Glad I found this video. I was asked if I could make stencils with my maker and I said of course! All the while having no idea of what product to use and how to keep the letters intact for a stencil. Thanks! Now when they tell me what it should say I can make it no problem and tell them what to use to stick it down!
I had to come back and attest that this works perfectly. I had been going crazy and wasting sheets but once I started following this directions I have had no problems! 💕 Thank you! 💕
This was an awesome tutorial!!! I made a stencil to do a gingerbread man. I was going to teach a lot of students to paint a gingerbread man and had only about 15 minutes for each group. Stencils for everyone made it go so fast!! I’m so excited that I can streamline the process with my reusable stencils!!
NOTE: .007 = 7/1000th of an inch = 7 mils. A mil has nothing to do with millimeters. Oracal 651 is 2.5 mils thick. Stencil plastic can range from 4 to 15 mils thick or so. A credit card is 30 mils thick.
CUTTING HACK : tape two cutting matts together before loading and use more pressure and it will cut in ONE PASS , I make alot of stencils and this NEVER fails me.
I never thought to do this!!!! I gave up cutting stencils on my maker and just use my us cutter now. It would be nice to have consistent results on my maker.
Thank you for this suggestion. I have an Explorer Air 2 and did all the things to cut a stencil out of the chopping mats from Dollar Tree, yesterday. The design is ADORABLE, but didn't go all the way through even though I selected the toughest material and did 2 passes...wasn't successful. I'll try this suggestion.
@@jenniferallred7248the chopping matte may be alittle to thick for it to cut. I buy 6mil mylar off of Amazon and it works beautifully cutting and stenciling my images
Did you mean you use the transparency setting with deep cut blade and more pressure, as well as the 2 mats together? Or have you found something better since that video came out? Thanks in advance :)
Interesting. Another vid said to upload then save image/text as a cut file. Did not mention slicing it. Also, a fine tip blade was used instead of a deep point, then a custom setting was made to allow for more pressure. Learning so much as I enter into this Cricut world. :) Thanks for the vid!

Hello there. I'm knew to my cricut explore 2. Could u please tell me what setting to put it on to create the stencil. I used the vinyl setting but it didn't come out right.
A member who is looking at making stencils. My question is, can these be used on curved items, ie small stencil on drinking glasses. Bought the Grafix and going to start with my simple stencils for my cardmaking. But would like to add some pizazz to our glasses and cups. :)
thank you for this!! will the “stems trick” work with stencils I will be creating for etching glass? would I be able to free hand with the letters with etching cream?
Use removable vinyl for etching glass. And no you need to use the etching cream all at the same time for one piece. There are some great tutorials out there on how to etch glass.
REALIKE Cutting Mats works perfectly with Cricut Explore One/Air/Air 2/Maker or Silhouette Cameo 4/3/2/1 , 12x12 inch, 4 Mats include two LightGrip , one StandardGrip, one StrongGrip.
I have a new Maker, new user, and I bought all 3 recommended materials: deep cut blade, craft sheet .007, and spray from these links and have tried 3x with no success! I followed the instructions twice and made adjustments, but the plastic is way too thick even when I added more cutting pressure... the cut does not even go all the way through even a simple large cut, I'm bummed and will be returning all of these items to Amazon.

It attaches the inside parts of the letters to the stencil. Like with the letters E, P, D etc so they don't disconnect from your stencil. Otherwise you'll have to place the insides of the letters by hand every single time and hopefully not lose them.
Ummm I have the cricut maker. It's detects all blades. It won't let me use a deep blade of it says a fine point blade. I've tried everything. I can't even cut basswood or balsa on any settings. It's going on 1 year and I've tried daily. I'm selling my cricut cause it's not what think it is
Design space will tell you 'fine point blade' but just ignore it and manually change the blade to the deep cut blade, load the mat and go. At least that's what she is saying in the video and you can definitely do that cos I just did it on my maker 3 ;-) It didn't cut through with the settings she said though!
If you don’t place the “twig” then the centers of the letters will not remain intact, so when you go to paint with your stencil all the centers of the closed letters like e, o, p, etc. would be painted in and your letter will not look correct.
So that the centers of the letters remain intact. Without the twig attaching the center of the letters to the outer part of the stencil, when you went to paint with your stencil the centers of the letters would all be painted in. (so an o would become a dot)
In the stencil world we call this bridging. You are making a bridge between the middle pieces of letters and the rest of the stencil. The bridge keeps the little pieces from cutting out completely and thus ruining the stencil. Make a very tiny rectangle as Becca shows and place your bridge aka rectangle partly on the stencil and partly on the center of the letter. Then when you have all the centers bridged select all and weld it together.

Is all this possible with the Explore Air 2?
Thank you MGL! I didn’t hear if you said, but can I cut the plastic with my explorer 2 for stencil making?
yes you can..i have used mine before
In the beginning she said this can be done with the explorer series and maker series.
I was wondering too as the explore sounds like it may have an issue recognizing the deep cut blade since it asks for the fine pt

Would the engraving tool work or what blade should I use?
Can you place the adhesive treated stencil on a painted canvas? What do you to prevent the painted canvas from damage?
I always get confused when it says liner side is there a easy way to remember that. Thank for video
If card stock or craft plastic is sticking less to your mat, you can tape the edges of the product with a low tack tape to the mat.
Is a Deep point blade the same as Deep Cut Blade?
Thanks!
I’m trying to find a material that I can use when bleaching shirts. Do you feel that this craft plastic will hold up?
Can I use this plastic in the Cricut Joy? I just need small 3 or 4 inch stencils.
Will the krylon peel the semi gloss paint or wood stain off the wood when lifting the stencil from the wood?
Can you use the plastic with the Joy?
Super cool!.

Can a Cricut Joy be used on this material?

I'm still a little confused as to WHY you made those little rectangles to connect to the inside letters? What did that do?
It attaches the inside parts of the letters to the stencil. Like with the letters E, P, D etc so they don't disconnect from your stencil. Otherwise you'll have to place the insides of the letters by hand every single time and hopefully not lose them.
Lower case e obviously, not uppercase like I wrote above.

You can get stencil fonts
Yeah but they're not always cute
I don’t understand why to placed the “twig”/tiny rectangles on the letters.
No one knows. Unfortunately, Becca forgot to tell us. Looks to me that we don't need it.
If you don’t place the “twig” then the centers of the letters will not remain intact, so when you go to paint with your stencil all the centers of the closed letters like e, o, p, etc. would be painted in and your letter will not look correct.
Ohhhh, gotcha. Thank you for the clarification. I feel so accomplished now! 😁
She explains exactly why you need those.
@@michelesfibers yes, I acknowledged her explanation 2 days ago.
Why are the stems necessary?
So that the centers of the letters remain intact. Without the twig attaching the center of the letters to the outer part of the stencil, when you went to paint with your stencil the centers of the letters would all be painted in. (so an o would become a dot)
that seal spray smells even DAYS and WEEKS after using it
You lost me around minute 5 with the pieces translate over and putting the sticks in the middle of the loops of the letters. Please explain.

@@malissastreeter5670 Thank you so much for the explanation. It makes sense now.
I don’t understand why you have to make that little line thing you put on every letter and why you don’t put it on the w or the m.
Wait you need to pay money to print or cut??? i heard you need to pay if you wanna cut more than 20 images, is that true???
Cricut decided not to push through with that. You can now upload as many files as you want to Design Space.
