Great channel, thanks for the videos! I have three VCORE Pro 97 HD-s now and I think it’s the best racket I’ve ever played with. And I had like 20 different frames (mostly Yonexes) during my 20+ years in tennis. I’m mid 30s strong 4.5 player who plays most singles with a bit of doubles and this racket does everything great for me strung with almost any poly around 55lbs. Yes, you have to swing fast and hard all the time but it’s quite easy to do as frame is super quick thru the air for ~355g all in weight! Give HD a demo, I did alongside with 330/310 and VCORE 95 and HD came up a clear winner!!!

Cool video. A couple of feedbacks/ideas:
    1. I like it much better when you actually measure them strung, on your machine. That allows us to see what quality control discrepancies might look like, to gauge whether it's a safer bet going with a lighter version + customizing, or if even with QC off on the heavy side the version of the racquet in question is still manageable
    2. Would be cool for you to compare Yonex's lines. I honestly don't understand the differences between Vcore, Vcore Pro and Ezone lines as they all have versions that intersect specwise.

As you point of HD is a great racquet if you have the power or string low or with gut/multi mains, and you have a flatter game. It serves and returns very well, but I found thin 20mm beam a little difficult to return big hitters, it needs some weight. Its also a great doubles racquet. I use mainly vcore 95, but also have this in my bag if I want more precision in singles or play doubles. It feels stiffer than its RA, doesnt feel plush. Really loved it on my one handed backhand.. you can swing freely without being worried about hitting long, but takes a lot of energy. Hope this helps.

Great video. I use the previous gen (blue/orange). Wanted to like the HD - but I like 16x19 for the spin.
One thing to note Mr. Spin didn’t mention. These - and other Yonex players racquets - are still made in Japan - so Quality is top notch as opposed to Wilson’s China mfg facilities.

I have been using the old Wilson blade k factor pro tour 93 inch 18/20. I finally bought a new racket. My Yonex VCore Pro 97HD 18x20 is on the way. The weight is very similar and with the string pattern being the same, I feel like it will be a good update.

Hi, loved the review! How would you compare this to the blade v7 18.20 and pure strike 18.20 3rd gen,
2 years ago, I switched from a steam 99 and pro kennex FC's destiny racket to a pure aero as I love brushing the ball, but the pure aero in during the past 2 years had been extremely inconsistent for me, the ball goes long most of the time, if I brush it goes really short, from the past 3 weeks I've been playing with 2012 pro staff six one 90 blx and the classic prostaff 6.1, these rackets are 360 and 380 grams strung respectively, I love the heavy stable feel and plow through of these old prostaffs but I need something lighter to swing during matches so the vcore pro 97 HD at 342gstrung weight seems to be the best for me. Advice would be really appreciated since I do not have a demo option here.

vcore 97 pro 310 is my raquet of choice, but I haven't moved to the green one....mostly because of the color. Yikes! I also added a bit of lead tape to mine. 318g, so almost in the middle.

I played with the hd and I really loved it! It took a while to get used to it but something about the racket seemed right I hit with it and it almost promoted better technique and made me flatten the ball. But the racket head speed felt a little slow and I wanted an open string pattern because my strokes got lots of spin. So I ended up getting a yonex vcore 97 310 and I’m adding weight to the frame and I actually really like it. Would definitely recommend the yonex vcore line and the hd version is a very different yet special racket it would be great if you want lots of control, precision, and have a flat stroke.

Concrerning the HD: very difficult to play for me in stock form. I suffered from the low Twistwight and it was underpowered. As for softness, i wasn't taken in, too, even with babolat vs 1.30 natural gut at 24kg. My prokennex q5 pro feels better here even with a rating of 67. I put a fairways leather grip and head overgrip on it and added 4x5cm silver lead on the 03:00/09:00. It is one of two best racqets i have (the other is s wilson rfa (the version that had a slightly lower swingweight of 324 stated by tw) without leather grip and 4x3cm lead 03:00)). It is super confortable excellent feel and feedback + the deflective power for defensive shots.

I heard from another reviewer there are some quirks to this version. The ball sinks deep into the frame for this model and the feel takes awhile to get used to. Did you feel the same when you first started playing with it?

    • @miguelc7194

@@rutan4000 indeed you need time to adjust to this frame. Initially I added 4g at 3/9 like I said on my first comment, but with time I started to struggle due to the added weight in the hoop (lost maneuvarability). So now I kept the Kimony leather, added 2 OG and it's much easier to swing (still at 350g). The control is there, power is decent but you are responsible to generate it, and on serves you can basically place the ball where you want due to its HL balance (and your arm appreciates it!).

I have recently decided to pick up a Yonex racquet due to their amazing feel and quality control! I was torn between the Yonex Ezone 98 Tour and the Vcore Pro 97 HD. I chose the Vcore 97 Pro HD.
It has an incredible comfort, feel and control. I could be very precise and hit the shots that I wanted to. Despite being an 18x20 I could generate amazing spin. However, this is definitely a racquet designed for someone who is fit, with good technique and needs control in their game. If you do not 100% commit to your shots or have bad foot work you will be punished with wild misses and balls dumping into the net. If you enjoy the feel this is a great racquet you can grow into.
    Definitely worth a demo.

Yes do that its a little different the thinner the string gets. With RPM blast thats a stiff polyester you might even go lower. But 48-52 pounds is good tension because when the string bed gets looser over the weeks. If I strung everyday I would go like the pros for 42 pounds or something.

