“They ain’t the best witches but they’re entertaining.” Best summary of Hocus Pocus I’ve ever heard.
The effects in this are low key very impressive for 1993, especially the talking cat.
Especially for a film that I'm pretty sure was made for T.V.
It was initially intended for tv but was released in theatres in the summer of '93.
@vherak05 That's probably why it didn't do well in the box offices initially, most people don't care about Halloween during Summer, I'm 1 of the few who would see this anytime but I wasn't born til October of '93 so it was not possible unfortunately lol
J’s face when he saw witch Mary flying on a vacuum 😂😂😂
I always find it hilarious that the little sister runs around telling people her brother is a virgin knowing nothing about what that actually is.
How do you know she doesn't know what a virgin is? She's young, it doesn't mean she's unaware. I knew what a virgin was by that age, and it's NOT explicitly stated in the movie that she DIDN'T know the meaning of the word. In fact, I'd venture to say, she very much DID know what a virgin was, which is why she begged her brother to NOT light the candle KNOWING it HAD to be a virgin to light it for them to come back according to the lore she heard that day in school. She was frustrated after because, as she said, "A VIRGIN lit the candle." Now, how she knew for SURE her brother was a virgin, idk. When I was a teen hooking up I wasn't doing it at home so my siblings wouldn't know lmao.
@@killinglonliness88 she knew he was a virgin because it worked. It only works if a vigin lights the candle her brother lights it, it works so he's a virgin
I lost my virginity in 1998 when I was 8yrs old 😂❤🎉
@@AcornSmokes420lol you a victim
That lady will forever be the big chick in the choir in Sister Act
That's Peggy Hill!
Winnie was Bette Midler, a Grammy award winning singer. You’ll love her. She was in a movie from 1979 called The Rose where she really shows her chops.
The Rose is an amazing movie.
@jeffking887
I'd love to see JL react to it. He'd be chair dancing.
When she gave him back his phone number, it was written in a different handwriting and in a different location on the page... Meaning, that she rewrote it and kept the original. ;-)
Fun fact - Hocus Pocus started life as a script by Mick Garris, that was bought by Walt Disney Pictures in 1984. The film's working title was Disney's Halloween House; it was much darker and scarier, and its protagonists were all 12-year-olds. Garris and Kirschner pitched it to Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment; Spielberg saw Disney as a competitor to Amblin in the family film market at the time and refused to co-produce a film with his "rival.
This movie actually bombed and cost Disney 16.5 million, but it took off after it being aired during October on ABC’s Families 31 days of Halloween, and Disney. It also saw a increase in media sales every Halloween.
Love your reactions to this, this is one of my favorites Sarah Jessica Parker who plays Sarah Sanderson even though she was I dope in this film she was hot lol. Glad you enjoyed this film, hope you get to react to the sequel.
At 34:18 when Billy cuts his stitches and dust and moths come out his mouth those were actual moths. Years after the movie came out the actor who played Billy spoke about it.
I watched this movie ALOT throughout the 90s as a kid and never got the "It might take me a couple tries" joke until I rewatched it a couple years ago. 😂
A few of the cast is here in Salem this weekend having a watchparty/meet and greet. Also this gets played outside at the Commons and is a fun time.
My first time in Salem it drove me crazy how familiar the historical headstones looked even though I'd never been--eventually I realized "oh, my God. I recognize them from Hocus Pocus." 😂
"The cast"
my bad, will edit.@@donnieboughton1730
This makes me so sad I wish I had my shuttle bus already I would be there to enjoy it ihope they do it every Halloween 😅😅😅😅
I know, the year my Daughter moves out of state, she couldn't drive up to Salem for it. She's so bummed
Don't worry, I made it just in time 😂 Can't wait for this reaction! Death becomes her is a good Halloweeny movie to react to also, Bruce Willis, Merly Streep and Goldie Hawn! ❤
Yesss!
Yesss!!! Death Becomes Her is perfection!
AGREE!!!
Oh man, he'd enjoy that one!
