I bet it would’ve been killer to be friends with these guys at the time- fucking around, drinking, and getting to see them play their best songs right in front of me in their rehearsal pad…
David is the reason im a drummer...remember seeing them play live on MTV back in the late 90s and i was in awe with his style and approach to the drums. #1 inspiration.
Same here when I was about 6 my brother introduced me to Korn, then he showed me Got the Life I instantly wanted to play drums since, I've been playing drums since I was 9
I was lucky enough see LAPD play back in the early 90's. , Dave was a kid sitting on a milk crate and playing like a monster with a marching snare. I was floored and have since then tried to slam drums like that, underrated. He's "nu metals" John Bonham.
Guys there is another camera man in the room who looks like he's not playing with all the buttons and turning the camera on its side. We really need to find that video.
David was the literal back bone of that band. Without David the band wouldn’t have been what it was. He’s beating the living shit out of those drums and that’s why they were so heavy!
Every member was integral to this original sound. But once they started maturing out of the 90s, David became the least necessary member. Ray fucking slays now
@@Zeta9966 Wrong, very wrong. David's drumming style and songwriting gave Korn's songs that special something that helped the songs achieve a unique identity and take them to another level. It’s so cool to get to watch a young David play drums for Korn. The sticks heights are so high, hi hats super sloshy and loose. He seems to tune drums high, then hits super hard to draw out low end from them. Thank you so much for sharing this.
I disagree. He's underestimated for a reason. He didnt attend drum clinics, so he was well off the radar as a drummer back then and all the way through 2006. Im a drummer myself and have been since i was 8. Ive also been in a competitive drumline for 6 years. Not the shitty ones. Having said that, please believe me when i say that the shit that he's put on the first few albums is highly creative. Lol it took some thought to add the groove that made korns sound. His playing was too unique. He was also in the band that founded most of the heavy bands of today and that founded the sound that elitist djent overachiever bands use nowadays, lol. They founded nu metal dude. He's earned his place as one of the greatest, in the respective spot.

The drums on kill you weren't that good on the album, that makes me sad, but happy to know even though David's track could have been better, peachy is still one of their best albums.
If they had the drummer they have now back then, they would have just sunk in the background of a sea of all the same sounding bands. David definitely elevated them into a spotlight all their own.
The best part about these rehearsal clips is some of the songs they played here are some they didnt really play live all but maybe once or twice maybe not at all which makes it better.
Everyone bitchin about the whole David/ray thing should be happy that the band still even EXISTS in 2019 in some semblance and still tours and sounds pretty fukn original.....it's like 25 years which is unheard of these days for a band. Count your blessings instead of whinging.

No one miss head when "See you on the other side" came out, but without David the band never sounds like back them. Think how awesome would be "KoRn III Remember who you are" with David's drums.
Head was a huge part of Korn's sound. All 5 members were integral in creating the band's sound. If even a single member wasn't there, the first 4 records (especially first 2) would've sounded drastically different.
I can't even believe how much more I love the real Korn with David. Head is quite vital. None can be replaced. I may have missed Nirvana, but I saw the sh!t out of Korn and love those badasses forever.
I always like Dave on drums too, but to be honest Ray is a really good drummer as well. The only thing I don’t really like are all the fills he adds into existing koRn songs. I get that it’s him giving it his own flavor but it irritates me when I hear extra shit in songs I’ve known for decades
If I could travel back in time, I'd break the button on his camera that allows him to do that stupid negative effect.
exactly same thoughts here, fuck that fucking idiot behind the camera :D
I thought it was kinda cool, but it got annoying after a while, especially when it stayed negative for too long