Under the scorching sun, there is no nasty glare. HD reminds me of the legend RD TI-80. Stable on service returns. Sweet spot is generous, not much jarring on off center hits. Ground strokes feel buttery and powerful. I strung it with hybrid cross and NG mains. A rewarding player's racket without being overly demanding.

Today i got some tennis warehouse demos...vcore 97HD, rf97 v13, and a phantom 93 14x18. i thought i would love the rf, like the phantom because i use the 18x20, and hate the yonex. Boy was i wrong, the 97HD is a total winner. swings like the phantoms but a ton more forgiving. ridiculous sweet spot and a super large feeling head for a 97. anyone who likes heavy racquets should surely take it for a spin! also i hated the new rf for some reason, it had awkward shape and proportions for me and was just too powerful.

That is one sweet racket! Serious players stick; I would say it is smaller head version of the HD. It is very flexible 61 RA, very head light 9 points, and a massive sw of 330 the strung weight is around 12.2. The 18x20 is a lot more dense bc of the smaller head so it is harder to get spin; but if you generate the racket head speed you can get spin you just need to know what you are doing. Spin is a little easier to come by with the HD but you still need to have some serious skills to use this stick. The phantom plays more like a 95-97 sq in head because of the oval shape of the head though. But I wouldn't recommend that to anyone under a 4.5 level; you need to have some serious skills to use it. It is more maneuverable at net though bc it has a slightly thinner beam and it is more head light 9 points vs 7 for the HD; but it still has the weight to stick the volley. Both serve really well if you have good technique bc of the sheer weight of the racket coming through the ball. Both are awesome player rackets though; both buttery smooth, tons of plow through and tons of control and feel. It will come down to which one you play better with.

  • @quinby123

I'd like to test out the 310g version; in my opinion you don't need a 330g racket unless you play really big hitters(college level and up) and need a heavier racket for stability and control.

    • @radreviewz9482
      @radreviewz9482 4 роки тому

You definitely don't. I would also argue that it can be easy to start to rely on a heavy racquet to give you some default level of stability instead of creating it yourself, kinda like how you need to generate your own power and such.
But a heavy racquet can teach you a lot about where your strokes are wasting time or energy. I cleaned up some very specific things about my tennis because I had to. But I ultimately reached a point where my extra heavy almost 13oz RF97 was just holding my tennis back.

    • @devinotero1798

Always go for the 310 even if you like heavy racquets so you can customize to your spec. I personally play against pretty good players so i need the heft in high school, but id rather customize to my spec

    • @radreviewz9482
      @radreviewz9482 4 роки тому

@@devinotero1798 I can understand that. I think at higher level, anything much below 310 is going to be too light. My racquet is right at 12oz right now. I use a head gravity pro and tour, depending on my mood. I play with some absolute ball smashers and it actually got so crazy that I realized my 13oz racquet was too hard to wield against these players who blast balls back at me every time. So I decided something around the low 12's was better and for now, it is.
Point is, the heft is necessary and nice but then you reach a point where it actually starts to show that it might be a little too much but you realize you can gain a lot of your stability back by getting a racquet with maybe a lower flex or just by having a cleaner and better timed hit or contact on the sweet spot. In other words, a heavy racquet can be a crutch for small errors and just plow through them but when you have to be ready to fire back at these heavy hitters ball after ball, the weight just takes too much from you. Or it can, at least. That was the case for me and I'm a heavy hitter myself. Athletic but I'm no super athelete. If I were, maybe I'd want a heavier racquet again but 12oz is definitely on the heavy side as it is.

HD is a great racquet....been using it since it was first released last year. Doesn't overly feel sub 60 RA at all & it's not a very tight 18x20 pattern, like a prestige mid. So, really no issues with spin.
There seems to be some myth, as I just heard that 18x20 is for flat hitters. Not at all. No pros (male) hit flat, sure some have less spin than others, yet 18x20 still by a long way the most popular string pattern on tour.
And if you really are an old school flat hitter, perhaps an open pattern will assist with just a bit of topspin & maybe some kick on the serve.
Comparing it to the new prestige Pro Tour 2.0, it's significantly easier to swing, much greater access to spin, a bit more muted and perhaps not as stable. However, it still is very stable. The pro tour is just so solid.
I still have a duel G (330) that I think hurt my shoulder a few years ago. (First time I've ever had a shoulder issue). I thought that great, but a bit stiff.
I much prefer the HD to Technibre xtc ltd (315), that lives in my bag. Along with a few other similar 'player' frames.
Am due to demo the Wilson Ultra Pro (97) V3, which seems not to be in the States which is odd, next week. It's a touch lighter, but figure a few grms of lead tape will bring it up to spec.
Oh.....I've tested both the lighter and heavier of these green vcore's. I thought the HD was clearly the goldilocks!!

      @@joneyin Hi Jay,
Sure....I like the 310 as a racquet generally. However, compared to the HD it's has less power, but it has greater spin potential, not a great deal though.
It's definitely easier to swing, but is also noticeably less stable in stock form.
In stock, personally I feel it needs some extra weight, perhaps 4 - 5 g in total at 3 & 9. The great thing is there certainly is that room for customisation if you feel it's a bit unstable against hard hitters and underpowered.
I guess a lot depends on your game and the level of players you play against.
It definitely is a good racquet, just noticeably not as solid by comparison.
