So Biff Tannen and Luke Skywalker walk into a bar...
Brandon Burrows Buttheads! :
+Brandon Burrows They buy it and turn it into the Star Wars cantina.
Charles Saint The only thing they need to convert it to a cantina is some sick jizz band playing on loop.
What? Are you implying that this scene was almost a direct rip from Star Wars? Crazy talk.
+Brandon Burrows Why not? All you need is Han Solo and Chewie waiting at a booth. :P
This game was embarrassingly important to my youth. I ran a Wing Commander RPG club on AOL.
I may have been in it... thanks for teaching me English :)
@@mkb7001 Do not be embarrassed... It is well enjoyed by so many, esp by youth in the 1991 original.. . it changed my life for writing and art forever!
Malcolm McDowell, John Rhys-Davies, Mark Hamill & Tom Wilson. ...... what an excellent company actors. Instead of superstars they picked real characters and people who can act. Great job!
+Un Sinn Kim It is just a shame they didn't stick with the same cast for the movie.
@@danielsingleton9743 i can understand the different cast since the 'movie' was starting from game one. Still, would it have been hard getting people who can act? And a decent script? And a good VFX team? And a competent director? And....
8:36 to 9:02. I do not know why, but this brief interaction was always profound for me. An old vet, down on his luck, goes to another to ask for a drink, but is instead given money for a meal that would do him good. Later, that down on his luck vet is met once more and for that meal he gives Blair some vital intel. It's karma.
This series was the one that made me realize people were starting to take games seriously as a form of entertainment. In these 13 minutes, we had Luke Skywalker, Biff Tannen, Malcolm McDowell, Sallah from the Indiana Jones movies, movie level acting, drama and intrigue...it started here.
Nah, this was quite a well made interactrive SciFI movie actually. WC3 already was good, and this was better in every aspect. The next game, Prophecy, was just bad in comparison. Plus Malcom McDowell just... NAILED IT.
I think this game also touched on an interesting theme that not a lot of movies or games touch upon.
What happens after the war?
What happens once those whose identity is entirely made up on the concept of waging war.
What happens once all the veteran s return and there isn't enough jobs to go around?
Personally I am looking forward to the next Frostpunk game as it will deal with some of those themes.
@@JohnDoe-du3vq don't confuse a shitty movie with an amazing game, and don't _dare_ call that movie Wing Commander IV when it's 'adapting' this game's originator. That's an insult to this masterpiece
I miss it... those were the days man...
Maniac: "Hello, anybody home?!"
Blair: cuts Maniac's arm with a lightsaber.
11:34
"Of course, I would've backed you up if he tried anything...Oh you se-- is he gone? COME ON! *squints to check the guy has gone* come on pal...."
One of Maniac's funniest scenes ;)
33hegemon Truly is.
5:24 In the original cutscenes, there's a guy that screams "Yeah Tolwyn, he's got the answers!" I always got a kick out of hearing it. You can't hear him at all in these HD videos. These HD versions also makes it very obvious that the actors overdubbed their lines later. The original interlaced videos kind of hid that fact.
One of my favorite games. First time using CDs :-)
This game was 6! cd's
Omg, so much video.
"It's renegade pirates I tell you!" that guy made me crack up. Let Eden speak damn you!
10:09: "Of course I'm still flying. What else is there?"
This line both perfectly fits Maniac's never-ending pursuit of glory and excitement, and also makes him out to be kind of tragic. He's spent basically his entire life flying and fighting for the Confederation. He knows literally nothing else and can't conceive a different kind of life. To make it worse, his personality also makes him ironically a poor fit for long-term military service. In the novelization they talk about how he keeps getting passed over for promotion due to his hotheadedness and glory-seeking tendencies making him seem poorly-suited for command, though he grows into the role once forced into it while fighting with the Border Worlds Militia.
But the novels are beta canon, and Wing Commander Prophecy mostly ignored that character development, though they do give him another go at the "growing into the responsibilities of command" character arc a bit in that game.
I loved this game as a kid.
Back when games were good....
Damn straight. When PC gaming was PC gaming before Xbox console bullshit ruined it..
back when games were good but still people moaned that these were just interactive movies and not real games. pah i say, there will always be room on my HD for a game like this.
I was mostly a kid when i played through this game, and while it was amazing, due to how interactive it was with its cutscenes and everything, the space scenes, from hindsight, is kind of stale. But it was cool when i was young. :P
This came bundled with the Creative PC-DVD encore DX3, good ol times...
Yeah I had the drive also. It was cool since those were the first steps and days for me to get introduced to DVDs. Also remember the movies I watched from it using TV-output. Those WC IV cutscenes looked very good on TV 😊👍
Candidate for G.O.A.T game intro right here, blew me away when I played it in 1996
Classic intro. So much better now that it's not interlaced :)
Swindled...I miss the pixel art and wing...person Spirit with branching missions. We need a fan remake of WCI and II.