Another great witch movie is THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK (1987) starring Jack Nicholson, Cher, and Michelle Pfiefer
And Susan Sarandon...lol
This movie has definitely aged like wine!! Such a great Halloween re-watch :D
I loved the witch said "do you want to hit me, will that cheer you up". Thank you for the great reaction J, and I hope you are having a wonderful day. Tell your co pilots that I said hi.
This movie is the legit reason why I love Bette Midler so much.
Also, I love Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson. He also played Abe Sapien in Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
And the actor who played Thackery Binx in this movie currently plays Special Agent Timothy McGee on the original NCIS series.
Sean Murray, I imagine?
The voice for Binx in his cat form is the voice actor for Max Goof since the '95 Goofy Movie (specifically Jason Marsden).
@@PsychTsunamiMkII The physical actor, yes. Thank you for the slight correction.
"Its hallowed ground. Witches cant step foot here."
J : "....Is that true?"
🤣
Sarah Jessica Parker flying on that broom, singing Come Little Children, is absolutely key to the plot.
Sarah's power, is her ability to hypnotize children with her singing and lure them in. Mary's ability is to sniff them out.
Classic 💜🖤🎃🕷🦇 Winnie is the most
Powerful. Sara has the gift of her voice of hypnosis and Mary has a gift of smell. 😂
Your face when she brought out the vacuum cleaner was priceless, hahaha.
Honestly this is one of my favorite Halloween movies, and has a line that many overlook but completely undermines the whole "All witches are evil" argument. When Allison uses the salt around the drum set Winnie looks at her and says: "Salt! What a clever little White Witch." Favorite line as it shows that there can be a Good Witch who could possibly counter them as a trio
fun movie. shame there wasn’t a legit full version of “I put a spell on you” released. it’s the best version of that song.
I put a spell on you, has been released by a few different artist the original artist, I’m sorry, I forgot his name, Jay something I think, is in the Hall of Fame for this song. Annie Lennox also did a version.
Screaming Jay Hawkins. Love his version. Haven't heard Annie Lenox version.
Don't forget Marilyn Manson
That song has been out for a long time. Frank Sinatra and others have sung it.
“A torture chamber!”
*Hahaha*
Used to watch this on VHS with my brothers every time I visited my grandma’s. Oh the good ole days!
The part that gets me with how humorously accurate it is is when the kids lure the witches to the high school and Winnie says "It is a prison for children" 😂🤣
6:53 You need to watch Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) and The Watcher in the Woods (1980).
Bless you for knowing these classics! ❤
Love this channel and all the fun we have as eom family we need more happiness in the world
Sarah Jessica Parker when she jumps & says 'amuck amuck amuck'. I cry laughing everytime
The girl playing Dani the sister, is Thora Birch. She was one of my childhood crushes. She is such a great actress! And shes gorgeous.
J - "You can't burn witches"
Salem - "Hold my beer....."
He was defending his sister he was way outnumbered so he defused the situation and gave him his bag of candy. If he hit one of them and the rest jumped in they could have hurt his sister while he was being beat up. He made the smart decision and said here u want some candy here u go here’s my candy. If he was just by himself then he could have hit one of them.
If he was going to hit anyone he would have done it earlier and not had to go home barefoot
Loved this movie since I was 12,on the Disney channel, the guy who played Max had the series Eerie Indiana the same time this movie came out.
My insane little kitty is named Binx, straight from the movie :)
One of my kid's faves and definitely, mine! I was just telling someone on a comment on here, my hubby came in the room the other night and it was on and he asked me how many times I've seen it. I said, "This week? Four."
Wonderful reaction - as always! This is one of the one the family always stops to watch if we catch it on.
Hubby came in the room the other night as I was watching it and asked me how many times I've seen it. I asked, "This week? Four." Lol
Disney was really hitting it out of the park back in the 1990s with the family films. You should put Heavyweights, Jungle 2 Jungle, Blank Check, Camp Nowhere, and The Mighty Ducks on your watchlist.
That’s my childhood line up, every single one of those movies are BANGERS
Bruh jungle 2 jungle….massive banger!
