Yeah kinda, all Deus Ex did really was take real life conspiracy theories that are decades old and make a great game and amazing story based off it all. Global government, rise of the UN and bureaucratic state agencies, War on Terror, Nanotechnology, depopulation, China as a global power etc.
Well, the attack on the 9/11 was... Somewhat expected. The twin towers had already suffered prior terrorist attacks, for one reason or another it had truly become a beacon of western hope and prosperity. As for the pandemic... Even more expected. Many had warned that the greatest treath in our modern interconnected world could be disease. And this one gave us plenty of warning of its coming. It's first outbreak happened in china in 2003 (SARS V1). It then resurfaced in the middle east in 2008 (SARS-MERS) but both times was contained. Not so much this time (SARS V2, nicknamed COVID-19 when it was yet not confirmed to be a variant of SARS, back in late 2019 when the Chinese govt reported it).
