Even right now there are 120000+ players in Apex, it says everything.
One aspect not mentioned in the video, is PvP games with smaller communities tend to cannibalize themselves. The good players get really good. To cut down on match times, matchmaking becomes less picky, which leads to premade groups and or veterans repeatedly destroying new players. There aren't many people that enjoy being destroyed in PvP games for dozens of hours, until they reach a similar level of skill.
I experience this with Overwatch 2 to some degree. The community is still big, but if you play late at night the matchmaker has to be loose to make up for fewer online players in those late hours, so those games have greater odds of being very one-sided.
You described Ironsight to a tee, and I play that game from time to time because it's fun even though it's pretty much a dead game, but it still trucks along with minimal updates.
It’s not just the smaller PvP games that have this issue, even a massive game like Destiny 2 struggles with this exact same issue. Bungie goes back and forth time and time again with matchmaking. It works for them in the long run because they do have such a large player base. It’s going to be next to impossible for a game like “Concord” to figure that problem out.

I know physical attraction is subjective and it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but these are genuinely some of of the ugliest characters I've seen in a video game.
I'm just going to say it. Physical attraction ISNT subjective. Everyone is attracted to beautiful people, it's just some people have kinks for fat people, stuff like that. There's also ugly people who like attractive people, but those attractive people will never date a ugly person 99% of the time, so the ugly person dates another ugly person and says "oh beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! I'm definitely not just dating this girl because I can't get a hot one!" Obviously there's nuances to it that I'm not covering, but it's very very clear humans have a standard of beauty and attractiveness that has been around since humans first existed. Even children know what that standard of beauty is. People just grow up, and they're a 5-6, so they want to suddenly claim that beauty is subjective when it's categorically false. Now, is it possible to think a 6 is beautiful? Absolutely. But they're still a 6. And is it possible someone truly thinks that a 6 is actually a 10? Absolutely, but that's like . 1% of people who truly believe that and it isn't because of love or delusion.
@@Kratos-eg7ez Women --because of natural--are not really attracted to short-men. I'm not tall, I'm 5'3 and I'm aware not many would find me attractive despite my healthy physique. Sure, but it's not the norm. 😐
It very much matters in the grand scheme of things. Absolutely nobody wants to play a hero shooter with characters that look like they were modeled after people who work at the post office.
People don't seem to realize how much the the character appearance matters. What is the monetization for those games? Skins, people buy skins, why? Because they like the look of the base character and they like the alternative look of it. What cool looking badass(or sexy) character is in Concord? They didn't make it for the avarage player of those games, they made it for their own focus group. It doesn't matter if the gameplay is solid if the thene is boring/ugly, presentation matters alot in a "live-service" And it goes double so if the gane is generic and boring. Look at the First Descendent and look at this, it's night and day, of course those are different genres, but I still think it is relevant. I don't understand, how is it that games with potential get ruined by greedy mandates and poor leadership, like Overwatch, what were they doing for all those years while the game was dying? Because they cancelled PvE. And games like Concord and S*icide Squad get a huge budget to flush down the toilet because the people in charge get too much freedom to ignore what the general audience wants and focus on a none existing audience.