'he´s THE man!' 6:47
Is that a Star Trek pinball machine when Blair walks into that bar!!!???😎😎😎
Probably both a easter egg from the production team and a little Joke aimed at Hamill.
Brings back memories... I also congratulate you on making a superb! quality video... This has to be by far the best script quality video of wing commander I've see on youtube... leads and bounds in quality of everything else... nice job! now if only you can make the full movie with all the other cutscenes eh? :D
Seether and the Black Lance =
Pure Evil in “WC4”.
3:40 that scream...
You should check out the blooper reel for these cutscenes.
Got me good, top comment haha. "Biff Tanen and Luke Skywalker walk into a bar...turned it into a star wars cantina."
Loved this game ....
When Maniac talked about fertilizer, Blair should have answered "better walking over it rather than being covered in manure!"
HAHAHA “Back To The Future 3” reference?
what are you luke...a chicken!?
Ahhhh... The good old Wing Commander days!
Guy had the NERVE to put a knife to Blair?! THE Mark Hamill?! Must’ve had a death wish! Blair would’ve had him crying like a kid with a skinned knee if he tried to carry out his proposed threat!
One of best games ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wing Commander and Fallout are my two favorite video game franchises of all time. Both have developed such a rich back story that there's so much to draw from.
Origin and Chris Roberts nailed it with this franchise. It was the Star Wars of the PC game industry. While the plot is much different, there's some influence from Star Wars and it's a good thing. But I felt that it also drew from elements of Star Trek, which can be seen in Privateer.
Unfortunately, they wrecked the movie by not sticking to the canon of the story. They also bombed on the casting of the characters. Saffron Burrows played a good Angel but Mark Hamill and Malcolm McDowell were perfect for Christopher Blair and Tolwyn respectively, among other cast members in the game. I don't know why they didn't cast many of these actors in the movie. It's sad that the movie had to die with the franchise.
They might not have had a choice. Plus, wasn't the movie supposed to be early in their career?
Best game ever made!!
Just waiting for squadron 42 now
Yeah I've been waiting for that since the KS
@@Fuchsia_tude6 years later. You're both still waiting
Wing Commander III - IV Legends !!!
such an interesting start of a video game. real slick.. I wonder if star citizen will be the same?
lol
I come from a future with COVID pandemic to tell you that Star Citizen still is not released. Maybe when we finish colonizing the Solar System?
11:38
"Oh yeh--se--is he gone? COME ON *squints*...come on, pal?"
HAHAHAHAH, funniest scene in the game.
It made me sad that you can't mimic Seether's afterburner mine maneuver in game. I spent hours trying to ignite a mine with my afterburners.
They're coming back soon.
That thug in the bar was lucky Luke didn’t pull out his lightsaber
2:54 - *screensaver pops up*
*PENISES*
Got a huge star wars vibe
Seether would have made a good pilot with the Empire.
Featured extra by the bar
Why is this in 1080p? The game was released in DVD format. 480p is as good as it's going to get.
Because UA-cam compression is notoriously bad both for audio and video. By upscaling the original video to 1080p, it won't be degraded as much by UA-cam.
Does that happen even with UA-cam's recommended settings (h.264 VBR & AAC-LC)? Does it happen on conversion to webm?

Thankfully there are no rat-hoods in space.
That was audio edited the victims screams were edited out pathATIC
You forgot the subtitles
next part plis :)
4:07 - sounds courtesy of aluminium foil, I guess.
Say what you want, but for the time these Special effects and Star Cast was at Star Trek Series level :). I got the game like ages after release, and LOVED the video alone of it. The story alone was so... epic in both 3 and 4. To bad Prophecy and the Movie fucked it up though :(.
Prophecy wasn't so bad. It was just in response to people saying Wing 4 had too many cinematics, which in my opinion is wrong!
Matthew Carey
Meh, the story was horrible in comparison. The Graphics were nice though... just ... the music man... it was such a letdown in comparison to the previous ones.
I don't think you should be so harsh on it :)
Matthew Carey
If anything, I'm not harsh enough ;). We needed more Mark Hamill goodness with epic music and shooting stuff while the jaw of the guy bringing you the ladder drops each time you ended an epic fight.
:P.
sand princess, seriously?
Remember when PC games were "PC Games" and not "modular console games"?
I miss the PC gaming 90's.
The game was also released on Playstation. But i know what you mean.
that changed when the ps1 came out
*****
Shit kiddo. Fuck off and let the adults have conversation.
+OldSchoolGamer1203 phantasmagoria 1...now that was some crazy ass shit back then..
Actually this was one of the first "consoles are better"games.
8:57 - I always hated that dubbed line....
Die schlechteste Computeranimation die ich je gesehen habe.
The worst computer animation I've ever seen.
This game is 22 years old. What the fuck do you expect and for a game that came out the same year Mario 64 was released this is fucking amazing.
