What I don't understand is this is caused by weakness in the muscles & it's treated by exercise basically. I was a body builder in my 20s & I am stronger than most. I'm 42 now & while I'm nowhere near as strong as I was 15 years ago, I still try to workout when I can & yes... I have sat in a chair a lot over the past 10 years but there's no way I can be weaker than people who are sitting in a chair for the past 20-30 years & they don't have these problems. What gives? I was diagnosed with Dysautonomia 12 years ago so I'm always stretching or doing traction on my back & sleeping certain ways etc which according to these videos are the exact way I should be to rid myself of cervical radiculopathy but I've actually GOTTEN it while doing these exercises! So I'm confused... If I keep doing what the Drs tell me & the videos say.... How can it get better if it's only gotten worse? My theory is that my Dysautonomia is generating my nerves & rejecting the therapy. It's such a little understood disease. I've spent 12 years educating myself on my disease + a sports medicine/nutrition degree. I remain a medical mystery.

Bad neck pain, for over 2 years tried many different options. Chiropractor dry needle, physical therapy all kinds of over-the-counter roll-on medications. It's my neck. Very painful when I move it side to side and when I walk on the treadmill the muscles in the back of my neck feel like bricks... I constantly put a heating pack alternating with an ice pack on my neck for hoping to get some relief.... Do you have any suggestions? Thank you

I have two degenerative discs in my neck and two bone spurs that have caused me a great deal of pain for over 20 years. One doctor I had insisted the only way I was going to get better was through surgery. Uh no thank you! I had started doing yoga about three years ago for sciatica and in doing that, I have found that over the years, my neck pain has gotten better and rarely do I wake up in agony. One day I simply noticed my pain was gone but came back once I slacked off on the sleep and stress part. I really need to work on my workaholic tendencies. I really prefer not do the surgery option.
Your video has given me the information I have been looking for as no one had explained to me clearly the cause of my neuropathy and am very grateful, thank you so much, will keep watching
I had a very painful pinched nerve on my left side since I was a teenager, exactly how you described it. Went to doctors, specialists - everything. Nothing worked. When I was in my 20s someone suggested a chiropractor. After two or three treatments, the pain completely disappeared, my arm wasn't number or shaking. It was amazing. After the first treatment, I slept for about 10 hours. The pain never came back but I continued chiropractic for a few months.

I really appreciate you sir for this video. I had lumbar surgery last July. For the past 10 days I've experienced severe pain in my neck, top right back shoulder, and right arm. My right arm gets numb at times. It has gotten worse at night while trying to sleep. I'm also having a hard time keeping my neck straight. My head has been going down almost on its own. Congratulations on the great video. I have been dealing with this issue myself for 6 months and have had slow but very positive improvement. I consulted two neurosurgeons and one fisical therapyst and this video is spot on the information and non surgical treatment aproach they have all given me. Very good video, thanks for sharing. I would just share that in my experience, swimming without pushing hard has also helped me alot in keeping active during the process. Also, i have realized that some doctors want to operate straight away, because theres more money in it for them, even though there are many short term and long term issues associated with that. Regards.
Any exercise or stretching just aggrivated the condition. I finally stopped all that and just let the neck alone and just did normal everyday activity to loosen and keep the neck mobile. It responded great to rest and taking it easy.
Thank you for these well-demonstrated exercises. I’m beginning a recovery program following recent cervical surgery. I just want to comment on the studies you presented at the end. I had a degenerative spine resulting in a 33 degree kyphosis that was corrected with AECF surgery 8 weeks ago. There was absolutely no way that PT exercises alone was going to relieve my pain & poor posture alone. I tried it for 10 years! I am soooo glad I had surgery!