Delaying would be a massive mistake. The game could be in development for another 5 years and not get any better. The issue is the fundamental idea of the game and who they tried to target.
I just feel bad for the developers here who actually cooked, like whoever does the animations, and whoever works on the stuff under the hood for gunplay. That stuff looks tight. Too bad it's brought down by everything else. I think Concord is cool though nothing spectacular. I prefer a more grounded aesthetic but it is very pretty. Artstyle aside, the visuals are top-notch. It just doesn't seem to do anything gameplay-wise, to set itself apart. But what do I know? It feels a little basic. If Sony is asking 40 bucks for this, it's gotta to do more. Sony needs original IP in the FPS arena though, so I do hope this finds an audience. What I'd really love to see is a return to the Killzone franchise. Man, a modern Killzone on PS5 hardware could be incredible.
Aliens Fireteam Elite was fun. I played it and the dlc. Sadly the matchmaking is a poor design for the small amount of players so it made it difficult to find other players to play with.
Me and my friends can't even group up together to play this beta as a joke, im the only one who downloaded it on Friday morning and I still haven't started it
Being from the Oceania region where player count numbers are very low, I feel live service multiplayer games, NEED to have some form of single player component to allow progression when servers are quiet. Games like The evil dead, dragon ball breakers, texas chainsaw, foam stars, knock out city, exoprimal, RE versus, etc all die because when there are little to no players around to populate matches the game ceases to function.
Considering that the peak player count of this game has at most about a third of what lawbreakers did at its peak I’m surprised that you thought this game had a chance to begin with
That's interesting, you made me search for it, Lawbreakers had a peak of 7500 players, lol Currently Overwatch "2" is being played by 25k on Steam... the numbers are so pathetic, a market of hundreds of millions globally and you can't barely reach 100k?
@@shalindelta7 No, because I already have and actively use these accounts. However, I've never had a console or a need for a PSN account, so I don't see a reason to make one just to try out a random hero shooter for a few days.
Lame excuse, you can make a PSN account in less than 5 minutes. People complained about Helldivers 2 because Sony sold the game for countries who didn't had access to PSN, that was obviously wrong. But if you live in a country who have access to PSN and want to play a Sony game online, it is what it is, Sony will sell your data just like Valve, Microsoft, EA, NetEase, etc..
The problem is the game is too expensive for what it seems it's going to be. The game honestly looks fun, but there's so many free to play multiplayer games, one that's gonna charge has to really stand out, this doesn't.
i don't buy online only games that often anyways but I swear they managed to get caught in both video game fatigue and marvel fatigue at the same time.
@bjornironside4674 It's an oversaturation of a type of game. Like we already have good versions of live service games that set the standard pretty high with plenty of examples of failures, too. In order to be successful you have to stand out and at minimum be good lol. Because if not, the players who play these games will just stick with the better ones.
10:56 I don't think there's a big difference between 2015 and 2024. People still want good games. Yes, hero shooters market is much dencer now, but that's not the reason this game was dead after annoncement. The main issue i see is that character design in this game is horrible. 50-70% of Overwatch success was its characters, their designs was so good, that it became, i dare say it - iconic for the industry. I mean, you can see even trash games from Korea get a lot of traction for a little time just because of character designs alone. So yeah, i think Concord fucked up on the basics.
another important note about Overwatch 1, when that game came out for full price and did so well: the cosmetic slot machine in that game cost a single dollar per pull, and if you played the game regularly, you got 1-3 free pulls a day
Those queue times are surprisingly good, if the queue actually works. I guess they're taking really wide MMR slices in order to make games at all. During "the dark times" of Overwatch, high-ranked streamers would select whole other games like Bloons just so they had something to do while in queue because they could be stuck there FOR OVER AN HOUR!
They actually cancelled most of their Live service game initiative. It went from 15 games in development to something like 6. I think this is a very good example of why not pursuing those games was a good idea.
Aesthetics are important for a game. Respecting the male gaze is important for a game. Hiring based on merit, not on quotas, is extremely important to make a game good.

It doesn't matter if the gameplay is solid if the thene is boring/ugly, presentation matters alot in a "live-service"
And it goes double so if the gane is generic and boring.

I can’t even launch the open beta on my PC. It’s stuck at the sign in screen, and the screen is staying white.
Your pc is warning you be grateful 😮
needs more marketing, a 6 month delay and to be free to play. Only chance in hell.
Why do the characters look like mutants I would find in the warhammer 40k setting?
He overshot with the 1000 players 😂 but he was bang on about the “100 potential players” bit and the drop off for all these different reasons.
I'm ugly enough in real life.
There is no reason I have to be ugly in the game too. 😂😂😂
Who could have guessed a game where they put stupid pronouns onto a robot is going to be in trouble
At least Luke mentioned pronouns and that they might have a negative impact, he's making progress
@@Fraxzor
You crying about pronouns would hurt it.
Why are you happy that your whining is randomly mentioned?

Acknowledgement means that they see it as a potential issue.
@@theobservarator6424 There's only one person crying here
Im just going to say this. My bunny skin is worth more than 100 hrs spending time on a game where the developers wont even care about your opinion.
Its not in trouble, its already dead.
another important note about Overwatch 1, when that game came out for full price and did so well:
the cosmetic slot machine in that game cost a single dollar per pull, and if you played the game regularly, you got 1-3 free pulls a day
Those queue times are surprisingly good, if the queue actually works. I guess they're taking really wide MMR slices in order to make games at all.
During "the dark times" of Overwatch, high-ranked streamers would select whole other games like Bloons just so they had something to do while in queue because they could be stuck there FOR OVER AN HOUR!
I'll be shocked if this game sees a release at this point.
Only now? Dude this thing was a dumpster fire from the moment they showed it to the world.
"A trash can with pronouns"
They actually cancelled most of their Live service game initiative. It went from 15 games in development to something like 6.
I think this is a very good example of why not pursuing those games was a good idea.
Aesthetics are important for a game.
Respecting the male gaze is important for a game.
Hiring based on merit, not on quotas, is extremely important to make a game good.
Dei the game. No wonder its not popular.
Who taught you that acronym?
Think about it