Omg, yes to all the above. I lost count of how many times I watched Camp Nowhere. I was obsessed with being sent away to a summer camp like that, my family could never afford it though. I went to the local community center day camp instead. 😢
Shout out to every black cat that was called Binx after this movie ❤ I loved my Binx so much, she would climb trees with me and loved to cuddle.
The Heavier Lady looks a lot like my Son's Mother, I LOVE THIS MOVIE! I've been watching it since it was New.
The young teenage girl that you said that looks familiar. I think she was also in ladybugs.
A true Halloween classic ❤
I remember being 16 in the fall of '93, staying home from school with a sinus infection and the trailer for this movie played at least once every commercial break. After the 20th, "Amuck, amuck, amuck," I wanted to take a sledgehammer to the tv lol
So that song the sisters sang in this, it's "I Put A Spell On You" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. J needs to look this guy up. He was a horror singer back in the 50's. Dude was amazing and is one of my favorite 50's performers.
Happy happy J !... I'll love watching this with you 👍😉...
🌿🌿🌿
Classic movie. Hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Sarah's talent is her luring the children .. especially her siren voice
I love the theory that Alison was the 4th witch
I remember watching this when I was pregnant with my daughter. It's since become our favorite Halloween movie we watch together every year. Great memories ❤
loved this movie growing up, the sequel they just released was just as fun to me
One of the classics right here man, enjoy!
This will be my first live stream hopefully . I’ll be taking my break at work to watch :)
“He ain’t talkin’ to the blonde one” 😂
Just enough camp, the overly dramatic performance always gets me 😂. Despite this, the Sandersons have distinct personalities and abilities and are still dangerous. Good family friendly fun for Halloween 🎃
Hey jay, if you like a comedy horror like this with a musical scene?then I will recommend the midnight hour from the year 1985. If you heard of Wolfman Jack, he handles the music in this movie.
Hocus Pocus: Bringing new definition to the phrase "Getting smoked".
I watched this probably 200 times or more as a kid. It's just a fun movie. And Billy is one of the best Disney characters ever
What a delight! Thanks for rescuing me from a bad day.
I remember seeing this in the movie theater and have loved it ever since
Hurray! I finally got to watch an October with you! I don't watch any movies that are evil/scary. The scary movies I watched as a child & teen in the 70's & '80's STILL reoccur in my dreams so I avoid evil. I loved watching a fun one with you! Thank you!
This is a good movie. Watch it every Halloween.
Am I the only one that sees Jloween and kinda expects Jennifer Lopez movies?
Dont get me wrong, nothing would be quite as terrifying as watching a marathon of her movies, but still. Its just what the name makes me think.
The biggest problem with the story is the fact that the cat had 300years to dispose of that candle, another question in my head is this, sense the candle needs to be lit by a virgin, what would happen if a virgin lit the house on fire instead.
Cat can't reach the candle
The vacuum lol 😂
sarah's talent is the siren's song. can put a spell on children wih her songs.
The blond witch is Sarah Jessica Parker. She was later in Sex And The City.
I was waiting for someone to say it....
I saw this is theaters when I was younger. Still remains my favorite Halloween movie. Pretty damn dark for a Disney movie. The sequel is good but it’s not as good as the first. They’re making another one as well!
The little girl is Thora Birch, who played the brunette girl in American Beauty in 2000.
This movie is so funny “bless you” “AHHHHHHH”
They hot boxed Emily 😂 I cannot unsee that now. Girl got smoked!
Also, Dani was my muse as a kid. ❤
One of mine & my 27 year old Daughter's favorites. We go to Salem yearly, and she loves to see the house the kids lived in...among so many awesome things. If you're ever in Boston, check Salem out.
I would like to recommend the witches.
Rock and stone, brother!
I am so happy you watched this!!!! I feel like Disney was awesome then. I’m like you, I’m just a kid…well, I cuss like a sailor but I like the cutesy lighthearted stuff. Thank you for this one, gonna rewatch you watch it again lol
The actress who played Mary Sanderson also voiced Peggy Hill in King of the Hill
Whaaat???
