Quality Control of Yonex is quite better. I get that! But does that finally help at all? At the end of the day both rackets fail, having too much swingweight versus expected. Swingweight is the most crucial spec but still never mentioned on a racket. I would even say a difference in weight you could handle but a similar SW is crucial for hitting balls with confidence. A different SW can completely destroy your tennis.
the expected swingweight given by both wilson and yonex are obviously for unstrung raquets, the strings actually add about as much as measured in the video so everything is in line.
Another fun review! Having gone through and personally played with these exact racquets (along with the Babolat Pure Strike VS Tour), I can add a little more to this review. Starting with the Yonex, there's not doubt it's a good racquet. Ground strokes are solid and come off with lots of pop as long as you have a solid stroke into the ball. Cons of the racquet- because the RA is a bit low, it gets pushed around on service returns a lot. Like... A LOT. It's also not very forgiving on off-center hits. Volleys don't feel that solid either for some reason. It's like you have to catch the ball on one specific square of string to get the feel of a solid volley. However it is surprisingly maneuverable for a racquet of this heft. Also, for some odd reason, stringing it with a full-bed of natural gut feels horrible. Very odd! Next to review is the Babolat Pure Strike VS Tour. You don't see a lot of these around. I initially liked it because it had the traditional box beam construction for a more traditional feel. Pros of this racquet- box beam design gave it a little more feel. Cons- compared to the other two, it was very blah. Didn't do any one thing very well, and was also quite unstable on off-center hits. I had to put a lot of lead tape on at 3 and 9, which made the racquet play much better, but the finish of the paint prevented the lead tape from sticking well, which was very annoying. Had to readjust the tape every few shots cuz it kept undoing itself. Finally the RF97A. Probably my favorite of the lot. Little more power and heft than the Yonex, which meant it would not get pushed around on service returns. Overall pretty forgiving for a player's stick (again- for a PLAYER'S STICK!!)- the playable string bed area is pretty big. Also offers great plow-through due to the heavier weight. Cons- bit hefty, so reflex volleys at the net are hazardous. Wilson quality control is horrible, so getting two to match in spec is horrible. I finally decided to settle on this over the Yonex because it suit my game style better and liked that it didn't get knocked around as much as the Yonex. Maybe I should have experimented with some lead tape with the Yonex, but weight-wise we're already up there, so i didn't want to go much heavier. Hope this helps somebody! :)
Thanks you know are correct. I play with the Yonex 330 Matte Green. Today for fun I tried the Wilson RF 97 and I hit with Topspin and noticed the difference with The Wilson as you mentioned. I like both but the Yonex is made a little better.Wilson Tennis frames do not last long sometimes after a period of time it gets a ping vibration.
Regarding the unexpected SW discrepancy, Babolat RPM Blast is a pretty heavy string. Each additional gram of string adds roughly 2 points to the SW so that alone could easily account for 6-8 points, maybe more. Both frames are also slightly over spec so that may be a couple of points more as well.
you refer during your comment, these rackets are for the "higher level player" . How high the player should be in order to lay with? 4.0? 4.5? are capable to swing it?
An interesting comparison. I noticed a Volkl racquet hanging on the rack in the store. Are you able to do a Volkl C10 Pro comparision with the two racquets in this comparison.
Good video, two really old school playes, I like both raquets but you have to be a strong guy if you wana move it during more than h, cos is to heavy, I actually play with a 2001 prostaff model with 364gr and is difficult to move quiklyfor a while...for me the 310gr option sould be more feasible. Coud be the Stan's raquet in line to the old model RD Tour, or the previous RD8 those I use before? Thanks for share it!
Although both are 97 head 16 x 19, one main difference between the 2 frames is: RF97 - 6 mains in the throat VCore Pro 97 - 8 mains in the throat Throw in the lower RA and slightly thinner beam of the VCore Pro, it should play with better precision than the RF97...if you have the talent.
Both have similar spec, but they play very different since I have both racquets. I only use it to practice, not for matches. I do like heavy racquets.. both plays great differently, is really a personal preference which one you like. Base in ur style.

It wouldn't make the values closer but further. As you aleready mentioned, it would increase the static weight about 6 grams. It would "decrease" the balancepoint about 3 mm. Swingweight would stay roughly the same, if not a few points more (There's no way to decrease swingweight by adding weight)
Great Yonnex 97 and RF 97 comparison review. The Wilson 97 acceptable specs suit my style of game with the head light, more controlled head hits for fast vollies, kick serve and top spin groundies. This helps prevent me from getting itchy for another stick and reinforces that I have a grip on the right fun loving equipment. I wanted a bit more access to spin and achieved it by changing to a shaped poly string. ie Luxilon VIBE/Alu power rough hybrid, Yonnex Poly Tour (PTG)full bed, Luxilon Element rough/Babolot Super Fine synthetic hybrid, Genesis Trionic/Wilson syn gut hybrid. Instead of another racquet, I just change the strings to enhance Pro Staff features.
What’s hard about deciding between two racquets??? Just demo and play with them. That’s the best way to compare racquets. Plus, you can string them with your favorite string and tension for a valid comparison. Don’t decide on buying a $200.00 racquet based on someone’s opinion. You can go to TW website and do a side by side spec comparison.
i found the RF97 not hard to play with coming from some pretty heavy prince racquets. i was stunned how tough playing with the stan racquet was though!
Great review!, may be the gauge and type of strings made a diference on the swing weight, try a thin multi like Wilson Sensation (I know you hate it, but just for science!) 17g on a 18x20 100inch racquet (like head gravity tour or Prince Tour 100P 2015), swing weight it, and then try a thick poly like wilson revolve 15g on the same racquet and swing weight it. You will be surprised how the swing weight is affected.
Is it my imagination or is the string pattern on the Yonnex 97 more open with a larger grid pattern overall and through the sweet spot of the pattern? Thus, with Wilson, one would get access to spin but have more control over pin point shots and launch angel on both sides of the wing.🤔🧐