@@AboutVladNope, not at all. That’s why I wish PTs like yourself would add a caveat to these videos so you’re not giving false hope to older people who develop degenerative spines due to arthritis (which is fairly common)
As a 68 year old I had this associated with c8 nerve root. I had pain in shoulder front and back down arm affecting small and ring finger. Pain in actual neck was just sore when palpated .Took anti inflammatory and cocodamol which had minimal effect on the pain for 10 days . Eventually added in a muscle relaxant which helped. The pain was excruciating hence exercise would be a no no. Discovered nerve gliders for radius medial and ulnar nerves which I find helps. Pain probably about 40% improvement this week thankfully. Not something I would want to suffer from again. Hopefully I will continue to improve as I have not been back to gym since which I miss. Meantime I will try some home exercise this week.
Great information, using evidence base and up to date with great edit, that changes in imaging can be a normal finding, keep getting the info out there!
THANK YOU!! I've had rhomboid area dull aches on and off over the years. Seen specialist docs in Neurology, PT and many tests. Their recommendations kept the problem manageable but it recently flared up again. and nothing was working to resolve issue. I went through your moves shown and major improvement by the day.
Thank you so much. When I woke up this morning, all symptoms of Cervical Radiculopath happened to me. So, I have been searching for and found your video and it seems very helpful. I will do the exercises you have shown and hope that it will help and fix an issue.
If your outside shoulder muscle is burning/painful and some tingling numbness in thumb and index + middle finger and pain on rear of shoulder then its most likely your radial nerve. Pain worsens when sitting at a desk or driving. Have experienced this agonising pain for the last 10 days. Went to physio and she tried to massage the radial passage. Try muscle relaxants in evening once home if pain is too intense or anti inflammatory tablets may possibly help even though its a nerve. The pain worsens in the evening due to temperature change etc. Try some heat therapy with a hot bean bag in microwave to elongate the muscles. Going to try some simple radial nerve stretches after this pain subsides to floss the nerve and hopefully be pain free soon to get back to a normal day and sports activity. Hope this helps anyone out there experiencing these symptoms.
Another small win is to work on the phrenic nerve. Once I started doing acupressure massage on this nerve I had enormous relief of neck, shoulder, and back pain.❤️
Me too. Years I’m going through this. Awaiting nerve conduction testing now. Just had another mri this time on neck. Started as tennis elbow over 4 years ago and just has gotten worse and worse. Now it’s, under shoulder blade, down both arms, out my hands on my 4 and 5th fingers and it’s constant. All specialist and physios treated for tennis elbow. I’ve figured out it’s this and advocated for myself. It’s so hard man constant pain. All the time
Amazing timing, I’m definitely going to be using these exercises as part of my recovery process. My left rhomboid has been underdeveloped my entire life. Just recently my physio did a neck adjustment that immediately descended my scapula, which confirmed to me it wasn’t a genetic issue but simply a nerve being pinched, allowing me to activate the muscle to actually do its job. I’m glad I can finally put a name to what this condition is. I’m looking forward to finally having a symmetrical back after all these years of going to the gym and having to compensate with other muscles to lift weights resulting in an uneven physique. Cheers!
Thanks for this great video. My problem is that my neck has bulging discs, thin discs, degenerated facet joints, pinched nerves, neck cramps, due to being hit by cars twice in the last 11 years while rifding the push bike. You are talking about getting good sleep. I am unable to get good sleep due to the chronic nature of my pain that keeps me mostly awake. It is difficult to get a good sleep. My physio tells me to do some gentle exercises but even the shortest walks, lightest resistance training with very small weights bring on symptoms. My body is inflamed 24/7 even with no activity. The mere fact of placing my head on a pillow causes me a lot of pain. I have tried 10 different types of pillows with the same results. I am 68 and would like to try to do some light resistence training because my muscles are wasting. Should I try free weights, elastic bands or machines at the gym? I wish there was some info on how to exercises safely with a bad cervical radiculopathy. I would like to move forward but every time I do super light phisical activity then there is a period of 2 , 3 weeks that I skip the activities to reduce the symptoms. I feel very frustrated because I used to be a very fit person and just 3 years ago I could bench press 75 kg. Now even 5 kg per arm cause me a lot of symptoms.
