Welcome to the twentieth video in my "'Romeo and Juliet' GCSE English Literature Revision" series! In this video, I discuss how the theme of conflict and violence is presented in Shakespeare's classic play. In order to do that, I think about what is meant by 'conflict and violence', analyse ten key quotations that are relevant to the theme (and add in some helpful contextual information too!), and pose a 'big question' for you to think about too!

The fact many months/years after doing these videos you are still coming back & answering the kids questions.
Top bloke Sir, thank-you from them all.
Btw have you noticed how well written & polite most of the posts have been. Now that’s not the norm on the internet. They are a credit to you.
YOU ARE CARRYING ME THROUGH ENG LIT. THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!
Good luck
These videos are really good I’ve crammed ur whole series on a Christmas carol and Romeo and Juliet.I though that you could zoom into certain words and their connotations further for more analysis purposes but ur videos are really good anyway👍🏽
THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR YOU ARE THE SOLE REASON I GOT A 9 IN MY RECENT MOCKS! 🙏🏻
Hi, would you be able to make a video on themes such as roles of men/women in the play, and themes such as religion or revenge, as these are quite difficult themes to make many points about, these videos are super helpful thanks :)
An interesting request! Although I can't guarantee I'll be able to directly cover those topics before this year's exams, you could indirectly accumulate some notes on these topics by looking at:
Religion - Friar Lawrence + Fate
Gender - Family and Relationships, The Capulets, Tybalt, Mercutio, and perhaps even Conflict and Violence too.
Revenge - A tricky one. Conflict and Violence are probably your best bet (based on my current videos), but looking at the chain of murders (Merc, Tyb, and Paris) would be a shout.
Hope that's helpful?
To answer the question how about both. Shakespeare uses the theme conflict to draw the audience attention in by promising them it isn't just a sappy love story and have them hooked at the violence displayed. But on deeper levels the conflict is there to show audience that conflict only leads to terrible disasters and the tragic ending would never have happened if the families were able to sort out the issues they have with each other (if they do even remember it)
Good luck for Today everyone !!!
Thanks so much sir!
THANK U SO MUCH