That RF97 being within 3 grams of what it was supposed to be is remarkable as that less than 1% off. I read somewhere a few years ago that a plus/minus window of 5% is considered to be ATP standard. On the RF97 with an unstrung weight of 340 grams that is a 17 gram window, so could be up to 7-8 grams heavier or lighter than spec.
6:40 Balance point difference of 3mm is just less than 1 HL point (3.175mm per point if you want to be absolute). That’s an acceptable and imperceptible difference.
Nice review! Actually I believe Stan still plays with old 95D and endorses this one, Polish Pro Hubert Hurkacz plays with this racquet. One can also check the way he plays to see if this one suits their game. I also see other flatter players using Vcore Pro 97 and is that because its slightly head heavier and more weight at the tip? Why is that the case? Many flat players also put lots of weight on 3&9 rather than at 12 for increasing stability but less put on 12.
in terms of face area, does the vcore has a wider face towards the 3 and 9 oclock? because i feel like that would help for your topspin strokes, slices and spin serves
Both of these are fantastic racquets. Both rock solid and can crush balls if you hit it right. In the end, I chose the Fed's. The sound it makes when you connect is magical.
I played with both racquets, i can say the Wilson RF97A is definitely more power and stable. Yonex has a thinner beam which makes the off-center hits more unforgiven. Both racquets have good power if you hit the sweetspot.
The difference in sw is caused by the fact that yonex and Wilson list the sw without strings. You measured IT with strings. Isn't that the explanation?
The problem for going with Wilson is having to buy a second racquet. You are going to have to fiddle with at least one of them to match the other. Sometimes you can get lucky to request a retailer to spec match two racquets for you.
If Yonex is 330g, and RF97A is 340g unstrung, how is your first column diverging, it should be +17g for strings for both. (Edit: I see that TW has it like that.) The second and particularly third columns are depending on the strings, if the strings are lighter or heavier. For those interested I have both, and both are great. RF97A is better however, although Yonex 330g is easier to wield, but not by much. Both need softer or hybrid strings and proper full swings and technique. Another great video!!
Like he said here, Wilson quality control is not good, hence the RF97A is not 340g unstrung (even though official documentation says that). I also agreed with you that the RF97A is better to play with.. since I also have both.
A friendly suggestion. You can actually fast forward the parts in every video when you perform the actual weighing and measuring swing weights. It’s not very interesting to watch each time and like a good two minutes you can cut off
On his videos, it just shows how genuine and down to earth he is. Besides, his channel is not his priority, his store is. Therefore don't you thinks it's just a tad bit selfish of you to be asking him to change his video style to one in which he'll have to spend more time editing it simply because you find it "boring"? I'm not complaining by any means because I actually like mine better. I believe the black one I play tested was a version 11.x. It felt alot heavier in the handle. The rod laver one I have feels more balanced. Same touch and feel though
The biggest downside would be for me to be able to match it up to a second one if I were to get another one. There was only one left when I made the purchase
what i don't like about the RF97 is the new paint job. although it is feels good when touching the rubbery surface, it comes off way way too easily. so if the racket just clash with someone else's racket, the paint will be scraped off
Yeah it's terribly weak. It comes off just from owning it and playing. A few shank balls will quickly start to wear that rubbery matte finish off. Sucks, honestly. Thing is, matte finishes are always weaker and you can't polish them because any polishing will turn things back to gloss. Plenty of racquets have a much more reliable finish than these Wilson's though. I don't know what's up with Wilson. Pretty disappointing honestly.
It may not be the most durable, but it sure looks good. To me, matte paint looks much better than glossy. Some how glossy looks shiny and cheap, like something sold at Target or Walmart.

Try a dampener ☺, it does wonders for me. They go from about the size of a quarter to the long worm style 😎. Give the experience a whirl.

What version is that RF? I have the version 12 Blue Laver Cup edition and it seems like it plays differently than the black one
The reason that is because wilson quality control is very bad. Most wilson racket specs are different even if they are the same type
@@justinchung5934 yes, Wilson is terrible. I have 2 RF97A, all black and the tuxedo. Suppose to be exact spec, BUT it is NOT at all, the weight of the two is so different it swings like two totally different racquet. I am so pissed at Wilson.
I'm not complaining by any means because I actually like mine better. I believe the black one I play tested was a version 11.x. It felt alot heavier in the handle. The rod laver one I have feels more balanced. Same touch and feel though
The biggest downside would be for me to be able to match it up to a second one if I were to get another one. There was only one left when I made the purchase

what i don't like about the RF97 is the new paint job. although it is feels good when touching the rubbery surface, it comes off way way too easily. so if the racket just clash with someone else's racket, the paint will be scraped off

Yeah it's terribly weak. It comes off just from owning it and playing. A few shank balls will quickly start to wear that rubbery matte finish off. Sucks, honestly.
Thing is, matte finishes are always weaker and you can't polish them because any polishing will turn things back to gloss.
Plenty of racquets have a much more reliable finish than these Wilson's though. I don't know what's up with Wilson. Pretty disappointing honestly.

It may not be the most durable, but it sure looks good. To me, matte paint looks much better than glossy. Some how glossy looks shiny and cheap, like something sold at Target or Walmart.
@@furnaletto hope they fixed it. It was well known issue. Most complain about it but that was a couple years ago now.
The vcore pro is really trash , extremely muted horrible. The Pro staff is much better pop/ball pocketing feel everything