@E3rehab are you able to do a video on cervical myelopathy? In particular, the rehab and referral recommendations for physiotherapists treating in clinic? Would be great to get some high quality, evidenced-based information!
Thank you for putting this up! These exercises are the same as what was recommended to me in physical therapy. Now I can do them at home. :) (Well, most of them! lol) I have a pinched nerve that bothers me every once in a while, usually from prolonged gaming in a bad position, but these exercises always help.
Great information. I have a c5-c6 and c6-c7 impingement. I've experienced muscle cramps, muscle twitching, and cold arm in left bicep, high blood pressure, and a racing heart for the past 5 months. Can cervical radiculopathy cause these symptoms? Is the high blood pressure and racing heart a response to the nerve pain?
Thanks a million for your comprehensive and detailed advice in regards to cervical degenerative problem I have recently found your channel and both your topics are relevant to issues I am having I have been doing some of what you stated and have learned a lot more peace and blessings to you Energy. Very reassuring. Evidently I injured myself doing a mega spinal training day, working for bridge etc. Been a total nightmare, screaming agony at times, dosed up on multiple meds concerned for addiction: meds wear out, pain again...at.worst right arm incapacitated and doubled over groaning or swearing in agony....seems to be easing somewhat after nearly three weeks. Wish I knew exactly which exercise or exercises I did caused it because I love training but will be living in fear of doing this again, it really is fearful, it has been a proper living hell...how the body can communicate or generate such agonising pain?! But this video gave calm, sensible, pertinent reassurance to the degree possible in such an instance, so thank you.
Nice video. I'm wondering, why not show some nerve flossing and/or tensioning exercises as these have been shown to relieve radicular pain fairly well?
About 4 weeks ago I got up from laying on the couch and got hit with what I thought was a “stiff neck”. It went from my neck down between my should blade and spine. This has happened before so not a big deal. 3 weeks later it’s subsiding but I found it strange a stiff neck would last that long. I had been applying heat and biofreeze, plus light stretching over the next 3 weeks. At that point I was annoyed with the ongoing pain, though lessened, so I went out and bought what I bought would be a batter quality salve than biofreeze, which was tiger balm. I applied some tiger balm before bed and it felt great. The next morning I woke up in never before had and excruciating pain in my neck, down my back and now down my arm, which I’ve never experienced. I could barely move to dress up for work, even brushing my teeth would make me wince in pain. I applied more tiger balm and throughout the day the pain subsided some. The next night I apply more tiger balm, go to bed, and once again I wake up in absolutely excruciating pain. I ordered a cervical pillow which should be here tomorrow. I also got a profesional neck massage. The pain was immense but I grit my teeth and bore it thinking that if I’m paying $150, let them get in there and really loosen those muscles still assuming this was a everyday stiff neck. The massage therapist did mention my right side of the neck was extremely tight and hard to knead into as well my right shoulder sitting forward more than the left. I went to bed last night, without any salve and once again I woke up today in excruciating pain. I made an appointment with a chiropractor for today after work and an appointment with my primary care doctor in 2 weeks. I’m glad I came across this video as it seems to have shed some light on what’s going on with me. Hopefully, between the chiropractor and cervical pillow, plus all these stretches I’ll recovering soon. I haven’t stopped my daily 30 minutes of light cardio but I haven’t done any resistance training in month. I may start with some pushups today.
excellent presentation, good pace. I've subscribed, wonder if you would branch into ideas of "if you combine exercises with tennis, mtn bikng, skiing".
I think I have this to a milder degree and the way I sleep on my side hasn’t helped. My neck when I turn it radiates pain down my back and shoulder blades. Will try these exercises thank you
My pain is bad at night when lying down. My shoulders, biceps start hurting so i dont sleep well. The pain improves during the day--walking in the warm sun helps. Im 75, have scoliosis and have been less active and looking at phone too much. Seems since covid i cut out gym and yoga classes. Now im too painful to return!

