This is one of the few times where a demo completely sold me on a game. One of the greatest, most atmospheric, and most horrifying intros in any game I've played.
I remember getting excited about this game, it was using the doom 3 engine and the graphics were pretty ahead of its time, my computer could barely play this game at the time. I still remember being around 16 or 17 years old counting down the timer for Half-Life 2 as well as Doom 3, those were pretty Advanced for their times as well. I miss those days obviously because I was young and free of responsibility for the most part, the only thing that was important to me was these brand new experiences that I was about to have with these games.
People who made this game had vision, style, innovative gameplay ideas, knack for intriguing story and horror - and they were not afraid to take risks. Figures Bethesda would dismantle them and shit all over their original brand by randomly assigning it to other studio's game which was intended to be a completely separate franchise. Gaming executives are among the most idiotic people on this planet.
its like youre a character in a horror movie about where the shit goes down but because youre not a mindless actor it goes the opposite direction of horror movie
I might guess each games sold on steam is/was tied to serial number like the stand alone copies were and the random number generator that generated all the keys/serials for all the copies must have hit the limit of numbers that the algorithm used can generate. in order to fix that would have to have re written or changed some code and if it happens too long after the came out and is too far out of production companies won't bother or in this case may have already gone out of business which could be another reason but, i don't think they had tanked quite yet at the time Prey copies ran out.
I remember watching my cousin play this as a kid back in the day and it freaked me out so much I've been trying to remember what the game was for years and finally figured out it was this!
Bethesda: Hey, let’s make a sequel to this game and illegally not pay the employees enough so we can buy them out of existence and then wipe this game off the face of steam! [Everybody Disliked That]
I'm pretty sure you can tune the jukebox or a radio in the bar to Art Bell's Coast to Coast AM and there is a caller describing the UFOs. I may be remembering a different part of this game though.
To ,me it is the best PREY of all. Regrettably the German Youth Code Officials did not liked what they had seen there and not only cut out scenes from the Into they deemed as to violant but also scenes in the game itself. Like the one of the kids in the school bus being turned into demons- So in the beginning Tommy comes over as some NO Good with anger issues just killing those guys at the bar because of a mood swing. The scene in which those people had attacked his girl friend had been missing in the German cut. I only know this from the Preview - Convention Videos show in Germany. There those scenes had been brought up untempered by the German authorities.
Prey 2016: Stupid helicopter scene. Doesn't have Don't Fear the Reaper Prey 2006: Get Abducted by aliens. Kill 2 assholes. Does have Don't Fear the Reaper
1:57 The Stand opening combo 2:276:16 hehe 7:17 hehe 7:11....you had your minute already. It started at 6:16 and ended at 7:17 after realizing at 7:11 he needs a minute but that minute was used to think of needing a minute.
This next to bioshock has the craziest scene in it. I did not know what to expect when you get pulled into the spaceship and back then I just got a good powerful computer and the graphics blew my mind. Also the aliens running upside down and draging people people trapt the n part were you see like a planet in a display case go through a portal and your on the planet looking up at these huge aliens so immersive man
Aperently, the 2nd game would've had a us play a u.s marine that crashlanded on the sphere in the first game and is a bounty hunter in a Galaxy that he would've teamed up with this guy. But Bethesda and every other games company/publisher are all s**t heads.

What a great, intro/ monologue. "The world is full of stories, and from time to time, they permit themselves to be told...."
This intro makes me care about the characters.... can't say that about many games.
Man this game was BIG back then. Huge in 2006. I built a new computer just to play it and the graphics were ahead of its time.
I always liked how the grandpa who knew what was coming, just chills and drinks a beer.
Ikr
Tommy started busting them fools in the kneecaps LOL
after all these years, I never had goosebumps like this in a game intro
the action start at 4:58
my fav fps of all times , the atmo the puzzles the bosses, the mechanics, the story everything great
One of the best video game intros of all time. Along with Bioshock.
crazy cuz 2K published that game as well
I can't even say this game was underrated, it did well. But this is one of the greatest prologues of any game.

i remember playing this demo of this on my mates 360, the graphics were amazing at that time man..dont fear the reaper
Honestly? The graphics are still really good, even for today.

i know what to expect, and i still get chills. what an amazing opening sequence.
**Immediately switches the music to Judas Priest and turns it to max volume**
I see you're a man of culture.
Its not Judas priest, a real judas priest fan would know that
I'm still really pissed, that the original Prey 2 was cancelled.
One of the best intros to a game ever... followed by a decent actual game.
its like youre a character in a horror movie about where the shit goes down but because youre not a mindless actor it goes the opposite direction of horror movie
Immediately puts on Judas Priest. I approve.
that's blue oyster cult not Judas prei
@@WoodsAreBeautiful you can set Judas Priest - Another Thing Coming on the Jukebox and it's what playing in the background at the bar in the video.
That's the first thing I always did
insanely cool intro, thanks for uploading
Modern game developers could learn quite a bit from this
this game was such a gem
I like that they played Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper, I love that song
Yes it fits too well. Ood
This game is pretty good, SO GOOD, that they literally ran out of digital copies on steam. (they ran out of serial numbers)
I was wondering what happened to the store page.
I was wondering the same thing. How is that even possible?

you can redeem the keys form the physical copy on steam as far as i know. that's how i got it.

Still looks awesome!
wunderbutt of course ..the best game ever
CV11 sends his regards
Civilian 11 wasn't lying this is cool as shit
This game is legendary this intro will forever be remembered
One of the BEST intro made for a video game (with Half Life 1)
I think it's actually the id tech 4 engine(doom 3).
@@JustNems I think they mean that this intro is one of the best alongside the intro to Half-Life 1, not that this was made on the GoldSrc engine.
@@majora4prez543 ohhhhhhhhh that makes sense
I come back to this intro because it is fucking amazing. Especially with Blue Oyster Cult
Civvie11 feeding off my nostalgia brought me here.
I'll never forget the first time I played this as a demo from the xbox magazine.dont fear the reaper is a perfect song in this.
Haven’t played this game since it came out, somehow just as amazing as I remembered it being. Graphics are surprisingly solid
"You could have killed them!", As he's bludgeoning their bodies on the floor with a wrench

Great Game very unique it's ashame they didn't make an actual follow up to it nonetheless to say the 2017 Prey game wasn't bad though either.
