Welcome to the twelfth video in my "'Romeo and Juliet' GCSE English Literature Revision" series! In this video, I discuss how the theme of family and relationships is presented in Shakespeare's classic play. In order to do that, I think about what is meant by 'family and relationships', analyse ten key quotations that are relevant to the theme (and add in some helpful contextual information too!), and pose a 'big question' for you to think about too!

My gut response is to say the relationship between Mercutio and Romeo is the second most important since it is so unique, and like the close relationship between Romeo and Juliet, it is the only significantly close relationship (besides with the Friar) that is not within a house. Plus, his death leads to the eventual downfall of the story.
Hi! Just to clear up, at 19.34 would it have been unmasculine for mercutio to declare a fight or for Romeo to reject one??
Unmasculine for Romeo to reject one because he's basically unwilling to defend his honour! If anything, Mercutio offering to fight in Romeo's place is super masculine because it is both violent AND sees him protect his male friend too.