@@sitishaqwanahabdrazak7305 yes i do
same here
Thank you for these well-demonstrated exercises.
Did they help in reducing the pain symptoms at all during these 10 years or, you can't tell?
Hey, any updates?
Thank you so much! I am currently facing this issue & have got great knowledge from your explanation. Glad I found E3 Rehab.
Thanks for this amazing and very clear explanation of this issue. Keep up the great work and keep making these amazing videos. Thanks again
thank you so much for providing these infos. Very clear, concise and helpful
I had my first nerve pinching, neck pain during finals week. It's so hard to focus and study. These exercises help tremendously.
Thank you so much. When I woke up this morning, all symptoms of Cervical Radiculopath happened to me. So, I have been searching for and found your video and it seems very helpful. I will do the exercises you have shown and hope that it will help and fix an issue.
did it work
@@taywright6125 This video will only help you up to a point.
@@warriorforgod5949and then what?
i am gonna download your video and keep it on my desktop...absolute genius
Great, easy to understand video. Going to incorporate these into my routine let's hope it helps
Very good Info diff rec to a newbee. . I learned all this the hard way. Surgeries neck n both shoulders. Years 25 of pain rehab. G-luck
Very well presented and explained - well done.
This is so helpful and clear. Your illustrations are fantastic.
Cervical radiculothapy is a fitting term for this conditin cuz the pain ive been going through is damn ridiculous.
Excellent video. Glad I found this channel. Thanks very much.
Wonderfully explained.......
Very informative video❤❤❤❤❤❤
Another small win is to work on the phrenic nerve. Once I started doing acupressure massage on this nerve I had enormous relief of neck, shoulder, and back pain.❤️
Is there a spot u press? I can’t find anything on phrenic nerve acupressure.
Thank you for sharing .time for i will follw all the excercise....i shed tears everytime my neck is in severe pain
Thank you so kindly for your help.
I also feel I can trust you more than any doctor.
thanks, what a professional video, great work!
Great work.. very thorough and professional.. love to know however typical timelines of recovery
I'm not sure if I have this but I'm definitely headed in that direction. Thanks for this video and giving me a chance to protect my body
I’ve done all these tons of times and still have horrible pain and discomfort

So happy I found this video. Thank you!
Cheers!
here you go. everything you need to know is probably here /watch?v=iw8iEQfV8Nc
Heyy are you recovered??
Thank you for a research based approach to treatment.
This is just an EXCELLENT video… Very well made, easy to comprehend, super illustrative. Many thanks!
Wow. Great video and information. Very well put together as well. 👍🏼
:) (Well, most of them! lol) I have a pinched nerve that bothers me every once in a while, usually from prolonged gaming in a bad position, but these exercises always help.
no words you are true doctor
great video as always! Love your approaches to rehab
Am wondering that too.
I experience racing heart and pressures rises when I’m in pain .. it’s from stress. Don’t anyone tell you different! Try some deep breathing
very educational video. well explained. thank you.
Amazing work as always. 👏
Best advice given !
One of the best vids I’ve seen on this. Thank you!
Very helpful instructions!
Hi sir, can you add some advice about sleeping posture when it’s hurts thank you for your video it’s very good
About 4 weeks ago I got up from laying on the couch and got hit with what I thought was a “stiff neck”.
Same thing happened to me. Is yours any better yet?
excellent presentation, good pace. I've subscribed, wonder if you would branch into ideas of "if you combine exercises with tennis, mtn bikng, skiing".
I think I have this to a milder degree and the way I sleep on my side hasn’t helped. My neck when I turn it radiates pain down my back and shoulder blades. Will try these exercises thank you
Excellent video!

My pain is bad at night when lying down. My shoulders, biceps start hurting so i dont sleep well. The pain improves during the day--walking in the warm sun helps.