Allisson (vinessa shaw) played Lynn, the baby's mother in the hills have eyes (2006)
To be fair shit was popping off at Hogwarts too.
A lot of students died. Most on school grounds. Including Dumbledore. So I mean I’m good on that. That’s board of education is trash!
Also Bette Midler(Winifred) is an ICON. She was almost 80 years old when she did the sequel and it felt like the next day. And her voice is just such a powerhouse. 10/10 she can put a spell on me anytime.
omg spoilers
@@_BangDroid_ what you talking about Harry Potter or the fact there is a sequel? Cause uhm it’s not exactly a secret LMAO
And if it’s for Harry Potter. That shit is what over a decade old at this point?
This is a classic Halloween movie
We wacth it every year. Love the wicthes and the story
Such a great reaction! If you're interested I think you'd really love Homeward Bound, being a fellow animal lover you would absolutely adore this classic 😊❤ (unrelated to Halloween, lol)
It never occurred to me until all these years later... why would they have a vacuum? lol
My understanding is the love interest of max said her mom used to work at the Sanderson house as a museum. And of course lots of foot traffic would cause dirt and debris from visitors to the museum so it wouldn’t be a far fetched thing to have a vacuum tucked away in a closet for cleaning. 😃
@@CelestialDeathGaze Ahhh yes! I was forgetting it was a museum! Still kills me that she thought of using it ha
The little sister dani also was in the walking dead. She played Gamma the whisperer.
Okay, I didn't read all of the comments, but what I did read didn't mention this little tidbit. The "living" little girl, played in The Walking Dead. She was Gamma/Mary, that killed her sister to save Alpha.
Mary (Kathy Najimi) plays Peggy on King of the Hill.... ho yeah!
Please do Hocus Pocus 2. I think people bashed it way too hard because this is such a classic but I thought it was a great sequel, and very funny. Nothing will ever compare to the original...but when does it? If you liked this movie I think you'll enjoy the second one as well.
Hocus Pocus was definitely in my heavy rotation of favorite movies as a kid along with Edward Scissorshands, Addams Family, Beetlejuice and Little Monsters 🙂
Hell no.
The number one best Halloween movie ever made...except for maybe Halloween.
When those jerks were taking kids candy in front of that house, if it were my place that shit wouldn't happen.
Love this film!
Holloween cult classic right here
That Jessica was sometime else.
"Can you burn witches?"
Worked in Salem.
Salem hanged and pressed one , never burned witches that was out of the country
Timothy Mcgee needs to stop cosplaying as a cat and get back to solving cases with Gibbs at NCIS 😂
I really thought when I was a kid that this movie was new when I saw it. I am just realizing that it came out when I was born 🤦🏻♀️ It will forever be a classic.
The guy who plays Zachary also play McGee on NCIS
I'm taking my nephew trick or treating in Salem, Mass. next week. All the way from California.
This was an instant classic
drogo was determined to get the last word in lol.exellent reaction as always jay
those aren’t just the shape of winifred’s lips, it’s a lipstick style i believe, without checking, from the 18th century reminiscent of marie antoinette and the queen of hearts.
This movie is a MUST every year 😊
I’m glad you thought Sarah Jessica Parker was hot lol. Her character in this movie was one of my first tv crushes lol.
It's an unusually large kiln for school ceramics.
Fun Fact:
The Roxette song 'Almost Unreal' was written and intended for the soundtrack to this movie (it even references 'Hocus Pocus'in the lyrics) BUT at the eleventh hour the studio decided to instead put the song on the soundtrack of 'Super Mario Bros.' which was getting a much heavier promotional push.
24:55 you've been mentioning her talent the entire movie brah :D
I used to have dude’s brown puffy jacket…. 😊
Bette Midler's rendition of "I Put a Spell on You" has been in my Halloween music rotation along with Thriller for decades. My fave scene in the whole movie.
Who all on here votes yes on our man J!! does a reaction on Cujo on Halloween???😃😃👍👍
