being lazy works to my advantage, even these recommendations in the video, 99% of people probably won't initiate or get deterred. There's still a lot of books out there and plenty of people willing to sell. Happy hunting!

Most of the time they're just happy to help they never really ask for anything but yes, when they come back to my shop if something worked out I always tell them to pick out some things for themselves. My one guy who helped me line up a pick wanted a couple of items he saw, so if I'm able to make the buy I will give them to him. Always appreciative of the lead and absolutely offer finders fees but nobody generally will take anything from me so I always offer them whatever they want in the pick or to pick out things they want in the shop. If it's other dealers that have helped me out, usually I'm able to return the favor with a lead for them. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!

My Kingdom of Books was definitely an enjoyable read, there are a lot of books out there. I'm currently working my way through Book Row which is good so far, A Gentle Madness is another title I'll read soon, Adventures of a Treasure Hunter is another I've been recommended. Bibliomania. There's hundreds of them, also "books on books" subject material there's just so much out there. I'm gunna start working may way through as much as I can. For one they've been very enjoyable reading and for two there's always something to be picked up upon to potentially incorporate in your own business. Success leaves clues. Glad you're enjoying the channel!
It may take some time, no need to rush, there's always an opportunity some where's sometimes just got to be patient! Check out "tax property auctions" in your local area. Sometimes you can get lucky and pick up a property that goes under the radar, it may need some fixing up but it may well be worth it in the long run.
🤣 it can happen! But most often the scanners or whoever, have almost zero discernment and pass up cream of the crop non barcoded books. At estate sales I've reached over them and pulled books that were unscannable and probably made more off the individual book than the bags they filled for the day. Also if I find the book on the market like that that's very undervalued I'll just buy it 😊

I have so much inventory coming in I fight to keep up with but if it was a case like mentioned before I'd either buy the copy or just price mine as to what I believe is appropriate and will make the sale down the road. If someone wants to give away their books I could care less to be honest. Some are very heavy with online arbitrage it's like under 5% of my business.

Textbooks are one thing I've never sold, I know they had a huge hot streak for a time but not up to date on todays market.
